Crazy how I used to see your videos on my suggestion all the time and now they are never on there and I still watch the same content. UA-cam algorithm is weird! Love your videos bro!!
Check if your sub I just noticed I wasn't and that's crazy because I've been following this channel from Milwaukee tool chest being out in the van with wife and 2x4
Hey Richard, don’t let the lack of quality and integrity on new builds get you down. I’m fixing electrical problems in houses less than a year old because it’s a race to the bottom on any new dwelling, especially townhouses/ condos.
Paint the top of the 2 upper-trim boards all-around to match the ceiling. Or put crown a few inches down and paint the walls/trim just under the ceiling to match the ceiling. Then it'll seem more level. Especially if it's dark and you can't see the drywall corner shadow as well.
I love the quality of your work.....love the content......just wish you could post more of it.......keep up the grade A work brother.......I wish I had someone like you to train me
this video is awesome loved it thanks for sharing. Could you tell me how exactly you lock nail your pieces just shoot at an angle into the piece butting up against?
Looks awesome. I'm not up to speed on modern design, trying to understand if the goal is to cover the heavy texture, is the panel basically an alternative to skim coating?
Hello Richard, I’m looking to do the work you do on this channel and putting together some kit. Currently have the Milwaukee M18 15 gauge nailer and looking to add an 18 gauge nailer. Looking at the M18 model or the newer M12 model. Only downside with the M12 being that it shoots max 1 1/2 inch nails. Could you please guide me in which way I should go?
Now retired and do miss the opportunities to solve the problems created by architects and framers, foundations etc. Challenging but kind of satisfying when you can stand back and know that you made all the defects disappear. “If it look’s right, it is right”. One of many sayings taught to me by my mentors while doing a five year apprenticeship in finish carpentry. My career started in the mid seventies and ended in 2016. Looking back, I’m a very blessed man. Thank you Jesus.(My boss is still a Jewish carpenter). Thank you Jesus🙏
“Caulk and paint make a carpenter what he ain’t.” “If you can’t see it from six feet away, it doesn’t exist.” Two sayings that have gotten me through many a diy project. 😜
Same guys building 3,4,5 hundred K homes are same guys building million dollar homes, and they all have the same problems, just with a lot more square footage. Crazy, but million dollars dont get you what it used to.
I am a furniture carpenter and I have 5 years of experience. I want you to give me a chance to work at your place, you can do hair for me. I watch your videos on UA-cam, please.
wait, you miter folded 1/8th inch mdf? Even with a tracksaw that's quite a trick. Such a shame about that ceiling being so far out of level. Given the price you mentioned I'm surprised the guy did not want to pay you guys to level the ceiling. Makes me remember a job I once did. It was a pretty big bathroom and there was going to be tile floor to ceiling. The ceiling was out like 2 inches in 10-12 feet. I tapered 2x4s from 0-2 inches and installed them and then we sheetrocked to the newly shimmed out ceiling. Otherwise the tile would have looked like dog dirt. Cool project Richard, thank you for posting.
Ran into the un even ceiling in my spare bedroom. Decided to just take the top rail down a few feet rather than try to make it look pretty. Feel your pain. Learned to use a level first rather than after to check if walls are straight 🤬
I'd paint the crown the darker ceiling color to blend in where you had to scribe. It's very unfortunate that it was that off right on the wall where the screen will be pulling everyone's focus to.
I think for me I would've put some insulation panels first to sound proof the walls since it's a Theater Room. It would be more expensive but it'd great for using that room as a music studio set-up. (I'm always thinking about making money in every different situation🙄🤔🤑😂😂😂).
You did a good job. Unfortunately the Media room is going to sound terrible (it may have bad video performance as well). I'm not trying to hate on it. It's no big deal. That's what the homeowners wanted. I just want people to know that it will effect the performance of the sound in the room. You do such a good job I can see people copying it. They should know that they probably shouldn't. We've considered teaching classes over at the local design schools (university). Designers have messed up so many home theaters. It makes me sad.
Dude I feel like you should get into the "finishing" business for new construction homes. Or maybe become a home builder. At least we know the quality will be spot on.
Man is that 1/8" directly on the wall? How much telegraphing do you think will show once it's finished? That's thiinnnnnn AWI standards usually 1/4" min directly on gyp and it's for a pretty good reason - just talking from a commercial stand point, highly recommend beefing those bad boys up and throwing up some real paneling
Not to mention any globs of construction adhesive will likely telegraph or bow those panels out enough to show up in reflective finish. Again, a master carpenter shouldn't be doing this :D
The contractor AND the designer did your client dirty here. Not just the ceiling being out of level, but the flat panels in a theatre room. MDF absorbs more mid frequencies than anything else, and it's still a flat panel that will bounce sound back directly instead of diffusing it. It's a media room that looks great, you guys did an awesome job, but it will sound poor.
Board and baton isn’t really high end to begin with and I’m guessing the owner didn’t want to pay to move the lights even though it’s stupid easy and would’ve looked better and then the boxes around it would’ve also been better spaced. If the owner wanted it more high end looking he would’ve went with picture molding and boxes not touching with squares at the bottom and vertical rectangles above. I’m guessing it’s all going to get painted so that will help a little.
Man that ceiling was terrible. Would it not have looked better to have the bottom of the crown sit level on top of the 1x6 and scribe to the ceiling instead of having the taper on the 1x6? Seems very obvious.. maybe paint will help
Tom even dresses like a carpenter? I am little older than Tom and my entertainment at work is watching carpenters with 4 pockets run around looking for everything they hv here & there ? Oh and they surfer shoes are great until u drop a 3/4 “ MDF panel corner on your foot ? There R several reasons why Tom is a master carpenter? Richard ?
It's sad these days. I've been working on multi million $ homes since the mid 90s. The framing of the homes has gone down in quality, drastically! These days, I treat everything like a remodel. It's just that bad😔

A nice inset panel molding would make those panels look so much better . Nice job tho

Praying for you and your family and all of Texas.

I believe based on what Richard said, the whole room is going to painted the original dark color again. All the detail will all be washed away.
I love the quality of your work.....love the content......just wish you could post more of it.......keep up the grade A work brother.......I wish I had someone like you to train me
I'm glad to see you still using the Metabo. I use their entire line up for nailer guns, extremely satisfied 💯
Nice work, and a nice recovery on the ceiling gap.................. Be proud, that's why finish " carpentry " is a talent to behold !!
this video is awesome loved it thanks for sharing. Could you tell me how exactly you lock nail your pieces just shoot at an angle into the piece butting up against?
Richard as usual your work is impeccable, sad to hear that homeowner is having issues so soon on a newly built house. Again beautiful work 👍
I would color the top trim the same as the ceiling color to help loose the obnoxious ceiling line. Love your vids lads.
Great video. I'd like more detail on the lock nail method and how you extend jams to match the thickness of the MDF panels. Thanks!
Looks awesome. I'm not up to speed on modern design, trying to understand if the goal is to cover the heavy texture, is the panel basically an alternative to skim coating?
Probably saves a crap load of labor, and MDF paints like a dream.
After skinning the walls with 1/8th MDF, how do you handle the casing around windows and doors? Rabbets? Thicker materials and butt joints?
Bro ever since u went PASSION FOR KRAFT ur in a level of ur own!
Amazing work dog!!
I think i would get annoyed by the light fan. its sounds quite loud in the video. how is it working with it?
Hey bro, what kind of nails did you use to nail the MDF to the walls? Thanks

Wow, that room is AWESOME
Does Panel cause door jamb to be short by 1/8 inch? Door casing and jamb will have 1/8 gap. You caulk that?
Crazy !!! Million plus and build problems 😢 room looks great !!

Looks great I hope you show us the finish painted job.
How did you attach mdf sheets to the walls?
Man, I miss those Texas horizons that stretch on forever. Great video too!
I’m not gonna lie to you, Richard that scribe was beautiful
I was doing crown in a condo that had a 1 1/4 inch difference in the ceiling over 15 feet.
What would be your go-to waterbased primer for raw MDF?

What thickness of boards are you using? I’m struggling to find half inch material that’s nots rounded over.
Good job Mr I do carpenter for long time but still I want to learn more
I’m a little confused, why does it have a subtitle at 00:28 “us getting fired by the designer.”?
Ran into the un even ceiling in my spare bedroom. Decided to just take the top rail down a few feet rather than try to make it look pretty. Feel your pain. Learned to use a level first rather than after to check if walls are straight 🤬
CA glue out of stock for 2oz n 8oz bottles. When do you expect a new supply?
Love the Monstermaxx shirt!!
Love Richard’s sense of humour 😂😂
Been noticing you using the Metabo Brad guns, how have they been working out..??
How did you fix the door jams because doesn’t The wall stick out farther than the door jams
You had me going with that opening. I was so confused for a minute.
Which Voltrex light version is that please?
Oh my🙄 can’t believe that was so far out of level. Only way to semi-hide that is to paint all the same color. Great job as always!
good job clean and beautiful you are the best El mas chingon in USA
Was this a southern California New Home Build ?
Texas
I use 1/4 mdf inch because its stable once its glued in you can nail to it. 1/8 is to flimsy
Awesome work as always!
Nice boots Tom! What brand are the boots?
Wolverine❤🎉 one of many. Different pair everyday

Wait, the same framers build multi-million $ homes AND production?!? Huh, who knew….
Pretty work on the trim carpentry, nice!
That looks awesome.
Every good carpenter throws a level/laser to check existing before working
4th panel could have been centered a little more @ 15:43.. overall looks great!
Was this one days work?
Why didn’t you pocket screw in this situation?
That was a great informative install, I have a project that i'm doing is a historical project and would like your opinion

Great solution. My house has terrible walls. Leaned something!
I missed him making these in house builds
Dude I feel like you should get into the "finishing" business for new construction homes. Or maybe become a home builder. At least we know the quality will be spot on.
Sometimes going “with” the room is better than keeping everything PLS (plumb, level, square).
Or at least find a happy medium
how would you solve that problem with an actual piece of crown?
nice job done
With the basement ceiling that far out of level, a marble would roll like a soapbox derby car on the first floor!
Imagine doing all that beautiful work to make your theater room sound worse.
Richard's work looks great but yes there's zero acoustic panelling! The sound is gonna bounce all over the place 😭
Mdf should absorb sound. It’s literally wood pulp.
A new build with knockdown texture??
Time to build!
First texas home?
😂

Where is John
@12:15?
We run into slabs that are not level, making the top plates and ceilings unlevel. Maybe that’s what was going on here.
The base looked fairly parallel to the floor.
All this room needs is a John Wick poster.
Guys a festool sellout now 😂

Agree, put was probably the home owner's decision. When it all gets painted the original dark color all the detail will be muted anyway.
This is one the job you done that I don’t like, the way you make it it’s way different than your high quality jobs !!!

LOL Done no video!

$1 million +…more trash new construction. Stop rewarding these garbage home builders.
The quality on these new builds is terrible. On the bright side it's keeping me busy going in behind these builders fixing the issues
Hmm, I’m not fat I’m diffused…
But why mdf?? just the whole build makes more questions than answers
You used MDF to no fill and sand the wall WTF are you suppose to be a premium finish carpentry
