I have mad respect for this Indigenous man and how he is incorporating his culture into techno music! I am always pleased to see Indigenous people embracing their culture and heritage when they have gone through cultural genocide and many of them are quite displaced and removed from their Indigeniety.
I love this. As an indigenous person myself who is also in the electronic crowd, I've always had a weird feeling about there not being more people who were of actual cultures sharing their music. I'll forever be thankful for you guys being an example and someone others can look to. Thank you for bringing much needed diversity to the industry. ♡
As a Māori DJ who mixes my cultural instruments with House and Techno, it makes me so happy seeing our indigenous friends overseas doing similar things. I have to admit I audibly laughed at the scene where his dad was describing Joshua's rebellious childhood wanting to be a doctor, until he finally chose a sensible profession as a DJ!
nice to see this developement in the north, in south america, mostly argentina chile peru and colombia since the end of the 2000s decade theres a new heavy by native music influenced electronic styles coming up if anyone is interested the most produced style is cumbia digital from groups like lulacruza, dengue dengue dengue, faunaa, chancha via circuito,la yegros, mateo kingman ,lido pimienta would be nice to see if canadian would collab with south american natives and create a new fresh sound connecting the 2 continents north and south america greetings from argentina
Timely as I recently found DJ Shub's 'Indomitable'(featured at 7:33) Brilliant dancing. Def going to look into Classic Roots. Thank you for boosting his story. Wonderful sound!
As a Canadian, the treatment, crime, and poverty in the aboriginal community is disgraceful. It’s something we Canadians really don’t like to talk or think about.
Well we have the federal government to blame, they have caused all the problems that plague the Indigenous communities. The government has also worked really hard in deflecting responsibility for the genocide they committed and allow the perceived narrative that a cultural of poverty, alcoholism, substance abuse problems are the Indigenous people's own fault. However, from the inception of the Indian Act of 1874, Canada has had one goal in mind: Get rid of the Indian. By using forced assimilattionist practices such as residential schools, the 60s scoop and the creation of reserves, the Canadian federal government has done of stellar job of creating a generational legacy of strife for Indigenous people.
I would have totally danced the night away in the club if this came on. Keep up the great beats and I hope he brings the music to everyone. Wishing him all the success!
What an interesting inversion of the classic trope where the parent wants the kid to be a doctor and not do arts, but instead here the kid wanted to be a doctor and then ended up doing music like his dad.
there's soooo much indigenous cultural things first nation people have to offer that is majorly untapped. it should be larger than just about every other ethnicity in north america. it's such and oppressed/suppressed way of life that is the soul of the entire continent that should be a driving force as to what it is to be uniquely north american. not left over european ideals. every city should have indian town. there should be that big of a presence. life on the res should be elevated. i don't like the public at large (including myself) being made ignorant of the depth, vastness, and uniqueness of the native peoples. there needs to be big influential leaders from the various tribes to step forward to inspire everyone. they need larger than life heroes. they don't have the michael jordan's, or MLK jr's to usher in a new era of change. i'd love for natives to innovate in ways that others want to emulate and adapt, not the other way around. they should have that contribution exported to the world.
You guys need to do a feature on rohail hayat. How that man single handedly created a genre of music in south asia, gave the world the 'coke studio brand' and fought the terrorists ruining the concert and performing culture by creating a music show that celebrates classic musical tradition and collaboration and brings music fallen out of fashion in fresh ways so youth can appreciate culture. U guys need to do a feature on rohail hayat okay.
sounds like a cool plan..Don't be angry if the Germans say Indian a lot..They actually have a day in the year that they call Cowboy and Indian Day. Where they dress up in what they believe is accurate...but is not
"First Nations" what lmao? Pretty sure the actual "first nations" were in the middle east not North America. Couldn't they have thought of a better, more accurate name?

The music might not be everyone's cup of tea, nonetheless this man is a trailblazer! I will give credit where it's due and it's nice to see a First Nations man branching out and creating a path of success!
Glad this guy is embracing his Indigenous heritage and using his culture in his song

@@aus-li listen to a podcast called Thunder Bay. Its just a small glimps .. So horrible how they have been treated

United States too! We aren't taught the history and how horribly savage the settlers were towards the native peoples.

Maybe he didnt mean it literally or as in First Nations [of North America] but the longer title doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely ...?
Here in Canada First Nations is the proper term to refer to the Indigenous people of the nations that existed here before settlers came
