Lactose intolerance is a common condition caused by a decreased ability to digest lactose, a sugar found in dairy products.[1] Those affected vary in the amount of lactose they can tolerate before symptoms develop.[1] Symptoms may include abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, flatulence, and nausea.[1] These symptoms typically start thirty minutes to two hours after eating or drinking milk-based food.[1] Their severity typically depends on the amount a person eats or drinks.[1] Lactose intolerance does not cause damage to the gastrointestinal tract.[2]
Lactose intolerance is due to the lack of the enzyme lactase in the small intestines to break lactose down into glucose and galactose.[3] There are four types: primary, secondary, developmental, and congenital.[1] Primary lactose intolerance occurs as the amount of lactase declines as people age.[1] Secondary lactose intolerance is due to injury to the small intestine. Such injury could be the result of infection, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, or other diseases.[1][4] Developmental lactose intolerance may occur in premature babies and usually improves over a short period of time.[1] Congenital lactose intolerance is an extremely rare genetic disorder in which little or no lactase is made from birth.[1] The onset of primary lactose intolerance, the most common type, is typically in late childhood or early adulthood,[1] but prevalence increases with age.[5]
Diagnosis may be confirmed if symptoms resolve following eliminating lactose from the diet.[1] Other supporting tests include a hydrogen breath test and a stool acidity test.[1] Other conditions that may produce similar symptoms include irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, and inflammatory bowel disease.[1] Lactose intolerance is different from a milk allergy.[1] Management is typically by decreasing the amount of lactose in the diet, taking lactase supplements, or treating the underlying disease.[1][6] People are usually able to drink at least one cup of milk without developing significant symptoms, with greater amounts tolerated if drunk with a meal or throughout the day.[1][7]
Most adults (around 65-70% of the world's population) are affected by lactose malabsorption.[5][8] Other mammals normally lose the ability to digest lactose after weaning and this was the ancestral state of all humans before the recent evolution of lactase persistence, which extends lactose tolerance into adulthood.[9] Lactase persistence evolved in several populations independently, probably as an adaptation to the domestication of dairy animals around 10,000 years ago.[10][11] Today the prevalence of lactose tolerance varies widely between regions and ethnic groups.[5] The ability to digest lactose is most common in people of European descent, and to a lesser extent in parts of the Middle East and Africa.[5][8] Traditional food cultures reflect local variations in tolerance[5] and historically many societies have adapted to low levels of tolerance by making dairy products that contain less lactose than fresh milk.[12] The medicalization of lactose intolerance as a disorder has been attributed to biases in research history, since most early studies were conducted amongst populations which are normally tolerant,[9] as well as the cultural and economic importance of milk in countries such as the United States.[13]

For me it use to make me gassy or bloated…. Now it makes me vomit 😭. I can’t enjoy dairy anymore😭.
Maybe try lactose free products if you not allergic to milk

Someone ik might have lactose intolerance, they vomit randomly everytime they drink milk after 4 to 5 hours later, they just got it later in age. Is that possible?
@@twist6039 I’m 19, I didn’t start fully noticing until I was 16. I had small reaction’s for years but, I didn’t think much of it. I can’t enjoy cake, nachos, or even Alfredo. I can’t really eat some bread because of the dairy, it’s a major change though.
@@Mjdnighthaze I’m learning this about myself now. It’s depressing 😪
I haven’t ate cereal in forever and today I decided to have some and well I’m currently regretting it 🥴😅

can you eat the cereal with water instead ? or the products that are similar to milk ?

@@dariusanderton3760Lactose tolerance milk
I can eat tons of cheese, yogurt, sour cream and ice cream, but if I drink half a glass of milk, I am in for a bad time. Very confusing.
Not confusing. Milk contains more lactose than those other things.
Same here I can even have pizza and I'm fine but milk not so much 2 percent and non lactaid I can kinda handle
What do you experience?

Just found out all my problems all these years was lactose intolerance and I know now
Really, what were the most common symptoms for you?
same here, i hate the fact that i can't drink a milk coffee, only black one
but i still consume milk everyday even that it makes you take shit like a million time
that is still nothing compared to dealing with weak bones problems
I’m here because I had a latte yesterday and I’ve been hurting ever since
They have lactose free milk. And coffee creamer super good too and it taste like regular milk also just found out they have yogurt and actual cheese for us lactose people to eat. Look up kite hill and Vialife cheese. I love mac and cheese too so i had to come up with a solution
i have same issue but i used to take moringa powder daily as it has good source of calcium.i take tea with 20 % milk and 80% water
I just cut milk and cream from my coffee as I was bloated and lacking energy . Black only , I know I can't handle alot of milk , but dang now creamer and coffee milk !
get your calcium from Kale. it has more calcium than milk, and keep your Vit D levels high
I cut milk from my diet and my health improve. I never had digestive issues with milk, but I had very extreme fatigue and brain fog after drinking milk and milkshakes, later the problem seem to affect me even when I ate cereals. I was observing my body for long time and I can say 100% the extreme fatigue symptoms come after the milk. I can eat yoghurts, cheese and drink kefirs without any problems, so I do eat those products, but the milk I stop and this was improve my energy levels as I was leave before extreme tired,so tired that even standing a short period of time was making me want to lie down and was always short after I drink milk, milkshakes or have cereals with milk
I could drink milk mixed with some chocolate or non-dairy products, but I will vomit if I drink pure milk. Also, I could not eat cheese. After eating cheese I will have an immediate headache, feel like vomiting and also I breathe faster as I will suffocate. My intolerance is more intense toward cheese, unlike milk.
@@nayan7065 in that case better avoid those products all if you have breathing problems you may be at risk of anaphylaxis a worst allergy reaction with can kill you in minutes
Thank you for your concern.
I try to avoid eating these products, but sometimes when I visit other people's houses, they offer me sweets that contain dairy products. I tell them that I am intolerant to dairy, which they understand, but ask me to have a small quantity as prasad (a gift). I eat a bite of food and it does not affect my body much.
@@nayan7065 maybe you can tolerate small amounts I will avoid those products because you never know when the toleration of small amounts will wear off. Anaphylaxis is not joke
I am watching this after having a large dose of Dairy Queen lol. My toilet is shattered
I use to drink milk fine but as I get older, I started to have a problem with my bowl movement. I started to have very hard time going to bathroom, and only goes there every 5 or 4 days. My rectum was going off (swollen) "that was so much pain :(" every time I go to bathroom, and it stays swollen for 30 min to 1h after bathroom and it gives me so much pain. first I thought it's hemorrhoids but after I checked with the doctor he said that I have hemorrhoids but it's internal and it's normal and not what's causing the issue as I still have room for the stool to move. I insisted to do the surgery which I already did, but I asked him if the milk make any issue here, he said "no"!! but after the surgery my rectum went off again after I drank a cup of Lattee that made with milk. I stopped drinking any milk and my rectum never bothered me again. so I figured out that I have lactose intolerance, but I never did any test. I can eat yogurt and cheese without noticing any problem as I think my body produces a little lactase enzyme enough for them but not for milk.
*When I drink milk, it makes my bowels hard "constipation" and all my intestine get swollen.
I also didn't used to have problems with milk, but now it always constipates me.

hi, nice content! Question thought, can lactose intolerant people still get the nutrients from milk for example?
Lactose-intolerant individuals, lacking the enzyme lactase for digesting milk sugar, often experience digestive discomfort after consuming dairy. However, they can still obtain nutrients from milk through lactose-free or lactose-reduced dairy options, as well as by taking lactase supplements before consuming regular dairy products. Additionally, non-dairy sources like fortified plant-based milk, leafy greens, nuts, and seeds provide alternative routes to essential nutrients such as calcium, vitamin D, and protein. Adapting their diet allows those with lactose intolerance to maintain nutritional balance without triggering digestive problems.
I find however, it happens almost as soon as I finish a meal that has even the slightest smattering of cheese. For example, I just consumed a frittata with a small salad that had cheese in it. Generally, I used to be okay with this sort of stuff, and I’ve always loved cheese. However: as soon as I finished that meal, my stomach felt weird. Not even 20 minutes later, I’m almost expelling from both ends. I haven’t eaten anything expired prior and I’m always having supplements. I even noticed my stomach being quite gassy and (as bad as it sounds) not smelling nice after having raisin toast with a small amount of butter. Same thing again having butter on toast before work.
Is this normal among lactose intolerant people??
Interesting you should say this. I have had lactose intolerance since about 4 or 5 but was able to tolerate cheese. Now even a small amount causes problems. As I have coeliac's disease also which seems to have got worse in terms of sensitivity, my lactose intolerance has been exacerbated. I wonder whether you may have another issue affecting your digestive tract, not necessarily coeliac's disease. I have tried lactase enzyme supplements but the affects are not perfect. Having a restricted diet can be tedious but it's better than having to run to the bathroom 20 times a day (and that is no exaggeration).
I think I have the intolerance because I get the bad smelling gas afterwards too and sometimes nauseated
I have always had that problem it would take my stomach 20 minutes to an hour and I would be racing towards the bathroom
Hard cheese contains minimal lactose. Butter even less.
hello i am from south america i am lactose intellorant as soon as i drink milk i get flatulence and diarrhea that's how terrible is it, too bad i can't drink milk?
Same
same i get abunch of flatulence too
30 min - 2 hours after milk?? I get diarrhea right after I drink milk like I try to make a healthy milkshake but as soon as I drink it it goes outta my body idk if it's really that healthy
I have a Ileostomy unt becumm lacktose intollerunt
my stoma squirt like a hose pipe unt my bag fill upp 4 to 5 times with lidwids
I don’t know whether I am lactose intolerant or not like I don’t get any problem if I eat curd, kheer, cheese or drink stuff like tea but whenever I drink milk it always causes abdominal pain or bloating.
Milk allergy
@lindsayskye4244 why do think that?
Then u r lactose intolerant stomach doesnt want it unless u force it😂 go to hospital 😂
does homogenised milk reduce the effect of this? I am not sure if i am tolerant or not, I do get the odd fart and burps at 500ml milk drink and stomach upset at 1 litre of milk but with normal glasses of 200-250ml i dont have issues here, and right now after I changed my milk from toned regular to homogenized one even both of those issues have stopped, I can now drink 1 Litre of my milkshakes at home without stomach issues. just asking if there are varying degrees of lactose intolerance
Yes, varying degrees of lactose intolerance exist, and homogenized milk may reduce symptoms due to smaller fat globules aiding digestion-your experience suggests better tolerance with homogenized milk ❤️

I started drinking 3 glasses of milk a day in January and have been suffering severe back pain, Anyone else? Just last week I cut out all dairy and the pain is getting much better. That is the only thing I did differently.

Does it need to have symptoms always. I used to have symptoms after i consumed milk about 2-3 hours post lunch. No other dairies have any effect. Is it lactose intolerance?
Lactose intolerance doesn't always present with consistent symptoms. If you experience discomfort, bloating, or diarrhea specifically after consuming milk, but not with other dairy products, it could indicate lactose intolerance. Symptoms typically appear a few hours after consumption. Consulting with a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and guidance on managing symptoms is advisable.

Whenever I feel constipated, I just go buy myself some milk, take about 1 litre without boiling or adding anything, then boom, I will be in the toilet like 5 to 7 times.
I have had this since I was born and I don't vomit but I do deal with needing to run towards the bathroom in less than minutes or sometimes an hour after consuming dairy it has made my sex life almost non-existent cause I don't wanna stay away from things that I grew up eating but I have started to give up things with dairy in it and I have started loosing weight as well 😮 but I won't get into that part but being lactose intolerant can be serious or even feel like something serious
Living with lactose intolerance can indeed present numerous challenges, impacting daily life and dietary choices. Your description of the urgency and discomfort associated with consuming dairy highlights the significant impact it can have on your quality of life. It's essential to prioritize your well-being and seek alternatives that are lactose-free to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Many individuals successfully manage lactose intolerance by making dietary adjustments and incorporating lactose-free options, which can contribute to better overall health and well-being.
I'm scared I cannot stay away from milk, even with the symptoms. Is there any long term result of taking milk continuously. I'm scared other conditions could result
Ya kidney malfunction very dangerous or go to hospital transplant no good 😢
I'm lactose intolerant cuz I have abdominal pain, gas, and nausea
It only hits me when I drink a lot of alcohol just say a bender , talk about painful hang overs ,yea don’t plan on drinking again
Does lactose also contain the IGF1 hormone?
Lactose, which is the sugar naturally found in milk and dairy products, does not contain the insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) hormone. IGF-1 is a hormone produced by the liver and other tissues in response to growth hormone stimulation. It plays a role in cell growth and development. While IGF-1 can be present in milk, it is not a component of lactose itself. The presence of IGF-1 in milk is due to its natural occurrence in the cow's body and not the lactose content.

I had to be put on soy formula as a baby because I just could not handle milk. Now I’m 20 and I consume dairy all the time (not milk I can’t stand it) and I think it’s the reason I’m always bloated and uncomfortable. Ya'll should try consuming goat dairy (if your not severely lactose intolerant) it's easier on the stomach for lactose intolerant ppl, so you don't have to feel like your missing out on the things ppl like myself are enjoying, like ice cream, cakes, cupcakes, Mac n cheese, pizza, milk chocolate etc, you can still make these things out of goat milk/dairy ❤❤❤🐐🥛

But dairy products contain loads of calcium right ? Does that mean one can get calcium deficiency?
While dairy products are rich in calcium, a deficiency can still occur due to factors like poor absorption, dietary restrictions, or underlying health conditions.
I have a question if hot milk can trigger lactose intolerance?
Yes, hot milk can potentially trigger symptoms of lactose intolerance, just like cold or room-temperature milk. Lactose intolerance is primarily related to the lactose content, not the temperature of the milk.

People need to drink a glass of milk each day. Bad bacteria sticks to your gut lining and when you drink milk the bad bacteria consumes the milk, but now they are unable to stick to the lining and they get flushed out of your system as diarrhea or gas etc. milk also helps clear yeast overgrowth. Just think about what happens when bacteria is introduced to milk, it curds, or grows into something bigger that cannot stick to the gut lining. That’s why the milk cows have little cute faces that scream goodness!
What,? Any proof of that statement?
@@jackiesicilian5720 lol, I’ve done my own research and experiments. I suggest you do the same if you want to witness the benefits of drinking milk. I give my dog milk every time she gets bad breath, usually this is a sign of bad bacteria overgrowth in the stomach, milk clears it right up. Also, diarrhea after drinking milk is a good sign. It means the bad bacteria is getting flushed out, if people continue to drink milk they will notice their bowl movements return to normal.
@@jackiesicilian5720 also, it’s important to drink milk with your dinner. It slows the digestion and the body is able to absorb more nutrients. This is especially important with children. Many people don’t realize that our gut bacteria controls our moods and attention span. If the gut bacteria(yeast) are kept under control you will see improvements in your children’s behavior and attention span. Also most of the population have never been fully and properly nourished.
@JeremeyHowlett regular milk,? but what if it gives you gas, stomach issues like dairy intolerance?
@@jackiesicilian5720 I drink whole milk. You need to be careful where you eat and what you eat. Sometimes food can be contaminated and that could through your gut bacteria off big time. Just a month ago I ate at this restaurant and the pork sandwich they served me was dripping with a ton of oil. Whatever was in that oil caused me to have severe gas and stomach problems. I saved a small portion for my dog and she had the same issues and her whole lower body broke out in oozing and scabs. Some say it was something else, but I’ve had my dog for ten years and I know everything she eats, and I pick up every single poop she makes, I know when something is off. It took us two weeks to get back to normal. Usually drinking beer will help clear up your gut issues when your having severe gas continuously while only eating regular foods. Also, you need to be careful out there. There’s a reason that yeast packets are watched closely in stores, some have said that giving a person yeast packets in their foods makes them more irritable, confused and hazy. Usually gangs do this to people when they are trying to destroy a persons mental health. I guess the yeast overgrowth in the digestive tract makes the food go right through you, not giving your body a chance to absorb all the nutrients. Sad, what this world has come to. Hopefully people open their eyes and pay attention to the people that surround them, especially if you have large amounts of wealth, these children from incest have serious problems with controlling themselves. Many will need to be put on house arrest away from the general population.
Im dutch i can drink a whole cow a day.😂
