I must have watched about 40 superduke R reviews because it’s a lot of money to spend and there is so much great competition. This review was easily in the top 3 and maybe #1. As a prospective buyer this was full of very useful information that a lot of the other reviews overlooked. Thank you!
Really respect the KTM guy saying "if all you do is trackdays then maybe it's not the bike for you"... in the hypernaked class there are now multiple track oriented bikes that are pretty awesome (>200hp power, aggressive riding position), but IMO the KTM was always a bike that was designed for street use (gobs of torque, real midrange focus). I'm a Ducati guy and the 210-220hp Streetfighter appeals but I have no doubt that the SDR will be as quick or quicker for many street conditions with all that torque.
Torque will always make better street bike. My bestfriend we been riding when the original H2 750 was out,i think he had major mid life crisis purchased 2020 Fireblade, awful street bike, best for track only!
Excellent review! I love the little details like the switch gear, foot rest and shift lever explanation. I am considering this bike because it's more affordable compared to his competitors, at least here where I live. The base Streetfighter V4 and Z H2 are 5 thousand US dollars more at the current exchange rate. For the money I don't think I can get a better bike.
A great review, and I skipped a segment to get to the track action! I'm impressed with the all-around improvements making it so refined - especially the adjustable pegs and connecting area, quite unique isn't it? I've never seen such. With this one I'd loose my licence faster, and with the coming BMW 2020 S 1000 XR there is plenty of power yet more room for my wife to join and be comfortable.
Probably the best street sport bike ever made, with the worst turn signal indicator in the history of turn signal indicators. The feeling is a lot like realizing you just stepped in dog crap every time it must be used.
Hey brother I think this is it, comfort, electronics, torque what more can you ask. Do a review ASAP they are only bringing 3 in Ontario. Cheers you devoted subscriber 🇨🇦
I had the original Superduke (2015 model). I sold it because I didn't like the handling. It felt vague and lose when riding it quickly. Is this new one much better than the original?
Old comment I know, but the Gen 3.0 SDR is hardly even the same bike (90% new according to KTM). The original SDR is more of a Supermoto with an oversized engine, fun wheelie machine, but not really designed for speed. The 3.0 however is a proper sport naked with SUBSTANTIALLY better handling. I owned the 2014 for 2 years, and have owned the 2020 for 1 year, and were it not for the sound of the V-Twin, there would be nothing to tell me these were both SuperDuke's, because the Gen 3.0 is just miles ahead in every way.
So many great bikes now, but always having Kawasaki since the H1 500 to ZX-14 turbocharged, getting old this may be it. I was so disappointed yesterday they didn't have it yet here in Canada, in Ontario only 3 are coming.
I don't understand why they would put Michelin Power Cup2's on the 890R, which is probably the stickiest rubber out right now, and then they put Bridgestone S22's on this bike which is like halfway to a sport touring tire. They could have at least put Michelin Power GP's on this or if their contract was with Bridgestone then at least some RS11's
Great machine, no quickshifter, also got pay shut off the anti wheelie, KTM you fuck up at that price if you would of included the heated grips and electronic package i would of purchased it. It's just maybe zH2.
Luke’s an experienced former journalist and during his time with KTM he’s ridden and has extensive knowledge of the Super Duke range - he remains impartial and was the obvious man for the job!
Bennetts Bike sorry but I don’t agree with your opinion, if you got Dovizioso to test a Ducati and then a Suzuki GP bike I know what he would say, he would as in this video wax lyrical about the Ducati and say the Suzuki was OK
Glad I’m not the only one who thinks the lack of Quckshifter+ as standard is a bit silly. The rest of the electronics packs would be ok to have as extras but when they can put a QS on a 790 Duke 🤨 Great review of a still excellent bike. 👍
Nice bike..I've got the 18 plate..I do 102mile round trip 3 times a week..losing 2l is a no-no plus the bright orange night mode..when currently its black screen white digits..
It is December 2021and ktm has there super duke 1390 r coming out that has some real improvements, great quality, great motor & chassis. I read all your comments and all but NEVER MENTIONED WHAT A BUTT UGLY GAS TANK WITH THOSE UGLY UGLY SPEARS COMING OUT THE SIDES. I would love to buy one, but the styling of that gas tank is the WORST OF THE WORST. I LIKE NICE LOOKING THINGS THAT WORK. This project guy needs to bring someone into the loop with a knowledge of styling and beauty. So long ktm.
Would like your opinion on this as a daily STREET motorcycle--comfort, practicality with fun and thrills--vs Ducati now that you have ridden that too. Thanks.
Better overall street bike, much more torque and comfort. Only drawback you got pay for extra electronics, with so much competition bad move on there part. If I was smaller guy can't beat the zH2.
More power ? lol no it went to 180 HP from 177 at the cost of Torque... als decreased the fuel capacity wtf. give me 200 HP and even more torque then ill consider upgrading from my 2017
Richard Morton Not since June 2019. But nobody more experienced with the 1290 SUPER DUKE R at Bennetts then me, so I jumped at the chance and I was genuinely worried the bike might go too track focussed. It hasn’t.
Luke...i had an mt10 before...so tank range, torque obviously, but what has impressed me more is its handling even fully loaded , i feel i can trust the front end , but most of all , its effortless, Richard Newland summarised it perfectly when he gave his long termer back to KTM..
@@richardmorton5650 That's great to hear Richard. Hopefully you'll be getting the miles on it again soon. MT10s are a mega bit of kit, too. Looks are a bit marmite, but that engine!
The bike is a beast in philipines when u buy the bike insurance for 5 years plate and is all in the price u buy it 980k pesos not like the west u pay then u have to go for your insurance your plate that all cost money
The worst part with KTM still not including QS+ as standard is they put the damned hardware on every bike, you just need to unlock it in the software... So what is their reason? They're not saving money by not giving it to their customers, they're just ripping them off, IMO. I was in the market for one of these a couple of years ago, but went for an S1000R instead, I got forged wheels and the sport package for 2 grand less than the Super Duke R was without.
Hope the front fender fasteners have been changed to something better, my 2016 the screws stripped out and broke off. Can’t stand hidden cheap shit on a Motorcycle!! Go Honda
Son's duke were there in home and me his mother looking for set it back in right what's loosened of Bosch things fitted with it combination of masculinity above head actuation, by his treatment time in last year. Strive to wake up to regain my ince slanted KTM 46 k 390

Perfect said, with better comfort for us bigger guys.

I have a 2020 Streetfighter V4 and a 2014 SDR. On the street the SDR is much more fun. Torque rules!
and no expensive desmo valve service or belts that need to be changed every 2 years
Best comprehensive review on the Duke. Well Done.
I'm 5'7 and it's perfect. Compact riding position but fully adjustable for all riders.
Can the 1290 r do longer distance rides or should I go with the GT?
Great review, I like how you touch on other areas of everyday use that others don’t talk about.
Great review, excellent camera shots to really show off and you explained the bike changes better than others so far.

Take a look at the Tuono Factory as well. It's quite the bike.
Really the bike of my dreams♥️♥️

How does this bike compare to the 2020 MT10
Probably the best street sport bike ever made, with the worst turn signal indicator in the history of turn signal indicators. The feeling is a lot like realizing you just stepped in dog crap every time it must be used.
Great review Luke, I have one end of March for a couple of weeks, looking forward to it 😎😎

Lamb Chop Rides Cheers mate. You’re going to love this new version

What's that key on the subframe for?
Im thinking about buying one of these or the ducati Streetfighter what you think?
Well both are crazy good!
For the love of god stop calling it “the Beast” every 20 seconds... we get it, KTM wants everyone to know it’s a beast! 😂
Sorry. I’ll stop calling The Beast The Beast.
Luke Brackenbury Excellent, glad we cleared that up! 😂
When is the superduke supposed to be released in the US and available at dealerships?
Here in Canada with the covid-19 all non essential store's are closed until who knows? I want though!
They’ve fixed a lot of the oversteer on street, to me it feels as easy to corner as my Duke 790 vs SDR 2017
Ian Derzsi also the 890R has brembo stylema which are better than the brakes this possesses
KTM dude sums it up at 15:13 BRAAAAAP!
Seen a few SDR review, this has been the most informative and enjoyable - the ktm chap provided great onsite (lets talk at the bar lol)
No Q.S and a cheap wobbly turn switch. Not good enough KTM. This is a premium priced product and so it should be premium equipped.
Agreed the quickshifter/blipper should come as standard for this price!👍

We need to put them all together head-to-head!
very nice review, thank you for being honest, if you already have gen 2, not much difference in gen 3
super thanks! this is the best video on nett.
I want ktm to bring back the 950/990sm models!😯
Great Review thanks man
Needs more top end power to compete with the V-4 Ducati Street-Fighter !!! But the 3.0 KTM will be 10x more reliable

BenDodd1990 Sena Potato. And a GoPo.
what's your height, want to check out the seat height...
Luke's about 5'8", hope that helps.

Because it wasn’t launched then. It’s coming!
You need to sort out the colour in this video. The orange is much more vibrant in real life.
Honda CBR-SP2 has perfect switch gear !! Turn signals feel like a solid tooth 🦷

Also, can you verify the Apex suspension system is standard, I thought that was their aftermarket line?
Any word on an update for the GT?
Ed Wilson probably has another year of sales before an update. Usually 3 year cycles for KTM Street product range major updates
The riding footage needs a bit of work for the camera angle and sound.
My bad - not a lot of time to slap the cameras on
Superduke my dream Avery time ...One day i get its superduke 1290

I hate Ktm CEO because he says faster bikes are not necessary for the Road. Bullshit. Please change him👍
It doesn’t look nothing like the 2.0… to me the 2.0 was ugly, the 3.0 is really a beauty compared to the 2.0 😂
Kawasaki Z-H2 - tuned/flashed 240-hp
ill be selling my beast for the superbike H2 2020
Ok?
@Drakey Drake Absolutely.
The Z-H2 is ugly, heavy and gimmicky
So it's a wheelie machine
THE Trickster only in the first 6 gears

Pointless bike and this why it is the best.
Thats the ugliest exhaust i ever saw... and im from the 80s....
It’s certainly an improvement on the last version
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and for me I’ve yet to see a more ugly bike than the super duke r, I’d sooner have a honda cb125 👎👎👎👎
