@@thepope2412 I wouldn't say "brain dead" because I don't believe there _is_ a brain dead weapon in Monster Hunter, but Switch Axe is definitely way simpler than it sounds. Having a weapon with two modes sounds intimidating, but it's not hard at all.
@@Zebo12345678 lance. Literally just poke the monster then counter shield when you're about to get hit. Repeat until the monster is dead and you have taken almost no damage.
It's intimidating as hell to be sure, but it really isn't as bad as it looks, I promise. Just spend a little time on a punching bag like Great Jarg or something and you'll be surprised at how fast it picks up. A learning curve to be sure, but it isn't NEARLY as steep as it first looks. Take it a piece at a time; learn the sword, learn the axe, and the guard points are honestly gravy. Regular guard will serve just fine until you learn guard points.
After the Deviljho patch on PC, I made an Opressor's charge blade and I'm having a blast. Using this and gaijin hunter tutorials (he has a VERY GOOD one) and trying every single move on the training area as I watched them, I finally got it. It's not really that hard! If you're having issues with the weapon, try this as well. Thanks for the encouragement, guys!
There's also another shield charge he didn't go into with this video. It basically turns the shield into a spinning saw. When you go to do the SAED hit L2 instead and it will charge the shield a second time.
Not gonna lie, learning to use this weapon effectively is like studying for the S.A.Ts. You'll try and remember at least half of the info until you decide to wing it and hope for the best.
Hot damn... I barely scratched the surface when I was using this, I some how accidentally charged my shield and did this massive attack and was like "dafuq was that???" Needless this video was very helpful
I had that moment with a Longsword until I watched his video on it. Did the weeb attack as a monster hunter newbie and had no idea what I just did or how to do it again XD
Zackary Wright I dunno about that, imagine getting smacked in the face with an electrical storm AND an axe at the same time. Far better than any alarm clock.
It took me a while, but I've come to master the weapon a bit more, and now I'm taking on monsters without fainting! Sure, my Palico has to bail my butt out with Vigorwasps often enough, but I'm doing pretty well. I can't wait till I truly master the Charge Blade, and every monster shall fear my wrath! Muahaha-*coughcoug*
Me 40 minutes into the 2nd mission: "I think I'm getting the hang of this weapon..." Me 10 minutes into this video: "Oh, you can store files in your shield..." Me at end of this video: "I don't have a clue how to use this weapon..."
yea it honestly took me 2 whole monster hunter game iterations to truly get this weapon down, funny part is the reason i'm here watching this is that there's apparently a new thing to charge into it in Iceborne so i wanted to learn that but this video was made before that so... time for more research lmao
Just an easy break down from a fellow newbie. 1st 3:30 Know how to charge your phials 2nd 4:43 Then learn how to store your phials so that you can use them. 3rd 5:02 Then how to use those phials with amped up axe attacks. 4th 5:23 Know how to charge your shield using phials as well. . . 5th 6:11 . . . so that you can charge your sword after that. 6th 7:01 Now you are ready to unload a super charged kaio ken on a monster that leaves him wriggling on the ground like a fish out of water. Learn these fundamentals first and the CB doesn't seem so overwhelming anymore. COMBAT It takes some trial and error getting used to knowing when to bring out your axe and when to bring out your S&S. 1. The axe leaves you slow and defenseless so try to only bring it out when you have the monster flanked or on the ground. Just dish out a couple of hits with it and then switch back to S&S so you can defend yourself from its next attack. As a newbie I found that hitting the monster with charged up attacks from the side tends to work pretty well. 2. After that, just try to recharge your phials and sword using some of the combos recommended in the video. 3. Then repeat step one and two again. As for guard points I have not reached that level of competence yet where I can use them. You really shouldn't worry about it until the monsters get nasty enough to where you need to throw every single technique you can muster. Which should be for a very long time if you are a newer player. Just blocking their attacks or evading them is good enough.
For anyone who doesn't know, as long as your shield is charged, all you have to do is block an attack and you can respond with an axe attack or the super ED, if your phials are stored. You don't have to do a guard point. I often get my shield charged, phials stocked, and let enemies ram my shield so I can get a clean counter with the super. Try it, you'll see. You can go to the training ground, charge your shield up, grab a stock of phials and hit the explosive barrel in the middle. Block the explosion, and at the end of the slide backwards you push Triangle to throw the overhead axe or Triangle + Circle to do the Super.
For me, it's charge the phials then use them however you want. Shield charge mode for better guard and access to SAED, Axe charge mode for the axe morphing damage (my favorite)or Sword charge mode mainly for mind's eye. I dont overlap all 3 usually, just choose what you need. When the monster is down or there's an opening, unleash your big damage moves
Its not hard once you get core principles down. Just worry about charging your shield, guard point and the tips on how to get your files charged to red the fastest. Charging your sword is more optional. More often, your going to be going into two handed axe to deal your heaviest damage any way. I only charge sword if I know I can land a hit with that initial over head strike after the charge. Once you have those down, then worry about the damage combos.
Ive literally wired an entire 3 story building with a guy who only spoke a different language than me and honestly i feel like that was easier than this...
The charge blade looks and sounds intimidating when you watch this particular video. However once you get hands on practice and just follow the moves and combos mentioned here, the Charge Blade is surprisingly not nearly as difficult as it looks. I took a Charge Blade out for my first serious fight with it against Xeno'jiva, and for the most part it worked swimmingly with only a single faint.
Honestly Xeno’jiva is kinda easy tbh but yeah charge blade I feel like is as hard and difficult as u make it because you can get extra damage if you think harder but you for the most part just need to remember the bread and butter of CB
To cancel the Super Amped Element Discharge into the Amped Element Discharge it's 'Back + Triangle' as shown on screen in the buttons. My voiceover @ 7:48 says 'Back + X' - just follow the buttons :) Sorry! + for some extra, advanced Charge Blade tips, be sure to check out the Weapon Workshop Plus episode: ua-cam.com/video/5igu8Nx0No4/v-deo.html
Some facts about the durations of the charged blade and shield: Every used phial is equal to 30 seconds for the charged shield. 5 phials equals 2 minutes and 30 seconds for the shield. 6 phials (duo to capacity boost) equals 3 minutes. The sword is charged for 45 seconds. The leftover duration for the charged shield does not matter for the sword. With power prolonger level 3 the sword is charged for 60 seconds (+15 seconds), the shield is charged for 4 minutes with capacity boost (+1 minute) and 2 minutes and 40 seconds with 5 phials (+40 seconds). The pulsing charge animation means the durations runs out. Sword means 15 seconds are left, shield 30 seconds are left.
I've noticed sometimes I get a pulsing effect on the shield icon despite the charge shield already having run out. Like it'll be white on the hud, but still has the white pulsing border as well. Not sure if bug or related to one of the other mechanics.
I'll leave this here for anyone interested: -(sword) after a sidestep, spinning slash with triangle (or sliding slash) -as long as shield is charged, sword can be charged as well at no cost -super amped elemental discharge only requires the shield to be charged -(axe) after dash slam roll to do another one -each phial charges the shield for 30 seconds, max of 2:30 -after condensed discharge (sword charge) triangle for spinning slash (great damage) -quickly get to yellow phials with charged circle-->triangle -A good way to get to red phials: forward slash-->charged circle-->triangle-->sidestep triangle(or direction+circle) -Charged shield adds 10% damage to axe attacks -Charged sword adds no base damage however each hit deals phial damage, sword will never bounce while charged
Ryan Perry I know it's late but just to add you don't need tringle circle 3x for a super amped discharge.. just hit triangle circle after a shield thrust from any combo :)
If you have Focus 3 fastest way to get to red charge is Triangle > Hold Circle > Triangle or if the monster is a bit far swap the first with Triangle + Circle
The animations on the “Weapon Workshop” about 1:05 in is awesome! I really appreciate the little things like that. Shows your passion and detail. Keep it up!
I just start playing and this is the game I spent maybe 20 minutes in the training grounds just picking a starting weapon and this is the one I went with. Definitely need a guide as this isn't an easy weapon to use.
Its the hardest one. I played all weapons in multiple games and it really is. That is why charge blade players mostly play pretty much only this one weapon
@@Dargoneth i feel that its just the most versatile weapon in the game. you have great mobility great damage great defense with the blocking and great reach aswell in axe mode the only thing charge blade doesnt have is projectiles
@@mikeesteves8427 Mmh i agree with all but mobility. I feel so stuck after every hit, even slide round slash feels clunky. Its the main reason why im not good with this weapon.
@@Dargoneth after almost everyy with shield/sword mode attack in the moveset you can do a hop to the side which gets you out of the animation that you were performing before a bit quicker helps you reposition and makes it easier to transition into the next move. dont quote me on that tho i just woke up and i could be talking out my ass. the only attack where youre really stuck for a little bit is when youre doing super amped elemental discharge. its just a matter of practise
My friend introduced me to MH through World, so I picked up the game and decided to go with Charge Blade as my first weapon. Let's say it made for some weird first impressions. I expected every other weapon to be complicated in its own niche way, but I came surprised to see how little moves the other weapons get. Let's just say I'm now comfortable with learning all the other weapons in MHW.
Okay after 400hrs into the game with SnS, SA, Lance and GS (I've truly mastered them all, I can solo every single Tempered without the need of OP mantles), completed every tasks, got 95% of the decorations (those 5% are not needed for my builds), killed every single AT Elders... I've come to the point of extreme boredom because nothing is an obstacle to me anymore. And then, I FINALLY decided that I need to try out the CB for real. You know what? It's MUCH simpler than I thought it was! Really you only need to remember A SINGLE ONE COMBO (yes, I'm not even joking), which is charge double slash into shield thrust, every good bit of this weapon must utilize this combo. 1st. Fastest combo to charge phials and it's a loop. Without any Focus you just need 2 combo to get red phials. 2nd. After the shield thrust there are only 2 follow ups you need to remember. 1: charge your phials, 2: AED/SAED. 3rd. During the startup animation of an AED/SAED (with phials) you just need to press your guard button to store those phials into your shield. 4th. (Optional) After your shield is charged, do a reload and hold your weak attack button and release at the right time to charge your sword. That is, A SINGLE COMBO to start up everything, I can't even believe that it was this simple. You might need sometimes to get used too the mechanic and the flow but believe me when I say it's much simpler than you guys think. After I've mastered this weapon, oh boy, this guy has absolutely no bad match ups it's insane. I am currently replaying the game from scratch and I'm blowing through everything like a storm with CB. The most satisfy weapon ever.
@@Dargoneth this is the basic way to play cb but guard points honestly arent crazy hard to pull off consitently with some practise. i barely used them for my first 100 hours tbh but they are actually very useful. gets you away from just roll spamming
@@Dargoneth guard points are useful and pretty easy but if you aren’t good at them you don’t need to use them. It’s more effective to just roll out of the way instead of messing up a guard point and getting hit if you aren’t hitting them everytime
@@coltonspicks6709 Ye it was only much better than rolling in this longsword guardpoint style in MH XX. They attacked the monster non stop cause you had quick access to a guard point and unleash combo after combo. I hope the next monsterhunter brings this adjustable weapon skills back. I loved the abilities, they looked really cool
When I'm ready to start using a new weapon, I look up the corresponding guide here first. Without it, I'm lost and wasting a lot of time/potions just trying to figure out how to use the weapon correctly. Long Sword and the Helm Breaker attack for instance. Thanks for these guides Arekkz.
This is hands down the best CB guide I've seen so far for MHW. BUT I cannot believe you didn't mention the IMO most useful aspect of guard pointing, which is being able to instantly guard point (and therefore block) with triangle+R2 between your attacks, or rather during their recovery animations, whereas regular R2 shielding would not be possible. This means that you can react mid combo to the monsters attacks and guard point them. EDIT: What I said applies only to unsheathed and sword-and-shield mode. I'm afraid there's no instant guard point in axe mode, or at least not that I know of. EDIT2: A little but great tip I've seen on reddit. Pressing triangle just a tiny moment before R2 is more reliable than pressing both at the same time. Because you can fuck up when accidentally pressing R2 before triangle. However it's safe vice versa.
No he didn't. He mentioned there's specific phases during specific attack animations which have a guard points. But he didn't mention that you can instantly guard point with triangle+R2 between any attacks in sword-and-shield mode AND additionally cancel your recovery animation from the attack before. Which reminds me, I don't know of any instant guard point during axe mode...
277 hours into MHW, HR 101, MR 66, mained Charge Blade since I started the game. Thanks to you, I now know you can Charge the Blade. fml This weapon has an incredible amount of depth to it, every time I think I'm done I find out there's far more to discover
The Bow in MHW is far and away the best it's ever been, such a fun weapon to use now. I don't think I'm missing anything but then again it is a monster Hunter game so I'll be eagerly awaiting his tutorial as well
You know, I have a great deal of interest in this weapon because I like going sword and board. However this is like doing trigonometry while trying to understand women.
You only need to worry about doing a couple things with this weapon and that’s it. Whenever you down the monster just go with the second combo he showed the video. Do combo 1. Charge shield. Do combo 1 again. Charge. Wait for a opening and do element discharge 3 Rinse and repeat.
@@astrograph7875 seems like charging sword is only usefull if you have trouble finding an opening for SAED too so you can just forget about it if its too much.
Thanks, this really jump starts my skills when I haven't played in a while, it's such a great video and extremely well made and thought out and explained in detail.
Just want to acknowledge the awesomeness of this video: I'd forgotten how to cancel the full SAED into the regular AED, and this video saved me. We love you, Arekkz!
This is a genuinely great tutorial! When I picked up MHWorld I noticed the charge blade had more moves than I was used to in MH4U, and this video really showed what I missed, so thanks!
Guys don’t stress if you can’t get the hang of guard points. They’re irrelevant unless you’re obsessed with min/maxing. Most of the charge blade players don’t try to guard point. It’s just an unnecessary thing to think about most of the time. Focus on positioning and charging phials. You’ll do awesome if you keep your shield charged and be aggressive. Block big attacks if you can’t avoid and you’ll be fine. Charge blade is just crazy good once you get the hang of charging Shield and using super amped discharges. :)
A B It's very easy it takes practice. Guard point is very important when the monster is about to attack you and will K.O the monster and than the the elemental discharge attack can be ready to use of not been in axe mode.
Also, guard points let you quickly SAED as well. Some monster attacks need Guard skill to reduce the knockback. Practice with the bomb in the Training Area. Then on Diablos. Then when you feel confident, Black Diablos. She's a pain since the enrage burrow charge is *behind* you.
The guard point is almost a free point in guard, so it reduces knockback and chip dmg. So more opportunities to quickly ult, even if a regular block can also do this.
Came back to this vid after learning all 14 weapons. Took quite a bit of time to wrap my head around the move set but it eventually became muscle memory. Definitely one of my top 3, landing that perfect SAED is godly. It's worth giving a try.
Great weapon guide! I know CB is one of the most complicated weapons in MH, and it's one of the favorites, but I would really like to see weapon tutorials for the easier weapons first before progressing to the more complicated ones, so that hunters new to the series get a better learning curve.
The most obvious reason is that its his favourite weapon and the one he has spent the most time with. It shows that he knows the weapon. Another reason for posting it first could be exactly because its such a complex weapon. I think its the weapon that new players need a video of the most.
BBPandora this. I'm new to the series and already have 70 hours in the game but I was looking for something a little more interesting than great sword and IG. This guide should help me a lot in my journey to master the CB.
Toke Asaurus420 didn't say it was uninteresting just that it's less interesting than CB. Sure it's flashy and the kinsect buffs are nice but it pretty much boils down to, Buff phase Send out kinsect to place clouds for you Vault and perfom air strikes retreating to regain stamina Mount monster Fuck monster Kick monster while it's down Repeat I use Gun Lance, Great Sword, Insect Glaive, and now Charge Blade. I enjoy them all but I like changing it up between them. Edit: Maybe interesting wasn't the correct word to use. CB is more COMPLEX.
Toke Asaurus420 I'm not far enough to really start making builds yet. I've just now gotten access to high rank hunts. I love the weapon either way though I just have to switch playstyles or risk boredom. Hence why I main 4 different weapons, Gunlance being my absolute favorite.
It's a really fun weapon. It feels like everything can transition smoothly into another move. You get the best of a quick, skirmish-y weapon with the ability to swap to a satisfyingly heavy weapon. You can adapt to any situation with ease. I hope you end up enjoying it!
Bought the game Wednesday and have been playing every chance I get since. It is a bit overwhelming at first and your guides have been incredibly helpful. Thanks for sharing the knowledge
Try the Switch Axe. You still have the morphing aspect, and damage is a little less dependent on making sure you have this buffer, plus that buffed, plus phials in reserve and also red glowing shit so you can instantly fill phials again after a discharge. I’ve been playing a lot with SA and decided to give CB a try. CB is certainly more complex, but it can be way more frustrating also.
Just keep working at it, if you can do a combo you can run this weapon, it’s just remembering all the stuff, write it down keep it next to you as a cheat sheet until you get it.
I have found to have a better understanding of the weapon once I used it a lot beforehand, and then coming to see this video. It is quite difficult to understand, but I found it so much better than most of the other ones... considering I've been playing MH since Freedom! Thank you for the tutorial!
Thanks for making this tutorial, this is pretty much the only weapon I use and, considering how long I've had the game, it's pretty embarrassing how long I've been using it wrong.
The weapon is only complex if you think of it in terms of buttons to press. If you forget the buttons a bit and think in terms of animation it's much simpler and enjoyable, because it flows really well. It also works really well for mouse users.

It's very interesting coming back to this video after a few years of being a charge blade main. When I first watched this video, it felt like I would never be able to understand the optimal combos and how guard points worked, so it is so satisfying to come back, and watch the showcase at the beginning of the video, and know what is actually happening and know how to do it. This is my absolute favourite weapon to use; when the weapon finally clicks with you, it is just so satisfying to unleash combos and hit guard points. Even though it doesn't do as much damage as the GS or LS, it still feels like you've mastered something.
I'm using a hammer and i'm in love, but the longsword it's pretty good, a good range, speed and damage. I use a longsword with the anja tree upgrade i think. Btw if you are on xbox add me, my gt is: SAADAM74
I dont see what's so hard to understand about this weapon, once you get the shield/sword charging down the rest is just self explanatory and honestly comes to you pretty easily
@@AK33M oh nah, after the iceborn expansion I'm in the thourough belief that there is too many chefs in the kitchen, you have to keep track of charging 3 different things now while ALSO building phials to be able to do your super amped elemental discharge when the time is right and by the time you even start building phials after you've charged all 3 weapon parts one of the charges is most likely already wearing off so you have to re charge the shield/sword/axe etc... (I made this original comment before all this was an issue) there's just too much micro management now and its super hard to keep track of all that while in combat so I went back to being a hammer main cus I cream my pants any time I get a sexy K.O
Can confirm. Good raw and the poison is a neat add-on. Using fully upgraded Rathian armor and the Charge Blade right now, having quite a good time. Rathian farm is worth.

You do not need to charge phials to get the condensed element slash. As long as your shield is charged, you can do it by attempting to charge phials, event though there are none to charge. You will then enter the CES animation
I have never run into that issue, the animation time is all the same from my end whether there are charged phials or no phials charged. Something I am testing is the length of time the sword is charged whether the phials are charged or not.
but its much weaker in that form, you might as well work in an axe morph > sword morph for 2 hits in the time it takes to charge up the CES and land it. The beauty of the CES with phials is that it actually has comparable damage to a basic amp 3 and takes about as much time to setup as one but you can do it in the downtime it takes to charge your sword anyways to buff your regular sword attacks. If you have an uncharged shield, going axe morph, amp 3, sword morph is probably still faster than a uncharged CES and a reposition afterwards.
Gotta say, this has been my favorite weapon coming into MHW, and I have fallen in love with it so many times. For the longest time I didn't know about charging the phials into the shield sword or the axe (You can charge the phials into the axe by doing the same combo as the shield but instead of the right trigger at the end of it, use the left trigger) and I've been learning a lot about this weapon as time went on although I still never mastered it fully so this video really helped, mostly with teaching me guard points. Very good job with this and I greatly appreciate learning things about something I thought I had known everything about
@@ShitOwl shit mobility? Are you serious? Whaz about the axemode? You can even smoothly morph from sword into axe. It has a fade slash and you actually running while you're in axemode. You're not supposed to be in swordmode for too long, you must "combomorphing" until the monster is trapped, lay on the ground or is paralysed. You can play more agressivelly but for that you must know from what ankle you can hit it without cancel into axemode. I for example can do that for almost every monster. The chargeblade is a dmg monster too but you must also time your SAED because if you miss you lose alot of dps which cannot happen with the switchaxe because you keep hitting it with a combination of axe and swordmode. ALSO many underestimate the dmg output of the mounted discharge from the switchaxe. I hit monsters for like 40 dmg and that 13 times for an explosion for 344 at the and. And yes i know there is a risk to it too (you can thrown of or even can take dmg) i say the dmg from the discharge from sa and cb are almost identical.
@@ShitOwl the tempotal mantle and the rockstady mantle makes you a god for its duration. You can repeat the mounted discharge as long as its charged and cant be thrown off.

What can i say? I love this game but i hate that you need to look for a video on youtube to even know how to play. Very thankful you made this and the great sword video
Such a good guide - had no idea the 2nd attack on the axe did double while only consuming one phial - had been just skipping morphing into axe to get that 2nd combo hit. Thanks for taking the time to make these. I played a little bit of 3/3U and 4U but MHW is the first one I've really gotten deep into and the community is so awesome, super refreshing change from Destiny.
plug in a console controller and play it the way it was meant to be played, KB+M feels like a potato. It was definitely made for a controller. I opted for the $25 xbox USB dongle for wireless audio thru controller but other friends just plugged in. I havent controller-d on PC since a brief stint with Switchblade software for BC WoW hahaha
I actually happened to settle on the charge blade after a little experimentation (and misunderstandings of stars for rating of difficulty), I find it fairly easy to use once you understand what everything does
Cheat sheet: Shield attack = Triangle then Triangle + circle: Shield attack Shield charge = Triangle + circle Triangle + circle Triangle + circle then quickly pressing R2 a few times to get out of the animation and back into sns mode before doing an overhead slam Ultimate attack = Triangle + circle Triangle + circle Triangle + circle with shield filled (phials filled too optimally) Ultimate attack if shield was charged if not, just two elemental and one final overhead (aka what I had been constantly doing up to this point) = Circle circle circle Slam down sword. If shield charged it will be an elemental slam. = R2 circle triangle hold: Slam down sword. If shield charged it will be an elemental slam. It's actually not as hard once you try it and get it down, as with all things. But it also sounds more complicated then it is. The mega attack on my current charge blade did 36 then 162 damage to pole with two 40's from the elemental charge and this was with shield and phials all charged

I was thinking about using this weapon, but I rather learn to pilot a Boeing 767, since it's easier.
I don't think you can pilot a Bazelgeuse in this game :V
Just hunt some uragaan or radobaan that will teach you the weapons rather quickly
When you start getting it it's very rewarding.
After the Deviljho patch on PC, I made an Opressor's charge blade and I'm having a blast. Using this and gaijin hunter tutorials (he has a VERY GOOD one) and trying every single move on the training area as I watched them, I finally got it. It's not really that hard! Just an easy break down from a fellow newbie.
1st 3:30 Know how to charge your phials
2nd 4:43 Then learn how to store your phials so that you can use them.
COMBAT
It takes some trial and error getting used to knowing when to bring out your axe and when to bring out your S&S.
Do you happen to know why when sometimes when you store your philes you only get 3?

Saving for later.
This comment should be hearted

@X.Y.Z.07 that's my point, yeah. How is charge blade easier than lance lol
Pro tip: mash buttons until monster is dead.
I can confirm, I did that with the switch axe and found success until nergigante
Look man, I just wanted it cause it looked cool. I don't want to study like I have to write an essay about it.
Says the guy with ultraman picture
Its not hard once you get core principles down. Just worry about charging your shield, guard point and the tips on how to get your files charged to red the fastest. Charging your sword is more optional. More often, your going to be going into two handed axe to deal your heaviest damage any way. I only charge sword if I know I can land a hit with that initial over head strike after the charge.
Once you have those down, then worry about the damage combos.
@roninshinobi your comment rebooted my brain

The charge blade looks and sounds intimidating when you watch this particular video. However once you get hands on practice and just follow the moves and combos mentioned here, the Charge Blade is surprisingly not nearly as difficult as it looks. I took a Charge Blade out for my first serious fight with it against Xeno'jiva, and for the most part it worked swimmingly with only a single faint.
If an ex bow main like me can main this weapon, anyone can.
Honestly Xeno’jiva is kinda easy tbh but yeah charge blade I feel like is as hard and difficult as u make it because you can get extra damage if you think harder but you for the most part just need to remember the bread and butter of CB
Agreed. This is my main. It seems difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it, its straightforward. And fun.
Xenojiva is super telegraphed with all his moves so im surprised you find him difficult
To cancel the Super Amped Element Discharge into the Amped Element Discharge it's 'Back + Triangle' as shown on screen in the buttons. My voiceover @ 7:48 says 'Back + X' - just follow the buttons :) Sorry!

Sword means 15 seconds are left, shield 30 seconds are left.
thank you!
I've noticed sometimes I get a pulsing effect on the shield icon despite the charge shield already having run out. Like it'll be white on the hud, but still has the white pulsing border as well. Not sure if bug or related to one of the other mechanics.
I'll leave this here for anyone interested:
-(sword) after a sidestep, spinning slash with triangle (or sliding slash)
-as long as shield is charged, sword can be charged as well at no cost
-super amped elemental discharge only requires the shield to be charged
-(axe) after dash slam roll to do another one
-each phial charges the shield for 30 seconds, max of 2:30
-after condensed discharge (sword charge) triangle for spinning slash (great damage)
-quickly get to yellow phials with charged circle-->triangle
-A good way to get to red phials: forward slash-->charged circle-->triangle-->sidestep triangle(or direction+circle)
-Charged shield adds 10% damage to axe attacks
-Charged sword adds no base damage however each hit deals phial damage, sword will never bounce while charged
Ryan Perry wait you can charge the sword for free? You're my hero, I've been getting a whole new set of phials to charge my sword with lol.
The maximum time for shield charge is actually 3 minutes with the capacity boost
Loki Laufeyson the skills on the final boss gear will further extend this.
Ryan Perry I know it's late but just to add you don't need tringle circle 3x for a super amped discharge.. just hit triangle circle after a shield thrust from any combo :)
If you have Focus 3 fastest way to get to red charge is
Triangle > Hold Circle > Triangle or if the monster is a bit far swap the first with Triangle + Circle

It's the most satisfying weapon imo

However it's safe vice versa.
thats sick
He did mention it. At the 12:21 mark.
Thanks for the tip. I just started playing yesterday and this may be my main since I've gotten pretty good with it.

Kinda late but guard point prevents knockback, gives free dmg and less sharpness reduction.
Team darkside would disagree
Sure it's flashy and the kinsect buffs are nice but it pretty much boils down to,
Buff phase
Send out kinsect to place clouds for you
Vault and perfom air strikes retreating to regain stamina
Mount monster
Fuck monster
Kick monster while it's down
Repeat
I use Gun Lance, Great Sword, Insect Glaive, and now Charge Blade.

I love this weapon. I suck at it but man I do love it so much. lol
Pan I’m the same way
hahahaha same, it took me a while to understand how the vials work
I did not even know I sucked at it until I watched this video!
Just keep working at it, if you can do a combo you can run this weapon, it’s just remembering all the stuff, write it down keep it next to you as a cheat sheet until you get it.
same lol im determined to master this thing
I have found to have a better understanding of the weapon once I used it a lot beforehand, and then coming to see this video. It is quite difficult to understand, but I found it so much better than most of the other ones... considering I've been playing MH since Freedom! Thank you for the tutorial!
Charge Blade: This Video
Hammer: me smesh munster hehe
kinsect glaive: u p
Hunting Horn: D O O T
Greatsword: doo doo doooo doo doo doo. doo doo doooo doo doo doo. Imma charging mah attack.
Heavy Bowgun: Pew pew pew pew pew BOOOOOM
Andrômeda I imagine it being more like: “I am heavy weapons guy”
Thanks for making this tutorial, this is pretty much the only weapon I use and, considering how long I've had the game,
it's pretty embarrassing how long I've been using it wrong.
Only been playing for 3 hours so far, and this weapon is by far my favorite.
I need to watch this video at least 10 more times to understand half of it... XD
Try lowering the video speed, it's much easier to understand him then. But yeah, I still had to watch a couple of time to grasp it.
The weapon is only complex if you think of it in terms of buttons to press. If you forget the buttons a bit and think in terms of animation it's much simpler and enjoyable, because it flows really well. It also works really well for mouse users.
This weapon became my favorite after watching your vid tutorial for MH4U. This video is really helpful! Keep up the good work and happy hunting!
Me after this video:Wtf
fuji potato ok hunter, listen
Never forget to charge your charged weapon by already charged axe
Axe is also your weapon
Not, not the other one.
Listen, it's very VERY important to do these useful moves in battle
Don't look at other hunters beating the shit out of monster! You must prepare well! Triangle then triangle slash super combo, mom get the camera combo AND YOU'RE DONE!
Nice weapon bruh! Hello from russian hunter
Healer Queen 6aDpaK me after this comment:Wtf
Jerden Caday like almost everyone after my comments in english
fuji potato AHAAHH IKR
Healer Queen 6aDpaK the hell are you talking about lol you just make ppl more confused
*watches 5 minutes of this video*
*immediately switches to a different weapon tutorial, as I have yet to acquire a PhD in theoretical physics*
Why is the combo list in game not helpful at all? I been playing this weapon for 20 hours now and knew none of this stuff.
zalin2000 don't worry, that just a typical MH thing. So many hidden mechanic
I can really relate to u bruh, actually had a hard time learning wat the charge blade is truly capable of
Same and now I do know but i'm having a hard time relearning it I want to fall back to how I was playing it before.
Because you have to watch it constantly to figure out what your doing, lol.
Not to helpful when a monster is trying to bite you in half.
game all about research...all you upgrade and use weapons...they show unlock move on the move list... not just guess for hours on end.
Thank you for getting me into monster hunter I am loving long Sword 🗡 it’s epic
jameson somers I prefer the great sword myself but hey the game is fun no matter what!
blususpect completely agree with you, but the insect glaive is my love 😍
I'm using a hammer and i'm in love, but the longsword it's pretty good, a good range, speed and damage.
I use a longsword with the anja tree upgrade i think.
Btw if you are on xbox add me, my gt is: SAADAM74
I was a Switch Axe Main back in Tri. Now im one again in World.
Long sword and great sword are great actually all the weapons are great
I dont see what's so hard to understand about this weapon, once you get the shield/sword charging down the rest is just self explanatory and honestly comes to you pretty easily
Honestly. I only had to practice for 20 minutes and I understood pretty much the entirety of the CB. The only that was hard for me was gaurdpoint.
It's easy to understand. The problem is actually being efficient at it. Glavenus kicked my ass pretty bad after I watched this video.
@@TerraGenocide you hit the nail on the head with this. It's just way too much going on with this weapon now.
i dunno why everyone thinks this is too complex , after watching this amazing guide im already doin good in just a few quest runs.
Watched 1/3 of the video:
I'm going back to SA.
I've been using the dear lutemis CB in LR and it's been wrecking monsters left and right. Definitely worth farming rathian for it.
Can confirm. Good raw and the poison is a neat add-on. Using fully upgraded Rathian armor and the Charge Blade right now, having quite a good time. Rathian farm is worth.
Rogelio Jimenez it's pretty good I have it as well but if you can get the Diablo blade it does way more damage
Ty TRUJILLO I was thinking about that actually lol
I have the Magda Magnus it's worth farming zorah magdoros
Well rathian farm is like really easy so i don't see how it could not worth it😐
Thanks for the tutorial man. It seriously helped a bunch, especially the guard points and the charge B into Y+B. This weapon was the first one I picked so it was a bitch to learn. But now I feel like a badass whenever I change from sword into axe 👌🏼👍🏼
learning this weapon is a perfect example of the dunning kruger effect 👍
I came to get a better understanding of this weapon because I heard it's good, but I didn't understand anything that was said in this video...
Same, and I still don't know how to use phials!
Just go to the training area and train. After some time you should get the hang of the phial thing.
@@GrimmShard or just learn how and wreck everything in half the time. Weapons easy to learn just have to learn crit distances and canceling at higher level
R2, triangle and circle are buttons you can press on ps4
its funny really
you come in thinking your a pro at it and wonder if there's anything else to impove your skills with the weapon
you realize you ain't no pro and leave without learning any skills and lacking a couple brain cells because some of them died from being overwhelming loaded
You do not need to charge phials to get the condensed element slash. As long as your shield is charged, you can do it by attempting to charge phials, event though there are none to charge. You will then enter the CES animation
But the animation takes longer than having phials ready to charge.
I have never run into that issue, the animation time is all the same from my end whether there are charged phials or no phials charged. Something I am testing is the length of time the sword is charged whether the phials are charged or not.
James C he's right. Charging your sword without phials takes longer albeit a second or so.
but its much weaker in that form, you might as well work in an axe morph > sword morph for 2 hits in the time it takes to charge up the CES and land it.
Alright, so, I've finished the video and I only have one question.
Wut
Look up jocats crap guide for charge blade
Gotta say, this has been my favorite weapon coming into MHW, and I have fallen in love with it so many times. For the longest time I didn't know about charging the phials into the shield sword or the axe (You can charge the phials into the axe by doing the same combo as the shield but instead of the right trigger at the end of it, use the left trigger) and I've been learning a lot about this weapon as time went on although I still never mastered it fully so this video really helped, mostly with teaching me guard points. Very good job with this and I greatly appreciate learning things about something I thought I had known everything about
im just gonna stick to switch axe
Bɑrry Allen ORIGIᴻAL switch axe ftw
Switch axe is like the more aggressive brother of the charge blade xD
Yeah Switch Axe is weird because you may feel you're stuck in the same spot half the time doing your attacks but I suppose it's all around morphing
12:00 "so those are the basics"
wait that was still only the basics?
At 12:10 I like how he says "let´s talk about something more advanced."
I started playing MHW when it came out and since MH:rise launched, I wanted to learn a new weapon. I came back to these videos to learn the basics. The charge blade is still confusing to me but one I want to master. Thank you again for making these videos!
I was searching for new builds and weapons, and stumbled into the charge blade’s. Went on to check my box and to my surprise, I got all materials ready for crafting. After watching this video, I think I am ready...
to drive to the nearest liquor store and lament on how I wasted all those zennies and armor spheres on this weapon set.
Oh my Jesus this is mind-boggling... I'm on my 7th watch through of this video. Been using the CB as my main for the last 20 hours and thought I was doing great with it, until I saw this.
Did you get it?
"Code Red" came back and now I'm here, learning all this stuff just so I can be Dante XD
You gonna do the gunlance? I need that guide man! *scratches arm* I neeeeeed that guide!
lmao
the profile pic and name greatly enhances this comment
Im playing using mouse and keyboard. This is confusing lmfao
Kawaii_ Trap triangle=left mouse circle=right mouse R2=ctrl
@@lobsterman2727 wow thanks mate.
It took me too long to realize it too lol check out the video on my channel 3rd time using the weapon.
plug in a console controller and play it the way it was meant to be played, KB+M feels like a potato. It was definitely made for a controller. I opted for the $25 xbox USB dongle for wireless audio thru controller but other friends just plugged in. I havent controller-d on PC since a brief stint with Switchblade software for BC WoW hahaha
@@ZombieSpliffs people have their own reference. I prefer play this with mouse keyboard.
I actually happened to settle on the charge blade after a little experimentation (and misunderstandings of stars for rating of difficulty), I find it fairly easy to use once you understand what everything does
Cheat sheet:
Shield attack = Triangle then Triangle + circle: Shield attack
Shield charge = Triangle + circle Triangle + circle Triangle + circle then quickly pressing R2 a few times to get out of the animation and back into sns mode before doing an overhead slam
Ultimate attack = Triangle + circle Triangle + circle Triangle + circle with shield filled (phials filled too optimally)
Ultimate attack if shield was charged if not, just two elemental and one final overhead (aka what I had been constantly doing up to this point) = Circle circle circle
Slam down sword.
"if you want to cancel pull back and press x" that confused me for a bit as it says on screen pull back and press triangle.
Valkirth you probably figured this out by now since this comment is old but its because x was the button in that place for when monster hunter was on the 3ds
@Adam Stolar what? im on pc...
@Adam Stolar uh huh,i paid less than half of what your stating and it lasted 11 years, not sure where the hell your getting your info of having to upgrade after a game updates..
what exclusives? console hasn't had fuck all for a whole generation, hence why i sold my console.
and people like you are annoying as you bitch about someone else's choices and clearly lack any respect for other people,i've always respected other peoples format choice which has zero effect on how people treat other people.
For some reason this weapon came...somewhat naturally to me. It initially drew me in because I like defense but I also like big thing that cleaves skulls, but after some time, I learn the ins and outs of the weapon and HOO BOY!
Thanks Arekkz, Dante's Devil Sword brought me here
Same...
Same
They said this weapon was beginner friendly. Lol.
I actually mained that weapon for a while now, but I haven't known of a lot of moves that you showed there
30 hours in on third day during exams , shameless
hows it going?
just getting back into mhw after a two year break, this was much needed.
This guide reminds me of philosophy class at college.. You leave with more questions than you came with
