OBS Chevy Truck LS Swap Overview

  • In this video I discuss and try to outline the process and the steps involved with successfully completing an LS Swap in these older Chevrolet OBS trucks although a lot of the information can cross over to the older Square Body trucks and even the C10 trucks.
It all starts with a Plan. Set a realistic goal and then proceed accordingly.
Get an engine that you’d like to use. Wether it is a 4.8L, a 5.3L, a 6.0L or even a 6.2L the process is all the same. Focus on getting the engine installed and running in the truck before you go crazy with the turbos and nitrous.
Prep the truck by removing the front end as well as your old worn out leaky 350 and make way for your newly acquired LS engine. Also carefully remove your old wiring harness.
Figure out which motor mounts you want to go with. I went with the Dirty Dingo Slider mounts but there are several other companies that make LS Swap motor mounts. If your truck was a V6 truck then you will need to update your engine cradle mounts to the V8 mounts because the spacing is different.
Prep the engine for install. This also includes doing anything that you would like to do or would be easier to do while the engine and transmission is out of the vehicle because it’s much easier to now rather than after it’s installed in the truck.
It’s now time to install the engine. The whole process is pretty simple and straightforward. I did the whole install by myself in around 30 minutes but if you have a friend around to help then the process may go even faster. But once the engine is installed it’s then time to move onward.
After the engine was installed, I them focus on the electrical portion of the LS swap which is a pretty big step.

I'm not mechanically inclined but I can tell this was an awesome video however I would want a big block instead of a LS swap. I currently have a 1989 1500 that I want to upgrade from a six-cylinder to eight.

The engine bolts up to the existing transmission. Just record the ecm to the trans you’re using. Driveshaft shouldn’t change.

@@siTTinLo lol that works. I thought it was even more hilarious because you look a lot like my brother and that's exactly the sort of thing he'd do. I probably would too though so I can't go pointing fingers. Great job on the video. That was really cheap for a functional swap. Too many people leave everything but the engine itself non-functional and it becomes the next guy's problem.
