When I was a kid I read Tom Browns nature observation and tracking books and took them everywhere. It had a huge impact on my life and capabilities in the wild. It helped keep me alive in my profession and to this day is part of my situational awareness toolbox.
I read "The Tracker" when I was in high school 40+ years ago. I have many of Tom's books. My favorite is his tracking manual. Tom Brown is an exceptional man! I can see how he could have had such an influence on someone!
I could not ask for a better presentation....especially regarding the most important spiritual aspect of the heavenly survival of one's eternal soul!!! For sure being covered by the blood of Jesus and applying His principles for living in combination with using the other down to earth survival skills is the ultimate skill set to help people survive and ultimately win souls to Christ. EXCELLENT JOB AND GOD BLESS YOU!!!!👍✝️👍🛐
Brother John,,, this is a conversation for a pot of coffee and a campfire,,, First of all,,, thank You for all these resource’s 👍 Also,,,Thank you for being transparent and sharing from your heart,,,, Joshua
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and efforts on these Survival Books. I collected them from the start when they were hard to find, but then they flooded the shelves with them, it became difficult to find credible sources. I first started reading Tom Brown when I was in grade school and it became a part of me. Your efforts you put forth are great! I love the faith based approach, I was unaware of them. This world is seething in corruption and evil and it is refreshing to find a brother in Christ! Sorry so long.
Recently bought a book. And the shop lady had one she modified. She had a clear cover on it and made it a spiral. She charged me 6 bucks to do the same to mine. She even gave me the name of the shop that does it. When I got it home went through it and was amazed. Found a recipe opened the book folded the other section over and went straight to work hands free. Did not have to waste printer paper and ink printing the page because the book would not stay put. Loved it so much that my best love books taking it in to have it done the same way.
You are absolutely right I'm just throwing this in here for right now it's very late and I need to get some sleep but this popped up so I will add to this so don't comment back on this because I'm sure I'm not through yet but I'm sure glad you brought this up see you in the morning.
Very good overview. You pointed out things I have never considered when selecting a book, be they physical characteristics, content, and application. I don't play around with books. I have a fair library of keepers in many, many subjects and get hype when I see books being mistreated by anyone in my home. Books are what opened up my mind way beyond my immediate environment while growing up. I was constantly reading. Sadly, I don't really do that as much anymore and currently have a dead tree backlog I need to get through. I appreciate the additional recommendations of your favorites. Will put those on my list.
I have had to thin out my library many times over the years, donations to local schools and public libraries. But I still have a lot of life time keepers. I never appreciated "reading" until my sophomore year in high school. Mr. David Wilken was my literature teacher. "HE" was the KEY! A Vietnam Veteran that survived the siege of Khe Sanh. His "odd" sense of humor and passion for the written word was infectious. He opened infinite worlds to me. Even though the vast majority of my library is non-fiction, I credit Mr. Wilken for my pursuit of written knowledge. Have a fantastic weekend!
Ardent Survivalist/Prepper/Patriot here: I have my collection of Survival Manuals, and I always peruse the book stores for such, evaluating each offered book by its content, illustrations, paper and print quality, etc. The greatest challenge I face regarding Survival Manuals is: will it ( the book)captivate a young person’s attention and imagination, and cause them to want to actually practice the skills put forth in the book. I am a former Wilderness Survival Instructor now retired... a rapidly disintegrating world is my grandchildren’s reality. A Survival manual for them is my quest.
Very good video John and I have already sent for the top two on your list. Another good resource for preparedness is the LDS Preparedness Manual book#2, gives ideas on quantities needed for the numbers in your household. God bless you.
Hi there brother, I just wanted to say that You are a breath of fresh air in the way you present your video's. like you said about the writing of Cody Lundin, its like having a conversation. As an Agnostic I do not share your believes but I respect the fact that you have them. Keep sharing your knowledge the way you do and I for one will keep following you. Thank you for being there.
Thank you Brother! I was an agnostic for a long time and I'm proud to this day that I was. I knew far to well of all that I did not know and I remained open to the vast possibilities of this world. Then, that changed for me. I'm am grateful that it did. I had to travel my path and experience all that I did before I was ready to make the decision that I did. We all have our paths we must travel. It's what makes us who we are. I'm comfortable with being me. I do things my way regardless to how the "trends" are going. Or doing "what I'm Suppose To Do" in order to be successful on this platform. I love to share what I know as I know it as flawed as it may be to some. I also getting the opportunity to converse and in some way meet good real people like you. It Is A Blessing To Me! I'm grateful to have you as a member of my Boonedockery Family and I pray we get to know one anther better over time. I pray you have a very blessed evening! Peace be with you my friend.
In reading the comments here, I've noticed a pattern of folks posting that they are new to the channel. I also just found this channel and subscribed within my first viewing of your L.B.E. video. For some reason UA-cam popped the link into my feeds (which was a surprise). I thoroughly enjoyed that video and all of the videos that I've viewed since that first encounter. I wish you much success and all the best. May GOD bless you and yours during these trying times!
Thank You Very Much! I am truly blessed in many ways! Any successes that I enjoy, I owe to HIM! May God Be With You and Yours as well and Bless You Always!
love the side notes and conversation. comes across almost as a full blown conversation with you. it's fantastic. please don't stop doping that. great review of books and your own personal take / viewpoint... and as a gluten for punishment (lol) the links were 'known' :)
YHWH bless Dr. Jason Hunt! And YHWH bless you as well, John! Thank you for sharing not only skills and info, but part of your life as well, which includes your faith.
This is an informative and awesome video brother John 👏👏👏and I can’t thank you enough for the gift of Dr Hunts book it has became my favorite as well my friend…. One of your qualities I have respected and admired since the day I met you is your straight forward and unrelenting HONESTY thank you for that my brother it is becoming a very rare quality in people and no matter what happens in this world you my friend will always be my brother!! God bless you and the family and thank you for sharing this 😁👍❤️🙏🙏😊🇺🇸🇺🇸
Brother Jay, Any words I have are inadequate to reply to this comment adequately. You have been, are and will always be my dear friend Brother! God's love and blessings be upon you and yours!!!
I can say God Bless Jason Hunt but I'm watching this 1 Year after you published it. But I am compelled to look up some of these books tonight on Amazon.
They are some good one's, by far, not a definitive list, but it's a good basic start. I will be posting a follow-up video in the near future. This one will be a little more gritty.
30 seconds in, laughed out loud. Had to stay to hear the rest. Thanks for the laugh and reminder. I've always preferred a hardcopy/analog. Digital sucks.
Really Awesome Collection 🤩👍🏻 2 of them flittered my heart as they pointed to the love of my life ☝🏻✝️🕊️🇺🇸 God bless you brother and the writer of The Gospel of Survival 😉 I now have a couple AWESOME gift ideas for a few fella’s 👍🏻❤️🔥🙏🏻🤟🏻
I'm glad you liked the video Miss Donna! I want you to know I received your wonderful card. It was deeply appreciated and I will be writing you back just as soon as I can. Things are still a little crazy, but getting better. Much Love And Blessings To You My Dear Friend!
@@boonedockery7220 awww, I am most thankful it could bring a bit of comfort please no worries on writing as I know all too well how life gets changed drastically of free time as well as energy. My heart rejoices in your kind words here as my heart and spirit continue to remember you and your family daily in both thought and prayers 💯❤️🔥🙏🏻🤟🏻☝🏻🕊️ He is faithful
Read and practice. Put bug out bags together, put kits together for the whole family. If you have like-minded neighbors, pull resources together because there is only strength in numbers. Research different sources for heating/cooking, power/electricity/electronics, firearms/training(proficiency), security(devices, patrolling, perimeters), water(procurement, purification, storage, usage, containers), communications (handheld, mobile CB, shortwave), first-aid(CPR, treatment, supplies, medications, antibiotics, etc.), food(procurement, storage, nutritional), I could go on and on.
I have found that Dave Canterbury has been 'early to the party' with his sound books on survival. That said, Mors Kohanski and Horace Kephart have been timeless resources for survival in the woodlands. Being a 'Prepper' can only get a family so far: to the end of their supplies. Creating a survival ecosystem like Shawn James shows on UA-cam or like Amish communities used to do is a long-term survival strategy.
Brother James Mors Kohanski and Horace Kephart are souls that were born to the wilderness. They could live and thrive in the wild better than most people can exist in the suburbs with every comfort of modern "Life"! I mentioned that true survival has to be the culmination of many factors working together. The absence of any one of them can negatively influence the rest! Once all of these factors/skills/disciplines are present and work in conjunction, it's no longer survival, it's LIVING.
Thank you brother for giving this information I have 4 of the 6 books that you recommended I am working on the other 2 But again God-bless you And I do agree That it's what ever makes the country work Not all the other stuff Love you brother
Thanks brother Jason Hunt in Christ , I appreciate you sharing and being open about your Faith , I’m a Christian and it was cool that out of the list of survival books you have one that is faith based , that is the one I’m most interested in , Stay the Corse my friend God Bless you ✝️🙏
❤ loved this Brother! I’m so proud and happy we share this faith, this wonderful life and these activities! About half way through Dr Hunt’s amazing book- love his testimony and his insight into biblical callings to honor God through being prepared and remembrance of salvation through preparation. Great read! Thank you and thank you for your continued commitment to provide this necessary and timely content. Love you Brother; God bless you and all of your resource providers.
AMEN! Thank You Very Much Brother! I existed for a very long time, now, I LIVE "Thanks Be To God"! Dr. Hunt has to be an anointed man. I would love to meet him someday! Much Love To You And Your Family Brother!
Thank You! Fellowship Can happen In Many Ways. God has blessed me with this platform to enjoy fellowship believers all over the world. "The Church" was never intended to be a building. Blessings my friend!
Thank you... Funny thing is like when you said they see the survivalists on TV... I watch them walk past true survival forage to hunt certain things to eat... If they were really trying to survive they would be foraging everything they could while being mindful of the sustainability of the forage... But they would be collecting as much as they would need to sustain their minds and bodies so as to truly be efficient in their survival situation... Most importantly they should know, "to be aware is to be alive". I appreciate that you have been kind enough to share this and give your advice and sharing your thoughts and preferences on this one... As with all your videos... Keep doing what you do!!! Much love to you and yours from me and mine...
Thank You Damien! I think you nailed it on the importance of foraging (which is a skill that must be learned and practiced frequently)! Love and Blessings Be Upon You And Yours!
Such wise words about electrics,I say exactly the same to everybody,I was lucky ,born in a familly of fishermen, countryfooks and poachers,I bought a lot of trapping and survival books back in the 80s,and used them very well...have to say I was a good trapper at the age of 12,and working with earth- and running dogs, btw one of my fav writers is Ragnar Benson, who is to this day a kind of mystery..thanks a lot for this video....grts from the Netherlands....forgot to say my brother wrote the first crisis survival book here...only 15 years ago !
GOD BLESS JASON HUNT!! Thank you Boone, for all you put out there for us. May the Lord Bless and Keep you also. PS- I just found you recently, but I've been bingeing :)
I made it all the way! God Bless Jason Hunt. I have a haversack made by the crew at Jason's; well made. NEVER loan books or tools. People forget about them, lose them, break them, and NEVER offer to replace them! Tom Brown - some good stuff, though it is doubtful he ever did all the stuff he claimed. There is good info in the Books of Buckskinning published by Scurlock Publishing, the originator of Muzzleloader magazine, now owned by Historical Enterprises. While not intended as typical survival style books, they do show lots of early American skills. Also like material by John and Geri McPherson. they lived quite primitively in their normal life. IIThessalonians 3 says if a man won't work, neither shall he eat. I also think of the virgins waiting for the wedding. Some didn't carry enough oil, then wanted the ones who did have enough oil to give them some. They could not do so because if they did, then they would not have enough. The Isrealite nation often had to go into battle, and God was with them as long as they did as He commanded. God could have defeated their enemies by Himself, but He required action of His people.
Daniel, Thank you for this comment! I know I could enjoy hours of conversation with you! From the Scurlock Publishing sources you sited You no doubt know of Mark A. Barker. Perhaps even Gerry Barker? I would add the periodical "The Backwoodsman" and the "Foxfire" book series. I Love The Scripture You Referenced! Multiple times throughout the Old Testament God Prepared His Children Even In Combat, When his children listened they thrived! When they didn't not only did they suffer but so did their ancestors, for generations! God Bless You Daniel! Proverbs 27:12
@@boonedockery7220 I always looked forward to Baker's articles. I met him somewhere; there was some event being held where some craftsmen were set up. It was raining, and I was wearing a garbage bag for a raincoat. Saw a couple of guys walking toward me, and one was Mark Baker. They suggested I a get a knife from a knifemaker there from Alma, IL. I pulled out a knife I had just purchased from him. Was glad they approved. They got a kick out of my raincoat, but that was one of the tricks I learned from outdoor books. I subscribe to Backwoodsman and have the Fofire books. All great material. Also love the videos that featured Mark Baker. I think it was Pioneer Video. Now, Gerry Barker sure sounds familiar! I know that name. I was just searching for a living history historic site I thought was near Nashville. Can't find it on the internet, but it was right off I40. There was a Kmart at the exit. I wonder if he didn't work there some, and if he had a farm in KY?
@@debluetailfly Mark lives not far from Nashville and Gerry lives in southern Kentucky. Mark and I co-stared in the History Channel documentary "Boone and Crockett: The Hunter Heroes. He was Crockett and I was Boone. I think it aired in 2001? Be fore I met Mark, I had already bought all of his VHS videos and subscribed to Muzzeloader specifically to read Marks articles.
@@boonedockery7220 I will have to see if the library has Boone and Crockett on DVD. It was about $55 on ebay. I haven't watched a lot of Hollywood Movies. I remember watching a video at the Cowpens Battlefield and recognizing a few of the actors from Muzzleloader mag. Another great book is Alex Stewart: Portrait of a Pioneer. Author is John Rice Irwin, founder of the Museum of Applalachia, Alex lived in the 20th century but lived pretty primitively compared to many. Fascinating how they got by. Tipper Pressley of the Celebrating Appalachia channel recently completed a series of videos in which she reads the book. I downloaded it so I have an audio book in addition to a paper copy.
Good mindset.👍🏽Thanks for the interesting book recommendations. Can you give a book recommendation for climbing and rope techniques? I would be interested in how to safely rappel in difficult terrain, belay myself and another person without having to leave the rope behind.
I have the Army manual which is good but dry as dust. I may also have a couple more but they would be 10+ years old. I'll have to look and go through them again to see if they are worthy of recommendation.
I have watched your whole video but in parts, but I watched it all. Cody's books are good but his style is a bit rough for my taste. The information is worth putting up with his language. My bible that I just read is the John MacArthur study Bible. In my lifetime I'll never preach on all the books, chapters, and verses, but I want to know and understand them all - Well as best I can. Thank you for giving of yourself. Blessings, David.
Jesus in particular saw beyond the crudeness of an individual and saw there heart. As a lump of coal will eventually become a diamond, a person of good heart can cast aside their life long ways and receive salvation. The truth remains but will be retold in a civil tongue. In a "Godly" manner. I have taught for 32 years and I have witnessed the roughest of stones be crafted into beautiful gems through the grace and glory of God. Their personal truth and story is still valid but now can be spoken in testimonies that will resonate with those that have either sat on or fallen off the back side of the fence. I have faith that God will prepare his children in many ways. Even through unconventional sources. I pray that Cody finds that survival is merely awful existence without God's salvation through Jesus Christ. Blessings be upon you and yours my dear friend and brother!
Had a thought, maybe you mentioned and I missed it. “ If” a person really likes a certain book that is unfortunately not very robust, they can purchase rite in the rain copier paper and make a copy of the book. Most of these books aren’t that many pages and a 500 sheet count pack of rite in the rain brand copier paper is around $80. Probably some less expensive choices. Thanks maaan. Appreciate the message.
Personally I have four special books that I rely on the first two are the Lost ways volumes 1 and 2 and the other two are the Lost remedies and there are a few more that I have but those are just four off the top of my head but if had not mentioned the Bible being the last book that you were talking about I was going to shut this thing down and never watch you again you restored my faith and you that is. There may be an edit to this and here it is. I'm not going to put that phrase down because I know God has blessed you I can tell I have plenty plenty of books let whatever one may have gone to me go to someone who might really need it. Besides I never win anything anyway so I try not to enter. Anyway thanks for the video it was a uplifting video and I hope that's what you were striving for because that's what happened to me. At any rate thanks again for the video always remember stay vigilant my friend!
Great video you got a new subscriber. I hope I don't need this info but my mind tells me I will. This world is going crazy no kidding and it's only a matter of time. My biggest fear is that it may be a situation involving nuclear war and I hope that's not the case as most won't survive that outcome.
I'm with you. I'm a cold war veteran. After I got out of the Army, I was a full on survivalist until the Soviet Union collapsed. Now, I'm a prepper, homesteader, and bush crafter. I've realized that if we have an all out nuclear war, their is little hope for survival. Even if you're a multi-billionaire with the most high speed bunker in the world, you can't escape the radiation and the affects of it. They would spend the rest of their lives in that hole. Possibly for generations. My faith in the Word leads me to believe that we won't have to endure that. Perhaps a limited exchange somewhere, but not nuclear holocaust. I found that survivalism is not the "Break Glass In The Event Of A Survival Situation". It's living the way you will survive. Long Term. My wife calls it "Surthrival". Welcome to the family! Blessings to you and yours!
Another topic that’s never addressed, is situational awareness. What that means is, paying attention to what is going on around you. So unbury your eyes from your phones, you folks know who you are.
all media files rely on power if by chance a outage cause a emp style burst then all devices become dead weights. also a book will dry out a phone will die unless you have the best way to recover them. books have a smell and a feel that give warmth unlike a cold device that just shows a screen. also some media storage require internet oe cell phone tower to allow the cloud to view the files.
I am going to get the Gospel of survival it sounds like awesome book and yes me and my family believe in God and I love my bushcraft survival and my bushcraft survival book's. I think God is pushing me back into bushcraft survival again and I am loving what God is doing for me and I want to start teaching my grandchildren and others about bushcraft survival I havenet done this since I was a kid I am getting back into into again and loving it
God is exposing the world for what it is and he wants us to open our eyes and prepare ourselves and loved ones to cope with forthcoming events. There are multiple examples in the Bible when God helped his people in many different situations. He Is A Good, Good Father!
I would recomend Samuel Thayer's wild edible books. I'm a collector of tracking books. Perhaps the most important being Tactical Tracking Operations by DSD. In the field craft world everything is not on line yet. You really don't know shit if you're only learning from the internet. Another shout out for S Thayer and mushrooms demystified
Thank you for these recommendations Nick! I will be looking them up! I chose only to pull out some of my "Survival" books. Sort of cover most things text's. I have A LOT of specific skills and subject based books as well.
Correction: Mushrooms demystified is by David Aurora. Has all the Mushrooms in the country, more detail on the edible ones than you'll find elsewhere. Not heavy on pictures, but that's not the way to ID Mushrooms.
P.S.,, as Your closing comments mentioned,, after you’ve done all , prepared all you can and helped as many as you can, along the way,,, it All Comes Down to your Personal Relationship with, the One who really Loves you, me and Us,,, Jesus the Christ,,, Thank You for,, not just another video,,, Blessing to You and Your Family,,,, Joshua
Thank You Joshua! Developing that relationship God and surrendering to his will, plans and timing will Bless every aspect in our lives. That relationship is the most important "prep" we can make! Proverbs 27:12 Only Through The Almighty Can We Have This Discernment!
I will definitely look up the Gospel of Survival. Sounds great. I have that same Patriots Bible. If you're looking to add to your library I recommend the books by author Craig Caudill
I deeply admire Jason Hunt. The Patriots Bible is one that I believe most of my viewers would appreciate. I will look up Craig Caudill. Thanks for the tip!
New subscriber as of last week and have watched several of your videos and enjoying your straight forward no nonsense delivery. You hit the nail again on this one, I switched to digital books for everything except for the things I want to ensure I have what I need to reference when the time comes. Have a few of the books you have there and will definately be looking at the ones you recommend especially The Gospel of Survival, I've told many God gave us a brain for a reason and expects us to use it. I would also recommend The Survival Medicine Book by Joseph Alton, MD and his wife Amy Alton, APRN. On another note I really like your patch, is there anywhere that it might be available?
I will definitely look for Dr. Alton's book. Email me your mailing address and I'll send one to you. I also designed and produced other patches. I have a couple videos on my channel about them. Just let me know how many of what you want, and I'll send them to you! My email is boonedockery1750@gmail.com . Proverbs 27:12
Hello! I am in Barbousville, WV. I feel like we may be close. Where are you located? Just recently found your channel and am watching many of your past videoes.
Shawn, The book was "Son's Of A Trackless Forest" written by Mark A. Baker. Mark and I co-stared together on the History Channel documentary "Boone And Crockett, The Hunter Heroes". Mark portrayed David Crockett, and I portrayed Daniel Boone. Mark wrote a personal inscription in it as well. Used ones are selling for $400+. If you could help me find a copy that I could afford, I would be indebted to you. Thank you for this kind offer Brother!
@@boonedockery7220 As you can imagine, I got super excited when I started seeing promising results for at least an online version/PDF version that a guy might print and make his own book from. As I went, I had discovered you actually already know where to find a copy! I found the link you posted in 2020 and someone asking from back in 2012 on another forum. Yep, they go for 400 to almost 700. It's an interesting read but I got electricity bills to pay lol. I searched local libraries and state catalogs. no find
Yep, I'm an Atheist. But I appreciate your wisdoms and recommendations. Though I disagree with the biblical justifications being a good thing, thankyou for the none judgmental words. Now just a few words on the biblical justifications for any scenario. It seems to me, not a great way for individuals to understand that God. This is why there are so many interpretations, denominations, Christian sects, cults...etc. The Bible does hold interpretations that are not morally adherent. There are scriptures that justify slavery (actually give the guidelines to own and beating slaves, justifications for greed, land theft, rape, child abuse, mass genocide, jealousy, fear, justifications for not planning ahead.
I do not follow any denominational interpretations. It's just me and the Bible. There are a few items in your list I have never read in my Bible (NKJ). I know there are many versions. As with my previous reply, the Old Testament was a rough read for me. Most of the items you listed are from the Old Testament. The New Testament is a very different critter! Have a great day my friend!
@boonedockery7220 you to, and thank you for not taking offense. Didn't Jesus say basically the law (old testament, law of Moses, Torah) was still valid and not one jot or tittle should be taken lightly? And isn't God the same yesterday today and forever? I guess my thing is, God was able to say don't wear mixed fabric or don't eat shellfish but couldn't say don't own people or beat up babies? Anyway, sorry that I keep challenging belief. It's just getting a bit crazy in the political world and how folks are legislating laws that infringe on others based of religious theocracy or doctrine, well its getting unnerving. You don't have to respond to my questions and I'll leave ya alone about it. You seem a genuine good person.

We have been pushed to this necessity by misguided, ignorant, arrogant people. They know not who their puppet masters are. Nor do they care.

Well said yes get out their and use your gear and practice your bushcraft survival skills
I'm a year late but God Bless Jason Hunt. I doubt you have any left but God bless you for sharing this valuable information. ❤
Thank You Brother! I Love You Too And God Bless You!

Good Luck and welcome to the family Blaine!

@@boonedockery7220 That might be interesting. Thank's again for sharing and effort.
God bless Dr. Jason Hunt!

BRILLIANT! I had not even thought of that. Thank You for suggesting that!
God Bless Jason Hunt!
Another topic that’s never addressed, is situational awareness. What that means is, paying attention to what is going on around you. So unbury your eyes from your phones, you folks know who you are.
I have plans to address this in a future video.
all media files rely on power if by chance a outage cause a emp style burst then all devices become dead weights. also a book will dry out a phone will die unless you have the best way to recover them. books have a smell and a feel that give warmth unlike a cold device that just shows a screen. also some media storage require internet oe cell phone tower to allow the cloud to view the files.
