Yup, saved me about $200. It's a straight forward "R&R" thing, but it's great to have a bolstered confidence in my own ability from UA-cam University. Thank you
It may. Detonation can also be cause by using the wrong octane gas, a spark plug that's not gaped right or timing that may be off on the vehicle. Hope this helps you out.
The screw holes for the distributor cap are plastic tabs sticking out from the distributor. They don't strip, they break completely when you don't understand that and give just a little to much torque. I found the Dorman 90449 Distribution Repair Plate to help you when it happens. Mine is a 1998 C1500 with 5.0.
I just received a phone call asking $600 dollars to replace the distributor cap on a 1996 Nissan Sentra. This video makes it look simple enough to purchase the part and do it myself; why so expensive?
There is really no way for me to tell you if this is your problem but if you went to a mechanic they would be able to at least diagnose the issue and give you an idea of what you need to do.
My truck seems to run out of power, it will run fine sometimes. But others it will act like it's not getting fuel or spark. You can put your foot to the floor and it will rev but almost bounce and cut out. Sometimes it gets so bad it will not have enough power to move. I replaced the plugs with AC delco's and gapped them correctly and no change. I also have new plug wires on there too. Any ideas??
Hey thanks a lot for this rotor, and the way to take out the spark plugs from inside the wheel well (Nice one! Never thought of that way). So I have replaced cap&rotor, and spark plugs+wiresets before, but you made my job 100x faster & easier. I greatly appreciate that you show what you use and what sizes, That saved me a lot of time too! Thank you again :) So my question though that I'm hoping you can answer. My thermometer gauge inside the truck will bounce around from the normal temperature to the max temp. I changed my thermostat (didn't change anything), but I think it is a loose wire somewhere. When driving on a smooth highway the thermostat will go back to it's normal running temp, but when I hit bumps it bounces all around. Got any ideas?
thanks for the very good and informative video including the description on the spark plug order just what i was looking for all day...keep up the great videos
+Mario G Thanks for watching, glad we could help you with the repair! Any other viewers interested in the distributor cap please click the link: www.1aauto.com/1A/DistributorCap/Chevy/K1500-Truck/1AEDC00001?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&K4_Gr7hEw
Hi. I have a 1996 , GMC 5.7 L pick up truck. The check engine light has come on. I believe it's the distributor or ignition timing. I don't know how to fix it. I have some knowledge of repairing this, but just need a little guidance.
I have to do this now on my 97 tahoe because as I was replacing the plugs and wires, when you were holding up the cap at 1:52 you can see all the little plastic things sticking out that you push the wires onto, and while attempting to pull off the coil wire at the top left it pulled off that plastic thing sticking out with it along with the wire. Just my luck
how do I line up the cap properly onto the distributor on a v6 vortex 1999 4.3 Liter , I can't find a video on how to install the cap correctly, thank you
i have a 97 sierra that occasionly runs with a sputter... i take on the cap and the poles are all covered in a heavy residue. i have either replaced the cap and rotor button or just clean all the tips and the problem with reoccur in a few months time.... why?? bad ignotion coil not creating sufficiant current and leaving behing the residue? ir is it just moisture?
1A Auto Parts hey no problem thx for the reply. I managed to get it done yesterday with the help from this video. Thanks again you guys are extremely helpful.
hey I was just going to change my distributor cap and rotor today, because at 70 roughly 1800 rpms its got sort of a stutter, well I go to change them and where the front bolt(t20) goes into the plastic under the cap to close it off is busted, must've been my issue?? now how do I go about fixing that I don't really feel like taking the shaft out. please help!!
I have a 1999 4.8 lt Vortec GMC 1500 sierra that misses between 30 - 60 km and will do this up to 2 miles before it will shift in higher gear, after it gets passed 60 k its alright until 80 km then it starts again, sometimes, this happens every time on first start. When I leave work after 12 hrs it will do it again. I have replace fuel filter aslo its wire on coil for each plug so I replace all wires, computer only says that it has numerial misses, and spryed water on each coil to make it miss but this did not work, would not miss, only happens when truck has sat for 4 or 5 hrs. Any help would be apprectiated. thank you
If the cap is broke you can just replace the cap and rotor. If the plastic base is broke, you may have to check to see if it can be removed. It might be bolted into place. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
The torx screw on the rear of my distributor cap is stripped out should i just break the cap to remove it? Then get the screw out ?if i cant get it out i can clip the head out and zip tie it when i put the new one on ?i wonder if that will work?
+cartmanrlsusall You could try an ezout from Harbor Freight or your local parts store to try to back the screw out. If this does not work you might have to break apart the cap and piece it out. Just be careful when doing this that you do not damage the distributor. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
I HAVE A 1998 GMC sierra SLT 1500 5.0 V8 . NEW FUEL PUMP .PROBLEM THATS HAPPING IS SHE START UP NICE IF IT'S COLD OR WARM OUT.AFTER DRIVING HER TO THE STORE AND SHE SIT FOR ABOUT 30MIN. SHE WILL NOT START WITH THE KEY,I ALWAYS HAVE TOO PUT MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL, FOR HER TOO START.130,000 MILES ,I replaced WIRE & PLUGS ONLY.AND FUEL PUMP. ALSO PUT A NEW STARTER IN HER.I REALLY LOST MY MIND ON THIS.can you give me some tips???
It wouldn't hurt to replace the cap and rotor with a new one as these can wear out over time. They aren't very expensive, and may solve the issue if they are worn. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
I need Help...My Rotor cap screws i guess were installed years ago too Tight...I used 3 diffrent 15 star heads But the screws were stripped...Any idea how i can get these screws Out?
1A Auto Parts i am having rough idle and sometimes no start. but if i get out and tap the starter and it starts. i know this is a starter going bad but with the rough idle and misfire would that be due to bad distributor?
It might be. If there's a check engine light on you may want to pull the code to see what it's pointing to. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

If the cap is worn out, it would not allow voltage to go to the plug wires and then fire the spark plugs.
Thank you this really helped me when I needed to change it
