    That was a great video Rob. Wedi should use that as their proper installation video. Much more helpful to see a real contractor install on a real site than a rep installing in a studio. Also Jason did an excellent job teaching his knowledge and tips are truly impressive.

    Pro tip for mixing thin sets and muds...
    Start the drill in reverse so it spins all the liquidy shit downwards instead of up and over the bucket. Once it gets thicker, spin forward.

    Great video. It's ALLLLLL about attention to detail and I see you guys have it. I can't say enough about paying attention to detail and not rushing and cutting corners.

    “Don’t cheap out here, use a sharp blade” I need a shirt that says that. My fatal flaw is not changing blades often enough!

    I use a 1/2” square notch trowel with a rubber mallet and level my pan. If the subfloor is really out of whack I self level prior to setting the pan. Leveling the pan after installing is more work since the pan is already pitched. This method works really well for me since it makes my starter row of tile really easy from the bottom up.

    Pro tip: I forgot to include this in my previous comment. The easiest way to cut the groove around the perimeter after trimming a pan is to use a router. The guy underneath a bit is perfect for cutting out that slot and I think it takes me about a minute to cut my grass around the outside. I have a dedicated router for this because the depth is set perfectly and I never have to adjust it. The router bit will last forever on that soft material. I’m a little surprised that Wedi doesn’t market the method by offering the appropriate router bid and instructions.

      Correction. The guide under the router bit. Not the “guy” under the bit.

    • @bmack2938
      @bmack2938 3 роки тому

      Another correction. Groove not grass. I got to stop typing replies without my glasses.

    Pans are pre sloped so they really need to be on a dead level floor. That way all corners have proper slope to drain and minimize possible water pooling in areas. A dead level pan makes installing the board so faster and easier along with the tile since everything is within 1/16". I always pour self leveler before I do a pan, trust me it'll make the job that much better and go that much faster. Leveler also dries in a few hours and once I lay the pan I stay off it until next day. I never did understand how you can work on thinset while its trying to dry. Not worth the risk for me personally, my .02 cents.
