    • @nimverxza2485
      @nimverxza2485 5 років тому +13

      I recently learned this but mitochondrion is singular and mitochondria is plural. So in the context of, "Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell" it would be grammatically correct to change "is" to "are." So in this sentence I believe it would be more correct to say, "Mitochondria, are the powerhouse of the cell."

    My brain has always been much more focused and productive at night for as long as I remember. I feel more energized too, so I usually study or work at night up into the early morning. I've never been an early bird and I don't have diabetes or anything.
    Daytime can be too much for me, I feel tired by bright sunlight, heat, noise and hectic movement of people in general. I don't feel mentally active much during the day. I've been living in different cities in different parts of the world, but my body still makes me a night owl everywhere I go.
    Ironically, I've become much healthier mentally and physically now that I am not bound by a daytime routine. I've also found that my body functions best with biphasic sleep of about 8 - 10 hours in total. It seemingly doesn't matter what time/how often I go to sleep in a day, my body just needs a total of 8 - 10 hours each day and it's automatically done, I can't sleep more than that. And when that amount of sleep is not fulfilled, my body will not function optimally until the lost hours of sleep are compensated.
    I think while most of us are early birds, some of us are just wired to be a night owl.

      My situation is much the same as yours, but I still benefit from a blacked out room and sunlight exposure.
      It's just natural that some people are night owls. In the cavemen days, having everybody be asleep at the same time would have been a huge survival risk. The tribes that did that died out, while the tribes with night guards who went to sleep much later, when most of the nighttime predators weren't on the prowl anymore, survived and passed on their genes. So now we have a mix of people with very different chronotypes. The problem is that the morning larks have this controlling tendency of making everybody adjust to their schedule and they create a lot of misery in the process.

      Can I ask how old you are? because i had the same from around age ~14 to age ~22, around that age i started having huge problems with feeling tired/depressed all the time and it took me some experiments and time to figure out that it was my sleeping pattern, i am now 26 years old and have a natural rhythm, wake up with the sun, go to bed when the sun goes down, my sleep quality and general quality of life is back to normal again, but i couldnt have that with my old teenage sleeping pattern

      @@GuRuGeorge03 I'm pushing 30. I absolutely agree that the quality of sleep is vital. My stance is that I don't need to force myself to wake up/go to bed early or have a monophasic sleep pattern to have quality sleep. I've tried changing my sleep pattern to be an early riser several times before and it made me groggy as I ended up feeling drowsy and needed to nap during the afternoon despite having been sleeping the whole night. Worse is whenever I have to set my alarm clock to wake me up in the early morning, my body always ends up waking me up about 10 - 15 mins before the alarm goes off. It's almost like my body subconsciously pressures itself on waking up rather than to just rest itself worry-free. But when I switch back to my night-owl mode, I never have such a problem nor do I need extra sleep.
      It's great that you find the rythm that suits you. A lot of people that I've known at school or work have physical/mental health issues related to sleep despite being an early riser.

      Put on blue blocking glasses a couple hours before bed. Uvex has some for like 10 dollars on Amazon that are really good for the price. They’re orange and really nerdy looking but they work. Also, magnesium and omega 3’s. For magnesium you can mix 3 tbsp milk of magnesia with a liter of seltzer water, close the bottle and shake. The reaction results in magnesium bicarbonate. Take 4 oz in the morning and at night for the first few months. That’s the cheapest, most bioavailable magnesium you can get. Magnesium oxide is trash and a waste of money. If you have more money try magnesium threonate. It passes the blood brain barrier very easily.

    No it's NOT OK to not have enough time to sleep.
    This is a severe problem. A largely systemic one too, mostly the result of our ridiculous approach to civilization and economics.
    Of course some individual action can change some of this - but that alone is not enough.
    Very interesting video though - re: lights.

  • @Kuiriel
    @Kuiriel 2 роки тому +1

    I have moderate to severe back pain and nerve pain in my lower body from an injury years ago. I sometimes go 3-4 days without sleeping, somewhere around the 3 day mark I usually start having motion hallucinations in my peripheral vision. I have a 16 million (or whatever) color light that I leave set on red and pretty dim. I keep black curtains closed over my bedroom windows which really helps.

    • @gricius
      @gricius 2 роки тому +1

      I can relate. Abused my body with incorrect exercising, now I have to manage back pain and poor sleep on a regular basis. I bought this light bulb, which emits candlelight colour. Prepares me for sleep really well. Breathing exercises are also incredible, not just for better sleep but for reducing back pain. There are many more things I do. One I would point out is diet. Food that bloats me, such as dairy would put pressure on nerve roots in my back, and basically eating dairy always leads to bad sleep.

    • @ChopBassMan
      @ChopBassMan 2 роки тому +1

      @@gricius I've adjusted my diet and lost around a hundred lbs. which has helped a lot. I will have to look into the light deal. I haven't tried that.
      I'm pretty sure that exercising wrong and bad posture had a part to play with my back troubles, although much of that was due to what the surgeon believed was a broken bone in my vertebra (L-5) while I was being born. He thinks that because I have no history of really bad back problems or pain until I injured my lower back falling in the bathroom ( bc of course I did haha). I did have a lot of pulled muscles in my back when I was younger which also fits with the Dr's supposition.
      Thank you for responding,it's always helpful to hear what other folks do for back problems - also it's always nice to have an extra reminder that I'm not alone.

    Lol I predicted the comment section for this one very accurately. Look, I get it, sometimes Dave Asprey has been spouting BS, as with mycotoxins in coffee. However, as far as I can tell, he is very much on point in this video. Though most of this is really common sense if you think about it.
    And yeah, he does have stuff to sell (though he really only mentions the glasses here. Turning off the lights and talking a walk are free). Imagine you're a smart guy and an entrepreneurial type and you're into health topics. Wouldn't you want to create products that you think are helpful and that you would like to use yourself? And wouldn't you mention these products when you're discussing these topics? What good is a great product if nobody knows about it? Not everybody who's got something to sell is trying to fuck you over.
    And if you really hate Mr. Asprey that much, you can get these types of blue-light-blocking glasses from lots of other manufacturers, too. They really do work.

    So it's cancer and diabetes for me. - I regularly go 2-3 days without sleep. Right now I'm awake at hour 48 actually, and still not tired. I'm not insomniac just a weird, irregular (non-)sleeper. I also tend to avoid all light sources except my computer screen (Which is on the lowest brightness setting and 50% reduced contrast.) I pay little to no sleep debt either; After I start to feel tired (~70h mark) a mere 10 hours is enough to completely regenerate - I wake up naturally. Of course I can pretend to be normal and put myself to bed every evening like a normal human being would, and then it's the prescribed amount of 9 hours sleep for me. But it's a chore to stick to that schedule and forcibly go to bed in a not completely exhausted state. If I stay up all night then go about my day as if it was a regular / fresh start of the cycle, I will sleep 10 hours that night (Diagnose me.)

      @@stelmarsky6778 Sunlight has antidepressive properties, yes. Sunlight, at least where the majority of people live, is abundant in their own summer. Sunglasses in winter? I can see that exacerbating SAD caused in part by deficiencies. In summer in a continental or in-between climate zone his claim is preposterous, and actually harmful. We need sunglasses to protect our eyes from UV radiation, which is ABUNDANT in summer same as sunlight. Wearing sunglasses in abundant sunlight during the longest days of the year will not cause any deficiencies related to sunlight, especially when it is SKIN exposure that allows us to create so many of these regulating vitamins.

    It's like a trend to not sleep. You're a lazy person if you do sleep 8 hours.. it's kinda silly, but then again, people who sleep good are most of the time beautiful and smart, those who dont look like Donald Trump, and yeah sure, you get an extra 3 or 4 hours in the day to do something, but those who sleep will have 15 to 30 extra years to live 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

    • @GuRuGeorge03
      @GuRuGeorge03 5 років тому +1

      yeah it really is silly. fields that require peak performance like sports actually have the trend of sleeping as much as possible, for example roger federer sleeps 12 hours a day, the grindy fields are obviously more widely spread though and when hours put in trump peak performance then being able to cut out sleeping time gives you a huge advantage. that is why you see many financially succesful people who sleep less than 6 hours a day, but the problem is like you mentioned, that "success" shouldnt be measured by the number in your bank account, quality of life is more than that, and lets be real, sleep is fucking amazing, so why cut time off of something that is amazing :D

    • @jesusdominguez401
      @jesusdominguez401 5 років тому +1

      @@GuRuGeorge03 yeah, it's super common for people to sleep 4 hours now days, and then we make it the norm for some reason.. my mom is like that, she never sleeps, and she makes fun of me for sleeping 8 hours during the week and around 9 on my days off. Quality of life is not just a number, like for sure having money is GREAT, but if it's at the expense of your health, then what's the point.

    I can sleep anywhere anytime I programmed comfort time the brightness of the room the temperature you can train yourself to not need them it's just uncomfortable to do sleeping on a cement floor when your bed is right beside you with blankets and pillows. What if I don't have beds blankets and pillows one day that would probably be the day I need to sleep the most to make sure I'm regenerating and recuperating so if I require no Creature Comforts for sleep for the ability to fall asleep anywhere with noise light Comfort is not a concern so flying in the wrong direction with your kid getting to bed at 1. Course you slept well you're mentally and physically exhausted from travelling imagine you're staying in a Manhattan hotel that is luxurious even if modestly and I have worked in high-end hotels and they do not purchase a single bed that is uncomfortable or hard to sleep in so you were set up perfectly to sleep well because you came from the west coast to the east coast which means you went back in time so you thought it was 4 a.m. or your body. Also the hotel itself would Grant you a level of subconscious security because the concierge the doorman the Bell man the Porter's everybody's so friendly and his people everywhere and they're wearing masks and there's hand sanitizer your room would have been thoroughly cleaned there's no real concerned so you saying you slept well in a hotel bed after flying across the country with a child which during the pandemic would be emotionally and psychologically taxing and physically where's my child does my child have their masks so on and so forth would be the most exhausting experience as a parent I think I'm not one but if I had my nephew's in that situation I will be on high alert for anyting because I need to protect and make sure because they're so young they're not doing something that could put them in Jeopardy that they don't know especially with the pandemic obviously you slept well the security guards help to at the hotel I don't find it amazing that you were able to sleep I would have been more surprised if you didn't. The body cannot take that much stressed in a day and flying travelling with a child during a pandemic must be the most terrorizing frightening situation of parent could be in. I quite the coronavirus to playing Russian roulette with a ghost that you don't know where the ghost is when or if they will appear or if they even pulled the trigger and if a bullet went off or not you're literally fighting a ghost that plays Russian roulette with you metaphorically you don't see the virus you don't know who has it you can't tell when you've got it what it's on and you won't know for up to two weeks and you've gotten sick or who even has given you the illness tell me that doesn't sound like a damn ghost playing Russian roulette with covid-19 bullets he doesn't shoot lead he shoot covin but I don't find your story believable you're not thinking big I expect more from this Channel honestly I am not traditionally educated as a university or College trade school injury and then educated myself for a decade and besides the fact that you're not coming across as believable or very credible or maybe exaggerating of course you slept only a monster like me wouldn't
