Maya was gaslit into believing that she wasn't Maya unless she was wearing cheap clothes, acting out in school, being aggressive, and getting bad grades. She was punished for growing as a character by the people closest to her.

God, that whole storyline was so dumb... Maya probably had the best character development on the entire show, but everyone shoved that down and painted like that was a bad thing. Newsflash assholes, people grow and mature, no one is the same as they were at thirteen. She became better because she found a healthy support system, but since she got in the way of Riley and Lucas's "perfect romance", they took all that growth away from her.

I loved Wizards of Waverly place.. BUT.. THEY PUT ME THROUGH A FRICKEN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER. First Justin lodes Juliet, then he thinks she’s back, then she’s finally back and I thought it was a trick. THEN Alex loses Mason, gets him back, loses him again, gets him back, thinks she can’t date him because she won’t be a wizard, believe she can win again, and lastly she wins (which I didn’t think would happen) and gets to stay with him.
The only reason not to make KC & Brett endgame is that in the future reunion episode it would be impossible to find actors inhumanly beautiful enough to play their children.

I’ll never forgive Disney for making maya this hyper toxic girlfriend that only wanted to fight with Lucas at all times when she very clearly showed that was never who she wanted to be but was who she thought she HAD to be because people kept leaving her.
Even Josh said she had the biggest compacity for love all Maya wanted to do was be with Riley because Riley was her safe place and what was what made her stay in check because she loved Riley so much and looked at her as an influence. But Riley didn't show as much compassion for Maya as Maya did for her. Riley may have been the main character but I feel like she was just there...that one extra that get to many scenes. Maya was way more than what they tried to make her be PERIOD

Well Jacobs stated the whole thing was never suppose to be drawn out it was suppose to end in the New Year Eve episode but Uriah who plays Joh got injured and wasn’t able to film for later half of Season 2 where he stated Josh and Maya relationship would grow and to show Maya that’s its okay to mature and change but don’t lose yourself to your influences as the major lesson was always people change people. Riley and her family changed Maya in a good way, but she was slowly becoming Riley her likes and wants were becoming heavily influenced by Riley that she thought what she want really wasn’t her it was the wants Riley. Was it terrible that they drawn it out until Josh was able to return oh hell yeah. But truthfully it was stupid for them to introduce the love triangle when Jacob stated Lucas likes Riley and Maya likes Josh. Instead of focusing on the love triangle they should’ve focus on Mayas growth and Riley balancing her time with Lucas and Maya.
The whole Maya “being Riley” and her not being herself was so dumb. Like she had personal growth and everybody immediately was like “that’s not you.” Her supposed best friends said she wasn’t herself just because she dressed nicer and got better grades. Disney really ruined Maya. She was such an amazing character that they could’ve done so many things with. That and the Lucas and Maya campfire scene was so much more passionate than anything Riley and Lucas could ever have. Personally though none of the ships were the best and they all felt pretty forced. If I had to choose though, I would say Lucaya would win over Rucas.

i just realized how low-key toxic riley was towards maya. maya clearly developed and grew as a person towards the end of the series, and riley made her feel like crap because of it. it was almost as if riley enjoyed the fact that she was the "privileged, cutesy, dorky girl", and liked the fact that her best friend was the "poor, hardened, traumatized girl", who was always at rileys house. it felt like riley enjoyed having a best friend who she thought was "her responsibility", that she liked being tho one who did well in school and had a stable home life. when maya started trying harder in school, and she finally got the family she'd always wanted, it was like riley couldn't cope with the fact that they both now had the same goals, and that maya was actually doing good in life and turning into a strong woman, it was like riley go jealous or something, and she brought down mayas character, and destroyed her character development. (and honestly, even after ALLLLL that, maya was STILL the superior main character. riley just wasn't as interesting)
Yeah and even worse, Riley was raised that way, she was constantly reminded that she needs to educate maya, or that she was better than her, they had that whole compering to shawn and cory situation while shawn and Cory i believe had a bit different relationship. The way they ruined her art just to make a point, though it didn't really made sense that she suddenly drew a purple cat. And most of all, the way Riley's parents supported her when she pushed Maya back to being damaged... Im so mad at them messing up such good show. This video really showed me how Disney is very stuck on not growing and staying where you are or believing the past is always better (also in how almost every character in disney channel couldn't move on from their firat love)

But now that for curiosity i search Farkle x Riley moments (for other seasons) and they are so adorable, like they were Topanga x Cory for me.

I was always super confused about that! They’re always like “Maya only likes Lucas because she’s becoming like Riley” but Maya didn’t want Lucas to ride the bull because she felt protective of him and worried about him (like a girlfriend) and Riley pushed him to do it because she wanted the best for him (like a friend or sister). And I used to ship Rucas when I was younger and first watched girl meets world, but now I don’t think it really worked.

The fact that they never explored a relationship between Riley and Farkle is a crime in my opinion. I genuinely feel like they had a better connection than Riley and Lucas ever did. I remember being obsessed with the idea Riley and Farkle being endgame and I stand by the belief that they should've been.
Same, literally when farkle took the blame for failing the assignment for not having faith in her was so adorable! And that moment where he tells Riley “And I love you.” So cute! Such a better ship. Lucas and Riley is so boring.

I'm not sure if the network would've gone for it in the end, but I'm still convinced on some level that they were supposed to end up together. Riley always felt a little more grounded and mature in her scenes with Farkle than with anyone else.

what i've noticed is its more of a dove cameron thing than a disney thing. like with liv and maddie, maddie and diggie stay together because ryan and dove are dating. in descendants mal is in a (slightly toxic but i'll get into why i don't like it if anyone is interested) relationship with ben. dove was going to have mal and harry get together because she is dating thomas doherty, who plays harry. she added weird flirty things with harry and mal that genuinely make no sense knowing the context of the characters. they hate each other. and dove is literally the least professional actor i have ever scene. she was rude and snobby to china during the filming of descendants 2 & 3 because uma and harry are love interests in the movie. and just in general she's not a great actor, but that's not the point. the bottom line is dove isn't professional and needs to get her priorities straight. TL;DR: dove cameron often forces characters that shouldn't be together to date because she is dating her co star.

However when Maya started getting over the difficulty of her childhood and growing up, getting better grades, she was determined to tear her down. She seems like she doesn’t want the status quo to change because she enjoys her image and the dynamic between her and Maya and her position in it, and did not care for her growing best friend, she manipulated her with the lie that she “became her” tearing down her progress and forcing her to return back to the way things were because she has this fantasy or image in her head that she is determined to have which shows when Lucas was about to ride the bull. She didn’t care for his well being or safety at all, all she wanted was for that stupid fantasy of hers with Lucas as the hero to remain, with no actual regard for Lucas himself, not to mention how possessive she is over him. She got so angry when she found out Maya liked him, even though she didn’t act on it, and was fairly rude to Maya about it, as if she is entitled to Lucas and has any right to who Maya can like. And I think (this is a personal opinion) that she started being manipulative and convincing Maya to change because as she matured Lucas started liking Maya more. She didn’t like the change in status quo but a bigger drive was probably Lucas since she felt super entitled to him

Also funny enough in BMW there was a little bit of a love triangle between Shawn Topanga and Corey but I don't think it dragged on for this long...or it was really like this. I wish this show was made kind of now because Disney already broke it's 4 season rule they could have had GMW go slower so we could see all the characters, especially Maya's growth like in the original.
My thoughts on ruined couples: 1) Chad was actually the more emotionally aware of the two; he was perfectly cognizant of his feelings for Sonny while she was kind of oblivious to why she circled back to him so much. 2) The thing that made Lucaya so great is that she brought out his more interesting qualities. He played into her jokes, she embraced his more aggressive tendencies. Maya is what elevated Lucas beyond just a nice guy. 3) I have never watched KC Undercover but I now ship Brett and KC so damn hard. There is so much chemistry between them it might set off a bomb.
Update: have watched the Brett episodes and found that K.C./Brett is the only thing that made that show watchable. They also completely wasted the idea of Brett being a double agent. Brett and K.C. could have repeatedly run into each other on missions, causing both of them problems because of their inability to stop each other. But no, one episode of Dark Brett and he’s gone.

Yes with point number 2: Riley's perception of Lucas being this perfect guy that she has not let go of since they are in MIDDLE SCHOOL is really what stunted any possible character growth for Lucas. She really put homeboy into a box and he got comfy in that box. Shame.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Lucas/Maya campfire non-kiss has more genuine passion in it than dozens of kissing scenes I could name. That alone makes them an unforgettable ship.

Watching this from an adult perspective makes me realize just how much Disney is screwing up girls' minds and their perspectives on love and dating. Every show has an incredibly nice guy (Josh, Lucas, Beau) and either one of two things happen: they don't end up with them because of story sake (move away etc) OR the more twisted reason is they choose a jerk guy who doesn't have their best interests at heart. WOW. We wonder why young women choose guys that are crap for them. Because it is ingrained in our brains from the time we're little girls that nice guys are not who we need.
And also Jessie from Hannah Montana (sure they end up endgame but in "He Could Be The One" she chooses Jake because she loved him, then like a season or 2 later Jake cheats on her then she ends up with Jessie. That was always weird to me)

I think Maya had an identity crisis tbh. Her "checking to see if Lucas is good for Riley" honestly made no sense, it's true. But even after choosing Josh, she was still good, but she was more Maya which made sense for her not wanting to be with Lucas. I think Lucas always preferred Riley but didn't want to mess up the friendship group by choosing so he kept putting it off and made it seem like such a difficult decision. As soon as Maya chose Josh he exposed that it was always Riley. I think he wanted to protect her feelings. It makes sense but it doesn't make sense. Lucas and Maya definitely had a sibling vibe in the beginning, with the teasing and arguing. Everyone wanted it to be an enemy to lovers trope but that's just so unnecessary, he never got jealous when it came to Maya and he couldn't talk to her about vulnerable things like he could with Riley.

That was because the show ended up abruptly because Demi Lovato went to rehab. It was obvious from the last episode that they would get back together if the show had continued. Chad needed to put aside his ego, which he finally learned to do in the last episode, setting a foundation for a stronger, healthier, future relationship with Sonny.
The fact that Girl Meets World filmed an alternate campfire scene and never realised it is upsetting. (The GMW Writers confirmed that they filmed an alternate scene where Lucas and Maya would have kissed but decided to go with the other scene). GMW FILMED A potentially CANON LUCAYA and decided not to give it to us!

I absolutely hated Diggy. At first Maddie and Diggy were cute but then you realize that the relationship was incredibly stereotypical and that in real life they wouldn’t have stayed together because they were so alike that it made them complacent. Josh and Maddie were much more spontaneous and they were more interesting to watch. Also the scene with Maya and Lucas by the campfire was soooo good. The chemistry was exhilarating, the first time I watched it I had goosebumps. Lastly, Holden and Liv were perfect together. Like Diggy and Maddie they came together because they had similar interests, but they had real chemistry.

The whole “maya turned into Riley” is bullshit, she started developing feelings she before denied to feel because she was hurt, and Riley as her “best friend” should have supported her, when she started getting good grades, Riley said, your became me, like wtf? you are not happy that she can get a better future now that she is doing better at school. AND RUCAS IS BORING, BASIC, GOOD GIRL MEETS GOOD BOY AND LIVE HAPPY EVER AFTER, but Maya had his daddy issues that made her a powerful woman, and Lucas, yes kinda basic, but we get to know about his anger issues that makes him more interesting, BUT RILEY IS PERFECT PARENTS, PERFECT DAUGHTER, PERFECT BROTHER, and that is boring. PLUS MAYA AND LUCAS’S CHEMISTRY WAS WAY BETTER THAN RILEY AND LUCAS’S...IF THEY HAD ONE...thank you for listening to my opinion. 🙈

Without wanting to put other actors down, just from these two minute scenes you can tell how good of an actress Sabrina Carpenter is when compared to everyone else. She just has a broader range and control of the scenes she's in. Also, I know it's been said already but Hannah Montana proved that having history is no reason to continue a ship as they ended the show with Miley and Jesse

This is one reason why Zay was so refreshing in Girl Meets World because he was rarely in a relationship, but he was still a great character and added a lot to the show! Sadly he didn't have very much screen time, partially because he wasn't in a relationship, but he was still such an awesome character and good person despite not being in a relationship if that makes sense

I think Lucaya was better bc we were introduced to Rucas after Riley see Lucas and thinks he’s kinda cute. Then we see Lucas, Riley and maya develop a friendship, and like cait said how it revealed that she only made fun of Lucas was bc she didn’t know how to comprehend her feelings. He was the only one on the show that had fire chemistry with maya and personally I would’ve loved to see Farkle and Riley since it would be boy chases girl and slowly makes her fall in love with him, personally it would just be better for the entire show

The fact that maya can’t get good grades because that’s Riley’s thing or a nice guy because clearly compared to Riley she isn’t good enough. So she becomes the very opposite off her to not be a threat to her, to make Riley like her. And we know that because we saw her capable of getting good grades, she isn’t dumb which means that she is purposefully trying to make herself seem that way. It is tragic that no one thought “the angsty teenager” everyone saw her as was just a persona. And that instead of pretending to be Riley she was actually beginning to let herself be more vulnerable. But whatever that’s Riley’s thing maya is tough and she is mean to people.
I totally agree. That was such an awful relationship if Maya couldn't better herself due to being "like Riley". I had a friend who used to try and convince me not to grow as a person because she refused to do the same, but she didn't want to be lesser than me. Because of that, I ended it. And I just hate when friendships act this way. Friends should be allowed to grow without feeling like they're becoming better than the other is whatever. Maya deserved so much more than what her character was dealt.

I think it is mainly seen when they started that storyline with the you are turning into riley thing. Like we have seen in the Halloween episode (i know we can't trust it cause thats what the writers wanted but still) Maya would have turned out that way anyway, and at the beginning of the show Riley did help maya evolve. The reasons for her being "the bad kid" are not only because of Riley, she also grew up with a single mom, felt unseen, hung out with some bad people, had abandonment issues, didn't have people at home to help her with her homework. So she put on this show of being tough and all to not have to deal with that. It's not unusual and i dont thi k you can put it all on riley cause at the beginning she did support her, later on disney just ruined it, or if we are talking characters, riley started being jealous or afraid (kinda reminds me of the kim possible movie) and so she did some messed up shit with he family behind her to push Maya's evolvement down(including everything you said), but it wasnt all her, and wasn't all of the time... Thats my opinion at least... (Also, the adults here really made the situation worse, how could they agree with Riley and turn on maya like that? Make her stay their little pet they could take credit over)

An honorable mention that I would add to the list is Raven and Devon. They were so cute and the longest ship that lasted on Disney Channel. It really sucks that they didn’t last and were divorced. But atleast theyre on good terms and co-parent civilly. But they had adorable chemistry on “Thats So Raven”.

The reason they broke up was dumb because Chad’s whole arc was about him giving up his ego and pride to show he really loved Sonny so it was so out of character for him to recount the votes to win the award. But knowing the show had to be abruptly cancelled because of what went on behind the scenes, I feel like if they knew the show would be ending that whole plot would have never happened.

the whole "maya became riley" thing still makes me soooo mad like ??? they were like "oh you've been acting and dressing up just like riley because you were becoming riley" and it just never made any sense to me?? maya clearly was NOT acting like riley at any moment and yeah she changed her style earlier in the show to one she felt more comfortable with but that didn't have anything to do with riley, it was about her own personal growth and coming to terms with who she really wanted to be after hiding herself for so long. then they just slapped a leather jacket on her for an episode and were like here you go now you're maya again but as soon as that plot was over she went back to wearing the same style as she had already been wearing (and allegedly copying riley or whatever lol) so where did that even come from?? it also pisses me off how lucas never really had a say in this. they were like "have you chosen yet? well it doesn't matter cause whoever you picked, you picked riley" (which again makes no sense at all). it's very disappointing how they turned maya's growth and the fact that she became a little more mature and comfortable with herself as "you've become another person to protect said person" when really she was 100% still herself just growing up as they all should. and then to make things worse they just randomly put her in another weird ass love triangle with zay and josh and it didn't even make sense lmao she deserved so much better
Yeah I COMEPLETELY agree but one thing I think you missed is that in a LOT of the episodes they mention Riley being a GOOD INFLUENCE on Maya and when she was, everyone hated her. One more thing, Lucaya was SOOOOO much better than Rucas, Maya and Lucas had SOOOOO much chemistry Rucas feels so forced and you can tell that Lucas and Maya actually care about each other. I completely agree with the “Riley and Lucas are brother and sister” plot it made A LOT of sense that people would think that.

Angel Angels lol I still stand by what I said. Riley and her whole family could've been a good influence but it will never take credit completely for Maya's growth and achievements. Although the right guidance makes it easier, it doesn't necessarily change a person at all! That was all Maya who did the work, you can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped.
Kc and Brett is the one that angers me most because SHE STILL LOVES HIM!!!! In the episode where she was living her dream scenario in season 2, she had run away with Brett, she totally would have done it!!!!! And in season 3 episode 1 or 2, i cant remember, it was shown that she's still in contact with him, so yeah, they're def endgame in my mind and will forever be. I'm grateful for that show to have started Ross Butler's acting career, truly a gem.

The show talks about topics that need to be talked about but the writers had no idea how to do it. For instance the episode where Riley tries to be bad for a debate they act like it's a bad thing to like doing bad stuff sometimes and Riley barely did anything to be bad. Also Maya was growing up and getting more character development and apparently she can't dress nice, like the same boy as Riley, or get good grades? The whole storyline of that episode was horrible like she was becoming a better person but apparently becoming a better person is being like RIley
Especially considering Shawn's story in boy meets world which is sooo heartbreaking It's good to know that he actually ends up with someone who truly cares about him and that he actually gets married

THEN Alex loses Mason, gets him back, loses him again, gets him back, thinks she can’t date him because she won’t be a wizard, believe she can win again, and lastly she wins (which I didn’t think would happen) and gets to stay with him.
The only reason not to make KC & Brett endgame is that in the future reunion episode it would be impossible to find actors inhumanly beautiful enough to play their children.

Well Jacobs stated the whole thing was never suppose to be drawn out it was suppose to end in the New Year Eve episode but Uriah who plays Joh got injured and wasn’t able to film for later half of Season 2 where he stated Josh and Maya relationship would grow and to show Maya that’s its okay to mature and change but don’t lose yourself to your influences as the major lesson was always people change people. Riley and her family changed Maya in a good way, but she was slowly becoming Riley her likes and wants were becoming heavily influenced by Riley that she thought what she want really wasn’t her it was the wants Riley. Was it terrible that they drawn it out until Josh was able to return oh hell yeah. But truthfully it was stupid for them to introduce the love triangle when Jacob stated Lucas likes Riley and Maya likes Josh. Instead of focusing on the love triangle they should’ve focus on Mayas growth and Riley balancing her time with Lucas and Maya.
The whole Maya “being Riley” and her not being herself was so dumb. Like she had personal growth and everybody immediately was like “that’s not you.” Her supposed best friends said she wasn’t herself just because she dressed nicer and got better grades. Disney really ruined Maya. She was such an amazing character that they could’ve done so many things with. That and the Lucas and Maya campfire scene was so much more passionate than anything Riley and Lucas could ever have. Personally though none of the ships were the best and they all felt pretty forced. If I had to choose though, I would say Lucaya would win over Rucas.

i just realized how low-key toxic riley was towards maya. maya clearly developed and grew as a person towards the end of the series, and riley made her feel like crap because of it. it was almost as if riley enjoyed the fact that she was the "privileged, cutesy, dorky girl", and liked the fact that her best friend was the "poor, hardened, traumatized girl", who was always at rileys house. it felt like riley enjoyed having a best friend who she thought was "her responsibility", that she liked being tho one who did well in school and had a stable home life. when maya started trying harder in school, and she finally got the family she'd always wanted, it was like riley couldn't cope with the fact that they both now had the same goals, and that maya was actually doing good in life and turning into a strong woman, it was like riley go jealous or something, and she brought down mayas character, and destroyed her character development.
(and honestly, even after ALLLLL that, maya was STILL the superior main character. riley just wasn't as interesting)
Yeah and even worse, Riley was raised that way, she was constantly reminded that she needs to educate maya, or that she was better than her, they had that whole compering to shawn and cory situation while shawn and Cory i believe had a bit different relationship. The way they ruined her art just to make a point, though it didn't really made sense that she suddenly drew a purple cat. And most of all, the way Riley's parents supported her when she pushed Maya back to being damaged... Im so mad at them messing up such good show. This video really showed me how Disney is very stuck on not growing and staying where you are or believing the past is always better (also in how almost every character in disney channel couldn't move on from their firat love)

How the heck did anyone buy the "Maya was pretending to be Riley" story line? The first time it's confirmed that she likes Lucas is when she DOESN'T want him to ride the bull and Riley DOES. Wth?
I was always super confused about that! They’re always like “Maya only likes Lucas because she’s becoming like Riley” but Maya didn’t want Lucas to ride the bull because she felt protective of him and worried about him (like a girlfriend) and Riley pushed him to do it because she wanted the best for him (like a friend or sister). And I used to ship Rucas when I was younger and first watched girl meets world, but now I don’t think it really worked.

The fact that they never explored a relationship between Riley and Farkle is a crime in my opinion. I genuinely feel like they had a better connection than Riley and Lucas ever did. what i've noticed is its more of a dove cameron thing than a disney thing. like with liv and maddie, maddie and diggie stay together because ryan and dove are dating. in descendants mal is in a (slightly toxic but i'll get into why i don't like it if anyone is interested) relationship with ben. dove was going to have mal and harry get together because she is dating thomas doherty, who plays harry. she added weird flirty things with harry and mal that genuinely make no sense knowing the context of the characters. they hate each other. and dove is literally the least professional actor i have ever scene. she was rude and snobby to china during the filming of descendants 2 & 3 because uma and harry are love interests in the movie. and just in general she's not a great actor, but that's not the point. the bottom line is dove isn't professional and needs to get her priorities straight.
TL;DR: dove cameron often forces characters that shouldn't be together to date because she is dating her co star.

Riley’s whole thing was that she was that happy successful girl and she seemed to enjoy that. However when Maya started getting over the difficulty of her childhood and growing up, getting better grades, she was determined to tear her down.
She seems like she doesn’t want the status quo to change because she enjoys her image and the dynamic between her and Maya and her position in it, and did not care for her growing best friend, she manipulated her with the lie that she “became her” tearing down her progress and forcing her to return back to the way things were because she has this fantasy or image in her head that she is determined to have which shows when Lucas was about to ride the bull.
She didn’t care for his well being or safety at all, all she wanted was for that stupid fantasy of hers with Lucas as the hero to remain, with no actual regard for Lucas himself, not to mention how possessive she is over him. She got so angry when she found out Maya liked him, even though she didn’t act on it, and was fairly rude to Maya about it, as if she is entitled to Lucas and has any right to who Maya can like. And I think (this is a personal opinion) that she started being manipulative and convincing Maya to change because as she matured Lucas started liking Maya more. She didn’t like the change in status quo but a bigger drive was probably Lucas since she felt super entitled to him
I wish people compared her to Corey's character considering that's who he was modeled after...like unlike Corey, she seemed to be ...afraid of her friend growing..

Also funny enough in BMW there was a little bit of a love triangle between Shawn Topanga and Corey but I don't think it dragged on for this long...or it was really like this. I wish this show was made kind of now because Disney already broke it's 4 season rule they could have had GMW go slower so we could see all the characters, especially Maya's growth like in the original.
My thoughts on ruined couples:
1) Chad was actually the more emotionally aware of the two; he was perfectly cognizant of his feelings for Sonny while she was kind of oblivious to why she circled back to him so much.
2) The thing that made Lucaya so great is that she brought out his more interesting qualities. He played into her jokes, she embraced his more aggressive tendencies. Maya is what elevated Lucas beyond just a nice guy.
3) I have never watched KC Undercover but I now ship Brett and KC so damn hard. There is so much chemistry between them it might set off a bomb.
Update: have watched the Brett episodes and found that K.C./Brett is the only thing that made that show watchable. They also completely wasted the idea of Brett being a double agent. Brett and K.C. could have repeatedly run into each other on missions, causing both of them problems because of their inability to stop each other. But no, one episode of Dark Brett and he’s gone.

Watching this from an adult perspective makes me realize just how much Disney is screwing up girls' minds and their perspectives on love and dating. Every show has an incredibly nice guy (Josh, Lucas, Beau) and either one of two things happen: they don't end up with them because of story sake (move away etc) OR the more twisted reason is they choose a jerk guy who doesn't have their best interests at heart. WOW. We wonder why young women choose guys that are crap for them. Because it is ingrained in our brains from the time we're little girls that nice guys are not who we need.
And also Jessie from Hannah Montana (sure they end up endgame but in "He Could Be The One" she chooses Jake because she loved him, then like a season or 2 later Jake cheats on her then she ends up with Jessie. That was always weird to me)

I think Maya had an identity crisis tbh. Her "checking to see if Lucas is good for Riley" honestly made no sense, it's true. But even after choosing Josh, she was still good, but she was more Maya which made sense for her not wanting to be with Lucas. I think Lucas always preferred Riley but didn't want to mess up the friendship group by choosing so he kept putting it off and made it seem like such a difficult decision. As soon as Maya chose Josh he exposed that it was always Riley. I think he wanted to protect her feelings. It makes sense but it doesn't make sense. Lucas and Maya definitely had a sibling vibe in the beginning, with the teasing and arguing. Everyone wanted it to be an enemy to lovers trope but that's just so unnecessary, he never got jealous when it came to Maya and he couldn't talk to her about vulnerable things like he could with Riley.

That was because the show ended up abruptly because Demi Lovato went to rehab. It was obvious from the last episode that they would get back together if the show had continued. Chad needed to put aside his ego, which he finally learned to do in the last episode, setting a foundation for a stronger, healthier, future relationship with Sonny.

Josh and Maddie were much more spontaneous and they were more interesting to watch. Also the scene with Maya and Lucas by the campfire was soooo good. The chemistry was exhilarating, the first time I watched it I had goosebumps. Lastly, Holden and Liv were perfect together. Like Diggy and Maddie they came together because they had similar interests, but they had real chemistry.

Their relationship is so toxic. The fact that maya can’t get good grades because that’s Riley’s thing or a nice guy because clearly compared to Riley she isn’t good enough. So she becomes the very opposite off her to not be a threat to her, to make Riley like her. And we know that because we saw her capable of getting good grades, she isn’t dumb which means that she is purposefully trying to make herself seem that way.
It is tragic that no one thought “the angsty teenager” everyone saw her as was just a persona. And that instead of pretending to be Riley she was actually beginning to let herself be more vulnerable.
But whatever that’s Riley’s thing maya is tough and she is mean to people.

I had a friend who used to try and convince me not to grow as a person because she refused to do the same, but she didn't want to be lesser than me. Because of that, I ended it. And I just hate when friendships act this way. Friends should be allowed to grow without feeling like they're becoming better than the other is whatever. Maya deserved so much more than what her character was dealt.

I think it is mainly seen when they started that storyline with the you are turning into riley thing. Like we have seen in the Halloween episode (i know we can't trust it cause thats what the writers wanted but still) Maya would have turned out that way anyway, and at the beginning of the show Riley did help maya evolve. The reasons for her being "the bad kid" are not only because of Riley, she also grew up with a single mom, felt unseen, hung out with some bad people, had abandonment issues, didn't have people at home to help her with her homework. So she put on this show of being tough and all to not have to deal with that. It's not unusual and i dont thi k you can put it all on riley cause at the beginning she did support her, later on disney just ruined it, or if we are talking characters, riley started being jealous or afraid (kinda reminds me of the kim possible movie) and so she did some messed up shit with he family behind her to push Maya's evolvement down(including everything you said), but it wasnt all her, and wasn't all of the time... Thats my opinion at least... (Also, the adults here really made the situation worse, how could they agree with Riley and turn on maya like that? Make her stay their little pet they could take credit over)

Yeah I COMEPLETELY agree but one thing I think you missed is that in a LOT of the episodes they mention Riley being a GOOD INFLUENCE on Maya and when she was, everyone hated her. One more thing, Lucaya was SOOOOO much better than Rucas, Maya and Lucas had SOOOOO much chemistry Rucas feels so forced and you can tell that Lucas and Maya actually care about each other. I completely agree with the “Riley and Lucas are brother and sister” plot it made A LOT of sense that people would think that.

Kc and Brett is the one that angers me most because SHE STILL LOVES HIM!!!! In the episode where she was living her dream scenario in season 2, she had run away with Brett, she totally would have done it!!!!! And in season 3 episode 1 or 2, i cant remember, it was shown that she's still in contact with him, so yeah, they're def endgame in my mind and will forever be. I'm grateful for that show to have started Ross Butler's acting career, truly a gem.

I was so confused when Farkle “revealed” that Riley still like Lucas. I thought that was obvious. When they agreed to be friends, I just thought they liked each other but weren’t ready to date?
