I think they're great together because they both performed since childhood. Dancers who performed as children have a certain ease that no amount of technique can duplicate. Cyd Charisse and Fred for example, Cyd was technically perfect but even her abandon was calculated. At least Ginger would let herself be totally led by Fred and he brought out the best in her. With Rita Fred just let go and danced. A slice of heaven.
Best dancers EVER!! LOVE TAP anywhere!! Rita Hayworth was the best dancer of her time, & paired with Fred Astaire, they were the best team of the ages!!! Rita was incredible, & Fred, well, Fred Astaire was the best ever!!!!
They say it was embarrassing for her because he was her father's age. Astaire and Cansino (dad) were friends and she was a bit too young to play romantic roles with Fred. Well, that's the way the story goes.
Старые фильмы и Американские и СССР, и Италии, и Франции и других стран, они какие-то разные, но с добром и уютном смотришь,и хотя я тогда не жила ещё,есть по этой жизни,ностальгия
Really. Rita Hayworth was the best dancer Astaire have ever had. I dont know why her dancings are not mention as one of her greater assets. Of course she is lovely to look at..but she can act and dance amazingly well.
My goodness, Rita Hayworth was absolutely gorgeous. She was the best dance partner of Fred Astaire ever, and likewise Gene Kelly. It is a cultural catastrophe of the first order that the Hollywood studio system served to leave us with only Cover Girl as an indicator of the sublimity of the Kelly-Hayworth combination.
Rita passed away one month before Fred did; I hope she was there at the Heavenly Gates to meet him and say "Dance with me, Fred", and have him reply, "Why, of course, I would love to."
Yes! Although this song is great, as a stand alone music and dance number I actually prefer watching the recreated version with "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher." Those smiling faces that are evidence that they love to dance, plus their obvious great chemistry, totally fit the lyrics and joyfulness of Jackie Wilson's Top Ten pop and Number One R&B hit from 1967.
There she was, so bright and sparkly - with everything still ahead: stardom....some great pictures, Orson Welles, Aly Khan, her fame, etc..and finally Alzheimer's. But here it all stands still and she shines, follows Fred step for step...
The movie came out as it says in 1942. One can imagine copies immediately being sent to the front for our troops, then in North Africa. When our GIs caught their first glimpse of Rita Hayworth dancing this number they at once knew what they were fighting for.
In this variety number, Rita really shows her versatility, a difficult tap number requiring perfect synchrony and energy. She keeps up nicely with Fred.......they sure look like they are having fun doing it. She had it all plus her beauty besides. Great video!
Here was Mikhail Baryshnikov on Fred Astaire: "I have been invited to say something about how dancers feel about Fred Astaire," Baryshnikov said. "It's no secret. We hate him. "He gives us complexes, because he's too perfect. His perfection is an absurdity that's hard to face." Classical dancers could deal with legendary rivals from the past, such as Nijinsky, because their accomplishments were known from books and from photographs that don't move, Baryshnikov said. With Astaire it was another story: "The problem with Astaire is that he's everywhere -- moving. You know, you give your own performance and receive applause and you think maybe, just maybe, it was successful, and you go home ... and turn on the television to relax and there he is. Making you feel nervous all over again." "You remember the remark by Ilie Nastase about Bjorn Borg: 'We are playing tennis, he is playing something else.' It's the same with Fred Astaire -- we are dancing, but he is doing something else." "We are, of course, very lucky. His gift, captured in the movies, is one we can all share forever. He was, he is, and he always will be, our never-ending legend."
Greater dance even better than the one done by Fred and Elanor Powell to"Begin the Bequine", in an earlier film. They had rhythm, style, grace and great talent.
Yes, you're right. Powell was a wonderful tap dancer and could do amazing spins, but she didn't dance in hold with Fred. They competed. Reta mirrors Fred better as her upper body movement is more expressive than Powell, much closer to Fred's whole body movement. Superb. Both of them.
Such beauty and grace, way back in the 60's 70's they used to show these great films on TV all the time, sadly now they mostly only show repeats of crap. Wasn't Rita Hayworth so beautiful and pure Lady.
Contemplation, respect. C’ est magnifique, magique. 😊🌹❤Quel bonheur ❤️🌹✌🏻
I don't think Hollywood has ever fully utilized the super talented women that came through their system. The writers were 99% men, the directors were 99% men, and so they just couldn't handle incandescent women. They could have them as temptress/siren, but they didn't and still don't have a lot of imagination of what to do. At least we had Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Tomb Raider, and Salt for Angelina, but Angelina can't sing or dance. We are in a degraded era, where middling talent like Ryan Gosling etc. are given a musical like La La Land.
Rita Hayworth such a beautiful woman, another very talented woman abused and used by the people around her. Just watching her dance is awesome. I have seen this many times, but each time U see it, she us terrific, always under rated and pushed into what she really wasn't.

Not only did the best music come from that generation, but also the best dancers
Rita was a very elegant, precise, graceful dancer. She matched Fred in all of the dance moves. They really were amazing together.
Ahh Rita was something else, so talented

Eleanor Powell was.

She is definitely Astaire’s twin on the dance floor!
@@angiedimsdale9016 Absolutely. Astaire choose her as his best dance partner.
I think it will always be Ginger, the blonde that could dance backwards in heels!❤🎉
@@allisonyoung4285 not according to Astaire.
She's awfully good, that's a fact. But she can't displace Eleanor Powell in Begin the Beguine.
Both have mythical status 👌
Oh my god, he could dance!
I could literally watch this over and over again
I do !
Adore Rita Hayworth!!!💛
Fred Astaire’s favorite dance partner. They are/were magical together. 😊
Hello 👋 Rhubarb
How are you doing today?
She is the absolute best, always under rated for her talent
they seem to be having such a good time with each other
He is a wonder but I can not take my eyes of her. Not only for the obvious reasons (beauty, talent, charisma). She was really unique.
Rita is an inmortal goddess
Is she ever, so pretty and ultra talented !
Rita passed away one month before Fred did; I hope she was there at the Heavenly Gates to meet him and say "Dance with me, Fred", and have him reply, "Why, of course, I would love to."
This made me teary
I'm sure there was a line of ladies waiting to dance with him when he got up there!
And Phyllis would be sitting in the corner with her knitting, saying 'Not for too long or too close, Fwed.'
Oh.. that’s just lovely. And I hope so.😊
Сейчас такое не снимают. Так что наслаждаемся давно минувшим фильмами
that was magical look up "Your love keeps lifting me higher" with the same dance scene. Amazing

Here are a lot of different nation comments! What a song!
The best dance team for their time together in the 1940’s. ❤🎉
Their energy is contagious. Wow!!!
Their timing is so good it sounds like there is only one person dancing!
ШЕДЕВР!!!!
Rita is absolutely terrific.
Top class dancers ❤
The epitome of class personified. Bring back the good ole days!!!
There she was, so bright and sparkly - with everything still ahead: stardom....some great pictures, Orson Welles, Aly Khan, her fame, etc..and finally Alzheimer's. But here it all stands still and she shines, follows Fred step for step...
That was some DANCING! My word.
The movie came out as it says in 1942. One can imagine copies immediately being sent to the front for our troops, then in North Africa. When our GIs caught their first glimpse of Rita Hayworth dancing this number they at once knew what they were fighting for.
É tão satisfatório assistir eles dançando.
Eu volto todos os dias pra ver eles dançando ❤️
She was gorgeous, talented, and so charming!🌹

Thank you for posting this.
Baryshnikov was pandering to Americans. He himself is a legend!

Um dos meus filmes prediletos! Que lindo casal eles formavam!
Both such great dancers..
She makes it look so easy.
The classic !!

I said years ago that the Singing In The Rain dance scene with Gene Kelly would never be beaten.... I've just been proved WRONG.....
I love how they spontaneously start dancing.
RitA. Had it.... absolutely fantastic
I have seen this several times but live to watch again
How wonderfully done!
Beautiful Indeed. SS.

Everybody go watch this, very very enjoyable!!
Fred Astaire’s favorite partner. Mainly bc she was a fast learner. Not my fave pairing, but she held her own for sure.
Imo its because they both steal the show so they dont fit that well together
The girl had some fine legs for dancing.
Rita is pride aka Cindy sue Corcoran. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Such a fat friendly number. Health at any size, Baby!
Such a delightful favorite of mine, but always was annoyed by unnecessary, constant cutaways to the orchestra (as much as I love the wonderful Cugat)
They cut away at 4:01 because Rita fell
