  • An exceptionally sizzlin' Watchtower by the Dave Mason Band with very special guests Neal Schon, John McFee and Ross Valory!
    Dave Mason has been respectfully called a musical “gunslinger” for a reason; having worked with some of the biggest names in music, his trademark guitar licks and musical touches are all over some classic hits. He recorded an album with Mama Cass, played rhythm guitar on “All Along the Watchtower” with Jimi Hendrix, was a founding member of Traffic, recorded with Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones, was part of Fleetwood Mac for a spell, as well as a guitar designer and a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee…. Yep, that’s Dave Mason.

    Written when he was only 19, Dave Mason is likely best known for “Feelin’ Alright.” The Traffic song is one of the most beloved rock anthems and one of the most covered since its release in 1968. The song has become one of the most powerful and enduring tracks in all of rock and roll history, living on in dozens of films and TV commercials as well as with versions performed by artists as diverse as Joe Cocker, Three Dog Night, Grand Funk Railroad, ELO, Coldplay, The 5th Dimension, Maceo Parker, Widespread Panic and so many more.

    After leaving Traffic, the band he and Steve Winwood co-founded, Mason went on to record his own solo project, “Alone Together,” in 1970. The album featured the hits “Only You Know and I Know” and “Look at You, Look at Me.” Together with Jim Capaldi, Leon Russell, Rita Coolidge, Bonnie Bramlett and others, Mason created some of the most memorable music of a generation.
    Stay tuned for more from Dave Mason!

    Dave Mason is the most underrated guitar player in modern history - fact!

    • @timsanderson5572
      @timsanderson5572 Рік тому +2

      Not a fact. People overuse the word "underrated."
      "Underrated" implies that someone never got the recognition they deserve. Dave Mason has absolutely been validated by millions of fans, who recognize his talent.

    Wow! Dave and Neal; great post. This is what great musical interaction sounds like. Dave invited Jimi to a party and played Dylan's version to him, then played acoustic on Jimi's version. Dave is a musical treasure.

      Gabe... Do yourself a big favor & go back to his early 70's records & make sure you keep your seat belt on tight . Start with Alone Together (1970 ) , Headkeeper (1972 ) , It's Like You Never Left (1973 ) & Dave Mason (1974 ) ., these are all most likely here on YT in full.. By the time your done you'll know what we do.

Masons control of Vibrato and his feedback and Tremelo is amazing-Mason is the master of milking every last ounce of Tone from his Guitar and gear!🇺🇸

    Always loved Dave Mason. I used to (way back in the 70s) tell people I liked his version of this song better than Hendrix's. This is the first video I've seen of him performing it and, with Neal being my favorite guitarist of all time, was quite a treat. It's relatively unusual to see & hear it played in Em. I'm going to give that a try!

    Great video, the music was especially good but when are cameramen of music productions ever going to learn who's who and which player is playing at any given time. It's very frustrating to hear a sizzling solo only to view one of the other players putting down the rhythm part. Sometimes it's no real nuisance but other times, this time, it's more than that. . . .

      Dave Whalen,
      You do know that Dave Mason played the percussive 12 string acoustic guitar on the Hendrix recording of "Watchtower", right? That was quite an awesome music scene in London, where a musician like Hendrix could happen to bump into a musician like Mason in a London pub, and after a drink or two Jimi says to Mason "I've been planning to record a cool Bob Dylan song. What do you say we go to the studio right now and give it a shot?" And so they did. As if the spontaneous pairing and the timing were an act of God.
