What is the material you used and the dimensions of the bookcase? I would like to use the method you have used where I built it in pieces and stack it a top of each other. Plus, I'm trying to work out the maximum height of a bookcase that I can use without having it screwed into the wall.

you always need to secure a bookcase to the wall, better safe than sorry.
these are all screwed to each other and to the wall in multiple locations.
We constructed these out of cherry frames and maple interior
the overall size was approx 9ft tall by 12 ft wide

what is the little ventilation for?

If you look at the beginning of the video you will see an HVAC (heating and air conditioner) vent in the floor we didn't want to block it so the bottom of the cabinet is an extension of that vent
