1985, I had a poster of Wham! inside my desk at school. 1986, I had a Morton Harket poster. Beautiful man with a beautiful voice. My best friend and I adored A-ha at the time, and can't say I've tired of them yet!
*TAKE ON ME* is so huge because of the _one two punch_ of an amazing song with an unbelievable hook together with a *_timeless_* music video that is absolutely brilliant!
I remember hear an acoustic version they did of "Take On Me"and it was the first time I recall understanding most of the lyrics. A lot darker song than I remember!
@@arongamman9360 I think that you must be referring to a different song, as the lyrics to Take On Me are not the least bit dark... I agree, the song is upbeat but the lyrics are rather bittersweet and wistful, particularly with the addition of the chord progression and some minor chords. But a lot of people miss it. One of the reasons why I like a-ha songs a lot- a lot of them have darker lyrics:)
"Electric Blue" by Ice House is AWESOME!! "Crazy" is another all time great from them. "The Pleasure Principle" was ALL OVER MTV in the summer of 1987. Just heard "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" today. Night Ranger sure could put out a great pop/rock tune back in the 80s. "The Sun Always Shines On TV" is probably my favorite A-Ha song. OMD "Forever Live And Die" is this light and breezy little pop song. Solid 5 picks Professor!

Thank you Professor! Spot on! Of the 5, only one of them isn't on my "Favorites" playlist. But "The Sun Always Shines on TV"! 38 years later, it is a song that I still listen to AT LEAST once a day! And I am pretty sure I contributed to many thousand of the 1.74M video views. Easily my Favorite Song of All Times. I remember the first time I heard it at 13 years old and being absolute haunted by the beauty of it. I wasn't allowed to buy music growing up, so I was at the mercy of hearing it when it played on the radio - which wasn't enough.
One of the bands featured in this video has another great song from the 80's that is another forgotten gem. I always loved the song 'Crazy' by Icehouse. You almost never hear it played now even on stations that feature 80's music. The lead singer of Icehouse has a fantastic voice and it's very much on display in this song.
I still listen to "Electric Blue" and "Crazy" by Icehouse and was fortunate to have seen Night Ranger in concert back in the 80's and absolutely loved "Sing Me Away" by them too. Such great tunes!!
I discovered OMD when they opened for Powerstation in 1985. Just recently saw them in Los Angeles last summer on tour with B-52s & Berlin. They have so many great songs.
Thank you for highlighting a-ha and The Always Shines on TV. This song (along with their song The Living Daylights and the acoustic version of Take On Me) deserve to be heard more often. And if you get a chance to see OMD live - GO. I saw them last year and they were still amazing.
Dreaming got to number 13 in the Billboard chart and should have gone higher in my view. It did not make the Top 40 in Britain despite being released three times. It appears on their Best of from 1988 and was the end of the band in its original incarnation. I wrote to Andy McCluskey in 1989 imploring the band not to split up ( as if it would make any difference but the prospect seemed a bad one at the time!). He replied to blame it on Paul and musical differences. I lost the letter in a house move when working in London in the nineties but met him in 2013 at a panel discussion in Liverpool, also featuring Bob Stanley of St Etienne ( it was his book Yeah, Yeah, Yeah about the history of pop that was being promoted). McCluskey signed the book to me and my now wife so full circle in a way. It could have been worse- Blancmange lost a letter from Benny and Bjorn of Abba praising their ( superb) version of The Day Before You Came and were very annoyed with themselves!
I love how the backing vocals in “Electric Blue” call ahead the lead vocals in the chorus rather than repeat them back. Can’t think of another song that does it this much.
Thank you for adding the Sun Always Shines on TV! I fell in love with the song before my first listen ended. The song deserves nearly as much attention as Take On Me. AND, the beginning of that music video is the conclusion to the Take on Me music video.
Thank you! OMD, A-Ha and Icehouse all time favorites among many of the artists I listen to. Own each of their greatest hits, at least those released in the early 90s. Definitely not forgotten.
Loved this list. A HA is my favourite band of all time. Even Mortan’s solo stuff is great. Also, Electric Blue is one of my favourite 80’s songs. Was cool to hear how the idea for the song came to be. Really enjoying this series. Thanks Adam.
"The Sun Always Shines On TV" is a constant play for me! "...All my powers waste away, I fear the crazed and lonely looks the mirror's sending me these days." a-ha is my favorite band, along with Depeche Mode. Morten Harket has one of the most amazing voices in history, singing or speaking. The songwriting and musicianship of Pål Waaktaar-Savoy and Magne Furuholmen is profound, fun, and amazing. A perfect trio with incredibly talented musicians playing with them. Their fabulous photographs taken by Stian Andersen. They are my inspiration for learning Norwegian for the past few years.
Don't underestimate the part that the producer plays in these things. Take on me flopped on its first release. They changed the producer and the rest is history.
@@MrMikomi a-ha did more than change the producer; they also rerecorded "Take On Me." It was a hit on its third release, as the first release of it was titled "Lesson One."
I’m learning Norwegian too but not necessarily due to A-ha lol. (Apparently Norwegian is one of the easiest languages for native English speakers and I’m really bad at languages. On the plus side, Morten Harket did some albums in Norwegian so I can use those for practice!) A-ha is one of my favorite bands too, which can be difficult as I’m American and most here think they’re a one-hit wonder🙄
OMD opened for Depeche Mode’s Music for the Masses concert in 1988 in Sacramento, my first concert and they were awesome. I played Forever Live & Die over and over after that and still have the cassette. I also remember that during OMDs set everyone was throwing shoes on the stage and the lead singer told the audience to save some shoes for Depeche Mode lol. It was also my first contact high 🤪. What a great night!
Thank you! I haven't heard that OMD song since the 80s! I didn't know who sang it back then and I had even forgotten about the song....and now, I HAVE to go listen to it! THANK YOU!
Can't recommend OMD enough , We have seen then them in Berlin and Amsterdam , if you love 80s synth then you can't go wrong , Andy's windmill dancing is worth it alone 😂
So true about his dancing. He did a dance tutorial at the show we saw them at last Fall. I kept saying oh I love this song and my husband said back I think you said that for every song they performed tonight.
OMD's first four records are incredible, as are some of the later ones. Unfortunately they're excluded from a lot of the ironic 80s nostalgia because they lacked the loud image of other synthpop bands. No make-up or silly haircuts.
Ice house great band from down under. The whole man of colors album was great, but they had many other great songs. Promises, great southern land among them. Still listen to their stuff routinley.
@@jdmoncada8205 Same! It was the B-side to a single I got (I thought it was Crazy or Electric Blue, don't have access to my 45s at the moment) and I was like... "Whoa." Blew me away.
Love the shout out for "Electric Blue". What an iconic hit of ithe 80s. "Crazy" by Icehouse is my personal favorite of theirs. And I'm with you on "The Sun Always Shines On TV" What a great tune that no one talks about anymore. "Secret" by OMD is another gem.
Man of Colours is still one of my all-time favorite albums. And Aha... I was so in love with Morten. I still love them. All the songs in this video are truly greats.
Icehouse was in constant rotation in my 83 Escort's cassette deck. Along with Night Ranger, Honeymoon Suite, Corey Hart, Glass Tiger, The Fixx, and so many others. I miss those days.
They still are. Check out the recent albums "English Electric" and "The Punishment of Luxury". "Isotype", "Dresden" and "Ghost Star" are just as good as many of the classic OMD tracks back in the day.
I didn't realize Icehouse had done well in the US. When I was reading your list I did a double take. Always nice to see one of our lot on your channel :)
I had forgotten about that "The Electric Blue" song... I really liked it. I love A-ha and I agree that Morten was probably the most handsome 80s singer (and this coming from a big Simon Le Bon fan). And his voice is breathtaking! I was lucky to see them in concert on the 80s. Love "Sun Always Shine on TV" and "Hunting High and Low"...and so many other of them!
OMD is my favorite electronic group. They are the reason why I like writing/recording electronic music. They also influenced: Vince Clarke, Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, No Doubt and Death Cab For Cutie just to name a few bands. Another little fact about "Forever Live And Die" is that OMD was inspired by the bass line from the band Hot Chocolate and that influenced the bass line in "Forever Live And Die".
Thank you, thank you, thank you Professor of Rock! You hit 3 of my favorite groups back in the 80s all the way up to the current day: Icehouse, A-ha, and OMD. I'm sort of glad they never got 'too famous' since fame/looks killed groups like Duran Duran (set of great musicians).
As an Australian, it's great to see that Icehouse (Flowers) had an impact with you. Back in the 80's the Aussie music scene was loud and proud and Icehouse was no exception. They still sound good today as they did back then. Great emotions 👍
A great band that I am forever grateful I discovered in the late eighties when The Flame topped the US chart and it garnered some airplay in the UK. From then on in I was hooked on their music and I have been listening since. I missed out on seeing them in Manchester in a rare excursion to the UK in 2010 when heavy snow made transport almost impossible. By all accounts for those who managed to get there, it was an amazing concert.
@@eightiesmusic1984 have you heard the two songs I mentioned, Tonight It's You and If You Want My Love? Probably two of the best songs that never even cracked the top 40, while being played all over MTV. They made the mistake of suing their label in 81 and lost... Badly. The main, heck probably the only, reason why MTV played, If you Want My Love, on such heavy rotation in 1982, was because they needed videos to fill as much air time as they could. Cheap Trick, back then was an established act, so MTV, went with it. Radio wasn't playing the song, the album it was on, One on One, was sinking on the charts, however, once that song was played on MTV, the album went gold. Their label was content to watch it go nowhere. I read in Rolling Stone a very long time ago that this was the first time the industry saw how powerful MTV's influence could be. Crazy, eh?
@@therealfronzilla I am familiar with both songs, which are fantastic. I have a greatest hits album from the early nineties ( I think) and all of the albums. I have the DVD of the singles on video. Unfortunately, their music did not travel well beyond America ( I know that they were big in Japan, which is often used in a pejorative sense in the UK to describe bands who are not that successful but in their case they really were huge there) and Britain was resistant to a lot of music perceived as too rock and/ or AOR, with some exceptions. There is no rhyme or reason to it, as Whitesnake, Foreigner and Van Halen all enjoyed chart success in the UK to name but three artists some of whose music is not a million miles away from Cheap Trick. Maybe it was bad luck, not being promoted enough or image, it is impossible to say why. Thanks for an interesting post.
True story, I joined a band and while I was the oldest the guitar player was a big pop 80's fan. During a break he started goofing off with Take on Me. I started singing it because, well why not? The other guys just looked on wondering who would break first, me on those high notes or Shane on those quick runs that were meant for a keyboard? When we hit the chorus they lost their minds and stopped us, the drummer jumped in and long story short it got added to the set list. Which meant I ended up singing that song aLOT...but it was alot of fun, but since then I've always enjoyed A Ha and the Sun Always Shines is a song I still play along with Hunting High and Low. Such a great Band.
Still have my blue vinyl copy of the 7" of Electric Blue and a flexi-disc remix of The Sun Always Shines on TV which came free with an issue of No. 1 magazine in 1986
These lists are fab...as someone who is in love with the 80’s but gets so sick of the same songs always played on the radio, thank you for bringing these to light. Pleasure Principle and Don’t Tell Me You Love Me are my favorites of those artists. Crazy from Ice House is my fav of theirs.
"Don't Tell Me You Love Me" sounds like a Rick Springfield/Loverboy song to me (same era - early 80's); it does get airplay on "Hair Nation" occasionally, but it should also be played on "80's on 8" and "Classic Rewind"!
OMD. Where do I start? What they did in the 80s was amazing, but their new stuff deserves love. Pandora’s Box, sailing on the Sven seas, Dresden, metro land, promise (!!!!), don’t go, one more time, so many …..
I love when you title these vids "Forgotten" and then I realize everything you talk about is in my current playlist/rotation lol. You make me feel good about myself Professor!! lol.
I'm glad you mentioned Electric Blue because it's one of my favourite 80s songs. Maybe it's lesser known in the US, but it's very well known in Australia because it's considered a classic over here. I grew up listening to it. If you like that song, there are plenty of other 80s Aussie classics that people know over here, but not so much outside Australia: Working Class Man (Jimmy Barnes), Run To Paradise (The Choirboys), Throw Your Arms Around Me and Holy Grail (Hunters and Collectors). Also, outside of Australia, John Farnham is mostly known for You're The Voice, but you should also check out Two Strong Hearts, and Burn for You is an absolute must. (PS, I know you tend to focus on songs that came out in the 80s and 90s, but Just The Thing by Paul Mac - which came out in 2001 - is one of my favourite pop songs ever. It did well in Australia when it came out, but it's criminally underrated and deserves to be a classic)
Love Icehouse. Electric Blue, Crazy, Great Southern Land, etc., etc. Electric Blue is on almost every "feel good" 80s mix tape/CD/playlist.Playlist. Even with the success that Night Ranger did have, I still think they were underrated. And Nick Blades, man Night Ranger, Damn Yankees, Revolution Saints, etc. But I agree about Brad being an underrated ax man too. A-ha's whole album was great! Even though they were "one hit wonders" in the States, they just kept soaring in Norway and all the surrounding countries and are considered legends their.
I kid you not, 3 of the 5 are in my fave groups too (4 if you include 'You Can Be Mine)! in fact, just today, I introduced 'The Sun Always Shines' to my 13 year-old daughter (who already likes a-ha) during an orthodontist visit drive - and she loved it! Never knew the John Oates / Iva Davies connection!
I’ve been on an OMD/a-ha kick during lockdown, so this was a fun coincidence :) they’re so much more than the few radio hits I’ve heard and “Forever Live and Die” always hits me right in the heart. I never made that connection between TSASoT and Beautiful Day, huh! A fiver of some of my personal forgotten/underrated faves: All the Things She Gave Me-The Waterboys (mmMMM I cant describe how much I love this song) We’re Looking for the Whales-a-ha (so much fun energy and I don’t even think it was a single) The Last Film-Kissing the Pink (an interesting sound, marching and synth) For a Friend-The Communards (Jimmy Somerville’s voice. that is all.) The Lion’s Mouth-Kajagoogoo (upbeat jam that’s way better than Too Shy but is also the only good track off Islands in my opinion)

Love these lists!! So many great songs I had forgotten. Great memories. This channel should have way over 1 million subscribers! Definitely spreading the word.
a-ha's clasic song 'The Sun Always Shines On T.V.' was given one of the best 12" extended versions of all-time by Steve Thompson in 1986. If you loved the song, but like 'Take On Me', think it gets just a little too much airplay; check out the EXTENDED VERSION, for it showcases a textbook example of turning 4 minutes of synth-pop euphoria into an 8-minute mix of sustained magic - start to finish. Some people may have difficulties with Harket's personality, but for sheer talent - and I DON'T just mean the greatest male vocalist ever recorded - a-ha were a brilliant trio who make the "language barrier" almost invisible. --- '(Forever) Live And Die' Is very high quality songwriting too. That brass MID instrumental is absolutely awesome. Well done Professor for showing great class in this video. PS: More focus on the 12" extended vinyl single please!!!
Everything in the 80s was Wounderful! I love listening to the 80s it’s on my iPhone ,iPad, my car stereo SiriusXM channel 8 80s ! I’ll never stop the Best 10 years of music history! Great job PROFESSOR! Remember we love the 80s 💕
Dude, you picked some of my favorite 80s songs on here! Great choices! These are always on my 80s rotation constantly. My favorite by A-ha is Living a Boy's Adventure Tale, beautiful vocals! Great video
Can't agree on the J. Jackson song (forgettable) or Night Ranger (harmless 80s rock but not "must hear"), but you're right on target with Icehouse, a-ha and especially the OMD track. Back in the day my friends and I were mostly 60-80s rock with new wave/synth only slipping in through undeniable crossover (e.g. The Cars, The Fixx), but "(Forever) Live And Die" was one of those recordings I wanted to hear in the car where "my friends couldn't see me." :) A feeling like walking on air for that one as you said. A rolling arrangement and performance that's not blunt and relentless like the Doobie's "Long Train Runnin'" but rather light yet compelling.
I love Pleasure Principal and that video with Janet’s dancing was just everything! I remember being about 12 and I “tried” to learn all the choreography to that video, I then had to showcase this for my mom. I put on the video and “attempted” to do the choreography side by side...😂😂. Another great song from control was ‘Funny How Time Flies’ (When You’re Having Fun) such a beautiful and soothing song! I think a forgotten gem that should be covered in the future is ‘Heaven Help Me’ by Deon Estus - another beauty!
• "Crazy" is another forgotten single by Icehouse, from the same album Man Of Colours. The song builds and builds, with a soaring vocal and lush keyboard. Simply put...the song rocks. • "The Pleasure Principle" would have (EASILY) gone Top 5 had the 7" single featured the same Shep Pettibone mix/edit used in the music video. I'll never understand why the album version was used. A different edit of the Shep Pettibone mix was actually used on the cassette single, but the cassette single was just taking off at the time, and the 7" single was still preferred. • "The Sun Always Shines On T.V." was a missed opportunity here in the U.S. This single could have confirmed a-ha wasn't just a fluke, and led way to more hits. It's definitely a euphoric and dreamy song. The video (the intro is a continuation of "Take On Me") brilliantly focused on the band performing in a church, with only mannequins as the audience members, looking as if they're frozen in awe. I was very upset this single failed to repeat the success of "Take On Me"...I still am, actually.
OMD is one of my favorite 80's bands. They are right up there with Depeche Mode. I'd love for you to make a video about Information Society and Real Life. I feel like everyone knows Insoc's "Whats on Your Mind" song and everyone is familiar with Real Life's "Send Me an Angel", but I never hear their other amazing songs talked about like "Walking Away" and "Catch Me I'm Falling".
"Walking Away" was actually a top-ten hit here in the States; it's amazing how overshadowed it gets by "What's on Your Mind" (although I have heard it on the radio a handful of times in recent years...).
Love these Icehouse, OMD and A-ha songs! Never liked Janet and never heard of Night Ranger before (where i live most foreign rock that charted was European, not so many American bands, so when i see these videos i wonder who these people are LOL)
Love Icehouse & 'Electric Blue'. Their ballad 'Crazy' was one of the top ballads of the 80s imo. About 7 years ago I was working for a telecom company in Sydney whose sister company was Sony & we had Ira & the reformed band play at our company campus...so I spent lunch listening to Icehouse live! They still sounded brilliant! Oh and Night Ranger! Love those guys....Sing Me Away is my favorite. A-ha's first 3 albums were brilliant. Sheesh....OMD? Sigh...brilliant. Great episode!
A-Ha was hugely underappreciated in the states, such a shame. Fantastic band and their b sides were usually better than what hit here in the states, The Sun Always Shines On TV is a terrific example of that. OMD was also great, saw them and Depeche Mode in Philly, a truly mind blowingly good show.
The Sun always shines on TV is such a good tune. I have played that for every millennial that wants to hear. Great tune. Glad to know others know about it.
Also A-ha “Hunting High And Low” entire album is great “Living A Boys Adventure Tale” **** “Hear I Stand And Face The Rain”(excellent tune) Later with “ Soft Rains of April “ Night Ranger still rockin saw them last year!!!!!! Great hearing them singing “High Enough” ( Damn Yankees) Ice House awesome never knew about the connection to John Oats.. Song “Man of Colors” excellent And of course “Crazy” great intro of synthesizer and guitar riff at the beginning of the song.... BANDS TO THINK ABOUT::::: Wang Chung - To Live And Die In LA Awesome song Naked Eyes - “Promises “ Cutting Crew - “ I’ve Been In Love Before”
Upvote for Wang Chung. Points on the Curve is one of my favourite 80s albums. Have they had any love on this channel yet? Hunting High and Low is a near perfect pop album with hardly any weak points. I don't think Aha got the credit they truly deserved for that album. Such a strong debut record. Hard to think they were more or less a prog rock outfit beforehand!
Loving your videos! Flagging Aha and OMD is great. Just a small note that the three members of A-ha were credited with writing take on me, Paul is credited with the sun always shines on TV. 😁
"Electric blue" hasn't been forgotten we still play that song on the radio here in Australia. I still love Hall and Oats. I can't listen to "take on me" it's been played to death.
Thank you Professor! Love the backstory on the song, Electric Blue. As for Aha, my favorite from them remains, Hunting High and Low. Janet Jackson's song, Escapade is fantastic. Love I Never Know Why from OMD, but not familiar with much from Night Ranger.

I still listen to "Electric Blue" and "Crazy" by Icehouse and was fortunate to have seen Night Ranger in concert back in the 80's and absolutely loved "Sing Me Away" by them too. Such great tunes!!
Can't wait until tours begin again. 2020 breaks my 3 year streak of seeing Night Ranger.
Love the song "Crazy" by Icehouse as well. Their lead singer really had a fantastic voice.
The Midnight Mix of “Crazy” is amazing. I hope the Professor can interview Iva Davies and share with us someday!
OMD is one of my favorite bands and to this day any time i can go see them live i do. They still sound wonderful !
Really glad you included The Sun Always Shines On TV. Fantastic track!
Love Electric Blue by Icehouse. How this band wasn't bigger in the US i will never understand
I loved The Sun Always Shines on TV back in the 80's and still do! Thanks for putting that great song back in my mind!
“Forever Live and Die” is like a shot of dopamine to the brain. What a fantastic selection. I always liked “So In Love” as well..
Agreed, I personally like So In Love a little more and its earworm drum and synth intro.
Scandal “Warrior”, Animotion “Obsession”, Kenny Loggins “I’m free”...
A Night Ranger song I always enjoyed.....
Four in the morning.
"The Sun Always Shines On TV" is a constant play for me!
"...All my powers waste away, I fear the crazed and lonely looks the mirror's sending me these days."
a-ha is my favorite band, along with Depeche Mode.
Sun always shines was a top 30 song!
“The sun always shines on TV “ is some their best work.
Great video. You're right we may not always appreciate these great songs until we get older.
OMD are brilliant, the ‘ultimate live act’
Amazing! From Icehouse, I love the song Crazy. Electric blue IS pure 80’s and I love it! Thank you for sharing this memory road .🤟🏻🤟🏻
Ice house great band from down under. The whole man of colors album was great, but they had many other great songs. Promises, great southern land among them. Still listen to their stuff routinley.
No Promises made me an Icehouse fan.
@@jdmoncada8205 great song, even though I left off No, in No Promises!!
Same, Sidewalk is my favorite album by them.
@@muzza1967 will have to look into it.
@@jdmoncada8205 Same! It was the B-side to a single I got (I thought it was Crazy or Electric Blue, don't have access to my 45s at the moment) and I was like... "Whoa." Blew me away.
This Aussie is very happy to see Icehouse get a mention. Love, love LOVE this band! So many fabulous songs.
Agreed , CRAZY is my ultimate 80’s hit
Man of Colours is still one of my all-time favorite albums. And Aha... I was so in love with Morten. I still love them. All the songs in this video are truly greats.
I posted Electric Blue the other day and not one like. 2020 really sucks.
Icehouse was in constant rotation in my 83 Escort's cassette deck. Along with Night Ranger, Honeymoon Suite, Corey Hart, Glass Tiger, The Fixx, and so many others. I miss those days.
I always post great songs of the 70s and 80s on Twitter and not one like either. They only praise k-pop and the likes of Cardi B. 2020 rly rly sucks.
Christopher Smith the killers just did an electric blue cover and it is fab!
Deanna Hope just pulled it up it’s very good!!!
Good Night Mr. Matthews and Kingdom. The U.S. missed out.
Cant wait for the OMD video! They were such a great band!
They still are. Check out the recent albums "English Electric" and "The Punishment of Luxury". "Isotype", "Dresden" and "Ghost Star" are just as good as many of the classic OMD tracks back in the day.
@@tortieville1984 This. OMD are knocking it out of the park with their new stuff.
I didn't realize Icehouse had done well in the US. When I was reading your list I did a double take.
Always nice to see one of our lot on your channel :)
Electric Blue has been in my rotation all summer long this year... Great pop tune!
This guy’s videos are solid. Appreciate his reverence for the 80s.
Scritti Politti-Perfect Way. If you can get an interview with Green, you will have struck gold!
Always great content professor
Thank you!
I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding a-ha and OMD. So much more than their one super famous songs. Love both of them.
As an Australian, it's great to see that Icehouse (Flowers) had an impact with you. Back in the 80's the Aussie music scene was loud and proud and Icehouse was no exception. They still sound good today as they did back then. Great emotions 👍
Tonight it's you and If You Want My Love
By Cheap Trick, two brilliant songs, that were all over MTV and never cracked the top 40.
My favorite song from cheap trick
"Change" by John Waite was 1 of my favorites. I don't think it got enough recognition
OMD, Icehouse and A-ha won't ever be forgotten for me
I love when you title these vids "Forgotten" and then I realize everything you talk about is in my current playlist/rotation lol. You make me feel good about myself Professor!! lol.
I seriously love this channel. Discovering this has made me happy in dark times.
OMD are still killing it live. So many great tracks by them and the albums are mega
Nailed it with A-Ha!
Great choice by putting OMD!!!
I’ve been on an OMD/a-ha kick during lockdown, so this was a fun coincidence :) they’re so much more than the few radio hits I’ve heard and “Forever Live and Die” always hits me right in the heart. I never made that connection between TSASoT and Beautiful Day, huh!
A fiver of some of my personal forgotten/underrated faves:
All the Things She Gave Me-The Waterboys (mmMMM I cant describe how much I love this song)
We’re Looking for the Whales-a-ha (so much fun energy and I don’t even think it was a single)
The Last Film-Kissing the Pink (an interesting sound, marching and synth)
For a Friend-The Communards (Jimmy Somerville’s voice. that is all.)
The Lion’s Mouth-Kajagoogoo (upbeat jam that’s way better than Too Shy but is also the only good track off Islands in my opinion)
Scoundrel days is just an amazing album and we are looking for the whales is just a beautiful song i really enjoy it every time and it makes me happy
Forever Live and Die... Always in my playlist.
I am just discovering your channel, thanks for paying tribute to great 80’s music !!
I don’t know which is your age, checking your videos from 4 years ago, just speak about main ones pop artist, let’s wait a while, probably you will find great gems even they were just one hit wonders, but they were great in the 80’s, They are missed....i am 51 and really lived great 80’s music, congratulations to have had the chance to interview this great artists!

a-ha is such a great band. Always surprised they were never bigger here in America. Their entire discography is magnificent. Manhattan Skyline from their second album is such a killer track.
OMD.....another incredible band. You have great taste, good sir.
A-ha and OMD.....Orgasmically brilliant.
Love these lists!! So many great songs I had forgotten. Great memories. This channel should have way over 1 million subscribers! Definitely spreading the word.
a-ha's clasic song
'The Sun Always Shines On T.V.'
was given one of the best 12" extended versions
of all-time
by Steve Thompson in 1986.
If you loved the song,
but like 'Take On Me', think it gets just a little too much airplay;
check out the EXTENDED VERSION,
for it showcases a textbook example
of turning 4 minutes of synth-pop euphoria
into an 8-minute mix of sustained magic -
start to finish.
Some people may have difficulties with Harket's personality,
but for sheer talent -
and I DON'T just mean the greatest male vocalist ever recorded - a-ha were a brilliant trio
who make the "language barrier" almost invisible.
---
'(Forever) Live And Die'
Is very high quality songwriting too.
That brass MID instrumental is absolutely awesome.
Well done Professor
for showing great class in this video.
Morten Harket was allllll over my bedroom walls. I think I kept the teen magazines in business looking for pictures of him to put on my wall haha!
I agree with you on the choices especially with A-Ha and OMD!!!!
Dude, you picked some of my favorite 80s songs on here! Great choices! These are always on my 80s rotation constantly. My favorite by A-ha is Living a Boy's Adventure Tale, beautiful vocals! Great video
Such a beautiful song, gives me chills every time i hear it, Morten vocals are so powerful
@@jessicalizarraga9160 & @Liz Se:
Great song, album and team.
YEAHH u picked some great tracks POR!! SUN ALWAYS SHINES is definitely my fave a-ha single🙌
So in Love by OMD deserves a listen by everyone.
I agree. That song and video showcased Janet's maximum talents and artistry more than any other. I'm sure your dance was fun to watch too.
@@GreySox 😊I kind of wish I had recorded it so I could have a good laugh now 😊😂
• "Crazy" is another forgotten single by Icehouse, from the same album Man Of Colours.
Hello, gotta tell ya, you are introducing me to a lot of music I didn't listen to in the 80's. Like OMD. Thanks for the education Professor.
OMD...So In Love...what a song...
Sun Always Shines on TV is a great one. Also, Icehouse's "Crazy" should have been higher on the charts as well.
EVERY video from the Professor is so spot on! Thx you for introducing great TIMELESS tunes for the current generation and generations to come😙😙😙😙
A-Ha was hugely underappreciated in the states, such a shame. Fantastic band and their b sides were usually better than what hit here in the states, The Sun Always Shines On TV is a terrific example of that.
OMD was also great, saw them and Depeche Mode in Philly, a truly mind blowingly good show.
Another great list. Can't wait for the OMD fiver.
A-ha were massive over here in Ireland and the UK
Still very popular as they sold out the 3arena in Dublin last October.😀
You deserve a million subscribers for reminding us of these classics.
10x yes for The Sun Always Shines... Their debut album has a lot of good songs on it
As an album Scoundrel Days is even better.

Great hearing them singing “High Enough” ( Damn Yankees)
Ice House awesome never knew about the connection to John Oats..
Song “Man of Colors” excellent

BANDS TO THINK ABOUT:::::
Wang Chung - To Live And Die In LA
Awesome song
Naked Eyes - “Promises “
Cutting Crew - “ I’ve Been In Love Before”
Upvote for Wang Chung. Points on the Curve is one of my favourite 80s albums. Have they had any love on this channel yet? Hunting High and Low is a near perfect pop album with hardly any weak points. I don't think Aha got the credit they truly deserved for that album. Such a strong debut record. Hard to think they were more or less a prog rock outfit beforehand!
just saying "The Soft Rains of April" was off Scoundrel Days not Hunting High and Low
mozzer correct that’s why it was prefaced with “later” meaning after Hunting High and Low..
@@timseasybennett3359 ah ok
