This was the most informative video I have ever seen in my life! I suffer from irritable bowel. I have been on keto for four months now. At first the diarrhea was bad but now it is getting better. Now I know why. Thank you so much!
I am 6 days into my Keto and today my bowels have been a power hose. I also suffer with irritable bowel syndrome and vitamin D deficiency, so it all adds up for me. I am sorry for my bowels because I refuse to turn back😊
Pinhal Silva I am doing great! I’ve lost 40 lbs, eyesight improved, A1C dropped from 7.5 to 5.4. Diarrhea is gone. Thank God! That lasted for almost 9 months. I’ve always been on the constipated side ( with the exception of keto diarrhea), so I make sure to take magnesium supplements and things are back to normal.
I'm 66 and this is my 2nd time to try keto. I bought your book and cried thru it. I have insulin resistance. My horrible lifestyle 😫has been IBS for 30 years. No life in fact!!! So embarrassing for sure. No one understands it because I can't either. I'm 1 month into keto and this morning my glucose is 94. It's doing better. I'm pushing for a A1c of 5 or less in 2 months. I'm also praying 🙏for this bowel nightmare to heal. I'm pushing the fats. Thank you for this video and all you do
I am the same in the beginning, i was on keto a long time ago i lost so much weight i had ibs before keto, it does go away and your body does get used to it xx my ibs chronic pain and constipation has disappeared it was crippling and im so happy its gone xx

Did the diarrhea ever go away and if so how and when? I got IBS and got diarrhea from fat. Before I got IBS I could digest the fat fine. I got IBS while on a OMAD diet of rice, vegetables and spices. I'm super low in vitamin D. Below 7 ng/dl. I've been taking 10000 IU daily for over a month and still can't digest fat. I expect to take the vitamin D for 2 years. I'd like to see the six month study. I've tried to stick with it but I can't even go a week, so not six.

I’ve been on a low fat diet all my life. Lost my gallbladder 9 years ago, get IBS if I eat dairy, wheat, high spices, onions and fat, so don’t. Until last week, when I started keto. Dairy and fat came in. I had explosive bowels for the first 5 days, (dropped 4 pounds) followed by constipation for the last 3, (no pounds lost since.) Exhaustive on the gut and the loo! I’ve now dropped the dairy, and hoping it settles soon. Using MCT oil gently, upped my magnesium dose, taking vit D and waiting for change.
I love big salads with keto-healthy homemade dressing. I sprinkle and stir in a very generous amount of McCormick's Gourmet Bruschetta seasoning mix, sweet basil & oregano, add 2 to 3 minced fresh garlic cloves, lots of olive oil, some lemon juice plus raw apple cider vinegar and a little fresh sauerkraut, and a protein. maybe add an avocado too. Yum!
7 cycles of keto. About 4 to 12 weeks at a time. 7 times i have some very very very violent diarrhea. Its like the DAMN GATES OF HELL opened and ALL MY DEMONS WERE RELEASED! AMEN
[I admit - I laughed out loud at this one.] Bowels are a tricky thing on keto. Hidden behind much of the diarrhea is the struggle for the patients to absorb fat. Watch this video:

@Max Awesome that's not the only potential reason. It could be too much fat, lactose intolerance, SIBO, FODMAP sensitivity to name a few. I have explosive diarrhea almost every night after 6 weeks of Keto. Fat, FODMAPs, lactose, large amounts of cruciferous vegetables make things worse. You need to do breath tests as well as bloods. Good luck.
Hey have you worked it out yet? Ended up I have Helicobacter Pylori which lives in the stomach lining and LOVES a PH in the acid range. So my daily intake of ACV and a lemon in water gave it the perfect environment to thrive. I'm still working through it and there could be other complications but it has improved a little.
Been doing keto for 4 months. Overall I am feeling great, lost weight and have energy and focus back that I lost in my pre diabetes state. I had the explosive stool situation only 2 times in the initial start up. I felt that it was due to the change in the micro biome of my intestines. The bacteria were the old school version that thrived on carbs and now they were starving for nutrients. Once that went away I then went into the rock hard stool situation. Yes, the increase in salt solved that problem. Now everything is running smoother. Extended fasting....skipping breakfast has helped. Yes there are bumps in the road, but the results are worth it.
This explains a lot of the issues I used to have....since I am a podcast junkie I’ve healed my SIBO and my 3 autoimmune diseases and now Keto all the way!!!

I just watched this and it was so helpful. I have IBS and SIBO and yes I had the explosive diarrhea when I started . I still do once and a while but it has slowed down and I love it. I also do an 18 hour fast almost every day to let my stomach rest.
Yes, I have diarrhea, five days in and been like this since day two. Not diarrhea like runny but cramps and poops a lot! So I will keep going. Plus I hope this diet will help me with my arthritis
I appreciate this Dr. Boz. I've stopped listening to anyone who says you can "reset your gut in three or four days!" Nonsense. I've been suffering for 12-13 years with severe gut distension and extreme fatigue. And I was in incredible health and so physically fit prior to this. I got where I couldn't get out of bed until 1-2pm. I was sick of life. And my joints have become arthritic. I began the strict carnivore diet just a little over two months ago. Constipation had been a huge problem when I got sick, but it switched to explosive diarrhea on carnivore/keto. Now, it's usually just water and what looks like mucus and dead bacteria? It's very slimy. My bathroom visits are mostly sitting there passing gas and this mucus stuff. It's a consistency of aloe vera when I wipe my bum. My colon is in a constant state of trying to expel anything and everything... I have the urge to "go" but nothing is there most of the time. But... my energy levels and joint pain are so improved. I can get up in the morning and stay awake! I had a setback when I tried to reintroduce peanut butter in my diet... my joints got immediately worse. Cutting that out took only 48 hours to get better. I've added things to my prime rib and chicken wings. I make a bone broth, MCT oil, and cabbage stew. Seems to be fine for my autoimmune issues. And I have some plain Greek yogart and drink kefir. All seem fine so far. My 'accidents' haven't reduced, probably have several a day. Thankfully it's not anything but this clear watery slimy concoction my bowls are making. But carnivore/keto is working. I finally have hope after all this time I may get a real life back.
Was told I had IBS for years. It was so bad I used to joke that I had "football" bowels, they gave me a two minute warning then I had better find a br or there would be trouble for me. For decades I suffered with this condition. Went on keto three months ago and the problem corrected in 72 hours. Turns out it was not IBS I just had a gluten intolerance and the inflammation from gluten was tearing up my bowels. For the first time in over 40 years I have "normal" controllable bowels that most adults take for granted but had eluded me.
That's great! It makes me wonder how many people out there are suffering unneccesarily. I'm on day 4 of keto and although I do have some loose stools the washing machine sensation in my bowels has pretty much disappeared. So pleased
Ty. I've been on keto, mostly carnivore and no dairy for about 8 months. Various types of keto for about three years. I know that doesn't give you all of the information and I'm not looking for a social media treatment plan but what I would like to ask is about excess bile. I believe that it is a fairly common problem. Would you speak to that issue, please?
I was in a car accident 8yrs ago and received a lot of internal damage along with spinal and brain damage, which lead to leaky gut n fibromyalga. As a result my bowel movements became so loose I was doing on average about 6loose bowel movements a day and it was a common and extremely embarrassing state when my bowels would open up automatically whilst I was driving or out in public and it was an uncontrollable flow of feces pouring out of my bowels. I am a fully raw vegan and have always eaten really clean but due to all my injuries I stacked on 30kilo in 6weeks after the accident. I have just started the keto eating plan on 1st October 2018. I have to date already list 4kilo and my bowel movements have returned to healthy thick solid stools. So I am very pleased about that. I have not changed the way I eat I am still a fully raw vegan all I have done is add more healthy fats to my diet. I have already been using coconut oil internally as well as externally for 20yrsand have been doing regular 40 day juice fasts for the last 35yrs. But if anything I have had absolutely no problem with my bowel movements in fact it has improved.
I love you & your teaching style! I’ve been hoping for a doctor like you for the last 10 years while struggling Thru my autoimmune & leaky gut issues. 👍🏼
Sorry for your suffering. Check out the book - it does a better job than the videos for explaining and educating patients. www.audible.com/pd/B07B4MPCNR/?source_code=AUDFPWS0223189MWT-BK-ACX0-109682&ref=acx_bty_BK_ACX0_109682_rh_us
I guess in our country doctors just cannot handle irritable bowel problem. They will put you on some medicine, but they will never ever recommend you changing your diet. Never. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
The people on here talking about “can’t trust a fart” aren’t kidding. I’ve been intermittent fasting for about 3 months. Added keto a few weeks ago. Ate too much bacon, pooped water. Did a 36 hour fast for the first time, broke the fast with a tablespoon of butter and a little cream in some mint tea, 20 minutes later, pooped water. Gross. Good thing I’m already used to drinking a lot of water every day. On the up side, the swelling in my feet and ankles has improved a lot. My feet look like feet again.
I have Chrohn’s Disease and colitis. I had 4 abdominal surgeries. I had 3 c sections and then a hysterectomy. I think my bowels are bad because of all the scar tissue.I’ve been on a Keto diet for almost 6 months now. I still have bad diarrhea every day. But for me Keto or no Keto I always have diarrhea. So I’m hanging in there with keto. I am genetically highly likely to get cancer. My father passed at 45 to brain cancer, my sister passed at 36 to brain cancer and my brother passed at 42 to stomach cancer. I was diagnosed with myeldysplasia at 31. I am 53 now. Since both my siblings have passed, it seems likely I’ll be next. My father’s brother passed from brain cancer at 29, three of his sisters died from breast cancer and one sister at 3 from bone cancer or lymphoma. One sister lost her daughter to brain cancer. Her daughter passed at 19. Another of her daughters now has breast cancer. Hearing about Keto helping with cancer is important to me. I’ve wondered if I possibly wasn’t in ketosis but I got a blood tester yesterday and I am. My ketones was 4.0 yesterday and 3.5 this morning. Blood glucose was excellent. Any suggestions of Keto tweaks to my diet? I need to heal my bowels and be anti cancer.
Patty Cotter - patty I am going to pray very hard for you. Jesus is our great healer and He knows your heart. I’ve had IBS-d for years and the keto diet has really helped. I’m cutting back on the heavy cream and trying ghee in place of butter in my am coffee, but I’ve had a couple disaster days. Overall, everything is gradually getting better and I feel good. I have to remind myself to put good salt in my water and drink throughout the day. I know it will all be better for you. Trust God and all will straighten up and you’ll be feeling better. In my prayers🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👍❤️✝️
NOV 2022:(RNY 20+YRS AGO) have been on keto 4mos. Wish I had diarrhea, I have chronic constipation, probably from the RNY & 10meds currently. (Pooh is small meatball sizes, glues together) ONCE a week. I'm told from keto family, thats still ok. I'm still learning & waiting for ketosis effects on body. (On keto for my brain)
I have PCOS and IR. I’m on 1,000 mg Metformin. I did have low energy, loose stools and stomach aches when I first began keto. I haven’t lost weight, in fact, I’ve gained. I wonder if the PCOS is responsible? Thanks. :)
Dr. Boz, I have been keto for almost a year. I never got diarrhea on it. But I just started alternate day fasting for 36 hour fasts while eating keto on eating days. I had that explosive diarrhea you spoke of yesterday (my 3rd Fast) so I don’t think it’s keto related. Can fasts cause diarrhea? I can’t really find any information on it.
10:02 I was drinking kombucha before starting the diet, because of doctor’s order. He told me to drink just 1 oz. In a small glass with water, 2 or 3 times a day. I had problems with my colon before, and on the days in feel my stomach funny I drink 2 oz.
Another brilliant post is from eo nutrition. He explains in detail bile acid malabsorption and gut inflammation. He advocates berberine aetemisinin, ascorbic acid and milk thistle. He explains why and to break the gut inflammation cycle.. They all agree the aim is reduce gut inflammation to begin to resolve the problem. For some of us this is taking a long time to heal what is going on. For me it's been impossible to continue the diet without something to help continue. Yes, also they agree that vits A, D and C are needed too. So, here goes! 6 months is purgatory.... got all the IBS symptoms she describes but here in UK it's on your own so these videos are fab x
Hi, do u recommend chia seeds for a 2 year old? If so how much? She is transitioning to potty training and she’s holding her poop in 😮would this help ? Does anyone know?? Help😄
Diarhea happens when I overdo the MCT oil. Especially if I am also taking fish oil. For me, Almond flour produces an endless flow of kidney stones. From Oct to Feb I passed 22 stones until I figured it out.
@@rinskeraphael8755 During the time that I was using almond flour I passed 22 stones. I researched everything that I was eating. Almond flour is HIGH in oxalates. My kidney stones were calcium-oxilate. I stopped using almond flour...I passed two stones immediately after stopping and have passed none since then almost a year ago.
Hey doc, did keto for a year with some diarrhea. Then went OMAD and had diarrhea for 2 months. Blood and stool all negative. Had to start eating low fodmap for a bit. They think its BAM or fat malabsorbtion. Any ideas?
I m on ketogenic diet for more one year and i m beginning having diarrhea ... I can't support anymore coco oil and i don't understand why .... Is anyone experimentating that ? THanks if you could share with me your experience
I tried keto and I had all the bad symptoms you mentioned. I am not fat, I am rather ok-ish I just wanted to lose some fat but boy it really screw me over. Diarrhea, bloating, gasses, feeling ill etc.
I had diarrhea and stomach pain on my 2nd week of keto, and it only lasted for a week. I took oral rehydration salt for every bowel movement to replace my electrolytes. Now, i feel better.
Okay, so interesting scenario: Too much bile (and so gastrointestinal distress) in someone who has had her gallbladder removed and has been doing healthy-fat keto and intermittent fasting for several months now. Should she stop doing keto and intermittent fasting and move to a moderate carbohydrate diet? If so, why? and if not, why? This is a very interesting scenario that I am seeing happen with a nutrition client at them moment and while I have seen too much bile build up in clients that do have a gallbladder or not enough bile in clients that do not have a gallbladder, this one is a first and I am confused.
I have never had any issue with moving my bowels. I have been intermittent fasting for over a year, and I started keto again 2 weeks ago but now I am dealing with diarrhea or loose stools every day and it burns. When I take the meds for it then I get stuck poo and it still burns. I've been doing electrolytes and Celtic salt in my water, but it is not clearing up.
Salt bloats me and is bad for my heart so I drink extra regularwater and drink a lot of coffee for energy plus the poop. I also eat fiber gummies, oatmeal....poop fiber friendly foods so the fat falls off plus I poop. No cheese. No carbs. No salt. I use butter though that has salt with vegetables.
what i understand from you is to stay on this keto diet even though we hv bad diarrhea..am i right? but what if im reaching a state of severe hair fall.....i really don't know should i carry on or how to stop my diarrhea or stop my keto or stop my hair fall. Of course another issue is the fear to see doctor, because most doctor will tell me all these whatever diet are b***s***, and will feed me with lots of medications.....so i am really not sure what to do other that to quit....my quiting is introduce more bland food (carbssss) to create bulk in my stool to reduce the explosive diarrhea but the stomachache hasn't really go away
*Has diarrhoea, Dr says Drink milk of magnesia for stomach problems on keto ! pauses continues to drink milk of magnesia. *Dr, milk of magnesia helps with constipation. .....We,ve got a code red situation.

I’ve now dropped the dairy, and hoping it settles soon. Using MCT oil gently, upped my magnesium dose, taking vit D and waiting for change.
Try 3 -4 tps of Organic Extra Virgin Olive oil (Cold Press). In the morning on a empty stomach. 🤠
Your A Highly Intelligent Doctor. Love ❤️ You . Cheers
And if you're over 40, you just can't trust your Farts.
So would taking vitamin D supplements help with the diarrhea?
Been on keto low carb for a year. Still have the shits.
Thank you, I need to add vit D, not having explosive issues, just a couple of day here and there, but I think I need to also cut back on the oils.
What a wonderful doctor helping people navigate their health journey ❤️
I remember week 3-4 I was shitting yellow poop but it was also the week I lost 4 cm of waist
Why is it that I specifically search for a video as to why I would get diarhea during keto, and instead its all about constipation? WTH?
I suggest you listen to the end because they are both connected, I can relate to everything Dr said.
I LOVE chia seeds, but they are loaded with lectins.
And.....OXALATES!!!
I experienced constipation the first two days of keto now I notice yellowish oil stool. Is this a bad sign? Thank you so much for your video!
Wow.. I am in love with the way you explain things... Hats off to you!!
You’re so smart and beautiful :) thanks for the information !
Check out the book - it does a better job than the videos for explaining and educating patients. www.audible.com/pd/B07B4MPCNR/?source_code=AUDFPWS0223189MWT-BK-ACX0-109682&ref=acx_bty_BK_ACX0_109682_rh_us
Very very helpful. I had my suspicions about IBS before. You give me hope that if I stick with this things could improve. Thank you
Dr. Boz, I make KOMBUTCHA tea, it is so good and very easy.💕. NonnaGrace
Best of luck to you sister! Keep fighting!
Let’s all pray for Patty🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
NOV 2022:(RNY 20+YRS AGO) have been on keto 4mos. Wish I had diarrhea, I have chronic constipation, probably from the RNY & 10meds currently. (Pooh is small meatball sizes, glues together) ONCE a week. I'm told from keto family, thats still ok. I'm still learning & waiting for ketosis effects on body. (On keto for my brain)
I ruined a mattress. Woke up oblivious. I still have PTSD
Sometimes I think its just too much alternative sugar.
Great information Dr.! Keep up the good work. A lot of hurting puppies out here...😌
Oh man, you're really saving my but with this vid! thanks
My Auntie dubbed it Milk of Magnasty 😁
Cuban joke from the 1980's: Gorvachev was raised with Milk of Magnesium, 'cause he has pooped all over.
Help😄
I had the acidic diarrhea problem ... too much bacon and Xylitol I think 🤷🏼♀️
Diarhea happens when I overdo the MCT oil. Especially if I am also taking fish oil.
For me, Almond flour produces an endless flow of kidney stones. From Oct to Feb I passed 22 stones until I figured it out.
Do you mean that almond flour gave you kidney stones.
6 months?? I can’t deal with diarrhea that long.. this sucks. I really want to do keto but i can’t deal with the loose stools.
W. T. Jennings for now 1 imodium will help
Thank you this was very helpful.
This channel should have way more views... till now the only one that gives not just complete explanations but complete remedies! Thanks a lot doc :)
This video has gotten me back on the wagon I was getting real sick of this symptom but you gave me hope
Does anyone get burning diarrhea??? Lava keeps coming out of my anus and I’m not eating anything spicy.. I don’t know what’s going on..
Same here. I'm on my 2nd week
Skipped the Keto flu and I have done carnivor before so I thought I was well prepped for Keto but I have to say the Diarrhea is astonishing...
Didn't U.S. government also come out with food pyramid when we were young? and now most adults are fat/other health problems, 6:00
Man, what a shitty video. (Bu Dum Tssshh)
Joking! This was very informative, thank you!
Any rapid change in diet, is going to change you gastric flora. I have only had diarrhea in the few couple weeks f weeks and maybe twice in the last year. 15 months of low carb keto ish eating.
