Set aside whatever you may think of the subject matter of this talk and then consider that you've just witnessed one of the most technically perfect examples of public speaking, ever! Every single aspect of this presenter's delivery was flawless. From the proverbial "ice breaker" to the rhythm and cadence of his expertly framed subject points, to his non-verbal communication, his scanning of the entirety of the room and right down to his moments of pause. This presenter's talk should be used as reference material for those who are looking to train people in the fine art of public speaking.
that last thing about going to bed only when you’re sleepy is so important!!! i started doing it without realizing and i hadnt noticed how i fall asleep in a few minutes of laying down
This is the most articulate Ted Talk I've ever heard... no ahhs, uhms and assorted vocal distractions. Just solid information well delivered from start to finish. Excellent job, Professor Matthew Walker!
I love sleeping. I don't let anyone try to guilt me about sleeping as much as I need to. We eat when we're hungry. We drink when we're thirsty. We must sleep when we're tired. Nothing to be ashamed of.
Very true, it is essential to sleep when needed as this is when most damage is done and true sleep deprivation counts. We damage our sleep cycles and circadian rhythm by abusing our biological synchronisation. It definitely causes cognitive impairment and is dangerous as well as unhealthy. Some of the latest studies by sleep scientists show how important it is to sleep when we need to. It is just as important than the number of hours of sleep. When we lack sleep we get more easily stressed and anxious, it also stresses the heart and brain. Everyone is a little different with their sleep or chronotype. Some need more hours sleep than others while a few rare number only need 4 or 5 but this is extremely rare so don't let anyone fool you into thinking this is healthy for most usual people, it isn't. Some will say they only sleep 5 or so hours and hold everyone else to their expectations or standards.
But there are things like overeating, overdrinking, and oversleeping. Basically, anything can be done to an excessive extent. Just make sure you don't do it. Anything excessive does the same amount damage as anything done short of requirement. Happy sleeping
Most humans finally need to learn again to care about themselves, their health and about the others. Instead of grinding for some materialism their whole life, sacrificing those important things. As well as they need to relearn what life means or actually is. Great work, great speech! Especially the part with the stigma of laziness.
This is one of the most eloquent speech I have ever listen to. Even if I am working while listening, I notice the clarity of every word he said. Such a good speaker.
@@jamesjazzy8040 open ur brain, clearly pointing out the importance of sleep rather than just saying it’s ‘good’, making people realise they need to prioritise in order to excel
@@jamesjazzy8040 Moron. He doesn't just tell you sleep is good. He tells you the problems with lack of sleep among humans, and a bit of the side effects and science behind it. That way, he can more effectively convey the importance of sleep, and get people to sleep more, since clearly the deprivation is a major issue in modern society. He explains that it should be resolved for the best performance in people's mental states, particularly memory, as well as the physical states, like in reproduction systems and the slowing of aging or strength of immune systems. It's not that he's telling you it's just good, but that people not having it is bad.
I commented previously and I notice I fell asleep half way through. Morning listening, clearly. This guy is one of the best orators. I always compare the effects of sleep to defragging a computer. For some this is a useful visual. Sleep is as important as hydration and nutrition. Sleep is the precurser.

*Summary: Get a deep sleep for 8hrs every day* Men who slept only 4-5 hrs had significantly smaller testicles and their testosterone levels were 10 years their age Sleep is the save button for learning and is also needed before learning In a study difference in learning between a group having slept for 8hrs and a group having pulled an all-nighter is 40% Hippocampus(informational inbox in brain) activity was much more in sleep rich and none in sleep-deprived Brain spindles in deep sleep makes file-transfer s which helps in retaining information. Sleep and cardiovascular activity are related- more heart attacks when daylight savings are on due to lesser sleep. Sleep and immune system- a huge 70% drop in immune killer cells when one gets a 4-hr sleep. The shorter your sleep shorter your life . There is a damaging impact of alcohol and caffeine on sleep Tips for better sleep: 1) Regularity in sleep - Sleep and wake up at the same time every day 2) Keep it cool- Keep the room cool for better sleep- optimal temperature is18degC If you toss and turn in bed- then go to a different room and do a different activity and come back when you feel sleepy- this will make associations in the brain between being sleepy and the bedroom
"Why We Sleep" is a great book I would recommend to anyone who is interested in more about this. It really changed how I view my sleep (lack of sleep) overall.
Psychology major here. I say this so more can perhaps become attentive to what i'm about to say, and decide to read this entire post, and not for any other purpose than this. Some more tips on how to get a better quality of sleep, I will also include some of the remarks made by Matt Walker. (1) Exercise regularly, 4-5 times/week for about 30 minutes. It doesn't have to be very intense, a brisk walk will do you wonders. (2) Maintain a healthy diet, by this I mean, exclude any processed foods, such as white rice, white pasta, maximize your intake of antioxidants, i.e. fruits and vegetables mostly. Instead of eating white rice, or white pasta, try to buy them in their "fuller" versions, i.e. brown pasta and rice. They will give you more fiber, vitamins and minerals. Nowadays we fill our bellies with foods high in calories, but incredibly low in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Cut down on saturated fats, i.e. fats found primarily in processed meats, like chicken and meat, but also in ice cream, candy, cookies, doughnuts and muffins. Chicken and meat is a good nutritional source in itself, but you should be wary of how the meat has been treated in the factories before consumption. (3) Try to eliminate any drug, alcohol or tobacco usage , not only will this make you sleep, and sleep better, but you will have a better quality of sleep, and it will do wonders to your health in general. (4) Try to eliminate any added sugar from your diet. Here are some of the effects of sugar consumption; information taken from a book by Susanna Ehdin, PhD in immunology. Sugar can cause; (i) Too low or high blood sugar levels. (ii) Sugar affects the structure of our proteins, hence (amongst other things), our ability to transport nutrients through our body becomes impaired. (iii) Sugar raises the level of bloodfats and cholesterol in your blood. (iv) Sugar can cause hyperactivity, inability to concentrate, excessive worrying, and irritable mood in children. (v) Sugar can cause depression. (vi) Sugar can cause fungal infections. (vii) Sugar can contribute to brittle-bone disease. (viii) Sugar can cause fatty plaques in your arteries, as well as cardiovascular diseases. (ix) Sugar can cause migraines and headaches. (x) Humans who consume excessive amounts of sugar has a three times higher risk of developing Parkinsons disease. (xi) The mothers sugar consumption during pregnancy can have effects on the development of her baby. (xii) Sugar has a correlation with the development of degenerative diseases, (diabetes, dementia, and kidney failure). (xiii) Sugar impairs your immune system. (5) Make sure you have good sleep hygiene, i.e. your bed should only be for sleeping, not anything else, so you can, as Walker pointed out here, make your brain have a more robust association with your bed and sleep. Maintain a night routine, this has been found to make your brain become "prepared" for sleep, i.e. dim the lights an hour before bed, avoid any bright lights, rigorous physical activity, and make sure you cool the temperature in your room. This will have a positive effect on your predisposition to sleep because your brain will start secreting hormones that are conducive to sleep. Disruption, i.e. having bright lights, a warm room, and staring aimlessly at a bright computer or phone screen, will impair your brains secretion of sleep hormones, and it will stimulate the secretion of cortisol, a hormone that makes you more alert. This is not conducive to sleep. (6) Make sure you drink 1-1.5 liter of water/day, your sleep quality will improve. (7) As Walker mentioned, maintain a sleep schedule, where you wake up, and sleep roughly during the same hours, everyday. (8) Make sure to PRIORITIZE your sleep, so if you have any work, don't postpone it until later, try to do everything before the hour of sleep is forthcoming. (9) Try to tidy up your room and make your bed, make sure you get FRESH air while sleeping, at least try to, so your body can get rid of its toxins more effectively, contrary to popular belief, we get rid of almost all of our toxins from breathing, so make sure to provide your body with fresh air, rich in oxygen for this process to work better. I know, that some of us do not have this luxury, and it pains me that it has to be like this. But hopefully, if you can open a window, or something else to let authentic air flow into your room, you should do this. And lastly, remember, as Walker remarked. Sleep is crucial for EVERY aspect of your life. No part of your body can escape the debilitating effects of sleep deprivation, trust me on this one. I really hope this helps you if you have reached the end of my post. Thank you for having read it, and if you can, please, spread the word so you can also contribute to a better quality of life amongst your loved ones. Thank you.
Franz Liszt you just copy pasted every point from every generic website that has been copy pasted from every other generic website that most of us have read 100 times. Thank you.
I'd always had the feeling that sleep improved my productivity. Now this speaker has confirmed many additional benefits of adequate sleep. Even Winston Churchill understood the importance of sleep. He took an afternoon nap every day and said he felt like he could get 2 days out of one by doing so, working well into the evening. Churchill was the original power napper.
Through middle school, I would go to bed at 8 and wake up at six thirty every day. School was a breeze, I was insanely creative, and I was very healthy overall. In high school I started going to bed from eleven to six. School got much harder almost immediately, my mood plummeted and I was much less healthy. This guy knows what he’s talking about. Edit: no I cannot prove that it was the sleep that changed me but if there was any anecdotal evidence to convince me so this would be it.
I had horrible insomnia during my middle school years. I would wake up every 60-90 minutes, never really getting to deep sleep. I wonder sometimes how much damage I really did in that time.
I have started exploring Ayurvedic lifestyle in hopes it will help me get much healthier. I mention it because it's all about balance and provides a new perspective on health. They say go to bed with the sun and get up before sunrise. Listening to Dr. Jack Kruse (neurosurgeon and biohacker) convinced me to get up at sunrise and to get outside in the a.m. light (multiple benefits). I have a bad habit of staying up learning on YT. Time to fix it! Good luck. It can be done! 💞

I finished my Degree in Biotechnology using this method; sleep before studying and sleep after studying. It is truly effective. I never cross-night or use energy drinks. Once I am tired, I sleep, or during study breaks I play a game or watch a series. A brain can be treated as a pet and can be submissive if trained. Thanks for this informative video Ted.
I also read his book “Why We Sleep” and tried sleeping for 8 hours every day for some time and during my learning process, I was surprised to see that I was doing way better than my “6 hours of sleep days”. Also sleeping less than 8 hours makes depression level increase.
When do you usually go to sleep and when do you wake up if i may ask? I'm trying so desperately to sleep at 9:00pm and wake up at 5:00am but my body is fighting this schedule so fiercely.
as far as I remember from the book, sleeping at 12 pm (midnight) improves memory and sleeping at 7 am improves creativity, so in order to have the full benefit of sleeping, you should be sleeping between those hours.
"I would like to start with testicles." -Matt Walker, best opening to a TED Talk. Is.. Is it weird that this is one of my most liked comments in a long time?.. Naaah.
Okay, but now let's aks in a different direction: What if you stay up until you feel sleepy then go the bed and stay in bed until you feel to wake up? If I let it happen, than I stay up till 02:00 and sleep in till 13:00. I don't think that is better. So?
If you're sleeping at 11-12 pm, then try sleeping at 10pm atleast for week, after that time you'll automatically feel sleepy around 10 pm! Your body & mind functions as you want, but first you need to make some good habits.
The subtitles are off by more than 5 seconds. Please correct! This video is too important to not have these set properly. Impressive speech by Matt. Please watch!
Or mothers of newborns, or just mothers 😂? Or police and firefighters? I read something a few years ago about the benefits that sleep deprivation can bring about through our brains needing to totally relearn how to function which is actually a strength. So, although I do agree sleep is wonderful but the reasons we aren't sleeping are more important: lack of physical action, lack of emotionally and physical connection to others, depression, poor diet, lack of time in sunshine or fresh air, etc. Those things keep us awake at night and those things really harm us.

In India, many students who are preparing for government exams sleep only for about 5-6 hours and they think that they will produce more outcomes from the day, but they are mistaken. They don't know that they are degrading themselves by doing this. "Sleep well to make your day more productive, and one more thing: please go to bed early at night and get up early in the morning. Exercise for about 30-50 minutes in the morning to make your day more productive."🙂

As someone sleeping for 4 hrs often , i really cried cause i never knew how much suffering im putting on my body despite abstaining myself from vices. I love to watch this before 10pm everyday so i can appreciate 8 hrs of life support
Dont worry. 8 htrs of sleep is overrated. Spending 1/3 of your life sleeping is simply laziness. 4-6 hrs for adults are sufficient. What you need is restlfullness not necessarily sleep.
@Itzvihaan he may have his thesis, but that doesnt mean he is absolutely right. You're analogy is also weak, it's like saying no one can challenge Stalin's view just because he spent his life studying communism. This 8 hour sleep garbage have already been challenged from different cultures' perspectives. 8 hour is convenient to affirm Western 9 to 5 office herd mentality. How's that for a random internet person with independent rationale behind it.

Tell me how much have you done? Will you be willing to apply for a PhD on that area of academics? The only time your argument is even worth considering is if you have. If you haven't, then please shut up. Also tell me about the "different cultures" that challenge this idea since you didn't name any the first time.

I think the importance of sleep is very overlooked. I totally believe that sleep functions as a kind of self reparation self healing cycle for the human body. In the sense that any health issue you have will be helped greatly if you just allow your body to completely slow down and go to sleep. Good deep sleep clears the mind, recharges the body, it is simply good for health.
I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea recently, after the first night of using my CPap machine….I woke up and it was unbelievable how much a difference it made, I realized this is what it is like to get a good nights sleep…life changing…I had 71 episodes per hour down to 1-2 per hour…life saving….my kids videoed me and showed it to me…they asked me to please get a sleep study…I’m so grateful I listened to them 🙏🏼 ladies if you are post menopause our rates of diagnosis equal that of men.
This is exactly what I try to explain to my patients who are reluctant to trying CPAP. You'll feel a huge difference afterwards and you're quality of sleep and life will drastically increase. Also, if you are on a high pressure and are ever having difficulty tolerating it, talk to your Dr. About BIPAP, it'll help ease your breathing while on a higher pressure.

Walker's top recommendations: 1. Avoid naps throughout the day. 2. Regularity: Go to bed and wake up at the same time, even on weekends. 3. Keep room cool, approximately 65 degrees. 4. Keep your bed as a place only for sleep.
I’ve been sober for almost 2 months now. My sleep has gotten us substantially better. I feel way more content, and my life has gotten better in every aspect.
Having a part-time job and coursework at the age of 22 has made me realise how important sleep is to my health. After watching this TED talk, I now recognize how important it is to give it top priority. My ability to think clearly is strongly impacted by sleep. Getting enough sleep helps me stay focused and improves my memory. Exam preparation is greatly impacted by Walker's emphasis on the importance of sleep for memory consolidation. Sleep helps me manage my stress and maintain emotional stability. With the right amount of sleep, the stress of juggling work and school is much easier to handle. I am more anxious when I don't get enough sleep. On days when I don't get enough sleep, I am less forgiving. The impact on physical health is also significant. My immune system is weakened by burnout, which I may experience if I have to work through the night for work and classes. Walker emphasises the need of sleep for long-term recovery and wellness. To put it another way, I've come to understand how crucial sleep is to achieving optimal intellectual, emotional, and physical performance. Undoubtedly, combining responsibilities is a major task, but from now on, I will view sleep as a solid foundation that needs to be taken into account in my life rather than as an afterthought in my hectic schedule.
@@elviwombat7080 I plan one day ahead on my phone calendar and I do everything possible to follow it. Including going to bed at the same time nightly. I also don’t eat heavy 3 hours before bed. Maybe light fruit and a small hot tea if I feel hungry. Consistency is key. Once you have a routine it gets easier. I also added meditating into my sleep nightly.
Really interesting ! Particularly, " first, it's because human beings are the only species that deliberately deprive themselves of sleep for no apparent reason". (17:57)

His baby size shirt & two-toned, suede boota keeo me awake at night i.e. bug eyed, mouth agape, tongue flicking in, out and left to right. Ram rod engorged (wait, thats not due to him).
Love the analogy " you'd never wait at the dinner table to get hungry, so don't wait in bed to get tired." If you can't sleep and tossing and turning at night, simply get out of bed, occupy yourself doing something out of bed.
what pisses me off is the 1 hour leading up to getting ready for work, getting ready for bed, 1 hour lunch cutting the time for when i want to do things which I need a lot of every day
What about the 2 hours travel time to and from work a lot of people have. Also lots of jobs make you work 9+ hours a day. A lot of people are lucky to get 5-6 hours a night. 8 hours is not realistic for a large part of the population. Realistically you are lucky to have a few hours for "play". Your advice sounds good but is not practical or realistic in today's world.
I work 14hrs a day. 12 on site and 1hr each way for the drive. Get about 5-6 hrs of sleep if im lucky. Have no life for 2 weeks than a week off to catch up
I’ve been an insomniac since college. Talked to many doctors (all I’ve spoken with have a very limited understanding of the problem). What he describes makes perfect sense. I feel like I have zero short term memory, I lose thing all the time, my thinking slows, takes me longer to come up with words/vocabulary, slows my writing and thinking. It’s horrendous. I get anxiety just thinking about going to bed. Hope more can be done in this area. I find if I just get into a rhythm, sometime I stay there. Usually takes meds to get me there but then I try to get myself off them and get natural sleep. Nothing is better than a full night of natural sleep. Nothing.
Watching this video at 3.00 am and decided to sleep @ 10.00 pm to 5.00 am for my regularity sleep routine and regain my core strength back😴😴😴 Thanks Matt Walker
You should have a 7.5 of sleep to be able to wake up at the end of the last sleep cycle. You will feel awake and fresh when you wake up. And it takes 15 minutes on average to fall asleep. So for example if you want to wake up at 5 am you should go to sleep at 9.15. Good luck!
This is the best TED talk I have ever come across. I have been struggling with sleep deprivation for a long time. The whole speech has been very insightful and I'm going to be more serious when it comes to sleep from now on. Thank you, Matt Walker and TED.
I have found breathing exercises very useful in getting myself to sleep whenever I don't feel sleepy at bedtime. Or doing a countdown from 100 or from 200 to zero depending on how sleepless I am. And if I run out of sleep at 3am, I sometimes just conclude that I have had enough sleep and stop worrying about being awake. He says :"Don't stay in bed waiting to get sleep just the same way you don't sit at the dinner table waiting to get hungry"
God has been showing me that my poor sleeping habits like some all-nighters are my problem. I have improved but not enough. Today, God led me hear to listen to you. You have sufficiently scared me straight! Thanks dude! I needed this. God bless you for your passion in this matter as you are literally saving lives.
Very impactful! I have been getting less and less sleep since I started management, and I noticed that I was getting sick a lot. This is definitely encouraging information!
One of the most important Ted videos. Perhaps humanity is so screwed up because most of us running on a few hours of sleep, making decisions with unclear minds
Awaking to an alarm will cause more problems than anything else this guy has mentioned. Mainly your mood if you don't wake up at 'your' precise waking cycle. Sleeping too long or too little will affect you. One person waking in a bad mood can be detrimental to many. For example, A President of a nation? How many people's lives can he put in danger as a result of not waking to a proper sleep cycle. This clown on the video completely ignored 'natural' sleep. He works for the system and is telling people through fear how you should live your life. So not getting 'your' precise amount of sleep can certainly kill you or many others. This guy wasn't around when we lived off the land and had to be alert for all sorts of danger and has completely ignored this fact. Do you seriously expect every other species living with us in this world is getting a solid 8 hours sleep or the equivalent. We have to continue readdressing our lives with the world around us. Having a new world built up around us, with gadgets and people who look intelligent giving presentations can only deceive us. If we require truths and answers they are mostly simple and all around us. But i the real world, where insects, animals, plants, trees and nature come together and do there thing. We live in artificial times with lashings of fake news.
@@EmoPeter2000 No, I don't think I would. I think they'd be getting the amount of natural sleep dpendant on how secure they feel and working on other instincts. Anything artificial in anythings life will have an adverse effect. The only people telling you otherwise are the manufacturers of gadgets or people who have a job based on psychology and have to be different to stand out. Life is simple until humans complicate it.
Michał W don’t worry these guys are just bothering people making them worry of nonsense things. You know what when you need sleep automatically you will go to sleep. And has no connection to deaths.
ya i have some problem with sleep. im just employd new job after college. i can sleep 8 hours but not fall deep sleep. when i sleep can hear out our windows what they talking or dogs barking cars engines etc. i used to this my last year cz im going to graduate so much work to do. but its same this 3months. (sorry my bad english)
I started taking my sleep seriously and i do notice a difference, in my mood and how I handle on my day to day. I noticed my sleep was better in a cold room too. Keep the room dark. Melatonin helps me too, I wake up refreshed.
Try Vitamin D too. Some crazy number of people are Vitamin D deficient in the U.S, and simply supplementing with a 500IU pill once a day does amazing things. You can buy a year's worth of Vitamin D sups for like $14. It's really worth it.
This was so clear and so important. The only missing piece is how to get other people in your home to buy into this. Kids popping up to wake you up, spouses or partners with different schedules coming to bed after you're asleep, disturbing you with their snoring etc.
I read about this tip to stop your partner from snoring, and it works when I try it with my husband. I keep a bottle of room spray (you can also use perfume or body spray) next to my bed. When my husband is snoring, I hold it up a couple feet over his face and spray it up in the air. The spray settles down onto him and the smell causes him to stir, turn over, and stop snoring. The beauty of this method is, you don't have to get yelled at for kicking, shaking a shoulder, etc...

Breath control. Public speaking is a common fear. This speaker is so at ease, he may as well be in his living room telling his grandkids a story.

I love sleeping. I don't let anyone try to guilt me about sleeping as much as I need to. We eat when we're hungry. We drink when we're thirsty. We must sleep when we're tired. Nothing to be ashamed of.
Some people are very efficient at making you feel guilty. I was surprised of how proficient someone could get at it.
Thank you
But there are things like overeating, overdrinking, and oversleeping. Basically, anything can be done to an excessive extent. Just make sure you don't do it. Anything excessive does the same amount damage as anything done short of requirement. Happy sleeping
Thank you for that comment :)
Most humans finally need to learn again to care about themselves, their health and about the others. Instead of grinding for some materialism their whole life, sacrificing those important things. As well as they need to relearn what life means or actually is.

Moron.

*Summary: Get a deep sleep for 8hrs every day*
Men who slept only 4-5 hrs had significantly smaller testicles and their testosterone levels were 10 years their age
Sleep is the save button for learning
and is also needed before learning
In a study difference in learning between a group having slept for 8hrs and a group having pulled an all-nighter is 40%
Hippocampus(informational inbox in brain) activity was much more in sleep rich and none in sleep-deprived
Brain spindles in deep sleep makes file-transfer
s which helps in retaining information.
Sleep and cardiovascular activity are related- more heart attacks when daylight savings
are on due to lesser sleep.
Sleep and immune system- a huge 70% drop in immune killer cells when one gets a 4-hr sleep.
The shorter your sleep shorter your life
.
There is a damaging impact of alcohol and caffeine
on sleep
Tips for better sleep:
1) Regularity in sleep
- Sleep and wake up at the same time every day
2) Keep it cool- Keep the room cool for better sleep- optimal temperature is18degC
If you toss and turn in bed- then go to a different room and do a different activity and come back when you feel sleepy- this will make associations in the brain between being sleepy and the bedroom

Sugar can cause;
(i) Too low or high blood sugar levels.
Thank you.

Or mothers of newborns, or just mothers 😂? Or police and firefighters? So, although I do agree sleep is wonderful but the reasons we aren't sleeping are more important: lack of physical action, lack of emotionally and physical connection to others, depression, poor diet, lack of time in sunshine or fresh air, etc. Those things keep us awake at night and those things really harm us.

Keep naps to 30 min max or at least 90 minutes (one sleep cycle). Anywhere in between and you’ll go into a broken sleep cycle and feel worse.
This should be mandatory to watch! Everyone needs to see this!

Love the analogy " you'd never wait at the dinner table to get hungry, so don't wait in bed to get tired."
If you can't sleep and tossing and turning at night, simply get out of bed, occupy yourself doing something out of bed.
Sleep is our greatest life support system, well said
24 hours = 8 hours each for sleep, work, and play. Good advice and practice.
what pisses me off is the 1 hour leading up to getting ready for work, getting ready for bed, 1 hour lunch cutting the time for when i want to do things which I need a lot of every day
What about the 2 hours travel time to and from work a lot of people have.
Have no life for 2 weeks than a week off to catch up
You only need 6 hours of sleep each day to live
@@GG-vq6ro that's the play part
Nothing.
Try the wim hof methode
Try 10 mg of melatonin every night. Don't get off. And a daylight lamp in the morning. Trust me.
10 mg, not less
Try cold showers and working out
To catch up on sleep you could try NSDR / Yoga nidra at some point during the day
the problem is your awake time, you can only have good sleep if your time awake is not idle
Good luck!
His info is life changing…in quality and quantity. I’ve watched a few other interviews with him on UA-cam that were so dense in research and tips.

I have found breathing exercises very useful in getting myself to sleep whenever I don't feel sleepy at bedtime. Or doing a countdown from 100 or from 200 to zero depending on how sleepless I am. And if I run out of sleep at 3am, I sometimes just conclude that I have had enough sleep and stop worrying about being awake.

how are you now? how long is yoir average sleep every night?
Starting from today, am going to bed on time, turn off the lights 3 hours before bedtime. I need to do this for a healthy life. Thank you Matt Walker.

@@1i2cVision You'd be surprised athow much other animals sleep.

I'm watching this 3 hours before clocking in to my night shift for January
