Chelmarie Johnson Your dad? That's so cool. He was my favorite bass player ever. Funkiest and bluesyest bass player I ever heard. I liked Dave Mason, but after his live album with Geralds incredible bass lines and his awesome solo in Give me some lovin, I was hooked on Dave Mason. Your dad became to me, as a bass player myself, the prime example of what a great rock/funk bass player is supposed to sound like. Dave hit the lottery when he found your dad.
Saw Dave perform a couple of times. One night two friends and I scored tickets to a Delaney & Bonnie gig. Bonnie came up to the mike and said, "We've got a real treat for you tonight. We have Dave Mason on guitar." The three of us stood up to cheer. No one else in the place even knew who he was. Such was Calgary.
Loved Dave Mason live! He is so underrated after coming up with great songs like Feeling Alright and Only You Know and I Know. Dave Mason is the greatest song writer and rock star.
Johnne! I had the opportunity to get the 24 trk master reels from this show! They used 2 inch tape and two recorders to stagger in the event a tape would run out during a song and then they could edit if need be! I ended up with the 6 reels of KANSAS and 3 OF TRIUMPH, and only a reel with one song from Dave. I mixed the KANSAS and TRIUMPH and gave the KANSAS reels to Kerry Livgren. The tapes sat in a building for years until someone just wanted rid of them! All I could afford was what I got and had to meet the guy halfway from Canada to Pennsylvania. I sure wish I had grabbed the masters of your set. I wonder where they landed!
Damn, they don't play music like that today. Well done to all the musicians and the main man Dave Mason with his melodic song writing. Lead guitarist and bassist were tearing it up.
From what I remember it was prefect weather. Mid 70's and sunny. After they got the tower delay worked out it sounded pretty good back from the stage. My God, That was a lifetime ago. I was 17.
Can't believe how lucky I was to be their when I was 20 Y.O. Now, almost 46 years later I am lucky to relive that great weekend at Mosport Speedway. Ron Binks.
I’m learning this song recently. Female vocals, and I’m 64 years old. The guys in the band wanted me to learn the song from Joan Osborne’s interpretation, but I needed to hear the original to see how it’s really supposed to go…so glad I did. My hubby is doing the guitar solos, so I will pass this along to him as well. Thanks for having this recording available!
What a wonderful Band and what a great performer Dave Mason ! I should have been there but for a young boy, 25 at this time it wasn`t to fly to canada just for one concert.
I thought Delaney & Bonnie with Duane Allman would be the best version of this song.. until I came across this. What a phenomenal bunch of players all in the same groove absolutely going for it. I was also mistaken about who was the main driving force in Traffic which, in their earlier best years was very much a collaboration and without Dave Mason would’ve been far inferior. And his singing live here is even better than the original version. I am blown away by this clip.. fantastic stuff! And a quick thought to end with - I wonder if Mick Fleetwood was a fan of what Delaney and Bonnie were doing back in 69 / 70 because it sure seems similar to the Buckingham Nicks thing his band were having so much success with not so long after. Blah, blah, I rest my case.. 😂
I'll tell you, this is 5 minutes from my house and about 40 years. I wish i could have seen it like this, i believe i can see lake ontario in the backdrop
I went to that Canada Jam gig 'just' pretty much just to listen to this set. Left not much after Mason left the stage . . . No real reason too stay. His set? Blistering. And I remember not very enthusiastic applause in general and man people wondering who he was.
Terra148 Wondering who HE was? What’s wrong with your fellow Canadians? Dude still great but HUGE solo act in 70’s. Routinely still headlining arenas at that time. Great opening act too usually, Flo and Eddie!
You know what?!?! Blacks and Whites were doin just fine back in these days. We can go back to it we just gotta stop bringing up Black and White and relearn how to laugh AT and with one another again. They don’t make bands like this anymore and they sure as hell don’t know how to have fun at a Rock Concert anymore. Give me the good ole days anytime.. we were making real “progress” back then..
Dave Mason looks like he could have been in Fleetwood Mac. He looks like one of them. Also this song sounds like a rip off of randy Bachmann you ain't seen nothing yet
Look at my Dad on the bass. Gerald Johnson ROCKS! ❤
He's definitely groovin' on this one. Great bass line.
Chelmarie Johnson Your dad?

Dave Mason is one of the most underrated rock geniuses of all time
He played on Jimi's All ALong the Watchtower btw :)
Still one of the best live rock acts you will ever see!!!
evidenced by this - so many music adjustment-what perfectionism!
Dave is one of the coolest rockers. He was my first concert I went to in the 8th grade. I’m 64 now and Dave is still Rockin
That's my brother and band mate since I was 14 years old, Tony Dean Eisenbarger on guitar.
Saw Dave perform a couple of times. One night two friends and I scored tickets to a Delaney & Bonnie gig. Bonnie came up to the mike and said, "We've got a real treat for you tonight. Great song, killer performance. Terrific players

They sure were, they were firing
The bass player’s daughter posted somewhere on this video about him. That’s so cool.
I keep coming back for more of this musical gem 💎
One of my favorite songs! Love it as much now as when the sing was released in '71 I believe.
I've seen DM live several times but I've never seen him be so energetic, he must've been in a really good mood that day! !
He may have gotten a few chunks of our spiked watermelon before they came out to perform 🤷 😮😮😮😮🍉 🍉 🍉 🍉
From what I remember it was prefect weather. Mid 70's and sunny. After they got the tower delay worked out it sounded pretty good back from the stage. My God, That was a lifetime ago. I was 17.
Chelmarie saying your dad rocks is an understatement!
Can't believe how lucky I was to be their when I was 20 Y.O. Now, almost 46 years later I am lucky to relive that great weekend at Mosport Speedway. Ron Binks.
I sure do miss the 1970's!
Oh man, the stage is packed with Mesa Boogies Mark I!!!!!
This is the best collaboration of band mates I think i ever heard. And Gerald Johnson pushing Dave!!
Luv luv luv
Absolutely one of my favorites!

I was there! It was fantastic.
Lucky you. Looks like the band was having a great time, must’ve been infectious to the crowd. God what a carefree time in the 80’s compared to now.
When it comes down to just two, I ain't no crazier than you - thank-you Dave
The Dude can really sing and play
Great fun on that tour ! Great band . Great crew .
Omg, amazing ❤

Mr Dave Mason who palyed guitar on Jimi's All Along the Watchtower
(Rhythm)
plus guitar on McCartney's "Listen To What The Man Said" and a few of George Harrison's albums. Well versed musician.

He was not in this band...on this day.
Jimmy was awesome. He actually wrote "WE JUST DISAGREE".
I dedicate this song to Toby Hassberger
I had the chance to see him in college in a small to medium size arena but didn't go. Yep, young and dumb!
You know what?!?! Blacks and Whites were doin just fine back in these days. We can go back to it we just gotta stop bringing up Black and White and relearn how to laugh AT and with one another again. Beautiful. Check out our channel for an interview with Dave Mason aboard Rock Legends Cruise III.
The band is smoking.
At first glance I thought I was watching Little Feat, but Sam Clayton sang a little lower
Great version, but bass player kinda disco busy!
Oh well it was 1978 gold chains with dumb medallions !
The gold medallions were where they hid their stash of blow..lol

Bass player is really great but too too busy.
