@@MalleusGaming57 I always thought your video format would be perfect for doing a locker room style strategy breakdown with x's and o's. really show the game plan for each formation. I think it could help a newer player parse the gameplay portion a little better. Over all really good videos keep up the great content.
Use this strategy lots, one thing to mention (although this is more difficult for the dwarfs) is to have your ranged units fall back before the lines collapse, reforming your ranged units so that the wounded and tired enemy still have to chase after them while being fired on is very strong,
Lmao poor Dwarfs with their stubby legs. Definitely a good idea, pulling back the unit being targeted in the breakthrough but targeting the enemy as they chase would be devastating, should be able to let plug the gap as well. Cheers bro thank you!
I would say that this formation is the best for Total War. Shooting is the best way to kill anything, but they need someone to protect them from getting run over. One weakness of this formation is getting flanked, since you are layering your troops, and the enemy can try to go around. Another weakness is having too many enemy troops overwhelm your front line. The key to remember is that your front line is a barrier. Get the most defensive infantry, and don't worry about their offense. Your ranged will be the force multiplier, able to shoot into the enemies backs and sides. I recommend at least 2 ranged unites per infantry, to bring that much more offensive force to bear. In this case, more offense equals better defense. This gives you a basic unit of 3 units, 1 infantry/2 ranged. So you can scale that up or down as you wish. I like having some arty for sieges and to get the enemy to come to you. And I like some cav in order to protect the flanks and ride down fleeing enemies. As dwarves, you don't have to worry about bringing cav. :D
You can also bolster a Front line greatly with summons, probably most effective with Vampire Coast and of course the dreaded Skaven Weaponsteam DOOOM-stack.
I didn't realize it at the time but yeah the blobbing and magic opportunities are really good with this! I can't be the only one who evil laughs when I get a good AoE on a blob of troops haha cheers bro thanks for watching!
Lmao I do love me some Salsa Verde! I love Grenadiers but never really use them you're definitely right though this would be amazing to use them with. Cheers brother!
@@MalleusGaming57 You should try them. Even a single unit of grenadiers can make a massive difference in the battle, hunting down slow, heavily armored enemy units and turning them into paste before the armies can connect, or later going behind enemy infantry once they clash and deleting entire elite units. It's glorious. They're fragile as heck though. Super vulnerable to enemy skirmishers like hounds, or to enemy ranged units.
Singular: Blunderbuss (feeling like getting run over by a bus) Plural: Blunderbi (like in Blunderbye-bye) - I will see myself out. Great vid as always dude!
Nice video. It's a shame that war wagons are very flimsy, otherwise it'd be neat to see how they could do some Hussite shenanigans. I've looked into some of the Sengoku period tactics in Japan which seem interesting, but they're kinda complicated and a little large for WH. I'd definitely like to see how the Chevron formations hold up in WH3 though.
Yeah I really wanna make more use of War Wagons, they just need a little something extra in game though. Japanese tactics sounds interesting I'll have to look into them and see if there's something that could be adapted. Cheers bro!
This formation seems like it would be extremely oppressive for early game cathay. Primary echelon of peasant Spearman, secondary echelon of iron hail gunners and a tertiary echelon of peasant bowmen. Take a couple peasant cav to protect the archers and boom you've got probably the most effective utilization of those units possible.
Oh absolutely, I was thinking of Ironhail Gunners as well for this! I haven't done a playthrough as Cathay yet (though I've started a couple) but once the DLC comes out I'll probably make heavy use of this
Malleus I love your videos! I use the chevron all the time in my Chaos Dwarf campaign! I’d like to mention that it can be somewhat tough to tell apart the troops when they are so similarly colored, is there a way that you could have some more color differentiation between the troops? Love your vids dude keep ‘em coming!
Thank you so much bro I'm so glad you've been enjoying the channel! And yeah sorry about that I think I even commented on it in the vid I didn't realize how the colours of the two armies would blend together so much haha I'll keep that in mind for future vids. Appreciate the support bro thanks!
This strat feels like it's perfect for Druchii early game. Dreadspears/Bleaksword frontline with Darkshards supporting. Darkshards aren't quite as powerful as Blunderbusses in close range. But they are killy short range missile units. Best of all this works very well with standard Druchii armies and is cheap. I'm definitely interested in trying this moving forward! EDIT: I'm curious how this would scale with units like Sisters of Slaughter as well as they can be surprisingly durable.
Oh yeah this would be great with the Druchii, their repeater crossbows would be absolutely killer with this! Using Sisters of Slaughter would be interesting, you're right they're surprisingly resilient with their really high Melee Defence. My only concern for them would be lack of armour and losing out on their charging, but in theory they'd probably work pretty well
@@MalleusGaming57They also have physical resistance and shields. Another bonus they have is if they begin to lose they get buffs. The only thing that is concerning is the lack of armor and enemy missiles. I definitely wish the Druchii had a better Frontline unit than the tier 1 units though.
Is there a reason you play your left flank forward? I ask because my intuition would be to advance the right flank so the enemy is less likely to get missile fire into your regiments' unshielded side while shooting through the gaps offers the enemy's more vulnerable flank.
Haha I wish it was due to some tactical insight but no there isn't a particular reason outside of the general Left to Right predilection. That is a very good thing to note though thank you my dude I'll try to keep that in mind because you are absolutely right! Cheers!
Love your Stategy vids but its always small fights or single stacks. Could you do a video about fighting an outnumbering 2 or 3 stack army, this is where I always get rolled over
Cheers bro I'll see about making more along those lines, I did do one with the Dwarfs if you haven't seen it you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/XgPd5ZrywcM/v-deo.html
Take it slow. That's the answer with most siege battles. Everyone wants to get in there and just mass rush. Take out the towers with cannons or whatever you have, take out the gate, take the walls, stack the walls with firearms, you'll have that section done. Then peel the onion back section by section, taking out the towers and supply areas and treating them as smaller separate battles. Or auto resolve. Idk.
Definitely bring back the drawn out simplified army composition, it was super helpful to understand how to place the units. Amazing channel!
Roger that my dude! I'll keep that in mind for future! Cheers bro I appreciate it

Skirmish cav is amazing at battles like that. Add 2 units of empire grenadiers or even pistoliers to that and enjoy the chunky greenskin salsa.
