    Do you use premium diesel or regular. And do you still have the car?I find your channel very useful as I just got my first L320 and I'm a fellow Brummie👍🏻

      Hi Mark, hope you're enjoying your RRS. I usually alternate filling up with Premium Diesel and then Regular.
      I do still have the car. I was considering changing it for something a bit cheaper to run (Tax and Insurance wise), but we love the car, had it Six years now and still love driving it. Yes it has its issues from time to time but show me a car that doesn't.
      I will be uploading more videos on the RRS soon.
      Being a Brummie, if you ever need work done to your RRS I can highly recommend JMB Land Rover Services in Great Barr. I've had a few jobs done by him and is very good and competitive price wise. Here's a link.......jmblandroverservices.co.uk
      You can have a look at the playlist for the other videos.
      I do plan on keeping my RRS now, to me they are the last of the traditional styled Range Rovers and don't command stupid prices...
      All the best David

    Noticed carbon build up on your expansion tank when you took the cap off. Is your FBH venting correctly? Don’t mean to alarm you, just rub your finger to see if it’s carbon or dust.

      Sorry for the late reply. I did replace my coolant tank just over 12 months ago (faulty sensor) and the deposits were just dust and grime, no carbon. Thanks for your comment.

      Hi Lee, thanks for the comment. I've used the garage a few times over the last couple of years ( there are a couple of videos on the Channel of the work done). I'm currently trying to decide to either have a gearbox oil change or flush soon.
      I do recommend the garage, he knows his job and costs are reasonable.
      It's been a while since my last video, due to other stuff, however I'll be doing another update within the next week or so.......I've had it over 4 1/2 years now. Regards David

    60 pound for a plug in. I purchased a konnwei 808 one for under 30 from EBay which resets almost anything apart from tyre pressure sensors and abs probs have to be solved to turn off dash lights . Just google the codes . Avoiding main dealers will save a fortune in the long run . Plus owners club forums are a good source of info for common issues .

    The coolest issue is the sensor in the bottle, just replace the expansion tank bottle as it has a sensor inside, these get clogged up, about £40 for a new bottle or £80 for OEM and really easy to replace, see here, d4 will be the same for your RR: ua-cam.com/video/WSU3H10YfGc/v-deo.html

      Had my 2006 Range rover sport HSE Diesal for 2years. Have changed all the door actuators ,a fiddly job but they were very cheap on eBay. Changed one tyre first year brand new £50 eBay got 2 new tyres coming this week £137 from eBay. Had loads of warnings lights ie. Suspension and I'm going to replace the suspension to coil and spring the kit costs £700 and I'll do it myself. Also I had the whole car wrapped in Matt Grey cost me £900 , looks super cool and sprayed the wheels black cheap easy job. Buying an old RR is a project job, you must be willing to do a lot of stuff your self, but plenty of instruction videos on UA-cam. Good luck

    Cheers for your reviews,I am thinking of buying one but my daily commute is 60 miles country roads and your average of 21 mpg and the posts of it chewing crankshaft is putting me off.
    What do you reckon you could get on a nice run,do you still have the car and if so is it still going well.
    I like to do most jobs myself and the other worry is if any major problems or turbo ect,the body needs to be lifted which isn't a home job.
    Great review

    • @davidbaugh
      @davidbaugh  3 роки тому

      Hi Peter thanks for the comment. I think the most I've got on a motorway run is around 34mpg. My average of 21mpg is probably a little skewed because I mainly do short runs of around 5 miles which isn't ideal.
      When I initially started thinking about my purchase and doing a little research I wen't through the same thought process and the horror stories almost put me off. As with most things you read on the forums you mainly hear of the complaints, yes it does happen but, from what I gather a bad maintenance schedule adds to the likelihood of problems. Frequent oil changes are key. The gearbox is supposed to be sealed for life (life of the warranty) if the transmission oil isn't changed then it becomes thicker and so puts more stress on the crank. So changing the transmission oil should be done on a regular basis. Better still a gearbox flush, more expensive to do ( specialist equipment needed) but all the oil is removed before putting new in.
      I still have my car and still love it. I've had a few niggles mainly sensor orientated. The latest problem was stiff steering......on the MOT it failed on emissions ( just needs a good run, I've hardly used it since March, one 8 mile round trip each week) so the independent JLR mechanic I use said it just needs a good run. The MOT also failed it on a deformed lower steering U/J. Again down to lack of use, I noticed it gradually getting harder to steer when first setting off. The position of the U/J is open to the elements and the lubrication dries out putting more pressure on it making the steering stiffer. I'll make sure it's kept well grease in future... also a common issue.This work is being done and new MOT in just over a week so I'll post an update video in a couple of weeks.
      I would certainly buy another, one with a good service history. (check out some of "High Peak Autos" Range Rover vids)
      Cheers David

      @@davidbaugh Probably a cheaper code reader would be profitable for you. I hapily help you reading those codes and probably solving them problems, or at least give You an idea what is it related.
      These readers I believe costs between 20-100 pounds. I don't know if you know Car Throttle's youtube channel, but they do sell these kind of bluetooth code readers, some of them may delete these. If it's not like an urgent problem, sometimes deleting these fault codes actualy solves them, for example: cranshaft position sensor reads an out-of-range value, it instantly gets the car into limp home mode, and after deleting it, it will not come back, and everything is in order again.

      @@davidbaugh hi david. Which or what is the difference between flush and oil change?
      Regards
      Al

    • @davidbaugh
      @davidbaugh  3 роки тому

      With a gearbox oil change, they drain as much of the oil out of the gearbox as possible, then just refill it run the car until it gets to a certain temp then top it up if required. The problem with this is that a fair proportion, around 30% of the oil doesn't drain out, it's held in the torque converter I believe, so it would take at least a couple of oil changes to have all the oil replaced.
      With a flush it's linked up to a machine that flushes all of the oil out of the gearbox etc and then replaces all of the oil.
      Not all specialists have the required equipment to do a flush, usually the dealers, mine certainly doesn't. So the cost is around £300ish for an oil change and around £700ish for a flush.
      Obviously a flush would be the better option, but replacing 70% of the oil is good too. I've thought about getting the mechanic to replace the oil, go through the circulating process and then replace the oil again, meaning all but around 10% would be new oil......I'd need to check the cost though.
      David

    The service cost seems really high from JLR, I have a 2011 XJ and the dealer did a full service for around £320, that was the big one, and I assume that has the same 3litre V6 diesel, not sure what else they service that they wouldn't on an XJ. I know at around 110,000 miles of 9 years I think it is, they replace the timing belt water pump etc, they quoted me a similar price to what you said.

    I'm looking at a 2013 3.0 tdv6 for 15k which has 88knon the clock, do you think it's a good option as not sure about maintainence and stuff, will that be expensive??

    • @davidbaugh
      @davidbaugh  4 роки тому +2

      I'm very pleased with mine after almost 2 years of ownership. The TDV6 is a good engine IF maintained correctly ( but you can say that about any engine) so full service history is strongly advised.
      For a full service you're looking at £250 from an independent LR specialist (actual quote from a garage I use) £650 for a cam belt change. I'll be doing another video very soon regarding costs and other jobs I'm in the process of doing.
      The other obvious costs are insurance, road tax £535 and fuel I'm getting 21mpg mostly urban miles.
      If you get a good one you will not regret it .... I don't. Let me know how you get on. Good luck

      Hi Andy, thanks for the comment. The 3.0l TDV6 in my car is ample for me in terms of power and torque and mpg. If I was just listening to my heart i would seriously consider one of the V8 models. I would happily buy from a private sale if it had a full service history although if you want full peace of mind go for a jlr dealer sale with warranty. An independent dealer is an option but again full history, the warranties they offer are generally useless ( do your research).
      You hear a lot of horror stories regarding land Rover products but a well looked after car should serve you well. I joined one or two of the forums where you can get good advice.
      My original Insurance was through Adrian Flux for the first year, but the renewal seemed to hight to me so I then changed to RAC insurance who's offer I couldn't beat. Try one of the comparison sites for an idea and then go direct to the insurer you can usually save a bit that way.
      The indépendant garage I use isJMB land Rover he is very good and prices are reasonable, here's a link jmblandroverservices.co.uk

    • @davidbaugh
      @davidbaugh  4 роки тому +2

      Hi, yes I do still have the car. I have done a few follow up videos detailing more costs after 2 years.
      I had an issue with a water leak but was easily solved, plus a lot of drying out!
      The most annoying things are temperamental electrics, however mine have been annoying but have been sensors, coolant level, bonnet lock and fuel level, all are intermittent and all but the fuel level diy jobs.
      Timing belt I had done £645 at an independent. He also fitted a door actuator another common fault which was intermittent but became a pain in the backside, cost £160 if I remember right.
      I also had an engine breather pipe modification on the TDV6 which stops smoking on accelerating above 3000rpm....£160. See my last vid for a full breakdown.
      Would I buy one again.....yes, they are a great drive and very comfortable. Mpg is so so but that's to be expected. I'm happy with the V6 but as with any purchase a full service history is essential, mine almost has that, just look at a few to get a feel for what they're like. Check out the RRS forum www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/
