I got an amazing trade for a 2002 C4S with previous cat d...it was only a rear bumper and new exhaust system required, but at the time , using Porsche parts + labour that was more than half the value of the car. No other damage.
    10 years later I got a wicked deal .

I kind of love the idea of a cat write off Porsche the only problem would be avoiding the ones that have been poorly repaired , but if you get a good one surely you've got a good track day car

Great video as always lee I’ve never let crash damage or miles put me off a car especially if I could one day have a 911 thanks

Extremely well put Lee! I agree think how many guilt free miles can be done. Nice to see a video talking about this in the Porsche world

For something rare & special and a ‘forever’ car then why not as you’re not going worry about resale value so if the repair is done properly then you’re on to a winner - so long as you can sort out any possible insurance problem.

Nice wave to the passing Porsche!
Absolutely nothing wrong with buying a damaged repaired/repairable car if you go into it with your eyes open. Good film Lee.

Another long winded click posting on Cat cars. How many are there on here?.
20-30% cheaper, get the car checked over by a pro.
      That's it.

Got my 2004 C2 cab (996) with 75k miles for $15k USD a few years ago. It had been damaged and considered totaled... but then was professionally repaired before I bought it. I've owned it for 3 years now and not had a single issue with it. Great purchase!!!

Great vid and agree with your comments
When your on a budget I think the toss up is between a cat car or high mileage as the difference is very little between them. But as most people would agree but the best one you can afford to buy and run

You have to consider that many insurance companies won't insure these, and this will typically increase your premium.

Very good video on a topic which is tabu for many people. I personally don't care, if the car is straight, it's straight. What you save buying, you won't make back selling . Buy on condition

I’m a VDA for over 15 years and the last 9 years in a Porsche recommended Bodyshop and I know these cars inside out and it concerns me a lot why this was a total loss and how it got repaired , I would love to see the original audatex estimate to see what was estimated for and which insurance company total lossed it as that makes a difference as some insurance companies kill cars at 60 percent of the value and some go to the value of the car

Flood damage would be the best option, but I would want to see the car after the crash and what was damaged just so I know what I'm driving. Certainly an option if it's a keeper.

Something to consider is at least you know and have the history, a lot of GT cars are crashed in track and fixed, or it could have been in the same accident and a different insurance company would have repaired it. In both these cases you would pay full price and believe you have a clean car

I bought a CAT S 997 C2S 2 years ago for £14k (around £10k or 40% less than similar cars). It has 2 previous owners and last owner for 8 years maintained with a Porsche warranty, so the underlying car was sound. The only ’chassis’ damage was suspension, nothing on the actual body so I’d even question the CAT markers given to some cars. These are parts due for replacement anyway on these cars so it really didn’t matter. I’ve never had an issue with insurance, I just have a normal car policy from a reputable insurer and it costs me around £300 per year.

does the insurance company know it was a cat s? Truthfully now? Because you do not have to tell them, but when it comes to an accident , they will not pay out if they find out. They will do anything

Have the rules changed? I bought a Cat D BMW from an unscrupulous seller some years ago. I did not discover this until I came to part exchange it in 2015. I contacted Experian (HPI) and somehow they managed to get the Cat D flag lifted. I sold the car for market value.
