Skyrim Battles - Neloth vs. Arch Pyromancers, Ralis, Zahkriisos, and more

- Another Neloth episode, this time with magicka bars as well!
This video was recorded in the same general area as my previous one with Neloth; at the exterior of Nchardak, the Dwemer ruin next to Tel Mithryn. Last time, the battles were fought right before the main door. Today, they take place on the bridge leading to Nchardak's gate instead, to not have the exact same environment.
After tweaking it a bit (mostly removing the clutter), it turned out to be a surprisingly good battleground for mages, although it gets problematic with melee fighters.

Despite Neloth having high fire resistance from being a Dunmer, he doesn't do overly well against Arch Pyromancers. Even a single one can beat him sometimes, although that takes a lot of luck and Neloth usually wins. It's a different story against two of them, who completely obliterate him.
Ralis can beat Neloth if he attacks immediately and consistently, ignores Neloth's Ash Guardian, doesn't get ragdolled from his Whirlwind Cloak, and Neloth doesn't heal in time. That's a lot of requirements. Neloth is consistently better and wins most of the time.
I have done Neloth vs. Zahkriisos in an older video and decided to redo it: Back then, the location was bad for recordings, there were lots of bugs, and I had to do it on novice difficulty. This time, it worked out much better, enough to do it on adept difficulty. The magicka bars are also really useful to see.

Yeah, Zahkriisos would floor any mage in the game, even the big three Ildari, Neloth, and Savos. His lightning storm wipes their magic pool clean and does massive damage.
True! His huge shock resistance is really useful too. Ildari can beat him if she summons her Storm Atronach, and if Zahkriisos focuses on it, he won't attack anymore or summon his High Seeker. Although I don't really consider this a win 😅
Ah, I hadn’t thought of that scenario. Yeah, that’s kind of a cheesy win 😂. I am curious, though: how long does the pyromancer usually last against Neloth? Neloth seemed to be handling him until the pyromancer got that lucky healing off. Good video as usual, by the way!
In mage battles lightning magic generally rules perhaps against arch electromancers he would have a harder time

The battle is usually pretty long; Neloth's damage per second is pretty poor, but he's highly resistant to fire, so both him and the Pyromancer need a lot of firepower (no pun intended) to kill each other.
Another important detail is how broken wards in Skyrim are. They can either be incredibly good or bad depending on the scenario.
In this case, we have Neloth's Ash Guardian which keeps attacking with a ranged concentration spell, which constantly breaks the Pyromancer's ward. Since a ward that is currently charging can be broken by any amount of damage, regardless of the ward type or incoming spell, the Pyromancer keeps getting staggered from the ward breaking, starts charging the ward again, gets staggered again, etc.
It's also worth mentioning that an NPC often doesn't take damage from incoming spells anymore while their ward is breaking, so this can actually help them a lot, as their opponent is wasting their magicka at this point. On the other hand, being stunned over and over also makes it hard for them to attack, and they waste their own magicka as well by casting the ward again and again.
The round in this video was a good one with not too many boring moments. It often takes much longer. Here are some examples if you're curious:

@@alirafati9340 Generally, that's correct! Zahkriisos has a total of 65% shock resistance though, so it's the worst element to use against him. 😅 I have put him against 3 Arch Electromancers a while ago:

You can say that about any npc. “Who would *of* guessed two 12 ft tall demons would be bested by some dude in armor? Who would *of* guessed two giants with huge clubs would be bested by some hillbilly with sticks?”

You should bring in city gaurds with raiders. See what it takes for each city to fall.
Karthstaag was overwhelmed by skeletons, you could do the same with the ebony warrior
I have some town raid episodes scheduled, pretty interesting formats!
The Ebony Warrior would have to kill each skeleton one by one, whereas Karstaag killed most of them with his cloak. They can also shoot Karstaag simultaneously, while the Ebony Warrior is not tall enough and only a handful of skeletons could hit him at once. The result would be a very long and boring fight and an easy win for the Ebony Warrior 😅

I've used TrueHUD for this video! It's not optimized for NPC battles which is why I don't use it regularly, but it's really cool for some episodes 😄

You know I’ve always been curious if any of the hold capitals (whiterun, riften, etc) could have been able to beat Alduin without Dragonborn being in the city or at least how quickly they would lose.
I imagine his meteor shower would decimate most of the normal citizens in no time. This could be a fun town raid video if everything works out 🤔

I could try. 🤔 I'm afraid Zapstaag might be too large to navigate though. He could get stuck under the bridges
The Dragonborn DLC dragonpriests are so strong. Wonder if all 3 would take down Karstag?
This would basically come down to just Ahzidal. Karstaag is immune to Dukaan's damage and extremely resistant to Zahkriisos'. Those two could only act as a distraction while Ahzidal is attacking. Even if he does enough damage, it's not the most exciting fight 😅
Seriously, Ralis was just having the same problem I had while fighting Neloth for fun. The only reason, you can not instantly defeat Neloth is purely because of a windshield forcing you to spam spells or arrow shots from a distance? But why did Neloth not use his windshield from the start of his first match against Ralis just like what happened in the second?
The cloak is pretty funny. 😆 Mages aren't consistent with all the spells they use. In the first round, Ralis got him down to low HP quickly, which made him prefer healing spells
Biggest waste of time and mana for mages is for them to use flesh spells against each other

Love Neloth as a character. Wish they made him a bit stronger - doesn't really live up to the talk he does in game.
I think they nerfed him because the player visits Nchardak with him, and they didn't want to make it too easy. He's still one of the strongest mages in the game 😄

@@lSlendermaster Yes, I saw Neloth beat Miraak (4 Lives,and Under the same level) at home, but Neloth lost to Dukaan, while Ahzidal, Dukaan and Zahk all lost to Miraak of 4 lives.

Ysgramor is very weak in-game, like most of the other NPCs in the Hall of Valor. It would be really unbalanced 😅

I've done that on adept, not sure if I'll repeat that on other difficulties. 🤔 Anything higher than adept is usually not good with mages because they keep healing, making for a very long and rather random fight
