How smooth is your man comparing you to Sade, he's quite an operator himself.
Lolol! Yes!
🤣
Slick, brother!
Exactly what I was thinking! But it’s nice to see that a husband still know how to smoothly operate and bring a smile to his wife 👍
Lol. I was thinking the same thing as well. 😆
beautiful woman with a beautiful voice...next: "Sweetest Taboo" and "No Ordinary Love"...
Yes yes yes!!
Yep...they tapped into a banger with Sade and those 2 are great suggestions.
Sweetest Taboo is one of her other greats.
i feel like Ordinary Love won an Oscar for that movie it was the song for.. Indecent Proposal?
@@christydavis6171 My favorite of hers, to be honest! Sweetest Taboo is a fantastic song!
She's an absolute icon. Stunning beauty, stunning voice, classy style.
No question your so right.
Helen Folasade Adu CBE (born 16 January 1959), known professionally as Sade Adu or simply Sade (shah-DAY),. Is a Nigerian-born British singer, songwriter, and actress.
One of the most successful British female artists in history, she is often recognised as an influence on contemporary music. Her influence on music was recognised in the UK with an award of the Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2002, and a was made Commander in the 2017 Birthday Honours.
Sade was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, and brought up partly in Essex, England, from the age of four. She studied at Saint Martin's School of Art in London and gained modest recognition as a fashion designer and part-time model. After gaining attention as a performer, she formed the band Sade, and secured a recording contract with Epic Records in 1983. A year later the band released the album Diamond Life, which became one of the best-selling albums of the era, and the best-selling debut by a British female vocalist.
Following the band's third and fourth albums, Stronger Than Pride (1988) and Love Deluxe (1992), they went on hiatus after the birth of Sade's child, while the singer experienced widespread media coverage for unsubstantiated claims of mental health and addiction issues.
After a spell of eight years without an album, the band reunited in 1999, and released Lovers Rock in 2000. The album departed from the jazz-inspired inflections of their previous work, featuring mellower sounds and pop compositions. The band then underwent another hiatus, not producing music for another ten years until the release of Soldier of Love. Following that album's release, the band entered a third period of extended hiatus, and have only released two songs ("Flower of the Universe" for the soundtrack of Disney's A Wrinkle in Time, and "The Big Unknown" as part of the soundtrack for Steve McQueen's film Widows) since.
Sade has 1 child & a step-child. She had relationships. In 2005, Sade moved to the Gloucestershire countryside, where she bought a run-down cottage to renovate. Sade rarely grants interviews.
Her name is pronounced “Sha-deh”. This one of the smoothest songs ever. Fantastic music and Sade’s voice smooth as velvet. “ sweetest taboo” is definitely a favorite
I agree 👍 💯 another one is Ordinary Love 💘, but I have to say that I love 💘 most of her songs 🎵 ❤
Yes! I wore her albums out playing them in repeat 🔁
@@lindapowers8592 It's easy to do. I mean there are just so many great songs 🎵 😌 I know I could listen 🎶 to Sade for hours, and never get tired of it.
"Shah-day" for American accents ... "Shar-day" for English accents.
Shah-day.
Shh-ahh-Day is how it is pronounced. This album can be listened to and enjoyed all the way through. I've played this a million times. Her voice carries me away.
I always thought it was SHAR-day. A Google search says it's SHAR-day.
@@Shrykespeare you are correct sir
This is how I grew up with it too. And I still will vibe and chill to the whole album. Specific songs: "No ordinary Love" is my fave, then, "Sweetest Taboo". Your love is King" is good too. They're all great.
I always said SHAR-day too since day one when she blew up the radio with this song.
UPDATE: according to Google she is a Nigerian-born British singer and SAA- day is also pronounced.
@@Shrykespeare It is Shar-day, but the R in that is pronounced differently on either side of the Atlantic.
Aas she's british the R is silent, so Shh-ahh-day is more accurate to how it sounds.
A class act . Her music sounds even better today ,close to 40yrs later. She is the inventor of timeless music.
Her voice is like a musical instrument
I take it you were a teen when that song was out? Sade always reminded me of Nina Simone back then...
Jay telling Amber she looks like Sade shows us all who the Smooth Operator really is. Really digging your reactions.
J got some points for sure!
I know, right? Good husband vibes!
Such a sweet and genuine moment ❣️
I love how they love each other
She does look like Sade!!!
Oh my, Jay getting some points with Amber.
He's a pretty.....smooth operator.
"No Ordinary Love" is probably my favorite, but her entire catalogue is astonishing.
Thank you! There's not a song this woman sings that is terrible...none! And when interviewed she said flat out "The reason I don't put out an album every year is because I've alway chosen quality above all else. I want to put out the best I can give." And there you go.
Same 😊
Sade was actually the name of the band. The singer's full name is Helen Folasade Adu. This band, this album and her voice were ever presents in the mid eighties. They were so good, it didn't matter what genre of music you preferred, you HAD to like Sade.
She was known as Sade, not the band:)
her middle name actually has Sadé in it as well
@@Petestanton The band is Sade. That's a fact. And her middle name is Folasade which is where the name Sade comes from. They agreed on the band's name being Sade.
Thank you. Always happy to learn something.
@@lisacox3750 Yeah, but it's also her name. She goes by Sade. It's both her and the band. It's not rocket science, people! 😉
Sade's 'Cherish the Day' is one of the greatest Soul tracks of all time.
100% FACT
Sade is a Rabbit Hole in herself as an Artist.. She has had so many top hits it's almost Uncountable!!
Oh yes!
Sade is a worldly jewel of music! Love her voice.
She has the most sultry voice of velvet out there I still melt when I hear this girl sing!
Cant believe song is 40 years old. Beautiful. 😊
Her song "By Your Side" is my wife's and I wedding song.
Her voice is so soothing. My son and I were both diagnosed with PTSD. And when it starts to bother me, Sade can always bring me down. Love love love her.
“Is It A Crime” is an absolutely gorgeous and perfect song. All of her music is a vibe.
Absolutely! The 1991 live version is to die for ua-cam.com/video/U-SHfpm5Bxk/v-deo.html
Amen....🙌🏽😎❣🥰🎶🥰🎶🥰
Yes; this may be my favorite of hers. 💗
Absolutely.
Like a Tattoo.
This woman has NO bad songs ya'll!!!!!
Sade has been the world's songstress for decades. The looks on your faces have been seen the world over. She is our angel. Wishing the world will give her lifetime achievement awards before she leaves this planet.
Sade Adu is a legendary artist of the highest magnitude. I saw her in concert in 2000 and I have never seen an audience so enraptured by a performer in my life. "Cherish The Day."
There's also "Never As Good As The First Time" "Nothing Can Come Between Us" "Your Love Is King" "When Am I Going To Make A Living" "King Of Sorrow" to name but a few other songs by Sade.
She has a voice like velvet, warm and smooth.
I love British music and love the fact that you're reacting to so many different artists from here. Sade is beautiful, her face, her voice and her music.
You must listen to Sade's song, No Ordinary Love. Absolutely gorgeous song and video.
“shah-DAY” is definitely a female crooner. She performed this song at Disneyland for thousands of high seniors during my Senior Trip in 1984. We were so excited to have such a big name hot new artist perform in person for all of us! Gorgeous and talented.
I guess you and Lut Desimpelaere will have to hash out your pronunciation disagreement
Omg, Sade performed at your senior trip?? SO envious!!!
@@bowtangey6830 Shah-day is correct
@@unwrittenwizard910 I went to ua-cam.com/video/YZSVjrdJ1A4/v-deo.html to get it straight from the horse's mouth.
Wow 1984 raw Sade. That's amazing
Her voice is like warm velvet. This song is a classic. I’d recommend you do “No Ordinary Love” by her next. Great reaction guys 🙋🏻♀️👍🏼🙌🏼👏🏼💜🇨🇦
Fortunately Sade is English 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
My wife and I went on a bus trip to Brighton in 1984 as 18 & 19 year old newly-weds. We had fish & chips at the Brighton Pavilion, then went to buy an LP each. She bought Michael Jackson and I bought Sade. Remember it all like it was yesterday. We have now been together nearly 40-years and still get great enjoyment listening to this. Love your reviews and reactions - keep up the good work guys x
Such a smooth, velvety sultry tone, not to mention you're right Amber, Sade was drop dead gorgeous.
Sade (Shah-day) has one of those smokey, cool voices that evokes such smooth feelings.
"Your Love Is King", "No Ordinary Love", "Sweetest Taboo" & my own personal favourite "Maureen" are worthy of your attention,
Her music is timeless.
I have retired to Thailand and my favorite coffee shop plays her greatest hits almost every day. I spend 1-2 hours there everyday.
No Ordinary Love is probably my favorite of hers.
somebody already broke my heart is another good one.
@@drdr76 well looks like I need to move to Thailand thanks! 🤣🤣
@@DHFHades I love her live version to this song!!!!
Amber, you are so pretty sis!
Sade is a LEGEND guys. She is still around too. She is the type of artist that puts out a project every 10 years and it is always amazing and well received. People love her and rightfully so. She puts out great music and has one of the best voices in the biz.
She is definitely a fav for me. You guys can choose any song of hers, you can't go wrong.
She started off as a fashion model. I saw her live at Jones Beach NY. She sounds the same live as she does on her albums. I love everything she sings.
I saw her at Jones Beach too (in the 90’s) she’s amazing live!!
The combination of her sensual and sexy voice and her band combine make her songs perfection. That smooth jazz/ latin/ rock/ samba beat is so smooth and and make you want to just get up and dance around the room. Her band is AWESOME.
IT'S ABOUT FRIGGIN TIME!!!! :)
Stunningly gorgeous, Sade is by far the smoothest and most sensual singer out there for the last few decades, with a sensational band setting the mood - there are probably more babies conceived with her in the background than any other singer, ever.
This is another deep rabbit hole for you to disappear into!
Barry White and Marvin Gaye told me, to tell ya, to hold their beers☺️🤣
Omg watching your faces when she started singing. Sade’s whole catalog is amazing. Just download her greatest hits album. Watch all her videos. She’s a Queen
Y'all were swaying at the beginning of the song and then Sade started singing and you both stopped! Loved your reaction! Love Sade!!!
*_((Officially my favorite part of the reaction now))_*
Thank you for pointing this out💯#Moment
I lived in Southern California in 1984 and I remember driving on Pacific Coast Highway at 5 a.m. and listening to "Smooth Operator" and knew what heaven on Earth was like.
I'm so glad you discovered Sade. Her voice is so complimentary to the saxophone. Great lyrics for her wealth of music.
Her first 4 albums are unbelievably good.
1984 was probably one of the best years in music ever. Smooth Operator is such a beautiful, emotional song. That tear at the end 😢.
Even the last line "Is it a crime".….
I love how effortlessly & elegantly Sade sings (which mirrors her stunning style). Never trying too hard. Minimum vibrato. She has a beautiful "woodwind" quality in her tone. REGAL.
(They are nothing alike, but Karen Carpenter's voice is also effortlessly elegant.)
Sade's hit "By Your Side" is 🔥🔥🔥!!!
We used to call her music, “Makin Baby’s Music”. All her songs have a vibe!
And "Paradise" is a great song by her too.
preach!!!
Yeah, I think there were a lot of babies conceived to Diamond Life back in the 80's. Every bloke I knew back then had a Sade CD just in case he got lucky. :D
4Show
panty-dropping music
Love when Amber came out with the new mom's constant phrase. "I need more sleep". Also J getting off the chart points for the comparison. Talk about a smooth operator.
I saw her and her band in an outdoor concert in the 80's. It was enhanced by a lightning and storm off in the distance. Far enough away to not be a threat. But close enough to be like a natural light show along side her music, and simply beautiful voice.
She was fantastic live.
Oh how i love young folks discovering real music for the first time and how it effects them on such a deep level! Reminds me of when i heard these songs back in the day
No ordinary love is another good song from her
You have to hear her sing “Is it a crime”. Her voice is 👌🏾 Also, I I could be wrong, but I think it’s pronounced Sha-day.
agreed
Oh yes! She killed that song live on her “Live from San Diego” video.
You are right in your pronunciation and I used to listen to "Is It A Crime" looking out my window as the rain fell down in the 80s when I was just 20 and that song hit me so hard!! So, I'm with you on that one for sure!
Over the 30+ years her music has been out, I have heard it pronounced both ways numerous times.
@@lindapetro5594 That's a good one but I think the "Lovers Live Tour" vid is just a little bit better, but then any version is great .
Seriously, how can anyone not freaking love this song!
1st She's drop dead Gorgeous..what a voice!! And she had so many hits from the 80's to the 2000's ..she was on every hardcore rapper listening playlist in the 90's ( Love Her ) ..
Diamond Life, her debut album, has many other great songs: Your Love is King, Hang On to Your Love, When am I Going to Make a Living. I’ve loved Diamond Life since it was released. It really holds up today. One of the all time best albums of the 80’s.
"Cherry Pie" Luv, luv, LUV IT!!
Anita Baker’s Sweet Love is a beautiful jazzy song from the same time period
My favorite female R&B singer
Yessssssssss!!
I second third and fourth that 🤩🤩
Anita would be a huge rabbit hole for them. Anita doesn’t know how to make any bad songs and the vocals are buttery and super soulful! They’re gonna love it!
Anita Baker is another beautiful songstress who as mentioned never made a bad song.
Whenever I hear Sade’s voice one word comes to mind every time since I first heard her when she originally hit the charts and that is “silky”. Sweetest taboo should be your next Sade song.
Sade Adu is her real name , from Nigeria and lives in London .
Listen to cherish the day . Also check out her live performances . Class act .
I was privileged enough to see her perform. You could hear a pin drop in the auditorium. Sade is legendary.
Amber, there’s no need to compare yourself to any other woman! You are truly a natural beauty! Your natural complexion is lovely and you have a beautiful smile! I’m sure Rob realizes how lucky he is! Love watching you guys! Tina
She is absolutely beautiful, isn’t she?!?
As a man Rob so wanted to say Sade is beautiful but he's also a gentleman (knows what side his bread is buttered) and realised that she reminds him of his beautiful wife would give him a get out of jail card 😆. Most married men, myself included have been there (just about to say something that would earn you dog house for a week but managed to check himself just in time).
I fell in love with her in 1985 as a teenager, from this song. I am still in love with her at 52. What a class act. She has no peers....
My favorite song of hers is Sweetest Taboo
I was in a band that did that song (and this one) and the drummer really loved the groove on Sweetest Taboo
Finally!!! Finally!!! Finally!!! Recommend Sade multiple times. ILOVE THIS WOMAN’S VOICE. Sade is my go to when I am in bad mood. There is no way you can remain angry while hearing this angel sing.
BTW Jay’s face when he first sees Sade, Priceless. Lol.
Excellent choice, my friends!! As everybody has pointed out, it’s pronounced “Sha-day”. She’s one of the best who’s ever done it!! Watch one of her concerts on UA-cam (it doesn’t matter which one, they’re all great) and you’ll see what I’m talking about!! “Is it a Crime”, “Sweetest Taboo”, “Cherish the Day”, the list goes on and on...
And don’t forget her crew: Stewart Matthewman, Paul S. Denmam and Andrew Hale!! Listen to their album “Sweetback” featuring Maxwell and others. Fantastic!!
Sade's choice to use vibrato very, very minimally is a big reason her songs sound so smooth. She just slides right into the next line without losing that smoothness.
First thing I feel in love with was this woman's voice and then I saw her in this video and I thought she is so beautiful and jazz and R&B she sings is perfect she can make you fall for her with her voice but this woman is a model if she wanted to be.
I can't recommend "no ordinary love" enough by her ,one of my all time favourite songs ..her voice is as smooth as silk :)
Sade (pronounced Sha-day) is as smooth as it gets! Her voice and band are outstanding! Lots of quality to choose from with her. Is it a Crime is my all-time favorite. Check that one out. Follow that with Sweetest Taboo.
Is it a Crime is great..love to watch her sing that one live.
You're pronunciation (Shar day) is 100% correct.
I was 25 when this song came out and feel in love with her. At 64, I still love her. Time for you guys to love her too.
that sound of sade group is so sophisticated street level jazz professional very gifted musicians smooth r&b contemporary reminds me of being on a tropical island
As wonderful as Sade’s voice is, gotta give some love to the whole Sade band: Stuart Matthewman on sax, Andrew Hale on keys and the incomparable Paul Denman on bass. Fantastic musicians.
yes!!!
Agreed. That band and her voice...emmm.
They’re known collectively as Sweetback. As in, they’re a sweet backup band. They released a couple of their own albums, too.
Yes. I too was going to mention Denman's great playing.
You bet...saw them in concert... outstanding!
As previously noted by others, her name is pronounced - "Shah-day". One of the most beautiful and unique voices ever!! her catalog of music is phenomenal!! If you both ever get time, I suggest you watch her 1994 concert film or any of her concert videos available on UA-cam. You will be mesmerized...by the way, this is the short version of this song...
Glad someone corrected the pronunciation. Also this man was also a mob " operator".
That is the ultimate compliment..? Sade is the be all end all no person will be better.... there is only one sade
Whenever a singer prolongs a note for a long time, the listener is conscious that the singer is sustaining his/her breath. What's extra-special about Sade is how beautifully she keeps her pitch throughout that sustained note. That produces that smooth, velvety effect.
No vibrato.
@@mikelucey5035 I hadn't thought about that, but that's true. Very little vibrato in her voice.
@@jdc7923 It is much harder for a singer to hold a pitch-perfect note - too many disguise their lack of being able to do that by using a lot of vibrato.
@@richardpare3538 Good point.
@@jdc7923 If you really look at her voice from a technical standpoint, she is not pitch perfect by any measure, but close. What distinguishes her from everyone else (beside the incredible band that sets the mood) is her delivery - smooth, sexy emotionally, and sultry. NO ONE out there at the moment delivers like she does.
When this album Diamond Life came out, it didn't leave our turntable for months. Every track is spectacular! Her band and the production are just unrivaled. We got married two years later in '86 and the song Your Love Is King was our wedding dance. A truly special album.
LOVE that song! And so many more
Sade was huge in the UK for several years. Sublime voice... 🖤
Her voice is like soft butter….smooth, silky, just spreads it’s velvety texture all over everything it touches and makes everything better 🤤🤤🤤
Sade appeared live at Fort Monroe Hampton Virginia in June of 1983. The whole thing was impromptu, but I happened to be there! I was fishing and heard all the bustle. I walked over and loved the show! She only sang 4 songs, but all of them are my favorite songs! The Annual Jazz Festival was a day later.... I think she was rehearsing.
Most of the world as I’ve heard pronounces her name as “Shaw-Day”. Well however it should be said, she had a huge hit with this song. Back in the 80’s she was all over the air waves. I’m glad you got a chance to hear her.
She's one classy lady and singer.
Her voice is like a good massage...I like your reaction, guys...
Ms Beautiful soulful Sade one of the best concerts ever she can sing😅❤
I'm thinking Taylor Dayne 'Tell It To My Heart' is gonna be needed for FF. Oh....and Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam 'Lost In Emotion' or 'Head to Toe'. Such great females!
“I’ll be your shelter” would be too good.
And Gloria Estefan, Miami Sound Machine - Conga
Actually All Cry Out is Lisa Lisa's best
Any song from Taylor Dayne is perfect!
Any Taylor Dayne song would indeed be good, but I'll Be Your Shelter would be GREAT!
Haha, love how both of you were vibin to the intro and when you heard her majestic voice, you both paused and had the same look on your faces. Sade has the most hypnotic voice ever and looks to match. No Ordinary Love is the truth!
SHE IS A MESMERIZING SINGER AND PERFORMERE
How about floating on a cloud eating a milky way hearing this masterpiece song....
Possibly one of the 'smoothest' songs ever recorded. Love it. When I think of smooth jazz this is the first song that comes to my mind.
Not for female Friday but Van Morrison, Moondance is a must if you don't both love it I will never recommend another song!
Seconded.
I agree...a must.
Have loved the song since ’70, when I was 12. The older I get, the more I appreciate it.
Yes..Hell, Yes!
Great song! Shame he's a conspiracy crank now.
Only discovered this song because you guys. Born in 84. Love all types of music and definitely 80’s, but never heard this. New favorite! Smoooooooth operaaaaaattttoooorrrr! ❤️
Sade is eye-popping, jaw-dropping, drool-inducing drop dead gorgeous when I first saw her in this video.
1:46-normally, the song starts off with her talking about something and I seriously liked the sound of her voice. Too bad it’s not done in this video, but was done on the radio version.
Just some suggestions of another fantastic songs of her:
Nothing can come between us
Your love is king
Hang on to your love
It is a crie
Never as good as the first time
Paradise
Sweetest taboo
No ordinary love
Kiss of life…
Or any other. Going wrong wit Sade is a concept that simply doesn’t exist 😁
you love is king is auch a vibe. Love that song.
YES TO THEM ALL!
I could watch her performance of Your Love Is King at Live Aid over and over - so smooth (and great sax!)
Sade, she sang beautifully and is so beautiful.♥️✌️😎
Happy wife, happy life.
I see the resemblance too.
You too are a joy to watch.
She is the best! There’s no other like Sade!
🥰
Sade, pronounced SHAH-DAY, was a major hit when this, her first song came out in 1984. Smooth, velvet voice. So different from anything else at the time. Others tracks to check out: Is It A Crime and, my favorite, No Ordinary Love. This former model is still around performing and concerts with about 40 years in the business. And she looks the same. This came out around the same time that MJ's Thriller was released. So our music back then ran the gamut.
Correct Sir! Folashade is a name loaded with deeply rich meaning in Yoruba language.
Shaday, Shaday shaday! !!!
Thank you
There’s actually a very subtle R in there. Shar-day (ish). The way it was described to me is to pretend you’re a Bostonian so that it’s pronounced somewhere between shar-day and shah-day.
thank goodness!!
From UK, but of African, Nigerian heritage, from memory. Gorgeous voice and, yes, gorgeous lady.
You should look at her live videos..great voice one of a kind voice and today she is in her 60's and still brings it
More Sade please! She is one of the greatest singers ever IMO.
" No Ordinary Love "
" Your Love Is King "
" The Sweetest Taboo "
" Hang On To Your Love "
" Soldier Of Love ". All 👍 👌
I hope the reason King of Sorrow isn't on your list is 'cause you haven't found it yet! Give it a whirl, top five of hers for me and I just found it about a year ago.....
Great reaction! You will love "Sweetest Taboo" or a hundred other songs of hers. Her live performances are epic, where she shows off her vocal talents and crowd pleasing skills. Not easy to see her live, she doesn't tour much and when she does the tickets sell out in the blink of an eye. My personal favorite album of hers is Lover's Rock.
The greatest female vocalist there is. Smooth as glass and soft as silk, just an amazing voice. She could be a Model but voice is even more beautiful than she is.
All of her songs on an album/videos are meant to be listened to/seen in order - they tell a whole story.
I haven't heard this song in a while and I'd forgotten just how beautiful it is. Loved it.
Sade, pronounced Sha-day, moved to London from Nigeria to study fashion design. In her follow-up videos there is a theme of a relationship that is wrong for her, despite the fact that she loves him. Sade doesn't so much sing as she breathes her words across the notes. The jazz band has backed her from the beginning, tours with her whenever she comes out of hibernation. This is important because the band frames her voice with just enough structure for Sade to apply her the true power of her voice. When this happens, it connects with the listener from the inside. The underlying tension surfaces to acknowledge its existence when released during the solos.
Some prime examples of her work are;
IS IT A CRIME ?
PARADISE
NEVER AS GOOD AS THE FIRST TIME
HOLD ON TO YOUR LOVE
YOUR LOVE IS KING
and from her Lovers Rock Live concert
NO ORDINARY LOVE.
This song epitomizes every great thing in her arsenal. It is also, I believe her best song. She only tours about once every decade. So if you want to see her make time.
An amazing singer and maybe the most beautiful woman in the world, I love that she performed at Live Aid
One of the most amazing female voices ever. Her voice is pure silk.
