Very disappointed, was in between what headset I was going to get. Wait for the reverb g2, 8kx, or 8k+. After some back and forth I decided to go with the 8k+ with the valve controllers. I went on today to order and saw that bundle is no longer available for 8k+. How frustrating!
Yeah, I think I just decide to stick with the G2, wish there would of been a heads up about the 8k+ bundle going away on your website, would of made my decision quicker. That just costed you a sale Pimax.
I got rid of my pimax 5k+. Absolute garbage software support and terrible build quality for the price. You can't even find the PI tool easily on their website. You have to go through reddit to figure anything out. Outer shell started chipping with minimal use. It took me longer to fire up each game than actually play them. I went back to my much cheaper Samsung Odyssey plus and looking forward to either upgrading to an Index or HP reverb G2.

my fault: Nordic Ren and Robin Weng (founder) are both CEO of pimax. (But Nordic was not seen very often and his face appears quite new to us.)

has the binocular overlap issue been improved on the 8kx? the 5k+ was very evident.
The thin foam is needed with all headsets! I have a 8k plus and optical issue is worse then my 5k plus due to that thick foam and when I tried a 8k x at the Orlando road show I noticed the same optical issues that I get on my 8k plus.
Its like looking sideways through a window.... there's a point where you start noticing the glass and picture degrades. The thin foam fixes all this
I had a vive, upgraded to a 5k+ best money on computer components I ever spent. Cant wait for the 8kX, i am interested on how much further you can push the refresh rate in native mode on it.
And please, hand tracking for DCS!
Im glad to hear that Tom, thanks! :) We are still working to bump up the refresh rate above 75Hz in native mode. Its not impossible, it just takes time and once we succeed, we will let you know!
Does DCS now support hand tracking? Actually I didnt know about that! Thanks
@@SweViver DCS has support for the Capto Glove, but thats it, I think they need a dev unit to put support into DCS.
@@kazansky22 I have personally tried a 8k x and have a 8k plus. It was amazing comapaired to the all the other headsets I've tried man and I've almost tried and owned them all including a index....

Im at work so excuse me for asking this if its already answered in the video. How to i trade in my 5k+ for a 8kx and how much would it be? and being a backer that is supposed to get the controllers and base stations if i traded would it cancel getting my controllers? (Backer 3223 ks)
Excellent work on the Pimax experience. This is exactly what I need. So hard to get the Pimax up and running properly. Cloud profiles, etc. Nice one Martin. Looking forward to the X even more now.

if the eye tracker needs to be plugged in on the bottom of the unit, how will we use hand tracking with dynamic foveated experiences? is it possible to use some kind of 2 port usb hub to get this done?

Thats something we are working on. There will be workarounds with the 8KX. Its unfortunate we had to take this path, but it was necessary to avoid delaying the product even more by re-making the housing and tooling.

The Eye tracking 7invensun module will be available for orders soon. We will start with orders for backers anytime now, following orders from everyone else. We will keep you updated! It starts to ship in July, so it wont take long :)
why cant i buy base stations of the pimax website? it says i have to buy a headset as well
Valve does not allow us to sell Base Stations separately. We only have a deal to sell their items in bundles.
Same for Index controllers. We dont make them. We buy them from Valve, following their terms.
asking about distortion is going to be very different at a road show then with someone who payed for the device and has had time to really test it. I have ordered the 8kX and I will give honest reports on any issues once I have had a chance to really test it for a decent amount of time, I hope your right
Do we know the price that the wireless module will be released at?
I backed the 5K+ and upgraded to 8KX, and I think its very disappointing that there is no official prescription lens frame available, especially since this was an original stretch goal - now completely cancelled.

I just wear my glasses under in it.
They mentioned the eye tracking frames can be fitted with prescription lenses. The tracking sensors are around the frames so the inside can be glass/plastic lenses.

Am I the only one here who wants the improved headset/comfit kit combo BUT isn't bothered about built-in speakers (so think SMAS/KDMAS/DMAS less speakers). A lot of fo people probably want to use their own headphones without the extra expense of speakers (which will probably be inferior). It's a shame because I love the new fixing design and it is much better value than the VR comfort kit (which looks like its just foam replacement)
You are probably not the only one, but the majority of backers and people have always prioritized the Audio Straps over the other accessories, so thats why we have put so much efforts to make these final and start to ship them.
@@SweViver Thanks, I appreciate that's the fair way of doing things. It looks like Pimax had the foresight to make the speakers modular (as per video 1) so a blanking plate/plug would be an easy option *hint hint*. Rather than work in feelings any chance of an official Pimax poll on Open VR to gauge peoples interest to assess commercial viability?
So you can't even use the eye tracker and hand tracking at the same time???? Who is designing these things?

I supported this company since day one for the 8k and 5k ... or almost...put in trust!....and now, I don’t get the fans module and what more? Most thing I look forward is the MAS! When will I get it? And I want to have the comfort kit, which I obviously have to buy seperatly?!?... but this is only available at resellers, there I can’t use my vouchers...,what’s all about this, what can I do?.... really the only thing is, I want the MAS and the Comfort Kit to have a great feeling. Love the HMD... what can I do? When will I get this things..?
can someone please save us 1 hour 20 minutes and just post when the 8kx will ship?
I saw booth videos and what they said is, all original 8kx backers should get a tracking number in july and iirc the rest in august.

@SweViver I've a additional question (or a suggestion). I've seen now the part of the new Pimax VR Experience some times.. Have you considered at Pimax that there are apps that start in parallel to a game or an app and should therefore be profile-free? "FpsVR" is e.g. such an app. Accordingly, it should be possible to start FpsVR without a profile or as a kind of sub-profile, so that the actual game and its profile is more important.
I have the Pimax 5k plus and I am satisfied. Now 144hz is better. They are not perfect, however they are reasonable. I put on two face foam and now it's better. Now I'm going to bet on the HP reverb G2, for me the sharpest resolution is important. I hope the HP Rever G2 will not disappoint. I want to believe that it is really the best image quality.
Thanks for your input mate. But you really should try the 8KX after you got your G2 ;) You will be surprised!
@SweViver, at 1:06:16 you're saying that eye tracking (and DFR) is not a requirement for the 8KX, since games usually run fine - but you tested on a 2080 Ti. What about people who have e.g. a 2060? You cannot generally claim "eye tracking is not really necessary, I tested games without and they were fine" while testing on the best graphics card available.
But he isn't wrong ether! DFR is not a requirement for the 8kx, you can still use it without it. As you can always reduce the in game graphic settings or fov or the resolution, if your graphics card can't handle it. I for example run my 5k+ with a gtx 1060 and i would also say it runs fine, but not ideal. So he is right, you don't NEED eye tracking for it to work. The same as you don't need an upcoming RTX 3080 ti, but it is recommended to get the full potential of the headset. 😉
I would personally say a 2080 or 2080Ti is my recommendation for the 8KX. At least a 1080. With 2060, you wont be able to enjoy the 8KX, at least if you play more serious VR games and sims. You can play Job Simulator and simple stuff even on the GTX 1050 with 8KX, but thats maybe not the optimal purpose for this headset, right?
Will I need to be an I.T. specialist to use this DAM thing ?
Absolutely not. Pimax is plug and play, and will be so even more, as soon as the Pimax VR Experience is released in July,
@SweViver, regarding wireless, could you ask your engineers if the data rate would be acceptable for wireless transfer when using foveated rendering and applying a stronger lossy compression to the image area the player is not looking at?
Thats something I have forwarded to the engineers, and we will add this in the next Q&A episode and also discuss in the Pimax forums

8KX Oled plizzzzz!
One day maybe... currently OLED cant compete with LCD when it comes to resolution and refresh rate.
@@SweViver I have 6 VR helmets including Pimax 5 plus, I stopped using it first of all because of terrible black and gloss, I forgave him for distortions at the edges and much more but not that ... Now the main helmet I use is Samsung Odyssey + and Oculus Quest, in Half-life Alex, only in them the perfect Lcd dive is generally useless in dark scenes especially .... This is just as unacceptable for me as LG TVs compared to Qled Samsung ...
@@SweViver I assure you that if Pimax does 4k by eye with Oled displays it will be a bestseller ... Well, ideally, distortions would be removed along the edges like in Star vr ...))
pimax is an excellent item. i don t understand the comments below. but probably pimax is not for all.
Keep denying that there is no distortion on the Pimax is going to come back and bite you in the ass.
The topic is huge because it is there, its not good to keep saying I don't see it, so its not there.
1 of 20 people complain about distortion. It exists, but its a problem 95% of people dont have, and thats what Im saying in the video. Also, did you try the 8KX with Comfort kit?
@@SweViver Well then you need to keep Keven from opening his mouth. he keeps saying that you went though hundreds of people at CES and none of them saw distortion.

Kevin is a great speaker, and I think Im the person who often talk over him hehe, I apologize for that... It might be because of the small delay talking over Skype also.
Sorry, Pimax sucks, as a backer of the 5k+ with defective cable pimax ignores my mails. When can i have my stretch goals???? Never????
My 5k+ is quite distorted. Switching between the Vive and the Pimax it is quite visible. And I don't only mean the distortion in the periphery. The whole image is kind off warped.

Mine isn't, the edge used to be in older pitools, but the last few months zero distortions.
It sounds like you havent dialed in yoru correct IPD number. Please check up your IPD value visiting an optician. Its very important with all wide FOV headsets
@@SweViver I tried the whole scale of IPD settings. I stuck with the best one. Still switching from the Vive to the Pimax is a tremendous loss in "normality" of image geometry. I also have a DK2, a GearVR, and an Oculus CV1. I know what I am talking about. I have also been working with VR professionally and have visited several VR arcades.
Maybe I need a different face foam as the first commenter said. But Pimax did not give me any alternative. :)
Saying the Pimax image is not distorted for anyone is like telling the old lie of the 200° "diagonal" FOV, which is physically/mathematically impossible. Nothing but marketing talk.
Maybe PiMAX should stop releasing headsets before they even ship their last headset. SMH
If they didn't release this you would say, "why don't they release the 8KX they sold to Kickstarter backers in 2017."
We have not released any new headset since last Pimax Day. Artisan Limited Edition is the same headset but using same housing and Comfort Kit as 8K+ and 8KX.
By the way,. how is the XTAL doing?
