Can you tell me a good online store to buy cool season seeds???? At the home depot or lowes I only find mixes containing ryegrass and maybe I'm informed wrong but this is not a re-grow seed as like the Kentucky blue and tall fescue???
My lawn is in Disarray, after years of neglect with the mind set of "its just grass" I got tired of looking at a dead unkempt lawn and started my research. After a few hours of scouring the web I stumbled across your channel, and my goodness what a god send you are sir! Its time to dominate my neighbors lawns!
Every time for the last couple of years, when I have a question about a lawn, I seek out Allyn Hane. I've probably watched that church lawn video up in Indiana about a dozen times over the course of a couple of years. I FINALLY subscribed today and signed up for email updates. I can also attest to the Earthway spreader, having the very same one Allyn has. Great product.
Been on the lcn team for over a year. This video reminds me of stuff from the past. Glad to have you back. Miss getting updates on your lawn. Take us into your lawn show us the good and the bad. Enjoying your journey as a fan. I don’t always need facts. Just hanging out in your yard with ya is a good time. Aloha
Best advice I ever got in my 15 years as a homeowner trying to dominate was from you... to use soil from MY property for my renovation projects!! I borrowed a homemade dirt sifting rig from my neighbor (the "scalper"😂)- tilled up some areas not yet established- shoveled tilled soil onto the screened sifter rig that I laid over my wheelbarrow- threw a little black Kow a peat moss (why not?)- mixed it up and threw her down where spot seeding and leveling was needed. It worked so much better than the crap soil I spent 100's of dollars on! You rock!
New to all this-thank you! Went down to the Big Box store, bought the chemical and sprayer, and got it done! Please continue videos like this to help inexperienced guys like us!
2nd year kentucky. I've worked it down to 5/8ths over 4 mows. 2 mows a week. Sand put down earlier in the season to level out. Thatch rake used. I bag every other mow. Absolutely satisfied. Careful working down to that heiht. Make sure your ground is nearly perfectly level.
Great video Allyn. I love that you keeping in mind that much like college, a new group of students are always arriving. As a graduate of LCN university I really enjoyed sitting in on a good ol' 101 lecture. Thanks for everything you do for this community!
Your videos make me enjoy cutting the yard and saving money and not hiring a lawn care guy. I work from 8-15 a day and when I get the chance I still love doing my lawn! Thanks!
Thanks so much for the help. I moved into a home 2 years ago, and the lawn is enormous, half an acre. It’s in terrible condition, and I am feeling overwhelmed. This helped me take a deep breath and just try baby steps!
I wanna move to Florida. ...be your neighbor....and have a cold beer with you!!lol!! Dude you rock!! So down to earth, informative and hilarious! ! Love it! Hope life is good to you forever! Thank you for all your AWESOME info!!
I have a front lawn and back lawn both about 5,000 sqft. I usually use two bags of Milo and set me spreader at the setting so the holes are just bigger than the Milo particle size and do two passes perpendicular to each other. That way I get some good exercise and even coverage.
Dude, I really appreciate this channel. We just bought our first house and our yard is a mess. Thanks to you I can dominate my lawn so my children can play on it
Thanks for all of the information. I'm a first time home owner and this year I decided to take care of my lawn by myself and learn. By the way greetings from Nixa, Mo.
Had to stop the video at 10:40 to LMAO and clap. Wiping away tears I'm laughing so hard. Love the way you slipped that in. I hope I can concentrate the rest of the video...lol.
pretty much has helped me revive the lawn on the house we just bought. Videos are edited great, easy to watch, and very informative. Even from a cool season lawn person.
"Frickin' Pterodactyls, man." Lol That was funny... and not far from the truth. I love Sandhill Cranes. Orlando dude here, trying to recover my ugly lawn and you are a BIG help. Thank you.
You my friend are a great help to us new guys. This isn’t the first video I’ve watched of yours. Prolly watched most of them so far. Anyways I decided to take back my lawn about a month ago. Thank you for all these very well made videos. SO MUCH INFO!!
Yes it is like cable reruns! Love every one. Been watching since there were 30K subs. Freaking awesome. Learn new stuff even from the reruns. More than one neighbor has asked what i'm doin, and I've lived here 32 years. Keep it up Allyn! Luv ya. Good luck! BTW, the wife just bought me a brand new Recycler for early Fathers Day so I can pick up the pace on the DOMINATION! Damn I love her!
Appreciate all your tips & humor in the videos. Made a list to my husband of "yard toys" I'd like to use. In a transition zone close to coast and what you said is spot on having a variety of grass. We all need to put stock into home improvement and lawn centers. Husband has to drag me out and reel me in home. Also an early morning wheat grass drinker. Like my grass high and tight. I wish all these products you've recommended would sponsor you.
I don’t know how you did it but I am really into my lawn now and it is looking full and beautiful! I have people stopping and asking me how I keep my lawn so green and honestly I haven’t even put the Milorganite down yet!! I am still convincing the wife so need a new lawn mower so PLEASE do the Toro Super Recycler vs the Honda comparison soon!!
pretty cool video, for my st Augustine here in Dallas I hand dig all my weeds, only use lime in the spring ( sometimes gypsum if its hand a ton of foot traffic) and iron 1x in may then again in july, mow & bag every other week with super sharp blade at tallest height. The spray companies stop by and ask who's spraying my yard for weeds and neighbors are jelous lol
My wife and I just bought a new house and unfortunately the previous owners didn't care for the lawn at all. I'll have to use everything I've learned from this channel to dominate my new neighbors!
Allyn I applied Milo just before our last frost here in MA. The temps are finally getting warmer. This will be my second year using it. Yes I did dominate my neighborhood:-)
I just ordered an Earthway 2600a Plus they have been out of stock for a while, and when I stopped in ACE to look around today I found one of those Cane Weed Torches on the rack, I picked it up as well as a few bottles of white gas and got to work. I was torching weeds for a few hours, and the bottle is still half full. The brass tip is a little cooked but it worked great, and I can probably get a replacement if need be.
Finally I know what grass I have it’s AUGUSTINE GRASS!!! Thanks. I just did my first cut of the year 4/28/18 I was going to cut my grass every week/bio week, but to make it better every 4 days. Thanks for the tips!!!!
How about Seeding. I am in MA and as a fairly new homeowner, and knowing nothing about lawn care, I was attacked by grubs last summer and now have more weeds than before due to a lot of dead grass and bare spots. My front yard is still OK, but my back yard needs a lot of work. (weeds, clovers, moss, etc. I have it now) I am kicking myself because when I moved in, the lawn looked great. I don't know if I should or if its to late to go around and overseed and patch all the bare spots or If i should just work on fertilizing, spraying weeds, then plant and overseed in the fall. Your videos have inspired me to become a lawn care nut and I have learned a lot so far.
If your tuning in from the cold season zone in Canada don't forget to re-spackle your front yard curling rink at least weekly. And you back yard ice rink will need a bi-weekly flooding.
New subscriber. Your videos popped up in my feed after I already destroyed my lawn. Just hoping now that my St. Augustine will recover. Just applied 25 bags of lawn soil to all my bare and dead spots. Hoping that water and no mowing for a couple weeks will help.
You rock man! Started last year and with your tips went from a large bare spot on side to nice and green yard all in a year. Didn’t think it was possible. I see all my neighbors paying to have big company to take care of lawn and mine looks better. Now I’m torn, my neighbors are asking for my help but do I help or continue to dominate? Lol keep the videos coming. Downloaded the guide this weekend. Now I’m set for years to come. We're buying 23 acres of farm land. Now to make it one big domination spot. Lol
I loved the Knute Rockne style pep talk about Bermuda... “get it on the run and keep it on the run, and we’re not gonna pass unless the dandelions come up too close”
I came here for “just the tips” but had quite a laugh at your edging technique. Which I understand why you do it that way, avoid kicking up rocks or anything else right into the shins or filling your work boots with grass and dirt. Last summer working as a landscaper in Orlando one of my homeowners decided to put rocks basically where I edge, they tried to stuff em down next to the patio so the grass was hiding em. Long story short I sent a rock right through their all glass back door. Good times and a nice $400 bill to pay. Hey, actually that’s a good tip, don’t use rocks without having a nice coping/retainer edge to keep em separated from your lawn. That’s again LCN!
no beginner here. i'm taking over my moms lawn. nobody has done anything but mow since 2006. I have dethatched it, aerated it, limed and fertilized it. all the neighbors come down and talk to me about what I have done. she had fescue 31 grass. it now has that great blue hue to it that it should have. I limed it because it was at a 7.1, I now have it at a 6.2. I started out about 2 monthes ago with the lime and 10-10-10. 2 weeks ago I put the early spring scotts turf builder with weed control on it. I have enough scotts spring with weed control for my next fertilizing. then in august I will do the summer. October I will do the fall. no matter what you think you know, there is always room for improvement. the day we stop learning is the day we die. I own the aerator and dethatcher and a lawn sweeper. I sweep the lawn two days after mowing and plan to put all the clippings between the roles of the garden we are growing there this year. at the end of the garden season I will plow the grass under. after plowing I will cover the garden with the leaves off her trees. I will cover the entire garden spot with a tarp over the winter. in the spring I will plow it all under again. I think it should be the best garden spot going after two years of working on it with natural clippings and leaves covered over during the winter months. tarps will be black so they heat up some.
Joshua Mitchell I did that today for the first time as well and can’t wait to see the results. I spent 3 hours letting an aerator kick by ass right before that, never again.
One caveat re: recommended cutting height for bermuda grass.... My bermuda is a tiff-type that our university extension recommends cutting at 1/2" to 3/4". Last year I cut it at 1-1/4" in the front yard and 2-1/2" in the backyard and the difference in weed control is drastic...virtually no weed growth in the frontyard (shorter cut) and weeds galore in the back (longer cut). Both yards received the same preemergent treatments. Low-height bermuda really needs to stay low, low, low. This year I'll be staying in recommended range.
Thanks for doing this video. I am one of those new lawn care nuts. I've been following for a couple months now and sometimes feel overwhelm with the info. So I appreciated the break down. I bought me a new earth way spreader and an edge hog. So I'm feeling pretty fancy. I did my first app of Milo. Getting ready to get my domination on! I'm just trying to figure out how this all happened to me??? I'm loving lawn care.
Putting a blade on a lawn mower. One, put your lawnmower on its side with the oil drain down and air filter up. Unplug the spark plug wire. Rotate the blade adapter so it is vertical. Put your blade on with the cutting edge to the left and the lift to the right. Install bolt and tighten to 40# torque with a torque wrench. I put anti-sieze on the bolt, beforehand. Turn it back over on its wheels and reattach the spark plug wire.
I got quack grass and every kind of 1970's hard to walk on lawn grass you can think of. I'm gonna scalp it this fall and try to crowd it out with every type of modern TTTF and PRG and KBG and mow high next year. Sounds like a good strat instead of smoking it.
Hey Allyn, long time viewer and finally getting started with this year's lawn program up here in MN. My main question is, how should I handle the leaf spot that attacked my yard last year? Should I mow super low for my first cut and cut as much out as possible? Scalp it maybe? I applied fungicides last year. Many thanks and keep up the great vids!
Thank you so much, love your videos, they are very informational... I binged watch alot your videos and have started to work on my lawn with your tips.. Took before pics now waiting for results... Thank you for being very clear and detailed. #teamlawncarenut
Enjoyed video, I am in south Texas and I have St. Aug. my highest mower setting is 3.5 inches and I have been mowing at 2.5 inches all this time. I thought was high but I am going to try higher setting and see what happens. Thanks.
What I did when I first started, was to measure the yard, and write down what I put down in what month and what to do ( water or if it has to be dry). I have that hanging up. Im on my third year, but I have zoysia, and I hate it. Feels like I have to start fresh every year. lol
Milorganite is great! I've definitely dominated the entire neighborhood. But, it's growing so fast, I have to mow the lawn every two days! I've got the mower set to its highest setting which is 4" on my mostly rye/ bluegrass lawn
Everybody is prolly gonna hate me but I called the man this year. He's already put down the pre emergent down his season process is granular first, liquid second, granular 3rd, liquid 4th, granular 5th there may be a sixth app but can't remember. If I was able to out my ads into it I would I just can't that would lay me up a week damn chronic pain. At least in can mow with my toro with infinite speeds
Oh and we couldnt beat the price 240 for the year in was spending more than that and I couldn't get rid of all the weeds this guy guarantees ZERO WEEDS this year
My neighbor threw down weed n feed the other day, at $50/bag. He is the kind of guy who only talks to you when he wants to brag about new expensive purchases, such as renovations and riding lawn mowers. His grass wasn't even wet, but I didn't say anything. I threwer down some milo, which costed me $2/bag (big bag). We'll see who wins in a few weeks!
youngnintogaining i searched for the sku in walmart databases across the region. I found several bags at a walmart on 2 neglected pallets. It was feb out of season and they clearanced it to get it out. Some were broken or leaking and i negotiated to take all bags off their hands. I have 60 or so bags lol.
Can’t believe I should be mowing centipede at 3”. My cooperative extension says not to go above 1.5” and unfortunately, I’ve listened to them for two years. Going to switch is up and see if the increased height helps get my grass nice again.
Bought my first house. I’ve been pulling out my hair because my lawn looks like crap! This video is so helpful! I’ve just subscribed to a lawn care channel!?
My wife and I just bought a house in Bradenton about a year ago and the lawn is in bad shape. Lots of weeds, crabgrass and a variety of grass species. I was not sure where to start until I saw this video. Step one, I’m going to take some samples down to my local garden center. Do you recommend one in the Bradenton and Palmetto area? Also, I work part time at the Home Depot in Bradenton, the one on 64. The next time you’re in swing by the plumbing department, I would really enjoy meeting you. My name is Rich. Thank you for the great videos!
Growing a lawn in the California dessert is much more of a pain than growing grass in Florida! Palm springs golf courses are maintained by the best interest the business.
Thanks for the basic info/refreshet course, Allyn. It never hurts to repeat and review what you know (or think you know). I have two basic questions My yard doesn't look nearly as nice as yours and with it being springtime my yard is full of weeds. It's not like your yard with a weed here and there. There are patches of weeds. I have been spraying weed killer and I think it is killing the weed patches. When the weeds are dead should I pull up just the visible portion of the weed or should I try to dig up the entire weed patch, roots and all. If I only pull up the visible portion of the weeds doesn't that leave the weed roots in the soil for further germination? How do I grow grass where the weed patches were after clearing the weeds? Just throw down some grass seed, fertilize and water? Will that weed patch come back again? Is this a never ending cycle of weeds in my yard? I put down prodiamine(granular) this year in mid-March with little effect on the weeds. Second question and hopefully an easier one for you - I'm in a cool season area (STL) and would like to grow tall fescus. You continually say that you grew turf ttpe tall fescue when you were living in IN. Scotts makes a tall fescue grass seed, but it is not turf type tall fescue. The Scotts brand seems to be a thinner type of tall fescue. What is the difference between the thinner type of tall fescue and the turf type tall fescue? Why do you prefer the turf type tall fescue? What brand(s) of turf type tall fescus seeds do you recommend and where are they typically sold? I know thise are.a couple of complex questions for you. I very much appreciate any help/info you can offer. Thanks, Allyn!
This video is like Seinfeld reruns on cable. I know all the stuff, but I still watch it's that good. 😉
Robert Sanden exactly been watching awhile but this is great motivation to throw er down!
Robert Sanden sometimes, usually in the bleak mid-winter, I go back and watch his library from the beginning.
Nailed it!
Can you tell me a good online store to buy cool season seeds???? At the home depot or lowes I only find mixes containing ryegrass and maybe I'm informed wrong but this is not a re-grow seed as like the Kentucky blue and tall fescue???
Seed SuperStore is one that Allyn would recommend but i haven't ordered from them. I use a local lawn and garden store.
The video is 6 year old and still GOLD!!! I watch it every new season as a reminder.

Because of your channel, I created mine. The Dominator Babe. I Dominate everything in my life, and make everyone jealous. 👊💪
Mowing your lawn more often is hands down the most underrated tip in this video. Doing that alone will make a visible difference in 2 weeks
New to all this-thank you! Went down to the Big Box store, bought the chemical and sprayer, and got it done! Please continue videos like this to help inexperienced guys like us!
I’ve followed your advise on my new Florida lawn and so far I’m dominating my neighbors, best lawn out of 40 new homes.

Dude, I really appreciate this channel. We just bought our first house and our yard is a mess. Thanks to you I can dominate my lawn so my children can play on it

a masterpiece of slippage ! This guy is smooth, i am a subscriber now !
Lmao same bro
pretty much has helped me revive the lawn on the house we just bought. Videos are edited great, easy to watch, and very informative. Even from a cool season lawn person.
Glad you're doubling back to include more nuts! I got my dad on Milo last fall and ill just say I'm glad he's not my neighbor!
"Frickin' Pterodactyls, man." Lol That was funny... and not far from the truth. I love Sandhill Cranes. Orlando dude here, trying to recover my ugly lawn and you are a BIG help. Thank you.
Great video. My neighbor is obsessed with your videos, I can see why. Awesome advise👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Proud American ah, so you are one of the people we dominate! How does is feel uh, how does it feel ???? 🤣

Allyn I applied Milo just before our last frost here in MA. The temps are finally getting warmer. This will be my second year using it. Yes I did dominate my neighborhood:-)
I will wear my Lawn Care Nut hat and DOMINATE MY NEIGHBORS!!!
What a great video! I've been around for a few years now and this was still such a great reinforcement of crucial practices. 10/10

Best lawn content in UA-cam hands down! Keep it up brotha
Got a little giddy finally getting to see you edge at the end. Pimp lines, man. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for making this video. It is easy to follow and gave me some great tips. I have been lost on how to fix my lawn.
I will definitely be using the phrase "goof proof" from now on. Love the videos!

I will cover the entire garden spot with a tarp over the winter. in the spring I will plow it all under again. I think it should be the best garden spot going after two years of working on it with natural clippings and leaves covered over during the winter months. tarps will be black so they heat up some.
Put my first application ever of Milorganite today. Can’t wait to see the results. Thanks for all the tips.
Joshua Mitchell I did that today for the first time as well and can’t wait to see the results. I spent 3 hours letting an aerator kick by ass right before that, never again.
I expected instant results when I first started using it. The magic will start no sooner than a week after application, but it will happen.
Just did the same! Just felt the need to say me too. Thanks for all the tips, LCN!
Hey LCN, you should get a time lapse camera for the lawn. That would make for some sweet footage for showing results over time after treatments.
Great video Al! This will get some more folks motivated to DOMINATE!
Just bought a new home so thanks for the tips!!!!
Awsome way to get back to the basics man! Looked like you had fun as well! 😁. Thanks man!
Yep, I tell my wife that too ;) Great video, Allyn. Thank u
A good video to use as a reminder for the things I need to work on.
i know everything you said i my grass is superb, but i enjoy watching your videos and subscribed! grt stuff
Southern lawn running milo, prodiamine, celsius/blindside. Great results. Learned everything from LCN
Do you have any issues with Dallisgrass grass or had? Wondering if your Celcious/blindside combo help with the Dallisgrass? Thx
julio CS only some, out of the two Blindside has worked better for me, Celsius does knock it back but it's a tough weed to kill.
You have the best vids on UA-cam.🇺🇸
Thanks for doing this video. I am one of those new lawn care nuts. I've been following for a couple months now and sometimes feel overwhelm with the info. So I appreciated the break down. I bought me a new earth way spreader and an edge hog. So I'm feeling pretty fancy. I did my first app of Milo. Getting ready to get my domination on! I'm just trying to figure out how this all happened to me??? I'm loving lawn care.
Very awesome and helpful information, especially for me as a new home owner 👍... thanks for the tips especially the basic ones.
Awesome tips as always, Mr. Hane! Gotta love how you subconsciously hold that marker around 2:33 just like a stogie. lol
Feels like I have to start fresh every year. lol
If you're in the south, Bermuda is soooo nice. During the growing season, it feels like you're walking on a soft, shag carpet.
Hey allyn thanks for the quick down and dirty refreasher
"freaking pterodactyls man..." LOL
Killed me with that one lol
Milorganite is great! I've definitely dominated the entire neighborhood. But, it's growing so fast, I have to mow the lawn every two days! I've got the mower set to its highest setting which is 4" on my mostly rye/ bluegrass lawn
Cold weather grass in Northern Michigan. Going to use Miloranite this week after a long cold winter.
We'll see who wins in a few weeks!
buy him a beer and let him smell your success
$2 bag? where?.
This. I can't find for lower than $11 at Lowes
youngnintogaining i searched for the sku in walmart databases across the region. I found several bags at a walmart on 2 neglected pallets. It was feb out of season and they clearanced it to get it out. Some were broken or leaking and i negotiated to take all bags off their hands. I have 60 or so bags lol.
I will.
I told my wife "just the tip," and she said it wasn't going to be enough. I forgot we were still talking about cutting the grass.
My "wife" would be "SOL" that's all I got. All tip no shaft... 😳😂
Can’t believe I should be mowing centipede at 3”. My cooperative extension says not to go above 1.5” and unfortunately, I’ve listened to them for two years. Going to switch is up and see if the increased height helps get my grass nice again.
Just what I was looking for. Thanks LCN!
This video is ALL KINDS OF AWESOME!!! Thank you!!! Can you do a video on lawn tools? What kind of mover, edger, etc?
Thank you! Very helpful. I am a beginner and learned a lot.
Just put down my 1st app of milo here in the northern NJ. Got me the 6-4-0 new bags
I have Bermuda and I have been told 2". I used to mow it higher but the lawn care company said 2". I think it does better in the summer at 2.5"
"What would I tell my wife 10 in." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Growing a lawn in the California dessert is much more of a pain than growing grass in Florida! Palm springs golf courses are maintained by the best interest the business.
I freaking love this guy
I just wanted to say thank you - I'm in Canada so the products and grass are a little different but you have been a wealth of information!
Excellent video. Very informational!
