One of the purest melodies of all time, and one of Buddy's super sleeper songs. Catch George Harrison and the Beatles' version of "Crying, Waiting, Hoping" before the Fab Four became famous, but after the NAMED themselves after Buddy's Crickets. As melodist, lyricist, lead guitarist, and creator of the prototype rock and roll band, Buddy Holly is far and away the most creative of all the Rock Hall of Fame's first inductees. Of course, Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, the Everly Brothers, Ray Charles, Fats Domino and the rest are pretty tremendous themselves. To date it will be sixty years since he left us.Buddy Holy died tragically just too young at 22 on 3 February 1959. Forever a legend of Rock and Roll music Buddy Holly was an inspiration to groups such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. John Lennon was heard to have remark,"If not for Buddy Holly there would have been Beatles." Holly together with Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper and Dion and the Belmont's in that ill fated Winter Dance Party tour.Iowa was one of the schedule performances.
When I was a bit younger, this man made me want to play music. The Strat was the best solid gold instrument of the time, and then he played it to open the doors of the future of music, lyrics, voice, lead play all there and more.
true legend gone way too soon along with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens wonderful careers so very short may they rest in peace and keep the music going with Elvis
Buddy Holly had a huge influence on all of the Beatles. In 1958 it was rare to have a songwriting, guitar playing, lead singer heading up a rock and roll band. Even The Crickets name inspired them to take the name Silver Beetles.
Buddy died before this version was recorded. He doesnt play the Lead here. He didn't play on this recording technically. It was a bunch of studio musicians whose names you can locate in Archives. He died before the tapes were taken from his NYC apartment and handed to 2 producers one Buddys former engineer / manager at Clovis NM studios. It's from his NYC apartment tapes recorded in late 1958 December) and Jan. 1959 with Buddy writing and singing and playing along with an acoustic guitar. No reverb effects...just Buddy and his guitar. He never heard this version. Buddy does'nt get enough credit for his playing of his Fender Strat guitar. Everyone else played a Gibson. Buddy is Truly someone who changed how RockNRoll is played. But he wouldn't live long enough to know it....
His old producer, Norman Petty took a band named the Fireballs and did the music and another group called the Picks for backing vocals on his newest songs.
Yeah. this has Donald Arnone on lead guitar. George Harrison particular liked his solo enough to learn it. not the easiest to learn by ear. I had to watch someone on youtube playing it to learn it. From what i gather on discogs Donald was a jazz guitarist and maybe played spanish or world music as well. Not alot of his playing on youtube though, if it is his name isnt mentioned.

Yes that was definitive Rock and Roll music and Buddy Holly and his backing group the Crickets were belting out the number "Crying,Waiting,Hoping" made popular by Los Lobos in the 1986 movie "La Bamba's" starring Lou Diamond Phillips who played the character of Ritchie Valens.

He had a great Articulative aspect to his voice the same way that Bing Crosby did. Unique in the style and specifically that genre and really set him apart.
Who knows where we end up after we leave this place, But if possible, this is somebody I'd Love to hopefully meet someday, been a fan since I was 10 and my Mom bought me one of his albums, that was back in 1973 and I still have that album plus now all the BH CD's I could lay my hands on. LOL
In a spirit of good will I would like to share some Buddy Holly history, as it is reflected in this UA-cam post. Buddy's younger fans often speculate about what they see and hear. For the fans who care, firstly, the video is from Buddy Holly's first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. Two songs were performed by the Crickets that evening. First was That'll Be The Day. Second was Peggy Sue. The video used here is of That'll Be The Day. The drumming style used by J.I. on Peggy Sue was completely different. The easy way to tell is J.I. never uses his hi-hat while playing Peggy Sue. As to the song, the original was recorded by Buddy in his apartment shortly before his death, just Buddy and his acoustic guitar. Later, for commercial release, the song was overdubbed by The Jack Hansen Combo to add additional vocals and instrumentation. Personally I like this song very much. Finally, a compliment to 2paulson2 for a very well done and tasteful post.
guitarist was Don Arnone, not a ' regular Cricket guy'--- DonA was an elite session-musician who was called in when producer 'Hansen' faced the task to make some tapes more presentable after Buddy's death🙁
These artists are the GREATEST and ALWAYS will be. Reminds me of my babyhood, I was just 2 years old. Even when I grew up, Buddy Holly was my favourite. PURE GENIUS!
I am on my aunt's UA-cam user. Even though i am only in 7th, I am the only 7th grader/8th person who LOVES Buddy Holly , Eddie Cochrin, The Everly Brothers , Richie Valens , Fats Domino and other awesome oldie singers. I based my appearance on my idol , Buddy Holly.I hope I become the next Buddy Holly

You cannot use enough adjectives about Buddy Holly. He was the “Mozart” of Rock and Roll. But also I hate that Richie Valens is too often overlooked. You talk about someone who made SOMETHING from nowhere. I really would have like to have seen where he would have taken music. Whatever “it” is they both had it!
Yes, Valens started off with 3 singles and passed. Then Bob Keane had a lot of studio tracks and home recordings he released. I also found a boxed set called 'Come on, let`s go` with 3 discs. It has all three of his albums plus there are extras, too. Plus he was a great performer.

Just thought I would let you know that this song was not discovered until after Holly died! Along with other songs with just Buddy and his guitar. These were the first 'overdubbed' versions and they were later 'overdubbed' again at the request of Hollys parents as they were unhappy with the first result. Naturally they requested Norman Petty to complete the task and what a great job he did with the help of The Fireballs with George Tomsco playing lead guitar.
this song was recorded by Buddy in his apartment in New York on his tape recorder on what is now known as THE APARTMENT TAPES and was never released in his lifetime .this recording is backed by The Fireballs and recorded at Norman Petty's studio. it was one of 6 songs he could not put his name to.he was a ROALITY THIEF.

After Holly's death on February 3, 1959, his home recordings of his last six compositions were turned over to record producer Jack Hansen. Hansen hired studio musicians and a backup vocal group, the Ray Charles Singers, to augment Holly's vocal(1) and guitar(1). ------studio version of "Crying, Waiting, Hoping" was recorded on June 30, 1959 at Coral Records' Studio A,--------Because "Crying, Waiting, Hoping" was popular in England's Merseybeat-scene, the song was recorded by others, including the Beatles, with George Harrison doing the vocal and replicating STUDIO GUITARIST Donald Arnone's instrumental bridge, NOTE FOR NOTE. One of the recordings was officially released in 1994 on Live at the BBC

If Buddy would have lived Elvis would haven taken a back seat to him. They both were great but Buddy shines the brightest.
MrKewlblue so true
You left out Eddie Cochran...
MrKewlblue Valens, holly and Cochran
Elvis admired Roy Orbison.
Buddy Holly is my absolute favourite!!! God how I love him! Bobby Fuller was great as well!!!
mis this music so much ,thats why i still play on mandolin and my 1960s guitar trying it on my mandola
Buddy Holly had such great talent. His music & legacy will always live on. Buddy Holly is of course one of my favorite artists.
Hello Denise, How are you doing?
@@Kelly-nm4kw I am doing good. Thank you for asking. How are you doing?
@@denisel.1327 I’m doing well thanks for asking Denise, So tell me where are you from?
@@Kelly-nm4kw I do no wish to mention where I am from for protection purposes. I am sorry.
Buddy Holly you may have been taken out of this world at only 22 but your fame will never die . Your great music will live forever 🎶🎶
magic rock song from the godfather of rock buddy holly. always loved his songs. and wow one of the greatest guitar players ever.
To date it will be sixty years since he left us.Buddy Holy died tragically just too young at 22 on 3 February 1959.
Forever a legend of Rock and Roll music Buddy Holly was an inspiration to groups such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
John Lennon was heard to have remark,"If not for Buddy Holly there would have been Beatles."
Holly together with Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper and Dion and the Belmont's in that ill fated Winter Dance Party tour.Iowa was one of the schedule performances.
WHEN Music still had TRUE Meaning!!!
This touches my heart so much!!
When I was a bit younger, this man made me want to play music. The Strat was the best solid gold instrument of the time, and then he played it to open the doors of the future of music, lyrics, voice, lead play all there and more.
Once sgain,,same here!! One of my early mentors.
Wish he would have lived a long life !!! What am Impact he had on our music in such a short time !!!!
Love Buddy Holly,,
He was awesome !!
true legend gone way too soon along with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens wonderful careers so very short may they rest in peace and keep the music going with Elvis
The most talented song writer in his time, such a shame we lost him, but his music will never end
His old producer, Norman Petty took a band named the Fireballs and did the music and another group called the Picks for backing vocals on his newest songs.
buddy also had a gibson J-45 their acoustic guitars are much better than fender's
Yeah. this has Donald Arnone on lead guitar.
@@bluephalanx Oh, hell yes!! Much, much better! No comparison! I had a 57-58 J50, similar guitar, natural, bigger pickguard, log neck..sounded different, but good. Had to sell it to make a rent payment...wasbt really in love with it. J45s are nice guitars..go back to just after WWll..
@@natetheguitarkid Thank you very much on that Nate..Nice, different lead.
It about to be 15 years on 2025 😢
The true King of Rock n Roll. He had the imagination and talent to be able to create his own music and pioneering the way for those that followed.
Yes I agree he is and will always be the true king of rock and roll he wrote and produced his songs he did more in the short time that he was here then other musicians could do in a lifetime
I love him like a brother, thank God for my buddy, hope to see you in heaven some day.
Me too, as,well...Maybe he'll be in concert.
I can't help but keep thinking about the great music and memories that would have been had Buddy Holly lived.
crying waiting hoping u [buddy] come back ,,,we miss u bh
Who else thinks that thing he does with his voice is cool
Where he goes mi I I ind
Very cool. I love his hiccups.
i loved it when he was still alive, still love his music
I, as a Buddy Holly fan big time, loved it!! Hic-cupping, they called it. Loved this song, heard the Beatles do it on "Live @ BBC" album...Learned their version. Still don't have that tricky lead down..!
LOL
Just brilliant can’t describe how good he was what a massive loss
Buddy Holly and the original Crickets!!! Wow ,can you imagine being outside their garage door when they where starting out!!!
Thank you for your post!
I'm from 2020 31 years old enjoying song :). older that my mother I hope my mother and this music live forever. Cheers from Mexico.
The Crickets were a great backing group. The guitarist was brilliant in this video.
guitarist was Don Arnone, not a ' regular Cricket guy'--- DonA was an elite session-musician who was called in when producer 'Hansen' faced the task to make some tapes more presentable after Buddy's death🙁
Ma wee dad loved this rip Bobby logan watp
an american icon and american legend ,the great buddy holly, one of the early rock and roll pioneers

These artists are the GREATEST and ALWAYS will be. Reminds me of my babyhood, I was just 2 years old. Even when I grew up, Buddy Holly was my favourite. PURE GENIUS!
Buddy Holly is the king of rock and roll
Excellent great buddy holly and the crickets
I am on my aunt's UA-cam user. Even though i am only in 7th, I am the only 7th grader/8th person who LOVES Buddy Holly , Eddie Cochrin, The Everly Brothers , Richie Valens , Fats Domino and other awesome oldie singers. I based my appearance on my idol , Buddy Holly.I hope I become the next Buddy Holly
I'm actually in 9th grade and OBSSESSED with Buddy! =3
elinor najera Great taste in music for your age.
forget about looking like him, if you can create like he did...he didn't copy anyone, not even his idols
Good job. I was 7 when I started liking him. He wrote all of his own stuff, too.
@@hewgrebe4771 I was, about 7 or 8 too...in the Long Island/N.Y. area. My cousin bought his, records, which I sadly left in a relocation move. I bought "Rave On"..that broke...Lose all around...except for being able to play his music, and sing it as a performer..
WoW! Such an unbelievable wonderful video of the GREAT Buddy Holly!! What a precious track of this incomparable ICON!! Thank you for this!🎶💕😍😍😍😍
You cannot use enough adjectives about Buddy Holly. He was the “Mozart” of Rock and Roll. But also I hate that Richie Valens is too often overlooked. You talk about someone who made SOMETHING from nowhere. I really would have like to have seen where he would have taken music. Whatever “it” is they both had it!
Yup and he was only 17 holy crap can you imagine him at 25 or 27
Yes, Valens started off with 3 singles and passed. Then Bob Keane had a lot of studio tracks and home recordings he released. I also found a boxed set called 'Come on, let`s go` with 3 discs. It has all three of his albums plus there are extras, too. Plus he was a great performer.
Richie & Buddy, given the chance, would've jammed with each others guitars into the wee hours!
How right you are thy were all great singers i was a little girl then and my older sisters would have me danceing too there music just brilliant,
😪👍♥️♥️♥️👑👑👑👑👑👑👑😫
Just thought I would let you know that this song was not discovered until after Holly died! Along with other songs with just Buddy and his guitar. These were the first 'overdubbed' versions and they were later 'overdubbed' again at the request of Hollys parents as they were unhappy with the first result. Naturally they requested Norman Petty to complete the task and what a great job he did with the help of The Fireballs with George Tomsco playing lead guitar.
Hero's get remembered but legends never die
Buddy Holly is one of the all time greats. I didn't discover his music until 1965 and I wore out a double album set listening to it. Great stuff.
all the great cars and music came at those years
Favorite artist of all time.
RIP Legend, 61 years today 02-03-2020!
this song was recorded by Buddy in his apartment in New York on his tape recorder on what is now known as THE APARTMENT TAPES and was never released in his lifetime .this recording is backed by The Fireballs and recorded at Norman Petty's studio. it was one of 6 songs he could not put his name to.he was a ROALITY THIEF.
Still magic, and still the man. Rave on Buddy
Buddy Holly just around the corner from me from Lubbock Texas
The day the music died legend rip

Thanks Buddy, forever god bless you, hi from Quito - Ecuador
My mom and dad went to see buddy at the town hall in Birmingham 60years ago and I went last week to see buddy the guy who play him was fantastic but it wasn’t buddy my mother and father loved buddy holly bless you buddy x
