Grandaddy is the stuff of legends that burst onto the Indie scene at the forefront which solidified them as inspiration for many bands to follow. True indie fans know that Jason Lytle is a Merlin wizard of music. The man, the myth, the legend.
This is one of the greatest bands and Jason has to be one of the most gifted song writers that I know... exposing this music to my kids will be a way to ensure that real music is passed along to the next generation. I am so grateful to love this band! They have made such an impact on my life and I was lucky enough to see them live
Same Noah. My kids love Grandaddy and I've took them all to see them at one time or another. I've seen Jason / Grandaddy more than any other band in my life. I've had the wonderful privilege of meeting him and the band a few times. They continue to be my favourite band, no contest. He's truly one of the great songwriters of our time. Sublime.
As I listened to "Jed's Other Poem" once more, a striking thought crossed my mind: God is a lonely idea on Mars. The hauntingly beautiful lyrics and melodies of the song already evoke a sense of isolation and otherworldliness, so it's not difficult to imagine how the concept of a higher power may feel even more distant and disconnected in a barren, alien planet like Mars. I think we can find a beautiful ground wherever we are. Even in the midst of desolation and loneliness, there is always room for creativity and hope. Perhaps the idea of a lonely God on Mars can be seen as a metaphor for our own struggles to find meaning and connection in an often-hostile world. And yet, even in the face of such challenges, we can find solace and inspiration in the power of art and human creativity. Thank you for making me think.
Beautiful take on this song. Looking forward to the rest. This album has been a part of my life since it came out and I don’t think there’s been a week where I haven’t listened to at least one song from it in this whole time. It has been a feature on travels, commutes, sitting at home reflecting, and introducing something amazing and devastating to people that have never heard it. It has so many feelings associated with it because it’s been with me through two decades of change. This album is a sanctuary.
Was diving into this old internet-video i remembered from pre-youtube, and only now realize there's a recent version of the whole thing. It's an odd angle, and it works for me. And I had just started listening to the original album for the first time minutes ago. Sometimes it is nice.
Grandaddy will forever be in my rotation. Jason, your music spoke to me like none other back when I first heard it. Still love it. The saga of Jed makes for a fantastic continuing story.
This is one of those songs that ends up being played on repeat over and over again until the goosebumps become so unbearable you want to cry in the very best of ways .
Love the new piano version of the cd been exposing my 5y to new music to her old loves too me she layed in my arms this morning as I sang most all of this album too her thank you for these songs and memories I can pass on ❤
"Ghost of My Old Dog" [sniff] And I haven't had a dog since I was a toddler. It's Jason's gift for conveying these feelings that makes these songs so powerful.
The album continues to move, motivate and save me time after time and this downright surprise feels like the vaccine to life I've always been waiting for.
This song breaks my heart. Its like dying. It sounds like meeting whatever made me. I dont want it to stop but its all so painful to bear. thanks. Me and my brothers thank you. I found Jasons fathers youtube channel and its so wholesome seeing how life just goes on. Its beautiful.
I ended up here. It's been years since I've known your music. Although you are not well known here in Korea, I was shocked to hear your song 'Fare Thee Not Well Mutiner'. I've been listening to your music ever since. Well, Blavla... anyway, I wanted to say thank you once. From a Korean fan who loves your music.
This is great, beautiful and makes me long for a time long passed, but also look forward to (re-)listening to the original album and the piano versions when they're out. Great stuff and thanks to Jason and Grandaddy!
favorite grandaddy music video - mysterious and much much more sophisticated than jj abrahms, light flare wise... love how the stripped down production brings to the fore the broken heart of the lyrics -- well done!
My poem Titled Daddy Daddy Daddy Daddy would you please Untie the chain around my knees Daddy daddy would you please Give me food if you are in the mood Daddy Daddy would you please Not let the dogs on me Last time you did they almost killed me you see
i had no idea what this record was doing to me in the moment when it came out, now I can't imagine life without it
Brings me back. This album is one of my top 5
Name some of the others, please!
it's in my top 3 :)
"I try to sing it funny like Beck, but it's bringing me down." - Man what a line.
You're a beautiful human, Jason. Thank you for this.

Well, any music can be "real" music as long as effort is put into it.
Brought a tear to my eye. So beautiful. This album hit me at a very formative point of my life and man did this take hit me like a ton of bricks.
I jumped on this right when I got the email... one of the best bands and one of the best albums. Can't wait

Thank you for making me think.
The piano versions of these songs are so appropriate for these sad and trying times. I sincerely hope America can hold on a little longer.
I never knew about this edition of the record. It makes This and Jed the Humanoid even more morose, and yet just as beautiful.
Used to listen to this at 1am senior year, driving home from my first job...Time flies
these guys are severely underrated
I had recently discovered this band via the rhythm game osu, grandaddy is now one of my favourite bands. Absolutely magnificent

I hope you can do more shows soon.

Thank you Jason, from Freeway to today, just thank you. Glenn.
🧡
I'm glad he's playing the songs on a wooden piano instead of a fiberglass one.
Been listening to this album for 20 years. Beautiful, tragic, and wondrous from start to finish.
This is one of those songs that ends up being played on repeat over and over again until the goosebumps become so unbearable you want to cry in the very best of ways
.
Just amazing. So glad i found this band. I've been a fan for only a few months now.. but I'm a super fan
Love the new piano version of the cd been exposing my 5y to new music to her old loves too me she layed in my arms this morning as I sang most all of this album too her thank you for these songs and memories I can pass on ❤
Almost no bands or songs can bring a tear to my eye, but this is one.
"You're too gone" from 2009 is definitely another.
"Ghost of My Old Dog" [sniff] And I haven't had a dog since I was a toddler. It's Jason's gift for conveying these feelings that makes these songs so powerful.
So many performers lose the essence of what made a song great the first time it was recorded - but not here. Thanks Jason
‘I try to sing it funny like Beck’, always loved that subtle shout out
OMG 🤯 I was not ready to see this in my subscriptions tab. this is so beautiful, this album is such a masterpiece. I absolutely love it ♥️
Oh how much this album hits me right in the heart. I used to have this album on repeat in my headphones in my painting studio in college.
Thank you for all the music and moments it played and plays a part of. Forever grateful
I love this so much
God, I haven't heard this in so long. What a superb album. Argh.
Sublime. Bexhill tonight, can’t wait.
Such a beautiful song. One of my all-time favorite albums. Thank you Jason for revisiting.
This record might be the best of all time. Its been a constant source for me of joy, serenity and understanding. Look forward to piano version

Oh Jason!....you melt my heart always....!❤
The album continues to move, motivate and save me time after time and this downright surprise feels like the vaccine to life I've always been waiting for.

Love this new version. The inner harmonies are all laid out bare, and it's soul-ripping.

Wow. Stunningly beautiful take on an already amazing song. Can't wait to hear the rest. Love u grandaddy.
You can see the beauty, it's here
Amazing song, I will never get tired of this masterpiece. Thanks for never selling out Jason Lytle and Grandaddy!!
Sing this from the mountain tops like it were the gospel! I wish more people knew about Grandaddy, they are missing out.
You're a beautiful soul Jason
This version is beautiful.
Sooo amazing
This song is so good that I just thumbed up my own post and posted this post.
Wow, just incredible.
Love both of em
Right in the feels Jason ... right in the feels
All your albums have been a great comfort for the last 15 years & all through the pandemic. Much love to you!
Out of nowhere Grandaddy releases a piano version of our favorite song from them, the moment we needed it most. Are they watching us?

nice
This is REALLY REALLY similar to a famous Coldplay's song, The Scientist, it's identical!
I'm trying to figure out how these 3 heartless weirdos who gave this a thumbs down exist. They're bota, right? Like an evil Jed crew?
i love this new version - but the original had some level of heartbreak i don't feel here..must be nostalgia
I called you a liar...
Who's Beck?
But not the motels.
My poem
Titled Daddy Daddy
Daddy Daddy would you please

ARGHHH ...can't overcome the out of (traditional) tune bits .... too jarring for me ...saves me lots of money though
