I have my grampa's handiman books from the 60s-70s. AND do not forget the cookbooks and sewing books!!! My favorite recipes come from my mom and grama as well as several creators who specialize in period cooking. My favorite sewing book is one my mom used in highschool (50s) because it teaches how to make your own patterns, take in clothes, repair clothes and make the most important~~UNDERWEAR and BRAS
A BOOK ??? You Go Guy!!! Your channel is wonderful, especially since you basically just started. You are always spot on with your thoughts and lists. Thanks for being out there and sharing your info and opinions. Get books at antique stores, thrift stores, goodwill and salvation army. That is the section I run to when we go shopping. ML&BLSNGS:)
ML&BLSNGS:) Wishing you nothing but the best with your life and your aspirations. MD Creekmore has written books and published also. Hope you can do as well as he has. I know that your info will be informative and precise, that is why you have so many followers. We all need a book to take with us and you can do it with the material you give to us now. Take care, stay safe and keep on keeping on. :)
I have the original 3 volume set of Foxfire Books, my Special Forces survival and improvised weapons manuals, the Helpful Household Recipes book, and an out of print since 1920, Medicinal Plants and their uses (my Cherokee Medicine Woman Grandmother who taught me was a major contributor).
I’d DEFINITELY buy your book when it’s published, JR❗️Why❓Because your suggestions are always sound & you provide budget-friendly options when possible.
I have a lot of these books. But they are on my Kindle. I do know how to get them into PDF format. Maybe I should get busy with that. Thanks for sharing this with us. And I would love a copy of your book when you have it ready. Stay safe out there. 😊
I think a good gardening book would also be Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. Used watch his show PBS many years ago. Grow alot of food in small space.
When hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana the churches were preparing flood buckets for the aftermath. The government never came to most people. Thanks for your channel. We need to be prepared.
A good bit of kit to get is a small LED light that can be clipped to the book you are reading. I have one, and it came in handy when I had a power cut last year.
I have many of the books you have listed. But I also expanded to "all" topics of potential value. Including audiobooks, movies, entertainment, etc. I also have an EMP-protected tablet in the go bag loaded with Kindle copies. Thousands of items were downloaded and burned to media over the past few years. I will be known as the warlord librarian 🙂 I was thinking about no more Internet as the reason for doing this. Knowledge is and always will be power.
My dear friend I thank you are doing a god job i like the way you are talking about the young people and trying to turn the on to learn something uther then a video games i have made a living trapping before the fur market crashed and a lot of young people would come to see what I was skinning and alot of them thought what I was doing was gross they liked in education but I do thank you for the video
Another excellent Survival Manual by James Wesley Rawles is" The Ultimate Survival Guide". I bought it and learned some new things from it as a many years Prepper!
I have nearly the same library! I love the Foxfire books. The entire library of the Hesperian foundation is worth getting both physical and digital. All third-world solutions. Keep it up JR.
Great video as always count me in for a copy of your book for certain have learnt so much from you since I started my own journey thanks for everything you do
Another strategy is having barriers like raised beds in your front yard or a pond where you can slow the enemy down if they were to tear through your yard to get to your house. Another thing is every wall that you see could be a place where the enemy is hiding. Another thing is an obstacle that is not guarded is no obstacle at all. Such as a barbed wire fence, chain link fence, gate excetera somebody could eventually work their way through if it's not guarded.
The "Orange" Book ("Emergency Care of the Sick and Injured") was the standard text for EMT training. It is very much geared toward trauma, but will give you a good basic foundation.
I really appreciate your channel! So straight forward and basic. Yet the ability to go deep if wanted. You are the epitome of the American dream - keep the vids coming! PS Love Emerson’s books for the exact reasons you mentioned! Very good books!
Excellent content, as usual, JR. I love the resource guides you bring to light if and when the grid and internet go down. I suggest buying multiples in these type books, if possible. They will work well as barter items for family, friends and neighbors who may have not thought ahead of such scenarios. The unprepared will need this as well.
Thank you for the suggestions JR. I put a couple of those books in my cart. In a SHTF situation, I think there is one book that more people will be reading than any other.
JR. I feel most viewers trust your advice as it is clear and concise so I have a question. If someone has to slowly build their resource library, what would your top 3 picks be from all of your recommendations?
Thanks for replying to this person's very good question, JR! I wrote down your answer. I already have that medical book for when no Doctor is coming, but I'll take pains to get the other 2, & I'd be interested in one that you would author, since I like your style of communicating!
I am interested in your book! I appreciate the commonsense, putting it in printed form!! I bought that survival book that’s been circulating on social media for a long time, and allowed myself to get scammed into buying a bunch of other books, not realizing they were all digital. I wrote them back and told him how useful that will be, in a grid down situation. Lol! And what the heck 🤦🏼♀️
Another great resource is the NWS Skywarn weather training. There are classes in every state and it’s free! You get reference manuals as well as an identification card that is good for a couple years where the NWS may contact you to verify weather in your area.
Hi JR I have 2 books I recommend you get and they are called The Extreme Survival Almanac by Reid Kincaid and Knife and Axe Skills for Wilderness Survival by Bob Holtzman 😁😉
Great topic. Knowledge is power and paper & ink references work with or without power. Back To Basics (which is also a book) lol. Keep up the great work.
I prep because things DO happen. I have been a prepper since 1999 and have found myself happy that I was on 6 occasions when a storm or the pandemic were coming and I was not running around trying to get what I needed.
You make me smile a lot 😊 and based on the topics it is needed very often. We need to keep our sense of humor especially in bad situations, if not doom and gloom will tear us down. Can tell you are a teacher, it never leaves us 😏 your love for books is obvious. Looking forward for your book, one writer to another, make it your own 😊 it's what makes it special
I'm thinking the 3 most important books to have are: An all around medical book like Dr Alton & Nurse Amy wrote. Foraging for both edible plants and mushrooms, and Building & building repair. Hopefully it would include Solar installation, plumbing repair, or building your own septic etc. Those are my top three. I don't see myself being able to take more than that with me, and I know I need them!
As always, Great information! I just bought a book "Back to Basics: A Complete Guide to Traditional Skills" that covers several topics such as canning, dehydrating, fermenting, woodworking, blacksmithing, gardening, and more. Hope to see your book soon! If its anything like your channel, it will be awesome!
A smart person stays as far away from others as much possible during a SHTF situation,at least for a year, during that time the majority of people who makes a threat is gone.
Unfortunately there isn’t a book that covers everything. I would like to find books on topics like how to build a windmill for a well, how the cowboys made lasso’s and rope, how to create a wench with logs and rope, how to make a grape and oil press and how to process wheat and grain into flower. Seems like a lot but it makes you wonder how our fore fathers managed without a 7-11 or Home Depot
A good list - but I would add 'LIGHTS ON' by Jeffrey Yago. When it all boils down, if you have a way to power things, your in pretty good shape. This book is excellent! He also has written a few others that I intend to read. Also, not quite in the same vein, but about how fragile our grid is, is a book by Ted Koppel "LIGHTS OUT", excellent read on why our grid is vulnerable, would take a long time to fix (years), and how some people are preparing, I remember he talks to Mormons (the original preppers), and a wealthy man with a ranch in....I think Montana, who is very well prepared, and has his own community of ranch hands. I haven't read it in years, but should read it again. Very enlightening. If you read this and aren't a bit frightened/motivated, well.....

Forager's guide to wild plants is a good suggestion..
Thumbs up for support
Just bought the Prepper's Long-Term Survival Guide. THX
Thanks for watching!
Thanks, J R.
Well done, once again! You are wise beyond your years, young man .
Thank you JR ! I enjoy your survival series! Being prepared for all disasters is top priority, that should be on everybody's list.
Thank you David!
A book that I have is "Barbed Wire, Barricades, and Bunkers" by FJ Bohan. It's quite unusual.
That sounds fun!
Woohoo, I can't wait for your book to come out! You are one of my favorite youtubers on the preparedness topic.
Thank you Sherry!

Nice to see younger people planning and spreading their thoughts.
Oh yes do the book! I will surely get it. And I have ordered the Survival Medicine Handbook.

Thank you so muchbi was just wanting to get some books to have for when I'm off grid.❤
I think a good gardening book would also be Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. Used watch his show PBS many years ago. Grow alot of food in small space.
Always adding to the library here, JR! I admit to being a "bookaholic" LOL! Thanks, and best wishes to you!
Thank you Karl!
Thanks for the info
When hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana the churches were preparing flood buckets for the aftermath. The government never came to most people. Thanks for your channel. We need to be prepared.
Great list of books! Very helpful, thanks!
😊👍 "The American boys handy book" covers a LOT of stuff from toys to boats all made by hand with less than modern materials
A good bit of kit to get is a small LED light that can be clipped to the book you are reading. I have one, and it came in handy when I had a power cut last year.
Thanks for sharing Gavin!
Great Idea!
I would definitely be interested in a book if you write one.
Thank you Shelia!
Thank you JR

I recommend "putting food by". It has many different ways to prefer all different types of food, canning, freezing, cheese waxing, and more.
Scratch cook books. Medicinal wild plant book. Basic first aid.
I would read your book.

you forgot what we used before the Internet: a whole set of Encyclopedia Britannica 🤗
Great topic. Knowledge is power and paper & ink references work with or without power. Back To Basics (which is also a book) lol. Keep up the great work.
I am very interested!
Lots of good information. I didn’t know a lot of those books existed. Thank You!
