I signed a GREAT record deal with Capitol Records back in 1980. The deal was I sent them 99 cents and got to choose 10 cassettes and then I had to buy a cassette every month for a year. LOL.. only the old guys on here will get that joke.
This album introduced me to Tim when it was released in '95. As a Glimour fan, Tim's melodic phrasing and bends blew my mind completely... Saw him live at The Baked Potato where he stood at the door and greeted each guest coming for the show. As a very longtime sub to this channel, I gave up hope of ever hearing about Guitarland. I was convincing myself that it never existed - or I had the wrong musician. Today is like Christmas for me! "One Desire" is definitely on my '10 songs on a deserted island' list. To now hear him say some of his favorite soloing is in that track made me grin ear to ear... it's been almost 30 years, but within my bucket list is to shake this man's hand again. Thank you for all of the wonderful music good sir! And I could do with an entire episode talking about "One Desire" and playing through it. Please. Much love...
OK I'll try and get that done sometime, thanks for the kind words:-)
Tim you did me a kindness years ago. I was misinformed and showed up to your clinic here in Vegas right as you were ending. I was bummed and you talked a few minutes with me and then gave me your cd! Went straight home listened to it, and haven’t stopped. It’s the best gtr cd and my favorite. Thank you! Years later I did a session with drummer John Micelli (who had worked with or had hired you) He mentioned you,I mentioned your cd, and I found a kindred spirit through your music! And to top it off he told everyone in the room you made the best guitar cd ever. Mahalo again Tim!
Doesn’t surprise me… Tim seems like an absolutely genuine dude. Great story.
Great story!
Hey thanks so much... I remember the clinic, and John Micheli is a great drummer, wow I can't thank you enough for these kind words
For those who have not met Tim, I can tell you he is as he seems on his channel. I approached him at a Gearfest several years ago at Sweetwater and I asked him if he would sign a Tele (which I did not have with me). He gladly agreed and told me to hunt him down at lunchtime. I found him talking with Paul Reed Smith(!) at lunch. I stood off to the side for a while so as not to interrupt. Tim looked up after a while and saw me. He excused himself and came over and graciously signed my guitar. I'm proud to have it on there along with some other legendary players.
Wow...that exact same thing happened to me, with Andy Timmons when he was on clinic tour with Simon Phillips who is another super-nice person , Andy and I were doppelgängers, and he gave me a Laney T-shirt that I still have ;D
Kevin was such a genius. I remeber being turned on to his music and being floored, just as floored to find out you played with them too when I watched your Video about Toy Matinee. Thanks for all the wisdom you share Tim. much appreciated Bless!
Great sounds, Tim. We live vicariously through your career. Thanks!
I love hearing stories from your musical career. You are a great inspiration. Thank you.
Love this! You deserve everything you've gotten and more!!!
Wow Tim! Love that record you made, love the tones! Played along with it many times. Brings back great memories.
Tim really is in a class of his own! Thanks so much for this.
Beautiful stuff Tim. Loved the piano parts. Also loved the great lead guitar melodies. So soulful.
I'll be streaming this today during work - can't wait to hear it straight through!
Love this. As usual, your playing is beautiful. Every note you play is perfect, filled with taste and nuance with beautiful tone. Toy Matinee is so sophisticated.
Nice to hear you talk about this record-I picked up a while back and enjoy it regularly.
Very interesting video and also nice to discover an awesome album as a bonus! also do cool to hear Tim played on bodyguard soundtrack
this is great Tim ..thank you!
Thanks so much Tim for sharing, we all love you ❤
Your pretty amazing. Glad I found your channel and enjoy your content immensely. You played on a demo for a family member a long long time ago, nothing became of it. But when I found out, thought it was pretty amazing thing to experience.
Hi Tim, absolutely loved this video. Love your channel and man your tone sounds delicious. I’m going to give your record a spin man. Hope to meet you in person one day when I get to the U.S. Rock on.
Thank you for another excellent content filled video Tim. I love listening about stories from the earlier recording days. Hard to imagine that work did not recover anything. Living in Nashville I drive along recording studio row Black Bird in Berry Hill and wonder what it is like in there, can't be the same. Thanks again, love your stories Tim.
Oh wow. Tim your music is mind blowing. It is so inspiring.
Great hearing your approach to your record and insights Tim. Sounds great too. The fact that you went from your own pocket on the back end tells a lot about your passion and integrity. Thanks for sharing 👍
Guitarland, what a great album. Stays in the rotation. Thanks Tim. I enjoyed hearing more about the making.
Love the album, just listened three times in a row while working from home in Wellington, New Zealand - haven't had a great day and it brightened my mood a lot. Thanks for all that you do :)
Tim my friend. I bought this when the record came out. My fascination w “studio guys” had led me to you…so grateful to call you a friend now.
Yes and your work is so inspiring to all of us!
i'm grateful to call you a friend.... it's time for you and I to have a chat ...
@@timpierceguitar yes please! Buk+Tim video content yesterday.
I heard you mention your album a few months ago on an earlier live stream. Did some sleuthing on the interwebs and found a CD in good shape on eBay. It's been a joy to get to listen to an entire album of your guitar work and especially your compositions!
Years ago, WAY before UA-cam, I came across the CD Guitarland at a Tower Records listening station. I was immediately hooked, and have enjoyed it ever since. Several years ago I was delighted to find Tim on UA-cam and have been watching this positive musical force ever since. Thanks Tim, and let us know when you're doing a follow-up album!
This was a great peak into a more personal project that literally has your name on it. Loved seeing your passion for your own music. Thanks for sharing. Incredible story of the Body guard and of course Toy Matinee.
I love this album! Your “whisper to a scream” sound is so impressive!
I really like your general approach in making a video.
Entertaining and still packed with fun stories and musical gems.
Thanks Tim!
Listened to your album. Love it all. A stand out to me is One Desire. Thanks for letting us know about your record!
What the f8&%!!! How can I have followed you for sooo long and not known this? I feel ashamed to have missed this. Obviously off to listen to the album straight after this video.
I've been watching your channel mainly for guitar stuff on effects and gear for years. And it's the first time I listen to your original music. What a wonderful beautiful surprise!
Seeing the pride in the music that you created, shows that the music and memories last longer and have infinitely more importance than the money. I know this too, as I had a multi album deal in the late 90's. So glad I signed a crap contract!
Gotta say how much I loved this. How inspiring your playing and tone is. I'm a pro studio player in NY for over 30 years and I'm still learning...mostly from you! Thank you! Have to go stream the album now!
Beautiful tones Tim ❤
It's really cool to hear your personal stuff and the story behind it.
Tim- I did my best to play guitar land when I worked at tower records in Sacramento! Those were the days!
I love that Toy Matinee stuff. Had no idea you were on that, fantastic.
Great video Tim. Apple iTunes streams it and also love those Shufflin pieces with David Garfield and Albert Lee.
Love the inside look, Tim. Thank you! I really enjoy your channel. The effect on your guitar on One Desire reminds me of Craig Chaquico’s acoustic sound on Dreamcatcher ( and for that matter, most of his other tunes on the Once in a Blue Universe album.) Pretty awesome sound with stereo headphones on! 🙂 Thanks for all your hard work.
I have that album and still dig it! I've saved all of my old CD's from those days and BAM there it is in the collection. What an awesome talent, tone, expression and come to find out years later - an awesome dude :)
Those double stops, Tim… that’s pure magic! Thanks for being such an inspiration to all of us!
PS- I have a Strat looks just like the one you used in this video 😉
Man, Tim is just the best! So skilled, experienced, and humble. He is a class act.
Every time I watch a video - I learn that you sat in some set that completely blows me away - do you have a list that you might share on one of your videos (guessing it would be immersive and extensive). Love your work!
Love the fire in your playing, Tim!
YES! Finally, a video on GUITARLAND! What a great, great album! You so need to do a sequel to it, Tim!
super beautiful music! thanks!
I love your album Tim. I think it reflects your upbeat and positive character. I've been listening to it 3 or 4 times a week for a year or more. It makes me feel good about my day.
That intro tone, though.
Nice, as always, Uncle Tim.
Glad to hear stories about this record. I got it a few years ago because Shawn Tubbs posted about it. It's been my absolute favorite guitar album since!! Guitarland is a masterpiece. Your session expertise comes through in the details. Perfect balance between melody and chops.....and OMG THE TONES!!!
Loved that Toy Matinee album when it came out. Great songs, and the production still sounds great.
That Guitar sounds amazing Tim!❤
LOVE LOVE Toy Matinee and 3rd Matinee!!! Live album is awesome too.
Tim, Watching you play with your smiles is what is it all about. I can see you love what you do. Do you ever get out and just jam with friends?
Tim, I am so greatfull for you. There. The music is wonderful. As a player, I've been wrapped around the strings for over 60 years. You are a joy to watch and that is what I see as well. Today as a Duo in services of over 15 years, we played well. Sheets and charts fell off the stands and we just knew the material, looked at each other an laughed. Let nothing ever stop you. I will roll right past 70 and look 90 in the eye with the same smile as you.
Love this!!! Thank you, Tim!
You are so welcome!
Love that guitar Tim. This is the guitar you were playing in the first video I saw from you teaching "Hey Joe".
Always love to hear and learn from you, Tim! ♥️
I appreciate that!
Great solos Tim. You can almost hum it which a sign of a good melody! A fan from Australia
Enjoyed listening to your music.
Didn't know this album existed - it's absolutely beautiful Tim! Listening to I made it so now, very melodic!
one of the most musical guitar albums of all time. thanks for making it!
love your playing dude.
Guitarland sounds fantastic; wish that buying a copy would support you - the work deserves it for sure!
Long time subscriber, only subscribe to 3 or 4 channels, and yours is a must for a guitarist! I very seldom comment on YT but wanted to thank you for all the thought and effort you put into your video topics. Especially those where you discuss your thought process into creating parts with the supporting music theory and always serving the song (although all your content is great)!
Long time fan. One of my favorite albums you did was Living in Oz with RS. Would love to see some more vids related to that album and other stuff with Rick. How about the thought process and parts and solo behind Tiger by the Tail?
Thx again for sharing with all of us and may you live to be 150 and play to the end!
Your the guitar player that I strive to be. Your ability to span genres and just have the best take on everything you play. It amazes me. Keep the videos coming
Oh I am so happy Tim. I have loved this album since it came out. Thanks for finally doing and episode on this masterpiece.
Thanks so much
Congrats on the release, can't wait to hear it!
The album was released in 1995.
So good that I bought 2! Guitarland and Tales From The Bulge are my top 5 instrumental discs. Melody, composition, production, and guitar playing are AMAZING!
I was ultra delighted to find out that was you on Toy Matinee! A zero filler perfect album in every regard. Those guitar tones!
You just have to love this guy! ❤️
Reall happy, you finally did a video on your great Guitarland album, which I absolutely love! I can't believe how little units were pressed, at least that is what I believe, because it is now SO hard to get a hardcopy of this record. The few units that are being sold on Discogs are priced really high...too high for my budget:(( But I still hope to get it someday and add it to my extensive album collection of 1800 CDs and 900 vinyl records. Keep up the good work, my friend. You are one of the most tasty and skilled players in the business (and one of the nicest cats too). Love and blessings from a professional percussionist (and music nut) from Germany.
WONDERFUL stuff Tim .
I always enjoy your videos. Your chops and your attitude make them 'must watch' for me. Much respect...
I appreciate that!
Tim your mix of talk and playing is perfect, I love it!
Wow, thanks!
So beautiful Man, simply beautiful. What talent! Enjoying this video. Such a tasty solo.
The Lollar El Reyo hum buckers (low wind/Low Output) is my favorite hum buckers. Love the sound from the Lollars in your Strat
This is such a great album, so uncluttered and unrushed, one of my go to albums. Every time I pop the CD in, it's like hearing it for the first time all over again.
Tim, I bought Guitarland the day it was released! Been a big fan ever since I heard you on John Waite's "Ignition" album. Thank you for sharing all your insights, knowledge and incredible music through the years!
Tim lovely to see you smiling face, obviously made from a life well lived 😁
One of my favorites ,I heard this years ago on Pandora and stopped dead and wrote it down .Great Tim, I also found Duke Levine the same way .
You, Sir are a MONSTER! I love your album...I've listened to One Desire countless times...
"Guitarland" Wow a gem on iTunes, Blew Me Away. Beautiful songs!
A true labor of love! I bought Guitarland when it first came out. Still play it regularly to this day. Beautiful stuff Tim!
Bob Ross of Guitar!!!
happy little phrases. It’s the smiles!
Hey Tim! The Bodyguard soundtrack has a funny memory in my family. My sister was involved with Morgan Creek Films back then and they released the soundtrack for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves which had one pop song and the rest was orchestra/symphonic music. They had farmed out the melody from some of the bigger symphonic pieces to various musicians and Bryan Adams used it in Everything I Do, I Do For You. That song alone put that sound track at the top of the charts for weeks. I think it went platinum in multiple countries. The next year (maybe 1992?), the Bodyguard unseated it quite quickly and has sold tens of millions since.
One of my favorite instrumental albums.
You're the man Tim...awesomeness !!!
Last Plane Out… one of my fav songs to workout my sound setups with. I had NO idea this was you!
Thanks Tim for what you do. I have been watching your videos for quite some time. Loved the one you did with Paul Reed Smith when you starting playing the PRS Big Sky Model and Pauls mouth dropped when he heard the sound you made with it. It was beautiful and do you remember which delay pedal you were using. I also just signed up for your guitar courses. Can't wait to get started at 76. Thanks again. Joe Makin
Love your tone Tim. Pretty awesome brother.
thanks for your great videos!!!!
I've been wanting you to talk about this album for so long!!! To me, Guitarland was life changing. It's my favorite guitar instrumental album of al time!!! To me, your guitar tones and playing are up there with the all time greats!!! Please do a series on this album, both licks and tones!!!
Thanks so much for saying that I appreciate it
Thanks to you, I learned about Toy Matinee a few years ago. I bought the studio album and the live album (on cd), amazing stuff. Listened to them both quite extensively. Was hooked on Last Plane Out for weeks
That's awesome!
I had no idea you played on that, I loved that guitar work and song, well done sir
Also, you can shred but melody seems important, my thing too, the right note at the right moment. Alex Lifeson has always done that and you too
Hello Tim, I only discovered you in the past 18 months, and I love your music. Are your CD's still available? You are fantastic and I love your tutorials. Keep kickin' n pickin'!
So glad I clicked on this vid, Tim is soooo good!
Definitely going to stream your CD on Spotify Tim. Wish you (and the rest of us) were getting proper royalties from S but hey, your talent is wonderful to hear. An ask: I'd really love to know which amp/pedal you're using for _every_ show. A DI'd Katana is doing pretty well for my business despite the wall of amps I have!
Tim's attitude is his greatest asset, young players could learn a lot from his passionate never give up attitude, it's easy to get down & give up.
Tims work on Rick Springfields records was amazing and worth checking out !!!!
