    Your support and breathing has really improved your vocal ability. All the most exciting and detailed nuance of your voice on now on full display. This is a huge win for those of us who appreciate the tone and timbre of your beautiful singing voice. Congratulations dude!
    Oh the mic is lovely too. Your vocal ability really sells the mic too!!

      Hey! Thanks! I actually practiced quite a lot this last year and definitely unlocked a few keys. Still missing the very high notes though haha! But the general pitch has improved, or at least I'm getting to the end result faster. Thanks for watching :)

      @@Christian_svedin the highs will come now that you have solid support and your pitch drift has remarkably reduced. The work on the high end of your register really takes that continued dedication to your training. You're still way too young to be skipping training sessions but as you know, the harder you work and more committed you remain as you have clearly demonstrated, the more the rewards. I'm really just thrilled for you dude, amazing changes. Bravo!!

    You said it perfectly about the S's sitting on top with the newer mics and them being baked in with the vintage! I have never know how to describe the sound but you summed it up!. Great video!

    I have tested very similar 87 with Tuchel connector. Against late 80s u87 and my DIY clone.
    The interesting thing is after recording it is sounding pretty close.
    But when vocalist hear herself/himself in the headphones while recording it is skins very different. Old u87 sounds expensive and it is definitely costs 5-15 grands (depends on condition and year).

      Yeaht that's my experience too! The actual feeling while recording can be allot bigger then the actual end result. I'm not sure I can recommend a U87 when they start pushing past 5k but for 3-4k it's a solid microphone and a good investment :)

    great vid, i was on the edge with buying a u87 or save up for a 67 but i actually like the u87 i tube amp mod better than the u67 or u47! crazy!
    on my way to 10k+ sound with only 5k

    The beautiful smooth mids together with the character of a Neve is so pleasant and soft! Recognize the sound directly from my old u87 (1978) with the battery inside the body for phantom power! Also drove a Rupert Neve Designs Portico 5012 to my old Fireface800! Brought back old memories now when you heard this!
    For some reason it was sold! Thanks for a brilliant review and great song!! // Etc. Carl-Magnus

    First off -- great pipes man, you can sing your ass off. That mic works really well on your voice. I would love to own a vintage u87 but probably not gonna happen. I'll have to be happy with my Stam Audio SA-87. Great vid!

    Fantastic highs. I like the sound of your voice on this mic. Or 87 mics in general.

    You can definately hear that neumann lush sweetness on the top end softening any sibilence, unlike the Ai version.
    You spoke briefly about trying some tube pre's.
    I don't own a neumann unfortunately, but i use a mojave 201 fet mic that I find a little harsh sometimes like a lot of fet mics. I was wondering if a tube pre can smooth a fet mic a little. Opinion?

    As another UA-camr mentioned! Is the warm tone of vintage Neumanns just because of dirt on the membrane after many years of use ? I have a U87ai and love it. My two old AKG 414 B-ULS are much warmer. Just checked them…..they are dirty. Not questioning your thoughts. But maybe !!!!!! 🙂

    I hope you can find some way to get hold of something like the United Studio Technologies UT Twin 87. It's supposed to be able to clone both a Vintage and a Modern 87. From tests a friend did, they get pretty close, I'd love to hear your thoughts if you can get hold of one. $600.

    As nice as a vintage U87 sounds, I don't think it's worth the $5k price tag. I did a video with a vintage U87 serial #33721 on my channel which I borrowed from my job (music store that specializes in used gear). We listed it at $3,600 and it sat for months. We dropped it to $3,000 and it sold instantly. And that's with the original shockmount too! So from my experience, $4k-$5k? It's not worth that price tag imo. $2.8k-$3.5k? Absolutely!
    I always enjoy your vids man!

    • @Christian_svedin
      @Christian_svedin  Рік тому +1

      Hey! That's good to hear. That's my impression too, that listed price Vs actual sold price is quite different. So you should be able to find one for 3-3.5k$ which is fine, and will definitely get you a nice sounding mic! Thanks man I appreciate it 😊

      That is what they should cost. I think it might be possible to find them for atleast 3.5k. i found mine for quite a good price and was able to buy a swivel too! Keep an eye out you might get lucky!

      if its the one that sold on reverb late last month from a Kansas pawn shop then that would be me who brought it hahah. It's a great mic if u run it thru a 1073 x tubesessor or tube tech. Lastly the mic should of have went for 4k min but sometimes pawn shops don't know what they have!

    Sounds really nice, thank you for this demo! Right now there are a lot of U87s from the early 80s for sale. Do you know how much difference in tone there is (if any) between the 70s and early 80s?

    Hi Christian. I can’t stop thinking about your statement of the S’s being baked in as opposed to on top. Are there any modern mics that do it or is it just vintage ones. Can you make any recommendations?

    • @Christian_svedin
      @Christian_svedin  4 місяці тому

      Hey! Nope I'm sorry to say that no modern mic that I've tried have done this as good as a vintage. It's probably because all modern mics are brighter in the midrange and also has a faster transient response. All vintage Neumann does this though, from the 47,49,67 to the U87.

      @@Christian_svedin Thanks for getting back to me. So, would you say any U87 pre AI version would do the trick, or up until a certain date? I have a U87ai and those S's are killing me and forcing me to look for an alternative. Thank you

    And video and presentation style as well as.

      Use trimmer before that.
