If you think this looks easy try it at home (no cheating) and tell us how you did. We started the idea at 10 and had to take it to 3 because we found it was harder then we thought🤣.
Lynn Thompson is the freakin' man. He can EDC what every other knife guy only dreams of. It would be downright weird if he didn't have a Espada XL in his pocket.
Lynn Thomson is the epitome of a bad ass, what a legend, that's what you want in a knife maker and designer, someone who isn't afraid to use their stuff and get behind it cheap or expensive
Seems like every other knife show on UA-cam that I watch, I always feel like they take forever and I want it to end. With Zac and crew, they always end so quickly and leave me wanting more because the content is so good. Keep it up, guys!
The guys over at Carter Cutlery are awesome dudes. They make there knifes in a small town in Idaho and they will walk you around their shop and show you the whole process. You should reach out to them and do a video with them sometime.
Yeah, I'd have had no probs with my kitchen knives. I keep them really sharp and I'm forever testing them on the old A4. But I'm not at all confident I'd be able to do it with something I was EDC'ing -- say, a Spyderco PM3? Even if it was really sharp, I'm not sure I'd succeed.
Zac that was a super fun idea. Loved it. I use a Work Sharp Precision to sharpen all my knives 🔪 with the addition of 3M lapping films. Mirror finish with a stropping will cut paper all day and split hairs. Great video!
Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.
Some of those guys have really sharp knifes that won! Lynn Thompson always carries a lot of knifes on him! You don’t want to mess with him! Cool video Zac!
Imagine if Lynn Thompson failed the test... I mean, that's the whole business he's indirectly betting on lol. He didn't disappoint me at all. Speaking of which, I used his CS Leatherneck to remove and break down some old plywood sheets for my home renovation as well. It's a really convenient tool for the job, and the edge is still sharp as if nothing happened. Good stuff!
I’ve been eyeing that Worksharp Ken Onion edition, I really want one of their sets. I own at least 15 knives now, a lot of which is thanks to you, Zac, lol. Glad you’re doing well, sir!
I'm 14 and my dad has a Lansky that he got like 20 years ago. I sharpened my Rough Ryder night out and Kershaw Filter. They now are like butter! No pressure to cut anything!
It’s such an important thing that I am such a slacker about. I’m really like liking my Worksharp Precision Adjust. It’s great makes me look way better at sharpening then I am😁
My recommendation: buy an inexpensive but quality knife with a steel that's easy to sharpen and then buy the Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener and practice, practice, practice. If you screw up the blade no big deal because, cheap knife!
my advice, another amateur: just buy an Worksharp precision adjust and eventually the upgrade kit. for home; if you are outside, its not suitable. maybe if you are outside with a car or a boat.
Dude, this challenge was made for me. Every single knife I put in my pocket gets stropped every single day and stays shaving sharp. Mainly because of my WorkSharp Ken Onion Edition. I also use magazine paper for my cut tests.
I carry a $35 knife. I sharpened it before I went on vacation to visit friends and family for a week. I carried it daily, used it often as it was Christmas and the day before I came home I showed my brother in law that I can shave with it. Some people doodle, some smoke, I sharpen my blade with 1200 grit diamond by hand. I keep a slight convex on the flat of the knife about 23 degrees at the edge, in the belly I taper to a V at 20 degrees and the very point is a hard V at 18 degrees to the front. Serrations are V at about 35 degrees on one side, flat on the other. The KA-Bar is not my daily carry, that's sharpened about the same.
Man so cool to see Lynn Thompson on there showing off big time. Really cool to see OCD-4-EDC as well. I’m surprised you guys didn’t know him. He’s fairly big and well known in the knife world. And I’d just like to say that any of my many Spyderco’s would have easily blazed through that paper.
Good thing I usually have my two-sided Fällkniven CC4 ceramic stone in the leather pouch near me, to touch up on my most frequently used knives regulary. 😅 I usually have them at least paper cutting sharp, and I also learned to cut a little differently depending on which knive I am using. 🤓
I use diamond stones when need to shape/set the edge and a Paper wheel on a high speed grinder. My Niece is a butcher, owns her own meat market, I sharpen her knives about once a month. In between she only touches them up with her steel … Some with still shave when she brings them to me …
This type of videos are awesome. Hope you'll do more like these, just getting to know what people carry and how much do they take care of their blades is pretty cool.
Oh man I loved this one Zac! Thank u! I tried the test with the knifes I had on me while I watched. Pena Lannys clip, Southern Grind Bad Monkey, Victorinox Tinker and Case Copperhead all passed the test, Gerber Dime did not lol but I carry it for the pliers 😉
Bro, I keep my knife unreasonably sharp at all times because 1. I like sharpening my knife and 2. I often cut cardboard boxes with it at work which you already know you wouldn't do. I would LOVE to show people how sharp I keep my knife!
Did Lynn Thompson EDC all that? or did he go back to the bench to get some more? because I could only see one knife and the sword cane on him? He is a legend!
If you think this looks easy try it at home (no cheating) and tell us how you did. We started the idea at 10 and had to take it to 3 because we found it was harder then we thought🤣.
Worked no problem with my Higonokami Irogane xD
I can guarantee all mine would pass 👌
You know your knife is sharp when you can cut the flat of the page.
How did I meet Lynn Thompson today, but didn’t meet you? Bummer for me.
@@mbrousseau22 Hey! Small world, neighbor!

"Can I try it with my sword" fucking sent my sides to orbit, what a man.
I met Lynn today and saw that Espada up close! What a character.
Well, at such an event he especially has to live up to his own name. Not that I doubt he doesn't, lol.😅
Lynn Thomson is the epitome of a bad ass, what a legend, that's what you want in a knife maker and designer, someone who isn't afraid to use their stuff and get behind it cheap or expensive
He is a super passionate guy!
that dude was sooo cool! no hesitation, instantly goes "lets try my sword". great guy
The fact that Murray Carter’s journeyman was disgusted that people couldn’t simply cut paper had me cracking up. 😂
I was like, “Why does Lynn have a cane? I hope he’s ok.” Obviously it was a sword cane.
I thought the exact same thing🤣
Legend
Seems like every other knife show on UA-cam that I watch, I always feel like they take forever and I want it to end. With Zac and crew, they always end so quickly and leave me wanting more because the content is so good. Keep it up, guys!
Thanks for watching man! Means a lot🤘
@@zacinthewild good Sir , why are your videos so short , i need more ,More!!😂
Lynn Thompson’s cane sword: effortlessly cuts the paper. Medford: “that’s a brave knife to do some paper cuts with” 😂
Lmao Lynn Thompson is a legend for carrying all of that!
Genuinely he does that daily, even for the last decade plus, and carries a couple guns. The man is armed deep.
lynn thompson was exactly how i imagined he would be lol
Exactly!
4:16 i’m laughing my ass off
@@zacinthewild lynn pulls it out of narnia.
As always, I love Lynn Thompsons passion. That was a nice blade that cut the paper long ways. Super sharp.
what is the name of his first folder ?

What a fun video!! I must practice with the short blades….all about technique!! Amazing giveaway too!
It was great talking at the show!👊

Great seeing you in the video Zach!! Love ya dude!
Sharpening is such an art. I have learned so much just by trial and error. Mostly error.
I’m definitely one big error with sharpening but getting better all the time.
lynn in the wild always is a trip, the man really is just clanking around armed like a knight of old at all times
All times😎
An absolute gangster. I used to fawn over his knives in the old magazines in my childhood.
Zac that was a super fun idea. Loved it. I use a Work Sharp Precision to sharpen all my knives 🔪 with the addition of 3M lapping films. Mirror finish with a stropping will cut paper all day and split hairs. Great video!
I need to work on mirror finish stuff after I learn how to sharpen well😁. Sounds like an awesome system you have going!
That Carter Cutlery guy sold me on their stuff
This makes me really reconsider how sharp I need to keep my knives. I refuse to take a knife out of the house if it’s not cleanly cutting paper.
Great video Zac. Lynn Thompson's cameo was epic. Keep up the great work. 👍
He’s was such a treat!
Ah man, another great video! that Lynn Thompson cameo caught me off guard 😂
He saw us filming and was very kind to jump on and show us some stuff!

i tried this at home, surprisingly difficult! new knives was easy to push through, but any knife that was used before needed some finesse. great video
