      Definitely. The pine body sounds most punchy to my ears with the rosewood sounding more mellow and warm and the other one is in between. I am obsessed with owning the Lake Placid blue with rosewood neck since I discovered it online, but I'll have to keep saving and hope one is still around by the time I can afford it. Been on a 2001 Mexican HSS 'Fat Strat' for most of my playing life, but am mainly an acoustic player so that's been totally sufficient for my needs.

    When I was 5 years old my took me and his telecaster bass to the Fender plant, it was 1963. He wanted them to set his bass up which was not something they did. When they saw his bass they asked "Where did you get this?". He told them Wallachs Music City. They told him to hang on a minute then returned with an older man in glasses and coveralls. They said to the man look at this neck Leo who said wow that's a show neck how did that get out of here? Anyway several years later I began to play guitar and it dawned on me who I had met that day. It's now a cherished memory of a very nice man who told my dad he was very lucky to his bass with that neck. He also gave me a lifesaver candy. RIP Mr. Fender.

    This is a really useful and comprehensive overview of current Stratocaster options. 👍 I can certainly vouch for Fender's made-in-Japan models - I just got a Hybrid II with a reversed Tele headstock in a clearance sale, and it's fantastic quality. The headstock probably won't appeal to Strat purists - and I have to admit it almost put me off buying it - but I got used to it straight away, and the only "problem" with the guitar is that it's so hard to put it down, it's that good! 😊

    Not sure if you mentioned it but one big difference between the Vintage spec Strats and the non vintage is ones, is the additional fret. That 22nd fret on the non vintage spec Strats makes a big difference. Great video!

    Those three American Pros do sound different. Normal American Pro II ( rosewood fretboard)sounds thinner than the one with Pinewood body and the one with the Rosewood neck. These two later ones both sound similar, except the Rosewood neck sounds a bit dull/ woolen.
    This is my order of preference:
    1. CS 58.15
    2. JV Mod. 30.0
    3. American Vintage 53.30
    4. American Pro (pine body) 43.10

    I've got Strats practically falling from the ceiling! 😂 Started with a new American Standard in '91, and my most recent is a Pro II, and then practically everything in-between! I remember getting my 3rd or 4th one was my '98 Deluxe. Man! What a great Strat it remains to this day I moved the VN pickups and entire to a great 90s MIJ 50s RI Foto Flame (anyone remember those?) and put Fralin "Woodstock '69" pickups and new electronics into it.
    Another fun mod was to take advantage of the swimming pool route in my '91 and put triple p90s in it. Sounds unlike any other, but still has that Strat essence.

      I'm at my 4th strat. I bought my 1st without knowing anything. I bought my second because of the neck, I wanted a 7.25 neck, I took vintera 1st generation, I hate the Pau Ferro neck. Neck shape is important, radius and profile. I like soft V but impossible to find a stock Soft-V with rosewood. I bought cheap used Squier I keep in my car just to jam with friends in case, I'm now buying a Japanese model. My advice would be go to a store and try as many as you can to buy the right one. And it's not easy cause you only notice the good or bad points with practice. Pickups can be changed easily. I think about having a custom neck be made to my specs...

    • @matrixstar2767
      @matrixstar2767 4 місяці тому +1

      @@Blanc57 thanks for your help. Yeah, I need to try some for sure, but I'm eyeing the Player series and will not be changing the pickups. I know that these Strats have a different radius than my 2 Jackson's and my Pacifica 112. I'm surprised what you said about the Pau Ferro types, I was eyeing them earlier. Liked the one with the green headstock. This one though for me 41:10 is do die for (visually). Although, I will aim for the price range of the player series. I'm not comfortable paying more than that because this will be one of my main work horse guitars, and I might be drinking while operating it as well. I'll check those smaller neck radius to see what you're up to. Cheers!

    • @Blanc57
      @Blanc57 4 місяці тому +1

      @@matrixstar2767the electric blue o'e looks great. I just don't like the look of Pau Ferro but it's only a matter of preference. I tried the Player Series and they're good guitars, modern C is the generic Fender neck a'd it suits most. As you have several guitars, you must have an idea of your preference. Good luck on your new guitar.

    First rate consideration and demonstration of such a wide range of Strats. One missing consideration, which may be too subjective and personal to have added. On the American Pro 2, I take a Maple cap, over a Rosewood, to suit my taste. There's a slightly rounded effect to the Rosewood cap, vs. Maple to my ear. I'm in my 70's and have seen and heard lots of the range over the decades. I always choose Maple. It may not be a big enough difference to most ears, but it's there to these ones and I read others hear it as well. Justin is a nice and articulate person working the Bloor west store. Good mind, wide understanding of the "special" aspect of so many guitars. Great explanation/demonstration concise as well as focused.

    To choose between the Stratocaster's, on Fender site was questionnaire to help, and suggest which one guitar is the best for you. It was about time of corona lock down, I fulfilled that very carefully in all details, with exactly my personal preferences to choose some of vintage Strat with one piece maple neck appropriate to me - from whole Fender production. To believe or not, the result I got was exactly - Squier by Fender Classic Vibe Stratocaster Maple Neck 2TS (two tobacco sunburst), which continuously get good reviews from all sides I noticed. I ordered that guitar from a local dealer shop because there was not in stock. But when appeared, unfortunately because of corona restrictions the seller was so feared and nervous I could not even to try much the guitar (he gave me 5 minutes), then I gave up although started to like it. The neck was gorgeous, slim, gloss finished without stupid satin "fast" back (usual not only for Squier). Just a few days ago I ordered it again, but the difference between newer and older version will be about something cheaper Pine instead standard Alder body - bad, but I will see when the guitar will appear. Difference between that Classic Vibe Strat, and vintage USA genuine's is about polyurethane instead nitro finish, also the pickups including practically the same all Player (Mexican) series - I will change for sure, then will make fine guitar setup including fret's leveling, and hope for the best. After all of that, it seems only another way for me is to order from much more expensive Custom Shop department ...

    This is a great video comparing all these different forms of Fender strats. I also like how the player keeps it 'basic.' We don't need fancy riffs, but just a demo of the clean sounds with chords and lead. But I'd say for 80% of these, the differences are really about marketing more than the instrument itself. Fender has to sell the same guitars year after year, but attempt to convince consumers "this one is different"! I have a Robert Cray Mexican Strat which is a very nice guitar. But for those who are interested, I'd suggest checking out the Godin and Sire 'strat' versions for some real value. It boils down to a decent price and what feels comfortable when you play.

    What an awesome video…all things Fender explained !! I am a keyboard player who always had questions about “the differences between pickups…do they really make a difference”. I bought an American Performer Strat…and even though I am learning on it, I never really understood why it is the way it is. NOW I KNOW !! I now have a better appreciation of why Fender makes so many different types of Strats…all different. Thank you so much, Justin…GREAT JOB !!

    I enjoyed the video & took some notes believe me so thank you! Just 1 question if you even answer…if you wanted to build a guitar in the style of David Gilmour and I know his signature are now ridiculous since he no longer owns it & I don’t have 10+ grand😂 and keeping it below 2 grand which would be the best to pick? And then simply over time upgrade. I have a Vintera 60’s & many other guitars and I love the Vintera just not that it’s not maple or rosewood but love the feel and ease & want to pick wisely & I do love to play on the 7.25 radius frets over the jumbo & like the Vintage tuners etc don’t care about locking tuners etc which would be a good model to go with? Am I better to Mod shop one? I will even buy it online from you guys🤘 Just would like an honest answer. Always watching your videos & had this one saved as my go to so thank you!

    Very nice comparison.
    The only thing i don't agree is the use of locking tuners.
    They help the tuning stability a lot. You don't have the rolled up string on your tuners wich also stretches using the wiggle stick. This rolled up part doesn't go back to the same location after releasing the tremolo (Vibrato).
    I have 6 guitars with a bigsby and it's night and day on the tuning stability. And yes i have also lockers on my single coil guitars.

    I'm a Fender Japan lover - probably because my first electric was a mid-80s Standard Stratocaster with a System 1 Trem. I didn't realise just how good it was until I sold it. Mistake. It took me another 10 years to find/purchase my ideal Strats - a mid-80s Contemporary Strat with System 2 Trem and an HM Strat. Despite it's name/image, the HM Strat really is the 'Swiss Army Knife' of guitars. It can cover multiple music styles and genres with ease and does everything I need brilliantly - all that plus 24 frets! 🤘

    For a guitar that Leo Fender designed and built based on feedback he got from guitarists of the ‘50’s I’d say he hit a home run with that final production unit’s features. At almost 70 years old now that same design has been copied by just about every guitar builder the world over . Thanks for breaking down those ones you portrayed here. 😎👍

    Especially for those interested in a Strat or those who love them. I love the Strat body contours , average weight and ease of mod. Leo definitely had the Do it Yourselves type in mind here. I love single coils but prefer the humbucker for rock and 24 ¾ scale overall. All subjective and preferences. Owning one of every type of guitar made would be my preference though!😅

    There are differences for sure, they’re small, but personally, I don’t mind. Fender was recently found guilty by the EU for unfair pricing of the products. I agree with the EU judges’ conclusion. The products have developed over the years, but they certainly do not justify prices being raised by 800% since the 80’s.
    That being said, I still prefer the Strat. I own two LP’s, a Tele and a bunch of other different guitars, but the Strat is still my number one choice and the guitar I depend the most on.
