The thing with the finger key for Mr.3 was he does NOT know what the key looks like BUT he uses his power to mould his finger to the shape of the grooves and cuts and the pins in the keyhole so he can just adjust his finger shape whilst it is inside the keyhole

his voice was perfect, you can feel the malevolence, the arrogance and the utter rage inside of him.
Well duh!!! Up to this point we saw luffy as just the typical mc with plot armor and can't really loose, so seeing the goshdarn mc get poked like that and don't see him for like 10+ episodes was worrying!!! Like this is the scene that basically said that luffy don't have use power of friendship, and that oda ain't afraid to give these shocking scenes where the mc just loses and will die almost immediately 💀
18:07 - Crocodile was saying "you will never BEAT me" but Luffy punched him in the mouth and cut him off, then goes onto mock him saying "Peat?" , that is why he gets ticked off even more
Key point in this fight is that Crocodile thinks the whole thing is a waste of time, thinks there is no way to beat his sand sand fruit powers and thinks Luffy won't last 3 minutes , yet Luffy keeps coming, and making fun of him .. That's why he gets so annoyed.
Crocodile is the first main saga villain in one piece that makes you go "Yeah. This guy doesn't mess around".
Seeing how Baroque Works is the second saga and Crocodile the second main saga villain, this feels like a dig at Arlong even though I know it isn't one.
@@josephdavis9234 Lolol no. I love Arlong. Dude's cool haha. But I remember watching this for the first time as a relatively new one piece fan at the time and going "Damn. I didn't see that coming". Was mortified lol.
If you look back at the Arlong fight it never really feels like Luffy is gonna lose. In fact it more seems like if Zoro had been healthy he would have been more than enough to beat Arlong.
This is Luffys first opponent it never feels like he had a chance against.
And also directly tells you to us audience "Welcome to Grand Line kiddos! Now do me a favor, and die"
@@josephdavis9234 Arlong was cool , but no real threat to Luffy . Hell no disrespect to both , but a non injured Zoro could still beat him . Hell he feared Zoro , for good reasons . Croc is the very first time Luffy was really in danger , and not just in jeopardy because stuck somewhere or protecting someone .
This is Luffy's first real big loss, till now it never seemed that far fetched for him to beat all the villains he met, but here? A whole different level.

And it marks him for a long time. He gets a huge reaction every time the concept of Warlord is mentioned after that. "God" doesn't faze him, but learning that Jimbei or Hancock is a warlord? That makes him react ten times more strongly.

For example, there's that guy who rides a bike on water, and we clearly see that the ice doesn't fade unless he wants It to.
honestly, while that scene at the end is pretty shocking for the viewer, ive always appreciated it a LOT for the georgeous art direction and especially the sound design. the way sudden silence, the viewer thinking "huh? why is it so quiet?" to crocodiles (honestly unfairly sexy😭) voice, to the dripping of the blood and slowly, the sounds of the winds coming back - its genius. i adore that scene!!!! even though its pretty fucked up how luffy is like. basically being skewered...

Smoker is one of my favourite "enemies" of our crew. Also, appreciate and really soak in Zoro's laugh, it's a special thing.
Luffy vs Crocodile in the desert was the moment we truly found out that there are people whose ability makes them stronger than Luffy. Smoker was just the introduction to Logia, Ace gave us a glimpse of what it can do and Crocodile is the first to show what it can do in the wrong hands. The way the powersystem is laid out is just another one of Oda's masterfully crafted story telling devices.
Crocodile is such a great villain, he's so scary.
Also the reason Crocodile wants to keep attacking Yuba because it is an oasis and if it isn't ruined there will be water for the people and they wouldn't be so despereate without the rain.

I've always interpreted Crocodile's worried face when he first tanks the bazooka as him getting a read on how strong Luffy is.
He can't hit him, but evidently Luffy's swinging hard enough that getting hit would be something to worry about.

This episode perfectly puts the fear of the 7 warlords are to our protagonist at this point. One of my favorite episodes, can't wait to see yall finish the rest of Alabasta!
Oda rarely gets to flex his prose since he mostly writes dialogue and our main characters are usually not the poetic type, so when he writes as the narrator he usually drops some good lines I like that you noticed this.

The crazy level of world building and detail is what makes all these fights seem so much heavier. Just knowing the little details leading up and what everyone has been through 100% makes the fights incredibly satisfying when they conclude

The manga version of the Bananagator sequence was slightly funnier in my opinion. After Smoker pointed out the one with the key it cut away entirely, and we didn't see what actually happened until the next chapter. Instead we got the part where Crocodile revealed the key was fake, and then the cliff hanger was him coming back to the room to find everybody gone and just Mr 3 and Sanji's note left behind.
The D on Monkey D. Luffy stands for 'dead'.

In the first English dub, the one made by 4Kids, Luffy commented like "Deserto Girasole" looked like a "Desert Toilet" so Crocodile replied that Luffy was "Desert Doodoo" as he was the one in the desert toilet

Fun fact, if you confuse about why Luffy can't touch crocodile? Because that passive skill from devil fruits type logia, and power from devil fruits is element power, like devil fruit ace's "devil fruit type fire" or devil fruit smoker's "devil fruit type smoke". And devil fruit crocodile is devil fruit type sand.
It basically like we trying grabbing water, air, or any material that physically cannot be touched. Easiest example is T-1000 from Terminator 2, you keep shooting it but it keeps reform again and again.

To answer your question about "Why Yuba?" we only have to acknowledge one universal truth in the One Piece universe. Crocodile is just the pettiest bitch to ever sail the seas. He goes out of his way to torment others and express his disdain for people in general and especially those who have, in his view, naive ideals. His actions have made it clear that he has a chip on his shoulder about people and relationships in general that hints at some kind of event in his past; you guys have gotten a few showings of this so far. Just to name a few that have already happened :
1. He immediately issued that assassination order for Mr. 3 just because Sanji gave him a "false report" when he said the Unluckies had been some Strawhats that had a bit of fight left. Not to mention he equated an incorrect report with "lying" to him.
2. He purposely structured his Alabasta takeover plan to revolve around getting the citizens and the government to kill each other out of love for their country.
3. He taunted Vivi and pretended to give her some hope of saving the Strawhats by presenting them with a challenge; but with a fake key.
4. He straight up told Luffy that relationships just cause you problems and it's better to cut off such things.
5. Yuba - It may have initially been tactical because it was an oasis for that region of Alabasta but, once he'd ruined it enough that it was just Toto left, I think he was doing it specifically out of spite for Toto's unwavering faith in King Cobra and his determination to not give up no matter what. He probably sees Toto's perseverance as an eyesore to him and his plans.
So yeah, in short, Crocodile is one of the pettiest and most bitter pirates to sail the seas and his main source of joy for his shriveled, sandy heart is making it everyone else's problem.

Crocodile is one of the most impressive warlords, getting chills by his evil voice. Only the last warlord is so awesome evil that kills it all in this saga

The final little monologue by Crocodile in this episode is one of my favorites in the series. "Who do you think I am? There are any number of rookies like you who are all talk here in the Grand Line." It's such an important turn in tone and stakes. From now on, if you don't take a fight seriously, you could die. Don't get distracted.
Always nice to see Sanji get his flowers.
