  • new foils, multiple stabs, so many combos to play with!!
    in preparation for my potential awesome session the following morning, I decide to try a quick sesh at Nahant with the new HA680 foil and my old 205 surf tail. that surf tail locks things in more than the 180 and 140, but I really haven't ridden it in months. in big waves, I like to be in control, and this 680 is the smallest foil I've ever ridden so it's playful and nimble, but how much of that was the tail? so this sesh was trying that out... yup, got stoked.
    gear ridden this sesh:
    75L v1 Armie FG board
    HA680 foil
    795 HM mast, 11 in track
    60 fuse
    205 surf stab (red & blue shims)
    4.5m v3 F-One STRIKE wing
    5:4 Mahulu Stormrider wetsuit
    Kaohi double coil grip leash & padded belt
    Solite 8mm Custom 2.0 booties

    Ive been riding the 580 with the 140 tail, its an addictive combination of speed and turning, but i hadn't considered trying the 205 with it so I'll definitely give it a go.
    Love your videos 👍

      sweet bud! I just got the 580 in the mail this week and it looks like I may have decent conditions to ride it on Monday. I think I'll start with the 205 with that and then continue to go smaller after. I love that 680 so I'm really excited about the 580. have you ridden both? the 580 has a slightly higher aspect ratio, I was wondering if you could feel that or not. more soon! I wish you an awesome weekend!

    Only riding the 880 these days 10-30kts wind and knee high to overhead crumbling waves. Switching between the 205 and 140. Love the 140 for being so loose and about 2 mph faster than the 205. However, the 205 is smoooooth… on a confused day with chop in multiple directions the 205 slows everything down and makes me feel like a super hero. I think the moat noticeable difference is in pitch. It feels almost impossible to loose pitch control with the 205. Anyway, love your videos, been watching steady for a while but don’t think I’ve commented before. Shred on!

      Thanks for the post bud! I’m also loving the 880. I’ve been riding the smaller ones lately cause I can but I’ll be back on it soon. It’s like Christmas getting a few new foils… opens up all the new combos and possibilities! But I’m glad I have tried the 205 cause I’m digging that combo. Super smooth ride. I don’t always need the 140! What do you shim them at?

    • @SnwbrdB
      @SnwbrdB 4 місяці тому

      I have tossed a shim in a few times and either conditions or my ability didn’t give an improved feel. My location isn’t super conducive to coming in to make adjustments and getting back to back tests.

    Awesome, as always, new front looks like it rips so small the 205 stab is a good combo idea .Those waves looked sick, Im missing waves so much. think i might go for a small front wing and follow your lead maybe the voloce high aspect ar of 9.6 for around 950cm2. i scared to go smaller.
    Great vid. I hope the Boston crew are all well 👍

      Thanks Chris!! I hope other brands make foils like this, cause they have a great amount of lift for their size. I tried the 580 today and I think it's a got a AR10.5 and that thing was awesome. before I used a HA725 and needed a ton of power to get going and stay up on it and this is such a different experience.
      Things are good here, taking the day off tomorrow (Tuesday) cause we have more waves that should be cleaner and I'm stoked to be on the 580 again. fingers crossed it all works out well. I wish you and your crew an awesome rest of your week!!

    I've mostly ridden the new HAs (1080/680) with the Dart + blue shim and really like it, but I just returned from a surf foiling trip and exclusively used the 205 + red shim. I was super impressed with how responsive all aspects were and didn't bother putting the Dart back on. Speed was still good and pumping back out to connect felt great too. 205 is definitely a great option for smooth, easy performance. The new HAs seem pretty happy with a variety of tails compared to the V1 HAs. Looking forward to the 580 review; the 680 gets going so early even for me at 90 kg/200 lbs.

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому +2

      Yes! Same experiences here, the only difference is I use an extra red shim, force of habit. But DUDE I demoed the 580 today with the 205 and already told my wing dealer to run the card. And then I moved all my meetings for tomorrow for round two. 580 is really nice. Feels faster. Still lifts good, I have no idea if the low end is the same or not, I was totally 🔥 on a 4.5m. Prolly covering them next week so stay tuned!

    Hey Jeremy , Mind blowing! Love it all. How about riding these new HA foils with a sinker board? You have decent waves and a decent size board to get you going. What are your thoughts on the challenges of getting a sinker board up to speed with these HAv2 foils? Thx and keep up the stoke!

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому +1

      sup bud! I have a sinker and look forward to trying it, but I don't do a lot of sinker riding in the winter. but since these new HAs have more low-end light than pretty much all the other Armstrong lines, so they should pair awesome with a sinker. I'll get to it soon... Spring is here and I'm missing the lower volume.

  • @Stanton_High

    Tripping me out how good those tiny HAs are foiling. Think I'm going to keep the 1125 as is for light wind, but now I'm torn, 880 680 or what. Wish I had a shop that would let me demo lol

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому +2

      yeah man they are pretty rad. I'd say both would cover all you bases, as that 880 will be closer to the 1125 and the 680 is maybe like the 1000. 780 is like your one-foil quiver like the 925 was for me. they may not have that top end speed but I'm impressed with everything else. I just got a 580 to demo, I hope to test that in the next week. more soon. I forget your weight but you'd prolly be stoked on a 680/1125 combo or a 680/880 combo.

    Hi bro 😎
    So I’m 85kg and I’ve heard people going from the 1850 (lol yep) straight to the ha780 and basically instant hero’s.
    More to the point. How easily did you find the 680 was to get going in low wind? At your weight. 🥂

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому

      Sup bud! I’m 77kg. The 680 has a crazy amount of lift for its size. Like same-ish as the ma1000. If you were gonna get just one, the 780 is a great choice, kinda like the 925 when that came out. It should be good for your size, even though you weigh slightly more. I just tried a 580 for the first time today as a ‘demo’ and already told my wing dealer I’m not giving it back. So you could do 780 and potentially get a 580 too at some point. Or the 880/680 combo is great for me so far. At least until I got the 580 today 🤦🏼‍♂️

    I've been using a KD Maui 14" Marlin tail lately, I think it's about 165 for comparison. It is fast and rips turns, great tail. I don't own the 205

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому

      the 205 is rippable but has some slight winglets or curve that gives it a little more of a locked in feeling. just enough to be a more solid rider. the KD Maui's I've seen are mostly flat, I've never actually ridden one, but my friend has used one for the past two years or so and loves it.

    do you prefer coil board leash over a normal one?

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому +1

      I do! I've pretty much only use coil leashes for my boards, using only regular 6' or 5' surfboard leash if I have an issue (I always have one in my bag as a backup. this one is a double coil, and so far has kept it's shape. I'm new to the calf leash thing... so far I'm digging it but it's mostly so I can ride with my wing on my waist vs my wrist. I wanna pass behind the back more so I made the change. I def recommend these Kaohi grip leashes... they have a grip handle at the back of the board that I think is a great feature.

    680 seems Tiny. Didn't know it was possible for anything other than tow foiling. Only the 4.5m wing? Sold all your old wings or your wife hiding your gear to keep you in check?

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому

      it's tiny!!! I just got a 580 to demo and I think I'll be in love. they have so much lift for their size.
      and yeah, my 5.5m is getting warranted again, more of the stitching came out. but I think I'm done with my v3 Strike - I decided to buy the 5m Mantis I destroyed last year from my wing dealer to tide me over until I get a PPC to ride this Spring. luckily the 4.5m has worked well with the new dw board and the new HA foils... I may be done with big wings!

      @@OCEANBOUND1 think you're right with the decline of big wings. I always said 6m is more than enough if you have a big foil. So does F-One. You notice their biggest wing this season is 5.5m?

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому +1

      @@aquaman1 I can’t be sure but my guess is they won’t come out with CWCs till the summer. 5.5m was their biggest non-CWC last year and the CWCs came later. But who knows. I’ll ride they wings if they wanna send me one, but they are amongst the $$$ of the non allula wings and lasts years cost went up supposedly due to better materials and design intended on them to last longer and it was absolutely not the case. So I’m gonna try some new wings this year, the XPS looks pretty good. I just want a light wing that drifts great that has decent performance.
