    Wrong title, I guess.
    DRL wasn't actually explained.
    But nice video about notifying motorists to ensure their headlights are on and to not depend on DRL always.

    My car is a 2009 and my lights are always on. When it's daytime out, the DRL's are on. If it's a dark environment (like a parking garage) or night time the headlights come on automatically. They're not tied to the headlight switch at all, you cannot turn them off until the car is shut down. In rain it's usually not dark enough to trigger the headlights, so I have to turn them on manually so my tail lights come on.

      That's so funny. They clearly turn her audio off when the guy talks to mute the background noise, but leave his nose wind playing while she talks 🤣

    We need as many people as possible to see this video. There are too many that drive without headlights and just with the LEDs in the tunnels and at night. This creates real insecurity on the road. Dealers should be more vigilant about this

    So here’s how it works on auto there’s a sensor usually on the dash that detects light. When it’s daytime the sensor will keep the DRL on so your cars lit up during the day it’s important just as much as nighttime if it’s raining or foggy people can still see your car. When nighttime hits the sensor flicks on the main headlights. When your main headlights come on the dash lights dim to tell the driver there headlights are on. You might have to move a dimmer switch to light up the dash lights. Most cars don’t have an option to turn the lights off my car has Auto , Parking Lights and just On.

    I was seeing many Toyotas with headlights but no rear lights at all. I wonder how many thousands of accidents this has caused. Then I figured out I was doing the same in my Toyo, the first click of headlight bar only turns on front lights, then you have to click it again to get full body lights. The third click seems to be some sort of extra bright headlights, which I turn on when opposing cars have extreme headlights.

    • @omarherrera4444
      @omarherrera4444 8 місяців тому

      The third click is the headlights that’s what you have to use at night the second click is parking lights which only help other people see your vehicle but it don’t help you see the road that well

    The dummies that have built the cars should not have the dashes lit up when no light switch on. My dummy neighbors take out the daytime headlight fuse thinking they are saving the life of the bulb. What they don't realize is most people now are attuned to seeing the headlights of a moving car and may not recognize them coming down the road resulting in an accident. Our Toyota is set up so we can leave the headlight switch in the on position and when we shut off the car and get out, they automatically go off. The school bus I drive has auto headlights that turn everything on when it is running for a few seconds. No switch. All of the lights, headlight, taillights, running lights on.

      Yeah, I say put 100W spot lites all around the car at least on every corner, so that the dummest dimwits see a car on a sunny day at noon down the road..
      Wonder how we ever survived before DLR and Airbags ?
      BTW, ever wonder why they came up with this shtuff ?
      Sarcasm out.

    Your statement @ 00:52 saying that the light switch should be set to AUTO is incorrect for those that have it. The reason I say that is, that while the DRL (daytime running lights) come on, the tail/marker lights may not, and here is why. Most newer vehicles have that little sensor up near the centre of the dash towards the windshield. This sensor is highly sensitive and may not turn on your marker and tail lights in low light conditions. If you are towing a trailer, the marker lights and tail lights are not illuminated, when it is bright out. As you mentioned, TC (Transport Canada) will be implementing a new lighting standard. In Sep 2021, the Canadian Vehicle Lighting Regulation will require that all new vehicles sold in Canada have one of the following:
    1. tail lights that come on automatically with daytime running lights
    2. headlights, tail lights, and side marker lights that turn on automatically in the dark
    3. a dashboard that stays dark to alert the driver to turn on the lights
    This standard will apply to all new vehicles (cars, trucks, SUVs, 3-wheeled vehicles, motorcycles and heavy trucks).
    I think the standard is good idea, however, there should only be one option, and that is option number 1. The DRL and tail lights need to come on automatically when the vehicle starts.

      What you just explained is what my 2004 car already has lol. In Auto the DRL are on during the day when night hits the main headlights come on and my dash lights dim I have to to turn up a dimmer switch to brighten the dash lights at night. If you don’t want the Auto setting to do weird things you can just flick the lights to stay On all the time. When I park and remove the key the lights shut off after 15 seconds if the lights are flicked to On and I remove the key the car dings at me to turn them back to Auto and then the lights turn off.

    As far as I'm concerned, I'm driving a 2014 Audi A6 and the dashboard only partially lights up with the daytime running lights. I do not understand other users who drive without headlights in the back and only with the LEDs in the front. For the style, it's great but otherwise, in some situations it can be very dangerous. It would be necessary to take stock by manufacturer

    *ALWAYS REMEMBER TO TURN ON HEADLIGHTS MANUALLY WHEN IT’S FOGGY!!*
    99% of the „automatic light sensors“ only work for brightness and NOT for distance.
    In Switzerland *you always have to drive with lights ON.* Throughout the day at least with DRL (if there’s good weather). And that’s a right decision. 👍🏻
    Btw: Of course you have to drive with normal light (headlights & rear lights), when it’s raining, snowing or when it’s foggy. You are *not allowed* to use fog lights when you can see further than 50 metres (~165 ft).

    I never use headlights in daytime. Lights were made for night driving. This is just more money for bulbs, inspections, and not needed..fog or heavy rain daytime yes, but ppl really look stupid at 3 pm on a sunny day with lights on

    • @ryans413
      @ryans413 7 місяців тому +1

      No lights help other drivers see you. If it’s daytime but it’s raining or foggy or it overcast lights help a lot to see other drivers coming. There not just used for nighttime. Plus’s all the cars I’ve owned I hardly ever had to replace a bulb.

      It could also save your life tho? I can't tell you how many times I've almost made a turn because another dang car with their headlights off during the day comes barreling down a 35 mph road at 50 mph. Statistics are very clear that having them on reduces the risk of a crash significantly, and if you think you're saving money, you're actually risking your life and someone else's by not having the common sense to just turn the damn lights on. It's not worth a few bucks.

    • @spifferooni

      It increases fuel consumption, does virtually nothing to prevent accidents.
      Driving with headlights on when it's nice and sunny is stupid.
      If you can't see properly, don't drive!

    • @ryans413
      @ryans413 5 місяців тому

      @@spifferooni that’s not the point and the headlights are not on during the day those are DRLs not the main headlights and they only come on when the sun starts to set or if it’s a cloudy day. Once it’s dark enough the main headlights come on. If you leave the light setting in auto this is what it dose. Most people are clueless and drive around with their headlights on all day because the have the switch in the on position not on auto.

    Auto lights are useless imo. I can just leave my Honda Civic's lights in the on position 24/7 and they will go off whenever I open and close the driver's door with the ignition off, defeating the purpose of auto lights.

    This is nonsense. DRL is added for people that can't operate their vehicles properly, and imposed on people that can. Albeit for the sake of safety. There should be an override option for people that know how to operate their own headlights. What if you just want to stay parked with the engine running in an unsafe neighborhood? You are advertising your presence with the DRL.

      Who would do that? Hmmm, let's see:

      2. A cop watching for someone looking to buy street drugs.

      @@peterdance9143 3. Someone that lives in an unsafe neighborhood. 4. Someone that has to stop in an unsafe neighborhood and wait for help. 5. Someone that is a journalist that is working a story. 6. Someone giving a ride. 7. Someone that got lost. 8. A parent looking for their wayward kids that are buying drugs. - I wonder what other reasons other people might have as well. But no worries. I figured out how to disable the DRL. It's just a firmware hack on the vehicles computer. Thanks for commenting and thumbs up!
