  • Gene Pollock was a part of I Field Force, Vietnam, during his time overseas. After receiving artillery training, Gene was quickly sent to Vietnam in November 1969. He was expecting to go to Germany instead. Gene served in fire direction control throughout the year he was overseas. In early October 1970, he had the privilege of going home early. Thank you for your service and welcome home, Gene. Contact me at lukeb.filmperia@gmail.com if you know a veteran I could interview via Zoom.

Glad you made it home Gene, hope you are well. I got there October 1968 and was sent to be a Forward Observer for 1st 46th Infantry of the 198th Light Infantry Brigade till May 1969. In May I became a Fire Direction Officer for B Battery 1st 14th Artillery. If you were in a 4 gun battery I would guess you were in the Americal Division.

My first impression was also the heat, humidity, and smell. I thought to myself that I had entered hell.
