One of the biggest lightbulb moments for me in losing weight was finding out that we lose 1% of muscle mass per year from the age of 40. That may sound very little but by the time you reach the average age of menopause you will have lost over 10% of your muscle mass. That’s a huge loss! Your muscles act as a glucose sink, so when you are younger there is somewhere for the sugar to be absorbed. Hence you see older people getting diabetes because they are unable to control their blood sugar. The biggest change I have made is to try to increase muscle mass - e.g. take up weight training. Ladies, we need to be lifting weights and eating more protein at mealtimes (at least 30g) to form muscle. Lastly, I was feeling so tired at menopause. I hadn’t even thought about mitochondria - the powerhouses that produce the energy currency of ATP for our bodies - but the more muscle you have, the more mitochondria you have. No wonder I was tired before I gained more muscle. I really hope this helps someone in despair because I was until I discovered this. Doctors will tell you to exercise, but they don’t explain how to do it right as a woman. It’s not just cardio. You need to walk for an hour daily, weight train at least 3-4 times a week, do at least one session of HIIT training and at least 2 sessions of yoga collectively to lose fat. Start with the weight training and walking and the rest will follow. I wish you all health and happiness.
I should add that I thought HIIT training would be bad for me. I have read scientific studies that show otherwise. After HIIT training interleukin-6 levels are raised in pre and post menopausal women. These are inflammatory markers and drop faster in pre menopausal women than in post menopausal women following exercise. However, your body is better at regulating stress hormones following HIIT exercise. These two things combined (stress levels and cytokine interleukin-6 levels), suggest that post menopausal women should increase rest days between HIIT exercises, hence yoga is good to include in your exercise regime. In addition, meditation in the morning will counteract the high cortisol levels that spike at this time and reduce blood pressure. HTH.

Most doctors are hesitant to acknowledge or advise women on perimenopause/menopause concerns. They brush it off. I can attest to this. The trivializing of this topic is perplexing.
The blaming of women for unpreparedness through this change of life absolves the medical establishment of its abject failure to take seriously women's health and particularly after the reproductive years. Ask any physician how much training he or she received in women's health beyond general OBGYN, or for that matter on nutrition, and you'll better understand why some of the most common surgeries are the oppherectomy and hysterectomy. On the other hand, its funny (but not really )how men's ED was treated as an immediate global health emergency resulting in Viagra being rushed to market while women continue to beg for answers and support through serious life changes that threaten long term health and in an some cases, over years of dismissed menopausal symptoms and needless suffering, our very sanity. This is not to mention our susceptibility to heart disease, sarcopenia, and cognitive diseases such as Alzheimers as we age due to lack of medical interventions and information well before menopause. Perimenopause is treated like a wait and see rather than a window of opportunity to discuss HRT, lifestyle changes and other interventions to in fact adequately prepare women for what inevitably is to come. Its just absurd. My remedy is to take what is worth keeping here and continue seeking credible answers to advocate for one's self. Now as a post menopausal womanI am so clear on this point. The quality of our lives beyond child bearing years depends on us demanding options to meet a complex set of woman specific needs throughout our lives. And doctors should be careful not to come off as blaming or shaming women in a system that has not for centuries, prioritized or valued women's health and well being. Thank God for the age of information where we can gain knowledge to advocate for ourselves.

I spoke to my UK doctor about prescribing testosterone yesterday and she said that they won’t prescribe it because there is a risk of cancer associated with it. (I did mention lack of libido.) Now the cancer could be associated with the level of testosterone given, but in the UK doctors are straight-jacketed to work within NICE guidelines. I would love it if we could be treated in entirety at the cellular level as an individual to see what we are lacking, but bespoke medicine is unfortunately a thing of the future and probably will not happen in my lifetime as it’s too costly.
Dr Louise Newson in Statford-upon-Avon will prescribe testosterone and BHRT. I left her phone number from her web page and my comment got deleted. You can also talk to a Compounding Pharmacist in your area and ask then for a list of practioners who do this type of hormone work.
If you talk to a Compounding Pharmacist, they often have saliva test kits and you could do a female hormone panel. ZRT labs is a popular brand. It's one vial for post menopausal women and 10 vials throughout the month for cycling women. You can get all the hormones OTC except estrogen and testosterone. So if those are low you do need a medical doctor to prescribe them. Ask your Compounding Pharmacist for a list of practioners who do compounded bioidentical hormones.

Magnesium. Look at cortisol. I didn’t realise I was so stressed. Stress burns magnesium. I was losing my hair also but I think from insomnia. I’ve started to take magnesium morning and night. I’m also mindful to practice being relaxed. Started to meditate and also know it is ok to sit still and do nothing. Also I did accupture. I got constipation I think from sluggish bowel so also started to drink dandelion tea with ginger, tumeric & dill. :). Also I stopped sugar. Eating more broccoli, Brussel sprouts, beans and eating my vegetables first. :). Also I started eating eggs. I hate eggs. I joined gym also and go twice a week to lift weights. I have lost 3 kilos now and all my weight is around my stomach. So I hope to continue with this. :)
Hi Dr Mike 😊 I just love your channel and I’ve learnt so much about fitness and nutrition. I’m trying loss fat and gain muscle and it’s not easy. I’m learning how to eat and exercise to lose fat and maintain muscle. I have belly fat which is very hard to lose. I do a combination of yoga, weight training steady state cardio. But not sure if I’m doing it correctly. Please make videos for exercise tips for post menopausal women to get into shape. I love what you are doing. You are a gem 😊
Thank you for sharing these fantastic insights. You certainly go the extra mile. Best account I have ever heard of menopause and what to do about it. Brilliant balance between academic research, scientific expertise and hands on practical recommendations. I wish I had such expertise at my local gp
Doc, with all due respect, but the Mediterranean diet does not include things like quinoa and chia seeds. And no, we do not have soya and soya derived foods like tofu as part of it. However, we do cook black eyed peas and moussaka (zucchini, aubergine, potatoes and minced meat topped with beshemel sauce) regularly. I am saying this as a person who lives on a Mediterranean Island.
Thank you, thank you! I just shared this to all of my friends from 35-55 years old. Very little awareness about perimenopause! Please do the same on types of exercise, quantity, etc!
You said take calcium. That's the first red flag for me. Magnesium naturally creates calcium and aids in higher body use of calcium unlike taking it as a supplement
I’ve never needed to diet and always had a size 8/10 slim figure, now in the menopause I’ve a fat gut, hips etc, please help nothing is working, I’ve cut sugar, bread, pasta, I’m eating rice, fish veg, salad and fruit, still not loosing😢

I'm 45 with regular periods and estrogen, have gained 7 kilos and 6 inches in my stomach in less than a year. I walk and exercise and have high calcium and vitamin d. My thyroid is sluggish but I do all the things here including taking supplements which I hate, I eat a proper diet - eggs from my chickens, fish fresh from the ocean, walking outside for my but d, fruits snd veggies that are local and organic and I still look like sh*it from perimenopause. I also sleep like a bear and drink filtered water from my well. I have follower your vids, consulted nutritionists and all I have gotten is the same advice that hasn't worked. Argh, I'm completely stuck with my weight loss. I'm almost 4 yrs post gastric sleeve, down 120lbs , but haven't made goal weight yet. Im 5 ft , 52 and hopefully almost done with my cycle, 6 months no cycle. I weight train 3 days a week, cardio 2 days a week and 2 active rest days. I've managed to increase my muscle tone , but can no longer get the scale to move, over a year of weight maintenance. I track all my foods, macros, water intake, vitamins etc. My doctor says I have excellent bone density and great cholesterol levels. I'm so confused as to why I'm no longer dropping weight while being in a calorie deficit. Does the number on the scale actually matter so much for a 5 ft woman going through menopause if all your other numbers are good ?
fortified orange juice is not a good idea, despite being fortified with calcium. I agree with almost everything else, but OJ has to go (I am a registered dietitian, licensed nutritionist)
Look at lots of other videos. There is so much available for free on UA-cam. Spend time to educate yourself look up magnesium, weight training, walking, cortisol, sleep, estrogren dominance. Avocados, kiwi, etc. estrogren dominance videos helped me a lot. My no sleep is killing me but I didn’t realise how much stress I am under cause of cortisol

Thank you 😊 Please make a video for women that if they do heavy weight lifting they will become like men with muscles..I have 23 % fat mass and afraid to go to gym .. so many fitness instructors without knowledge especially in gyms
They do not become like men unless they are irregularly more like a man to begin with on a biological level. It is very difficult even if the woman is “heavy weight lifting” to build the same muscle at the same rate. This can be increased with external supplements but not naturally.
Bollocks. It is way harder to gain musclemass in menopauze due to hormonaal change so this is an ungrounded fear. Just go to a womansgym if that will make you feel more ar ease. Just go.Maintain your muscle It will benefit you so much short and longterm.
Organic hempseedoil oil together with flaxeeds in your yogurt gives the perfect daily ratio of omega 3,6,9. And vitamine D supplement should be taken with some oil. Also enough magnesium intake is important because of the increase of being overheated and sweaty. Stay away from coffee and sugary treats for they will increase your hot flashes and nightsweating. Also intermitting fasting can be helpfull for resetting your body from using your fatstorage to get your blood sugarlevel up instead of the sugar out of your food.
This is not true. I gained an even more feminine curvy physique by lifting heavy weights. Building muscle also boosts your metabolism and many other benefits
Butt, tights and heaps fat.. I never have belly fat.. Belly fat is the easies for me to burn but, my lower body is the problem no matter what I eat or do.

I'm 51 and I feel like giving up, I'm 60 pounds overweight and I feel like crap! This new phase of life is awful! I can't seem to shed the weight! I'm eating as healthier as ever; doing intermittent fasting, ditching ultra-processed foods and taking essential vitamins and I'm still not losing any weight! I think it has to do with not sleeping well, because of hot flashes! Not to mention exercising 3xweek at the gym, I have a very active lifestyle because I work as an RN in a busy hospital! I manage my stress with meditation, I take magnesium and ashwagandha supplements as well! I wonder if I need HRT! I was told it may cause cancer! Don't want that either!
15" into your video, almost at the end, and you STILL have not defined the #1 reason I KNOW all about menopause and what it creates, what I want to know is what YOU feel is the main reason At this juncture, I am done watching it IF you think calcium, D, omega will take care of it, then you need to reconsider your 'education' Also the foods you cite without supplementation will do it, then once again YOU need to reconsider your training
I’m not even going to attempt to spend 20 min to watch a video, when the cover photo of the woman is so manipulated with clothing, to exaggerate her belly with the low wide waist band, and shallower bust in her sports top. And hair pulled back sloppy…then the after photo, high waist band, longer top, hair down, styled and luxurious looking… If you want people to trust you, if you REALLY have something to offer, you don’t have to use tricks…facts should be good enough, and obviously they aren’t…

I am so sorry~ I am learning about this just in time (46) but I am constantly sending love to the older sisters who were given bad info😢💕
These are all symptoms of low estrogen and thyroid. Estrogen is the master hormone for women and it affects thyroid function
@@reneewhittinghill3440 I was on thyroid meds but not HRT yet, I'm on estradiol patches and nighty progesterone now and I'm finally doing better
Melissa Neil on UA-cam focuses on meopausal and post menopausal women and has loads of great advice.
DR M. Place fresh mushrooms in sunshine for a bit before eating. And I was told MK7 needed to be added as well.
Thank you for doing a video on this, much appreciated 🙌🏿❤️
That candle is too close to the edge 😅
😂😂😂 I was thinking the same thing.
And now I can’t stop looking at it 😂
Thank you, thank you!
Common knowledge to not supplement calcium!
And yet the man goes into great length to help adjust your diet, rather than supplement punting?
He didn't say take calcium. He said in order to increase calcium eat....
@@Usernameblahblahnblahexactly
Your body needs calcium to use D3, that's why it's mentioned in the study. Just as magnesium is better with fatty acids, etc.
I have gained weight,depressed,craving,always tired etc,hating myself.
Thank you Doctor Diamonds. Very clear.
I’ve never needed to diet and always had a size 8/10 slim figure, now in the menopause I’ve a fat gut, hips etc, please help nothing is working, I’ve cut sugar, bread, pasta, I’m eating rice, fish veg, salad and fruit, still not loosing😢
That’s definitely me. Big gut just want go away!
More of these videos please!
I'm so happy I found this video I'm 45 and on Mirena and I feel like I'm in a cyclone...everything is out of whack but at the same time being on the IUD its giving me what I could be losing if I wasn't...I need to lose weight
I am taking birth control estrogen
I feel great
I started working out and lost all belly fat
This was incredibly helpful!
I have been at it for 7 months and haven't budged an inch. I even did all kinds of wild fasting and a liver detox. Nothing. What would you suggest for a woman like me?
I’m in the same boat as you! AND I focus on protein and eat organic pasture/grass fed meat. Nothing has worked.
Beef liver helps with menopause
I’d really like to recommend Dr Mindy Pelz’s channel if you haven’t stumbled upon her yet!
Do you lift really heavy weights? What exercise do you do? ❤
@@the5rosses I have my own chickens and eat hand killed meat, cook with animal fats and have my own eggs and fish our if the ocean. The food situation is locked
Thank you for uploading and sharing.
Interested in the program but too expensive
Look at lots of other videos. There is so much available for free on UA-cam. Spend time to educate yourself look up magnesium, weight training, walking, cortisol, sleep, estrogren dominance. Avocados, kiwi, etc. estrogren dominance videos helped me a lot. My no sleep is killing me but I didn’t realise how much stress I am under cause of cortisol
Are there any that you recommend? Need to figure out what is lacking and why I am so inflamed
It also happens later. Im 53 ....no symptoms and still get periods.
You are lucky, have you had babies before
Please make a video on how to lose fat for women with pcos under 35 🥺
Please look into serapeptase tablets
Doctor Berg on UA-cam also has great info on menopause and fat loss. I've been following him for two months and have lost 15 pounds, including a lot of belly fat.
Care to share what you did?
I'm on my 2nd bottle of Bronsons vit K2+D3 10000iu. Waiting for my spirulina tablets. I'm hormonal breast ca sirvivor, 45yo. This July will be my 24th anti-hormonal monthly injections (zoladex). I often skip taking lebrest 😜 which should be taken daily. It's been ±6weeks I'm doing IF, trying whole food, minimize upf, strength training + cardio. I don't check my weight, but already lost 2cm on my thigh circumference. I'm still regulating my sleep (I experience C-PTSD)

Do the carnivore diet…it works
@@MLM111you are absolutely right! If carnivore is too extreme, the keto diet works as well.
Hi Mr Diamond. Please help me. I'm a 55 years. My menstruation has stopped. Had two c sections. I've tried low fat milk, brown bread. One tablespoon rice twice a day with curry. Excercise. But don't seem to get my belly flat. Plus start wth hot water before having tea in the morning. Is it possible to start on a fat free milk, etc. please let me know what other fat free foods can I add to my diet. Thanks for sharing. 🎉❤
I read estrogen doesnt decrease but progesterone increases making it look like estrogen decreases. Any truth to this?
Dr Marie Haver- #1 menopause doctor
Milk? Orange juis? Cheerios? Nope! Skyr and fiber - YES!
Im 45 already in post menopause. I take multivitamin and a vitamin d pill every morning. Unfortunately im allergic to wheat, dairy. What are good substitute for the dairy issues. What can i eat do to those allergies. To lose my menopausal belly flabs.
Did you try goats milk
Thanks Doc! Been waiting for this video
Wrong title
Thank you 👍
How can i take fish oil when i have gallstones.i am weak/ no energy at all.
There is a protocol to flush the gallbladder. It includes Apple cider. I think it is the morovitz protocol. I would look into it
Thank you
I did not have some special problems or symptoms inmenopause period, on the contrary, I was much more stabel psychologically. Lack of period was without some special signs.
So, a whole story about menopause is highly exaggerated . For me, it was easy . Just easy.
Go carnivore❤❤❤❤
YESSS ❤awesome facts thank u!
@@irgan2611why are you like this?
This is not true. I gained an even more feminine curvy physique by lifting heavy weights. Building muscle also boosts your metabolism and many other benefits
Thank you xx
Look for advice about menopause from the right profession with experience of their own !
Butt, tights and heaps fat.. I never have belly fat.. Belly fat is the easies for me to burn but, my lower body is the problem no matter what I eat or do.
Same here, it is estrogen dominance. Cut the sugar as much as possible.
I think this guy needs to learn more about industry bias, , funding manipulation of studies, the business model of the pharmaceutical industry, and really examine his lack of critical thought. If he did all that, he’d be giving very different advice, that wasn’t so mainstream, and therefore wrong.
Also make how to lose face fat. I have double chain and round shap cheeks please make this type of video form India
I still don't know what to do. I eat all these foods.
Reduce calories
ahhhhh i found the video THANK YOU !!!!
I WISH I could have cereal! I loooove cereal. Just can't have milk or cereal. It's inflamatory.
WHEN YOU HAVE (GER) GASTORESOPHAGEAL REFLEX , NO MILK DAIRY SPICES MINT CHOCOLATE COFFEE ONION TOMATOES ANY FOODS CONTAIN ACID , SALT. VERY PAINFUL. STOMACH BUBBLE 🫧

WEIGHTLOSS IS VERY HARD!
THANK YOU DR.
As if girl on front grew 4 inches of hair
I like your video. Pls consider vegan. You might agree their theory one day
800iu for vit D is a joke!!! Maybe if you are above 80
15" into your video, almost at the end, and you STILL have not defined the #1 reason
I KNOW all about menopause and what it creates, what I want to know is
what YOU feel is the main reason
At this juncture, I am done watching it
IF you think calcium, D, omega will take care of it, then you need to
reconsider your 'education'
Also the foods you cite without supplementation will do it, then once again
YOU need to reconsider your training
I’m not even going to attempt to spend 20 min to watch a video, when the cover photo of the woman is so manipulated with clothing, to exaggerate her belly with the low wide waist band, and shallower bust in her sports top. And hair pulled back sloppy…then the after photo, high waist band, longer top, hair down, styled and luxurious looking…
If you want people to trust you, if you REALLY have something to offer, you don’t have to use tricks…facts should be good enough, and obviously they aren’t…
I've been binging on your videos!! So GOOD! And so many wonderful food tips and tips for women. Thank you 🩵💕💚
You are so welcome!
I’m a pre-diabetes reversal lifestyle coach and really enjoy your videos. Thanks for all you do Dr. Mike.
Why have you excluded POST-menopausal women?????
Heat flushes like heat flushes
Mike why stop doing female videos pl.
Second, yeah!
Dude, its many WOMEN, not many WOMAN. Plural.
As told my men, about women. Snake oil.
What?! So you only take women or female physicians seriously?
Total bullshit.🙄
Please dont talk so fast
You can slow it down in youtube settings.
He needs a decent speed talking, like a lecture or conversation to keep listeners interested. He is honestly not talking to fast. Hope this helps.
He’s not talking fast, you are just listening slow
First to comment yey
I will never understand why men give women in menopause advice about their bodies. It’s just antithetical.
Your statement is ridiculous. As long as someone does the research and it’s accurate who cares who they are. You are what’s wrong with society.
I never comment on You Tube videos but i am extremely appreciative that you would cover such under-shared/under-explored topic that every woman will eventually experience. I am 48 so certainly noticing the shift in some minor ways over the last couple years. Thank you for the concise and well articulated sharing of invaluable information. You were raised and surrounded by the right kind of women, clearly. 😊😊😊
