I believe the Bunkhouse Brawls were exclusive to house shows, but yeah. They stopped doing them at the same time JCP/WCW stopped doing the Stampedes, which was also around the same time the Royal Rumble became a PPV.
Fun facts about the Bunkhouse Stampede: Most years it was a tournament where there’d be a series of Bunkhouse Stampedes with the winners of each getting entry to the final, and the winner of the final would be awarded a trophy made from a bronzed cowboy boot.
Now, to be fair, WWE did do an off-shoot of the King of the Mountain match, when they did the Iron Survivor Challenge. Specifically, they adapted the KOTM's penalty box idea.
I've got a very obscure one, going back to Global Wrestling Federation's SuperCard on ESPN: Bungee Match. Two wrestlers wearing bungee chords fought in a cage up in the air. The winner was the first to throw or knock the opponent out of the cage. Only saw it once, and never heard of it being done again....
Match stipulation I'd like to see would be the Ultimate Triad match where the two participants fight until one person has scored a pinfall, submission, and countout victory over the opponent. Great to use for settling those big feuds. Can run long though so best reserved for a PPV.
Sounds like a variation of an Ironman match where they wrestle for a certain amount of time scoring pinfalls and submissions. The countdown is like last man standing, as mentioned above.
Really wish we had a wrestling game where you could make your own cage matches an the like, I always wanted to combine war games with eight sides of steel.
Hear me out. 3 rings and 2 teams of 4, 2 people from each team start as if it’s a tornado tag steel cage match but they only have 5 minutes to get out of the cage to enter the middle ring where whoever escaped from the outer rings would start the match in the center. It could end up being 4 on 1 or 2v2 depending on how the cage matches go
Since WWE rings are bigger than the ones WCW used to use I would imagine them using three would take up too much space not to mention the fact that from a TV perspective having three separate rings to keep an eye on is near impossible and each time WCW did it you could hardly tell what was going on. Didn't help back then it was all in a 4:3 aspect ratio either. Still definitely a match type to never be repeated unless the do it in two rings due to them being bigger anyway and sticking 60 men in that way.
There's also sadistic madness/doomsday chamber of blood, a match type where you first have to bust your opponent open (like in a first blood match), but THEN you have to win by pinfall or submission.
Another one that could be used was the X Division styled Ranking match as it could be a fun one for the IC, US, and Women's, and smaller titles a chance to get extra spot light on them. I wouldn't use it for the tag titles and WWE and Universal titles.
The Lethal Lottery could be cool in WWE. Unlike WCW legitimately putting random wrestlers together, you could make it cool with odd pairings, including partners that are (or had been) feuding.
NXT kinda did the King of The Mountain Match with their Iron Survivor Match from NXT Deadline 2022. They just didn't have to hang up the championship, but everything else was there.
ik its really new but i think stadium stampede/anarchy in the arena has already earned a spot on this list. this stipulation is perhaps the most consistently perfect match AEW has up their sleeve and is so creative, can change every time due to being held in a different arena and is so wonderfully chaotic that even production errors in not catching every bit of the action feel like a feature rather than a bug. its up there with the royal rumble imo in the list of least fuck up-able stipulations in wrestling. just get 10 insane people and let them go hog wild
1. Dragon Gate's Survival Cage, 2. TNA's Lethal Lockdown, 3. TNA's Feast Or Fired, 4. DDT's Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract Battle Royal, 5. Lucha Underground's Aztec Warfare, are My favorite other stipulated matches I would like to see in either WWE or AEW
When i saw the triple cage matches in WCW as a kid i thought it was the coolest thing ever lol. I grew up and watched it again and wow... I was easily entertained back then 😂😂😂😂😂
Honestly, the ready to rumble cage was a neat set up and the “Grab the belt at the top of the third cage, then go back down and escape with it” stipulation they did once was a legitimately cool idea for a gimmick match and could have been a yearly match like Money in the Bank. It also would have been a fun video game mode.
The Triple Cage matches in 2000 (it was also used on an episode of Nitro) were awesome. DDP and Jarrett put on a good show and Arquette played his part well.
I won't hear a bad word towards the King Of The Mountain match...it was a yearly staple...how'd you mean it hardly wasn't used? Making a yearly staple made it special....it had its time, but goddam it was fun!
I still think a "penalty box" as part of a non-pinfall stip makes perfect sense. There's real play and potential in a well-timed temporary elimination... or release. Not to mention that it also makes rest breaks narratively viable.
I remember seeing the first WW3 match as a kid, and being enamored by it. It seemed like it was gonna be WCW’s version of the Royal Rumble. Then it just disappeared. lol
Man, I miss the triple cage. It was dumb, but it was an entertaining, awe-inspiring kind of dumb that left an indelible mark in my memory. ...though you actually missed the one I remember most. They did a Wargames match inside it on an episode of Nitro in Sept of 2000. I was actually surprised WWE never made an attempt to revive it, as it's basically like Hell In A Cell done even bigger.
I had an idea while back for a cool match gimmick called the Octagon Match. Nothing to do with the MMA thing. In it, you have 4 separate rings squared together with each ring having 2 wrestlers. Wrestlers will then either just fight their opponent, get thrown out of the ring into the out of bounds, or be thrown into the adjacent ring. You can have someone dive into the ring next to them to help out another person and double-team someone. Or two wrestlers currently fighting might team up to kick the ass of their intruder just to get them out of the ring. Since there's only 8 wrestlers total, it's significantly easier to keep track of, and bc each wrestler has their own designated opponent, they always have someone to focus on, rather than get disoriented like in a battle royale. And because there's 4 specific matches, the cameras can more easily direct the audience to what they should be watching. You can also up the stakes with 4 tag-team matches at once, but that might get messy.
What about the electric chair cage match, or whatever it was called from WCW's Halloween Havoc? The one where Abdullah the Bitcher was put in the chair then electrocuted by his own teammate Cactus Jack.😂🤦♂️
The scaffold match was held back in the attitude era. The Dudley's Hardy boys edge and Christian ect. Wasn't really big like NWA days. They had also had bunkhouse matches .
World War 3 could honestly be a great idea if you did it in sections, kinda tweak it with Royal Rumble rules, spread the matches onto all three brands, then do a triple threat with the winner from each brand to get a title shot of their choosing
I saw an NWA scaffold match in person in Baltimore many years ago. One thing that was really bad visibly about it was the guys who erected it during the intermission were climbing up and down it with ease. The wrestlers, of course, had to sell the danger of it by climbing up slowly, looking nervous.
Tbf, if you have to build & use them on a regular basis then you're probably gonna be a helluva lot more comfortable maneuvering around the infernal structure than the greased up dudes that are about to have to go up & have the worst & most pointlessly dangerous underpants fight of their careers on top of the damn thing.
@@kami_in_the_skye On a tangent, if a scaffold match was a shoot (one foot above the mat or twenty), it should take less than a minute. It is essentially a sumo match on a smaller space.
One of the reasons we will likely never see a world war 3 match in WWE is because transporting and setting up 3 rings in the same area would be a logistics nightmare.
King Of The Mountain's rules are very simple, dude. The object is to climb the ladder and hang the belt instead of pulling it down, but you have to score at least one pinfall or submission on one of your opponents to become eligible to hang the belt. And if you find yourself on the receiving end of a pin or submission, you get locked in the Penalty Box for 120 seconds (2 minutes).
A proper king of the hill type match (where the wrestler who has spent the most time in the ring after say 30 minutes is the winner) could be quite interesting, especially if you have maybe 6 wrestlers in the ring
I saw a steel cage rumble match at an indy show in Tampa in 2004. The object was to be the last one left in the cage, and it was utterly ridiculous. Trying to contrive ways to throw people OUT of a steel cage is just as ludicrous as it sounds. If I remember correctly, it was won by Bruce Steele, or maybe Roderick Strong.
The worst thing about the first World War 3 is that it somehow managed to make the match setup work through good booking, camerawork and just plain luck. Rather than recognizing this WCW decided to make it an annual event, and were never able to replicate the lightning in a bottle.

Has to be Roman specifically, play it off as Roman being so dominant that literally EVERYONE wants to take him down. The bunkhouse stampede was used in WWE. Blackjack mulligan won it!! Some of The pictures in this video are from that match. Which was on wwf most unusual matches
