Here is a tip MLB fans (and fellow Dodger fans): Use r/mlbstreams. You can find threads for each game. Click on a link (most of them are safe, I reccomend finding the link for Sportshd and Bilasport) and watch the game on your laptop. You can plug in your HDMI cable in to the laptop and mirror it on your TV.

How about a list of one season wonders? Talking about the orioles made me think of Beady Anderson and his 50 HR season. I’m talking about guys who had one great year (or even two) surrounded by average of slightly below average play afterwards. Or even guys who sucked one they changed teams, like Mo Vaughn going to the angels, or Albert Pinole going to the angels, or josh Hamilton going to the angels, or... pretty much everyone the angels have signed in free agency.

  • @nathanlong5185
    @nathanlong5185 3 роки тому

There are a lot of players you missed, but I completely agree with your inclusion of Albert Pujols. As a Cardinals fan who grew up watching Albert in his prime, I was devastated to see him go, especially right after we won the WS. What's even more sad though is how I've watched him deteriorate from the most-feared hitter in the game to a mere shadow of his former self, it's been quite depressing really. And it's shocking how instantaneously upon his signing with the Angels this change became noticeable; he just never could find himself in LA

Albert was signed to make the angels money dawg. He built his legacy in St. Louis and the angels shelled out money for his legacy not his Homeruns. His name would lure many fans to park consistently along side with trout. They are gonna get their money back, and because he is a great player, they can even keep him on the field and batters box without having to hold a younger better player back due to contract fulfillment cause he is still very good at his old age.
This is a business, TV contracts are huge, but the foundation is putting asses in seats and selling merchandise and overpriced beer and food. Albert is a huge asset to those revenue streams, and as long as he is on the 40 man roster, he will make them more money than they are paying him.

    Yeah, I'm an Orioles fan.
The Davis contract is the Bonillia one for sure.
Typical Orioles strategy in giving that deal:
    --no pitching? Check

--have promising young stars in the system (Schoop and Machado)? Check
    What could possibly go wrong?

The Orioles had another worst contract back in 1991.
The gave up, three players for Glenn Davis. Not the least was Curt Schilling, Pete Harnish, and Steve Finley were what they paid for him. He was due for free agency at the end of the 1991 season.
The Orioles were expected to parlay the Davis deal into a championship at least, maybe a World Series win.
Early in the 1991 season, Davis suffered a shoulder injury. The Orioles ended up in last place.
But they signed him in the off season to a then-large contract: 6 million for three seasons.
During those four season, David played fewer than 180 games for the orioles. The orioles sucked that entire time. Rule 5 player Randy mIlligan became their regular first baseman.
    What a miserable deal.
    What a miserable contract.

Batting average alone does not tell enough of the story because it does not account for on base skills and events that occur for each batted ball. OPS, while not as all encompassing as wRC, is a more complete story. Nobody in the bigs hits for average anymore. As Josh Donaldson puts it, nobody pays you to hit groundballs.

Bryce Harper had a ton of pressure on him when he came to the Phillies but he will get better I'm sure in the future. He's a great outfielder and he has had some good moments batting. All of his haters wanted him which is funny

Jason Clark also people are judging him on half a season. At the end of the season he’ll have some pretty good stats, not “great” but pretty good. But it’s also year 1/13 he has a lot of time to prove he’s worth it. Also love or hate him, he brings people in the stands and gets ratings and people talking. Which in turn, makes the Phillies more money.
Note: I love Harper and want him to win the next 12 MVPs

Considering you put Jason Bay on there who is far as I know is not in the MLB anymore, I'm surprised you didn't mention Barry Zito considering how strong a picture he was with the A's. I do admit that there was some years where he was barely above 500 on good winning the A's teams, but a slight majority of his years were pretty damn good with that team including his final year and then he signed one of the largest contracts ever by a picture to join the Giants and isn't very good with them. I don't think he was like completely awful, he just was generally below average but there were a few years where he was atrocious and he most certainly did not live up to the value of his contract.

Way, way, way to easy on AP with the Angels! 30 Home Runs??? He's been exactly the same the last 3 or 4 years. 240-250 with 22 home runs!. Combine that with how slow he is and he's been a well below average 1st base for 70% of this contract!!

If I were the owner of the orioles I’d have a come to Jesus with Chris Davis:
I didn’t pay out to Hit singles. Good thing ‘cuz aren’t hitting singles.
I did pay you to hit homeruns. Lots of them. You ain’t hitting home runs so apparently I ain’t paying you to hit home runs.
It seems like I’m paying you to strike out. I must be crazy because nobody pays this kind of money for you to strike out.
You like strike outs so much? We’ll make you a pitcher because you can’t suck anymore at that than you do as a hitter.

Mariners old management sucked. Not to say Kyle Seager is bad, but he's largely average, but when he's over paid and IMPOSSIBLE to trade. They put in a trade clause that makes his last year contract a player option rather than a club option only if he's traded. Golly!

Cardinals lineup was better so it made Pujois better.
Also he left them at 31.
    He was prime with Cardinals.
4 -100 RBI seasons with Angels
He consistently got more RBIs then Trout. Most seasons.

Yu Darvish is an awful signing not so much the amount of money they offered but for how long they offered it. He was already aging but came off of a pretty solid season if we are being honest. A 2-3 year deal makes more sense to me personally and in hindsight with how bad he has struggled and his injury signing him in general was bad. Harper is NOT a 300m player especially when he has 5-6 years of his prime left before a decline and they will be paying him an arm and a leg until the dude is 39. Not to mention he hasn't really been a consistent player throughout the years like Pujols. He either hits .300+ or sub .250 and don't even get me started on the glove. On the bright side he has an ABSOLUTE cannon of an arm for all the balls that get past him. Machado is a more deserving player for a big contract like that but still isn't that great in the field. I would understand a team that could use a player like him paying that much for him but the Padres need a whole hell of a lot more help than one star player before they will be competing again and with a contract like that it's going to be hard to compete for a title unless they have some studs in the farm system. They pretty much crippled themselves for the next 10 years while the Phillies actually have a legitimate chance of being contenders for a title. Even then they really screwed themselves with that Harper contract in the long run.
