I get it with the first 3 albums! Except I absolutely LOVE Secret Treaties. The production on them isn’t very good and overall I just don’t feel like their sound was very flushed out yet.Good stuff though!
@@DickTwatkins Totally agree. Secret Treaties is amazing. But it was definitely the Martin Birch that hooked me, and after I fell in love with those, the rest of the catalog started to fall into place.
Great video. You had me laughing as you ripped on Imaginos (which I actually like). I agree with you about "Redeemed" on the debut. It reminds me of "Sun Arise" off of Coop's Love It To Death, in that both songs are goofy kinda folky endings to otherwise great albums. I mostly agree with you about their best songs. "Perfect Water," "Shadow of California," "The Old Gods Return," "I Love The Night," and "Don't Turn Your Back" are all amazing. My all-time fav BOC song is "The Vigil." Last but not least, huge congrats on your engagement. :)
Amazing video dude on my fav band of all time. Loved the prequel intro how you got into BOC. Always good to have an insight to the early beginning of how fans are attracted to their bands. I was lucky enough to see BOC 3 times in the UK on the Spectres tour. One of the few to see the full laser show on that tour at the Liverpool Empire, Astronomy with lasers WOW, and Godzilla drum Solo with Godzilla head on Albert under strobe lighting, jaw dropping. Saw them again that year in Manchester and Sheffield, but Alas health and safety lot got their for these later concerts and said lasers and strobes a danger, but grateful to see full show in Liverpool. Hence totally agree dude Spectres number One. And agree too on the all time favourite "I Love The Night". Only major difference is Imaginos, played the vinyl off that one, and mirrors can't stand it, covered in dust now . Cheers for this 1 hour 5 mins 5 secs thoroughly enjoyed it Mick

Saw them four times, met Buck Dharma,Eric Bloom and the the late great Allen Lanier and they autographed my concert ticket,my Agents of Fortune record and Some Enchanted evening CD sleeve,The Stoned Age is my first exposure to Blue Oyster Cult and at that time I was a big fan of Classic Rock from 1965 to 1980 and also I remember when TBS or SciFi channel played a Godzilla movie marathon and the ad played BOC's Godzilla in the background. I was the only kid in high school in the mid 90s who loved Blue Oyster Cult we all loved Hendrix,The Doors, Zeppelin,Sabbath and early Aerosmith next to modern Thrash Metal and Grunge but for me BOC is the best . You just gained a new subscriber thru me with this video.
Nice video mick! Absolutely hilarious when you were trashing imaginos. You were saying no respect to John Rogers no respect to any of the guys but I think you meant to say no disrespect😂😂😂

Love the passion for BOC. Just saw them for my first time five days ago and they were amazing. I thought I was the only one who thinks Spectres is their best album. Nice to know I'm not alone.
@@DickTwatkins I'll provide my ranking later. Mine is similar to yours in that the middle period of the band's is my favorite. I like the first album more than you do though. Club Ninja to me is middle more than closer to last. But like you said they're awesome and I love them all! I enjoyed your backstory very much too! Thanks!
Jon Rogers was actually part of the band for a little while and I think they were just throwing him a bone by letting him sing a song. And I don’t think Eric, for one, was really pleased about the album being forced on them. But I agree, may have been better sounding if Buck sang it.
Hi Mick., Awesome review!! Thanks for sharing. Entertaining, and LOL🤣 fun. Your back stories on how you discovered the band, along with your anecdote of listening / discovering Spectres at your friends with the black lights and the haze, and your Cultösaurus description is one for the books. Your enthusiasm for one of my all time favorite bands, Rocks! You could double for a young Jack Black, on any given day. I am on the same page with you on Spectres, and Agents, which are my 2 personal favorites and period of the band, along with OYFOOYK, which gave those first 3 albums an Adrenaline / Nitro / Turbo Boost🔥🚀‼️ they so righteously deserved. Long Live B.Ö.C... and Cheers from California 🤜🤛.
I really enjoyed your Blue Öyster Cult reviews especially the stories about your teen years. We don’t agree on what their best album is but we do agree there a great band. I’m a big fan of the first three albums and imaginos. I saw them five times on the imaginos tour I thought it was great. I hope you keep making more videos. Maybe ya rush album ranking video??

Awesome review and I agree with most pics. I bet the band would definitely get a kick out of your reviews! I actually always thought Wings Wetted Down and Cities On Flame were the only tunes that ever reminded me of Black Sabbath.
"Club Ninja" on the same level as "Tyranny and Mvtation" and their debut??? Sacrilege. Like you said, everyone's list will be different. Just glad you're one of the Oyster Boys!!
Man I’ve tried so hard throughout the years to get into BOC but it just hasn’t happened yet. This video makes me wanna give it another shot though. Love your videos man, keep rockin🤘🏻
Thanks Austin! I’m telling you dude BÖC RULES.Check out Fire of an Unknown Origin! I think that’s a good starting point.Fire up the Black lights and lava lamps, chill out and let BÖC take you away 🤘🏻💀👍🏻
Hi Austin., Try starting with tracks 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, from B.Ö.C.'s 1976 album Agents of Fortune... - The Revenge of Vera Gemini - Sinful Love - Tattoo Vampire - Morning Final - Tenderloin
They are an acquired taste Give the songs a few listens Once you get them you’ll be hooked Absolutely Amazing guitar work Heavy rock and roll Bizarre cool lyrics

23 Second mark... SUBSCRIBED!!!!🤣🤣🤘🤘 BOC was the Third band I ever saw and to this day, I still haven't seen a band play more in the dark with random things blowing up on stage or flame fountains shooting up NOT at the finale???!!!!!😳🤯😱🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
First song I ever heard by blue oyster cult was city’s on flame I love blc but I thought every song they did was always gonna be that heavy .great stories mick
First time I heard BOC was in the first Halloween movie. Laurie and that other chick was smoking a joint and fear the reaper was on the car stereo. I dig the imaginos remake of Astronomy lol My number 1 is definitely F O U O! Gotta shout out the heavy metal movie soundtrack as well for turning me onto BOC
Well I do appreciate your enthusiasm and love for BOC and I don’t think they ever released a bad album and I love several of their records but my all time favorite is that first album. I think it’s one of the best albums ever released. I’ve been a fan since I saw them live on the Tyranny and Mutation tour (I was 13 years old) I’ve seen them live and even met them a few times. For some reason over the years I have learned to appreciate the first album for several reasons including the songs and way that album flows and has such a unique sound.
Great list. Would rate the "Black and White " albums higher personally but I saw them in the early '70's live. You should watch the movie, "Heavy Metal". BOC wrote songs for each segment, but those fantastic groundbreaking bands such as Trust and Riggs took the forefront. No such thing as a bad BOC release. Buck Dharma is The Guitar God.
14) Curse of The Hidden Mirror 13) Heaven Forbid 12) Club Ninja 11) Revolution by Night 10) Cultosaurus Erectus 09) Spectres 08) Mirrors 07) Agents of Fortune 06) Fire Of Unknown Origin 05) The Symbol Remains 04) Imaginos 03) Blue Oyster Cult 02) Tyranny & Mutation 01) Secret Treaties
Let's see... Curse of the Hidden Mirror, Heaven Forbid and Club Ninja all in the bottom 3, with Revolution by Night right after? Check. Tyranny and Mutation at number 1? Close. The Symbol Remains respectfully ranked? Check. Fire of Unknown Origin near the top? Eh... Overall, this is easily my favorite of the rankings here. I would bump Fire of Unknown Origin up, and Secret Treaties down (I've never been quite as fond of it as everybody else seems to be), but other than that, I think everything is in negotiable territory for me. Blue Oyster Cult is one of those bands where I'm just not capable of ranking all their albums. Aside from the couple at the top and the several I feel are comparatively lackluster, they have a bunch of albums that are too close to definitely call, and which will shift around depending on my mood.
Love the part in "7 Screaming Dizbusters" where Eric sings about buzzing around in the Ol' Rockers Home in jet-powered wheelchairs with Elton John and Jeff Beck.
My favourite Blue Oyster Cult album is Fire of Unknown Origin Several of the songs were intended for the soundtrack of the animated film Heavy Metal, such as "Vengeance (The Pact)," the lyrics of which follow in detail the plot of the "Taarna" segment of the movie Which is why the producers did not pick the song because it gave the plot away.. However, only the song "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" ironically not written for the film, co-written by science fiction author Michael Moorcock, ended up in the film's final version and soundtrack The phrase "...veteran of a Thousand Psychic Wars" is from the Hawkwind song "Standing at the Edge," from the album Warrior on the Edge of Time (1975), which dealt with the myth of the Eternal Champion and contained lyrics written by Moorcock. Hawkwind is also Lemmy Kilmister frist band. Veterans is the third song Eric and Michael had worked together. Frist being The Great Sun Jester from Mirrors and second being Black Blade from Cultosaurus Erectus. The lyric for Black Blade is based on a character in Moorcock's books called Elric of Melniboné, who carries a sword called Stormbringer that feeds off the souls of its victims. The frist time I saw BOC was for Club Ninja they open for Ozzy and out performed Ozzy.
Bought a ticket to see BOC later this month and since I've only been a casual fan, I decided to start listening my way backward through the catalog and I have gotten stuck at The Symbol Remains. The whole album smashe skulls and I really, really, really would love to see them close the show with Fight, then just leave the audience sitting in the dark for a bit.
I love that! Welcome to the strange world of Blue Öyster Cult 🪐 “The Symbol Remains” is such an excellent album! Modern day classic. Thanks for checking out the video.
@@DickTwatkins amazing how these bands whose principal members are in their late sixties and even seventies are just hammering these things out. I never got to see these bands when I was a kid so... now I'm old, I'm getting to see all the cool bands. Also, Flatwound bass strings were invented for Danny Miranda to slide around on.
GREAT VIDEO! Thank God, someone else agrees with me that 'Imaginos' was one hell of a mess. I prefer to listen to Albert's original demo of the material. I'm a bit surprised that you ranked the first album so low. The only stinker on the album was "Redeemed", a song that they bought from someone for whatever reason. I suspect maybe it was the strange, murky production that turns you off...a mostly midrange mix. But, as was engraved on the original run-off groove of the vinyl..."Play it loud!" Also glad to see the Tyranny album ranked low. Side 1 is awesome, while Side 2 is mostly snooze. I catch a lot of flak online with this opinion. I also gotta say that the phrase "Behind the back, behind the bush" is a damned funny line that I've never noticed, thanks for pointing that out! As far as the movie "The Stoned Age", take it from someone who was actually there...that's what it was really like in the late '70s. I've seen a lot of films trying to depict that era, and they all failed. It's my favorite film depicting that era of my late teens. "Mirrors"....I actually listened to it again 2 nights ago. Great pop songs. The big problem is Werman's production. I can hear how a lot of these songs could have been produced to actually sound like BOC instead of a '70s pop cover band. And those horrid female backing vocals, totally out of place. Big goof calling Martin Birch "Tom Werman" as producer on the 'Cultosaurus Erectus' album. Hey, it's cool Bro, we all make mistakes ;) The top 5 are always hard to pick. I switch them back and forth...they're all that good. Ultimately, 'Secret Treaties' is my favorite (BTW, "Cagey Cretins" is probably their most underrated song...give it another listen and crank it up!). But sometimes, 'Spectres' is my top pick. Maybe I consider it a tie. But it's so cool that a guy half of my age has such a grasp of how this awesome stuff stacks up when compared to itself. Keep up the good work!
Secret Treaties is my favourite too...but I like Imaginos and think its underrated. If you didn’t know the story and history around that album, and you didn’t know a lot of non-BOC musicians and session players are on it, do you think that you might like that album a little better? Because I don’t think that album is a ‘mess’, I like the dark and gothic feel of it with an 80s flavour. But its a mess in terms of how it got to eventually get made.
@@jimmycampbell78 That's a very good and reasonable question. I did buy 'Imaginos" when it first came out, and was very disappointed then. The only info I knew about it was what was printed on the CD liner. It showed the original band back together with the original producer, and some other musicians listed as well...which wasn't unusual. But something just didn't seem right, and I wondered why in the world would they redo "Astronomy" and "Subhuman"...and the other songs weren't that great. The whole album seemed disjointed, especially when compared to other releases. As the years passed, the details have come out, and seems to validate my initial reaction to the album. Imagine if a movie had been made the same way...old footage mixed with new footage with new actors, etc...that would never work either. There are some good moments on the album; keep in mind that a ranking of a band's output is relative their output, but maybe not a good measure of quality as compared to other bands' output. I would certainly rather listen to 'Imaginos' than any album by Journey, for example ;)
Fair enough- I really like I Am the One You Warned Me Of, In the Presence..., Del Rio’s Song, The Siege... and Magna of Illusion on it. I like the dramatic ‘gothic rock musical’ atmosphere of the album although I can understand others thinking its overdone and over produced. I also agree its relative to the strength of BOC’s catalogue. Personally I’d put it above the debut, Mirrors, Revolution by Night, Club Ninja and Tyranny & Mutation (may be sacrilege!) though!
Never really got into blue oyster cult just kinda new them as the don’t fear the reaper band. Heard burnin for you on the radio and I was like “wait blue oyster sing that”, so then I downloaded fire of unknown origin and I really liked it so then I downloaded agents of fortune, and I really liked it!!!! Then I thought, what should I get next? Then I remembered “wait a minute mick has a ranking” then i thought “wait a minute if they have a lot of albums and mick is a big fan then the video is probably 10 hours long 😩🤦🏻! So I watched the top 5! Awesome job mick! I’ll check those out!!! Thanks!
Fascinating!! Maybe the best live band of that era, has 2 magnificent live albums. Some enchanted Evening. And of course" On your feet or on your knees" live from Oakland California....is the best album from one of the best bands in Rock history....damn just talking about it is making me want to hear it again....The Subhuman live....a masterpiece!
You were right. I can't believe you put Curse of the Hidden Mirror above Tyranny and Mutation. The latter is their best album while the former is quite possibly their worst (it's between that and Club Ninja). You are, of course, entitled to your own opinion, but that opinion is still bad.
I totally get that! And you’re right! But we all hear things differently…Like I stated in the video those first 2 albums just don’t connect with me as much.
@@DickTwatkins I mean, when it comes right down to it, there's no objective truth in musical preference; it's all subjective. But I can simultaneously believe that and believe my taste is better than yours. And since it's pretty pointless debating things according to an "all musical taste is subjective" model, that puts us squarely into the "my taste is better than yours" model. And just to make sure my taste actually is better than yours, I just double checked, and I agree with every decision I made, while your decisions don't score nearly as well. If that isn't definitive proof, I don't know what is. I mean, we could have somebody else double check the decisions, but are we really going to trust the opinion of somebody who hasn't already been verified as being correct 100% of the time? That just doesn't make any sense. So Tyranny and Mutation is clearly BOC's best album. It's been incontrovertibly confirmed.
@@stuffyouotterlistento1461 Believe what you want! And that’s cool! BUT I simultaneously believe that my taste is “better” than yours 😉 Regardless BÖC Rules 🤘🏻
All the way back to the 90s? God bless you. I saw Cult 5 times, 4 that I actually remember, the other one was a very special experience I'm sure. Two of those shows with the lasers - amazing. As much as Sabbath is my first love? Well I saw the original line up of BOC several times more than Sabbath with Ozzy sad to say.

I'm a die hard Spectres fan, I've been a fan of it since I heard I Love The Night and now I'm 17, still the best album from them. The production is just way too lush for me to not put it up at #1. THE PIANOS MAN, THE PIANOS, and Golden Age of Leather??? R U Ready 2 Rock??? Nosferatu??? Death Valley Nights?? The fucking BEST
@@DickTwatkins I tend to agree about the production. My first introduction into the band was also Fire of Unknown Origin, but it was in ‘81 when it came out. I then bought ETL the following year and that introduced me to the back catalog. My favorite song (by far) was Cities on Flame. I then went and purchased the entire catalog (at the time) from ‘72-‘80. Was somewhat shocked when I heard the production on the debut. Unlike yourself, Alberts voice may be my least favorite, definitely behind Eric and Buck. For that reason right there, the sound of Cities on Flame from the first album just wasn’t quite right. I love the album, content-wise. It’s not at the top of my list, but it’s in the top half, for sure.

Wow, your age shows, Symbol remains SUCKS. Its lame, contrived and so nineties. In case you missed it, the nineties sucked. The single worst decade of rock. Its as if no one knew where to go with it.Its the most un BOC album. But then again, missing THREE members. Two Oyster Cult will never be the same.
Exactly how many "hits" did this album render? In its 3rd year, it's almost forgotten. I've seen numerous opinions and "content creators" who have reviewed this album rather negatively. The difference, I think, lies in the reviewers' ages. To those who grew up with BOC. BOC, it's not. It sounds like a cheap copy tying to appeal to a modern rock audience. The "replacement" musicians lack the musical skills of the original crew. They are just employees. It's an album that tries too hard and fails due to its lack of musicianship, which it tries to placate with theatrics. Then there are tunes like " Box for a head". It doesn't even blend well for an album with "heavy" pretenses. It's too pop. If you can't hear the difference between the original bands material and this, you are tone deaf at least.
@@Phuc_Socialist_You_Tube How many Rock artist especially Legacy bands have “Hits” nowadays? NONE! What does having a “Hit” even mean nowadays? We all have opinions and yours is definitely different than mine…And while I respect it! I don’t agree with it. BÖC Rules! Have a good one 🤘🏻💀👍🏻

Dude. You're the man. Great stuff.
Thank you 🤘🏻💀👍🏻
Nice video mick! Absolutely hilarious when you were trashing imaginos. You were saying no respect to John Rogers no respect to any of the guys but I think you meant to say no disrespect😂😂😂
Hahahahaha yeah that part cracked me up too! Yep! Totally meant “No disrespect” but getting caught up in the moment sometimes things slip. Thanks for tuning in man 🍻

That's close to the correct order..
Love the passion for BOC. Just saw them for my first time five days ago and they were amazing. I thought I was the only one who thinks Spectres is their best album. Nice to know I'm not alone.
Nick thanks for doing this! I love all things BOC! Will comment more later.
Where did you get that awesome shirt?
You’re welcome! Thanks for tuning in! BÖC is AMAZING.Thinking about Ranking the live albums as well.I got it on EBay!
I am on the same page with you on Spectres, and Agents, which are my 2 personal favorites and period of the band, along with OYFOOYK, which gave those first 3 albums an Adrenaline / Nitro / Turbo Boost🔥🚀‼️
they so righteously deserved. Long Live B.Ö.C... and Cheers from California 🤜🤛.
Agreed about Imaginos and Spectres. I’m older, so I’d move the first two and CE up, but great review, dude!

I rank Club Ninja a lot higher. My own ranking will be up Wednesday June 12 (2024)

Au niveau du son le travail de CULTURE FACTORY est excellent.
Great remastering
I didnt really like Cultosurus, but now i love it
This was alot of fun and funny too. I just ordered Specters from the music store and was anticipating it's arrival.
Nice review of Blue Oyster Cult.
Thanks man 🍻
Bien d'accord avec lui Mirrors est un magnifique album. Fin et très mélodique. Pour moi le meilleur du groupe mais tous les albums sont remarquables !
14) Curse of The Hidden Mirror
13) Heaven Forbid
12) Club Ninja
11) Revolution by Night
10) Cultosaurus Erectus
09) Spectres
08) Mirrors
07) Agents of Fortune
06) Fire Of Unknown Origin
05) The Symbol Remains
04) Imaginos
03) Blue Oyster Cult
02) Tyranny & Mutation
01) Secret Treaties
I dig it 🤘🏻💀👍🏻
Let's see...
My favorite BOC albums are the live albums . “On Your Feet or on Your Knees” is the one I like best.
Love the part in "7 Screaming Dizbusters" where Eric sings about buzzing around in the Ol' Rockers Home in jet-powered wheelchairs with Elton John and Jeff Beck.
"In the cool grey light of dawn, you can't lie to yourself anymore...." discovered this song and album when I was in exactly that situation
Great tune! BÖC RULES 🤘🏻
Nice! Amazing facts! Some of which I did not know.I’d have to love to have seen the “Club Ninja” Tour.
Thanks for watching 🤘🏻💀👍🏻
Love Perfect Water too
Bought a ticket to see BOC later this month and since I've only been a casual fan, I decided to start listening my way backward through the catalog and I have gotten stuck at The Symbol Remains. The whole album smashe skulls and I really, really, really would love to see them close the show with Fight, then just leave the audience sitting in the dark for a bit.
I love that! Welcome to the strange world of Blue Öyster Cult 🪐
“The Symbol Remains” is such an excellent album!
But, as was engraved on the original run-off groove of the vinyl..."Play it loud!"
Also glad to see the Tyranny album ranked low.
Hey, it's cool Bro, we all make mistakes ;)
The top 5 are always hard to pick.
Thanks!
Spectres certainly does rank up there.
Shadow California, encore un superbe morceau avec un solo de guitare 🎸 bien violent et doux à la fois
BUT I simultaneously believe that my taste is “better” than yours 😉
Regardless BÖC Rules 🤘🏻
I proposed to my wife the night of a BOC show as well back a couple years ago! Nice!
My fave on Club Ninja is Perfect Water.

Cultösaurus Erectus was produced by Martin Birch, not Tom Werman, he produced Mirrors.
@@sspbrazil I know! Just a mistake. These videos I do straight off the cuff with a stream of conscious. Sometimes it’s easy to fuck up 😆
LOL I just saw the thumbnail and I thought Bradley Hall finally got a brain and decided to give respect to BOC.
So you love Stairway, Before the Kiss, Cities on Flame, and Last Days of May, but the debut is not very good? Interesting.
I said the debut is a great album! It’s just never connected with me as much as the albums after it have.I think it’s mostly the production.
News Flash: after having the debut ranked second to last, all of your picks could’ve been considered controversial for the most part.

You are the only person I’ve heard in the 3 year existence and the album that “The Symbol Remains” sucks…No way 🤨
Exactly how many "hits" did this album render?
