I'm 66 and this is my 2nd time to try keto. I bought your book and cried thru it. I have insulin resistance. My horrible lifestyle 😫has been IBS for 30 years. No life in fact!!! So embarrassing for sure. No one understands it because I can't either. I'm 1 month into keto and this morning my glucose is 94. It's doing better. I'm pushing for a A1c of 5 or less in 2 months. I'm also praying 🙏for this bowel nightmare to heal. I'm pushing the fats. Thank you for this video and all you do
This was the most informative video I have ever seen in my life! I suffer from irritable bowel. I have been on keto for four months now. At first the diarrhea was bad but now it is getting better. Now I know why. Thank you so much!
I am 6 days into my Keto and today my bowels have been a power hose. I also suffer with irritable bowel syndrome and vitamin D deficiency, so it all adds up for me. I am sorry for my bowels because I refuse to turn back😊
Pinhal Silva I am doing great! I’ve lost 40 lbs, eyesight improved, A1C dropped from 7.5 to 5.4. Diarrhea is gone. Thank God! That lasted for almost 9 months. I’ve always been on the constipated side ( with the exception of keto diarrhea), so I make sure to take magnesium supplements and things are back to normal.
This explains a lot of the issues I used to have....since I am a podcast junkie I’ve healed my SIBO and my 3 autoimmune diseases and now Keto all the way!!!
I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your message! I have been sidelined for 15 years because of Lupus. After finding my power in diet therapy instead of my hopeless journey with medications, I began to start living not existing. One powerful diet move was Keto. But then....the diarrhea. Your kind, calm, and wise words are the gentle assurance that I don’t have to give up, but rather, adapt. Thank u for being my light today😊
@Dr. Boz [Annette Bosworth, MD] Low level of Vitamin D and Explosive diarrhea after starting Keto for the 100 times with no luck , you are talking about me Dr.Boz lomotil and fasting are working wonders with me , can not do low carb / Keto without lomotil so finally i am in ketosis after 7 years of trying Thanks heaps Dr.Boz

Did the diarrhea ever go away and if so how and when? I got IBS and got diarrhea from fat. Before I got IBS I could digest the fat fine. I got IBS while on a OMAD diet of rice, vegetables and spices. I'm super low in vitamin D. Below 7 ng/dl. I've been taking 10000 IU daily for over a month and still can't digest fat. I expect to take the vitamin D for 2 years. I'd like to see the six month study. I've tried to stick with it but I can't even go a week, so not six.
I appreciate this Dr. Boz. I've stopped listening to anyone who says you can "reset your gut in three or four days!" Nonsense. I've been suffering for 12-13 years with severe gut distension and extreme fatigue. And I was in incredible health and so physically fit prior to this. I got where I couldn't get out of bed until 1-2pm. I was sick of life. And my joints have become arthritic. I began the strict carnivore diet just a little over two months ago. Constipation had been a huge problem when I got sick, but it switched to explosive diarrhea on carnivore/keto. Now, it's usually just water and what looks like mucus and dead bacteria? It's very slimy. My bathroom visits are mostly sitting there passing gas and this mucus stuff. It's a consistency of aloe vera when I wipe my bum. My colon is in a constant state of trying to expel anything and everything... I have the urge to "go" but nothing is there most of the time. But... my energy levels and joint pain are so improved. I can get up in the morning and stay awake! I had a setback when I tried to reintroduce peanut butter in my diet... my joints got immediately worse. Cutting that out took only 48 hours to get better. I've added things to my prime rib and chicken wings. I make a bone broth, MCT oil, and cabbage stew. Seems to be fine for my autoimmune issues. And I have some plain Greek yogart and drink kefir. All seem fine so far. My 'accidents' haven't reduced, probably have several a day. Thankfully it's not anything but this clear watery slimy concoction my bowls are making. But carnivore/keto is working. I finally have hope after all this time I may get a real life back.
My doctor had no knowledge about constipation and diarrhea issues I have had while doing ketogenic diet. He said I should have enough fiber on keto. He wasn’t any help. I am Glad to find information on line.
Thank God for this video... I tried Keto/Carnivore for three months with explosive Diarrhea so I quit... but I knew it would be good for me... so now I know more...
I’ve been on a low fat diet all my life. Lost my gallbladder 9 years ago, get IBS if I eat dairy, wheat, high spices, onions and fat, so don’t. Until last week, when I started keto. Dairy and fat came in. I had explosive bowels for the first 5 days, (dropped 4 pounds) followed by constipation for the last 3, (no pounds lost since.) Exhaustive on the gut and the loo! I’ve now dropped the dairy, and hoping it settles soon. Using MCT oil gently, upped my magnesium dose, taking vit D and waiting for change.
Another brilliant post is from eo nutrition. He explains in detail bile acid malabsorption and gut inflammation. He advocates berberine aetemisinin, ascorbic acid and milk thistle. He explains why and to break the gut inflammation cycle.. They all agree the aim is reduce gut inflammation to begin to resolve the problem. For some of us this is taking a long time to heal what is going on. For me it's been impossible to continue the diet without something to help continue. Yes, also they agree that vits A, D and C are needed too. So, here goes! 6 months is purgatory.... got all the IBS symptoms she describes but here in UK it's on your own so these videos are fab x
Been doing keto for 4 months. Overall I am feeling great, lost weight and have energy and focus back that I lost in my pre diabetes state. I had the explosive stool situation only 2 times in the initial start up. I felt that it was due to the change in the micro biome of my intestines. The bacteria were the old school version that thrived on carbs and now they were starving for nutrients. Once that went away I then went into the rock hard stool situation. Yes, the increase in salt solved that problem. Now everything is running smoother. Extended fasting....skipping breakfast has helped. Yes there are bumps in the road, but the results are worth it.
I had IBS before Keto and now I'm constipated lol not much but I don't go to the bathroom as much as I use to. To be honest it's nice. Since my gallbladder was removed I felt like a little old lady. Now on Keto I'm good. I'm glad I found this video because I thought something was wrong. Thank you
Yes, I have diarrhea, five days in and been like this since day two. Not diarrhea like runny but cramps and poops a lot! So I will keep going. Plus I hope this diet will help me with my arthritis
Since Day One of keto your second subject has been my problem. I've suspected that there's something wrong with my gut for a long time. My family physician is one of the best in our very large city but his nutritional knowledge would fit in a thimble. *THANK YOU!!* for giving me *critical information* that I cannot get elsewhere!!
Thanks for the words of support Brian Crane. Today I did a FB live video that talked a little more about those bowel issues. Stay the course. You may need to rest your bowel in order to heal it. That means fasting. I encourage you to follow me for a couple of weeks on FB. I fast each week as an example to my patients.
I just watched this and it was so helpful. I have IBS and SIBO and yes I had the explosive diarrhea when I started . I still do once and a while but it has slowed down and I love it. I also do an 18 hour fast almost every day to let my stomach rest.
Love your videos Doc. I was having problems on the diet, and started the the Kambucha tea and that really seem to do the trick for me. I feel much much better.
Thank you... I have diarrhea but its not unbearable considering I was first constipated. I'm going to fast . N hopefully get threw this. Because I've never felt better then when I started eating healthier.
I love you & your teaching style! I’ve been hoping for a doctor like you for the last 10 years while struggling Thru my autoimmune & leaky gut issues. 👍🏼

I've been doing keto since June and I only have movement every 4 - 5 days. It was nasty at first but now it's ok! Lost nearly 30lbs on this diet and feeling so good too so thank you 💕↖️
I love big salads with keto-healthy homemade dressing. I sprinkle and stir in a very generous amount of McCormick's Gourmet Bruschetta seasoning mix, sweet basil & oregano, add 2 to 3 minced fresh garlic cloves, lots of olive oil, some lemon juice plus raw apple cider vinegar and a little fresh sauerkraut, and a protein. maybe add an avocado too. Yum!
awesome information! Been eating low carb for over 2 yrs. lost 35 lb, RA, fibromialgia, energy level all has gotten better!!! No implementation and learning IF, love it all! Found your videos a bit ago and really appreciate them!! Thanks so much and I am looking forward to reading your book!
Very good - I did keto for 3 months - weight loss was terrific but the constipation was terrible - and never left me - so it put me off ever trying keto again - May try it soon and adopt your tips - I love cabbage
I suffer from panic attacks and depression , the I get stressed often and I get a nervous stomach feeling often. I’ve also noticed my Ph balance is off. I’ve done keto and intermittent fasting before and this didn’t happen, but I’m going to give myself some time to heal my body again.
Diarhea happens when I overdo the MCT oil. Especially if I am also taking fish oil. For me, Almond flour produces an endless flow of kidney stones. From Oct to Feb I passed 22 stones until I figured it out.
@@rinskeraphael8755 During the time that I was using almond flour I passed 22 stones. I researched everything that I was eating. Almond flour is HIGH in oxalates. My kidney stones were calcium-oxilate. I stopped using almond flour...I passed two stones immediately after stopping and have passed none since then almost a year ago.
Constipation: Cabbage, chia seeds, milk of magnesia (if it gets real bad) Diarrhea: (blowouts), Vit D deficiency, Lomotil (limited use), kombucha tea (1/4 cup/day), IF
OMG...! I’m so glad you brought this up! Thanks so much Dr. Boz!!!!!I suffered a lot of stress and anxiety as a child due to emotional neglect and abuse. I was DX’d as likely having IBS a few years ago. I am on Keto and IF (4.5 months now) and it took me a little while to get over the diarrhea. I NO LONGER have IBS symptoms and the diarrhea is resolving. I knew this was a good eating plan so diarrhea or not, I knew eventually it would all work out well, and so it has!!! Thank you so much for this info!!!!
this is such great info for me! I've had IBS since my teens, and have been on 'traditional' diets like Weight Watchers for a long time. My IBS now seems to be a little worse than before (sometimes diahrea sometimes constipation), but this video reinjures me to just wait it out for now... Thanx!
Not able to absorb fats!!!! This is amazing! I have resisted the SIBO and IBS label for years and tried every high quality probiotic, including Komucha and Milk Keifer. The best is Restore (labeled for horses, which need human quality meds.) but that only kept the misery down to managable. Probably because of already taking all of that, I can manage with the constant diarrhea, which gives me a heads-up so I make it to the bathroom.
WOW I AM SO EXCITED AND THANKFUL I watched this video....it describes my situation exactly! So I will be sticking to Keto not only for the weight loss but now to fix my bowel problems. I will be happy to get rid of this "poop pills"!!!!!!!
I was in a car accident 8yrs ago and received a lot of internal damage along with spinal and brain damage, which lead to leaky gut n fibromyalga. As a result my bowel movements became so loose I was doing on average about 6loose bowel movements a day and it was a common and extremely embarrassing state when my bowels would open up automatically whilst I was driving or out in public and it was an uncontrollable flow of feces pouring out of my bowels. I am a fully raw vegan and have always eaten really clean but due to all my injuries I stacked on 30kilo in 6weeks after the accident. I have just started the keto eating plan on 1st October 2018. I have to date already list 4kilo and my bowel movements have returned to healthy thick solid stools. So I am very pleased about that. I have not changed the way I eat I am still a fully raw vegan all I have done is add more healthy fats to my diet. I have already been using coconut oil internally as well as externally for 20yrsand have been doing regular 40 day juice fasts for the last 35yrs. But if anything I have had absolutely no problem with my bowel movements in fact it has improved.
I already have a chronic GI condition and take 2400 mg of magnesium DAILY, yes, daily! You can imagine what this diet did to me after a week LOL. This was a great video!
I take 3000mg (yes, 3000 mg) a day. 1100 in the morning and the rest at night and sleep sooo much better. no diarrhea but now having some soft residual and irritation with a little blood when wiping but not every time.
The Keto diet and fasting have made me very constipated, and my leg cramps have returned. So thankful for magnesium! I just increased my dose of Mag07 (a high dose form of magnesium oxide) and ordered an extended release magnesium (6 hour) by Life Extension. I will take the extended release at bedtime, since I always get the cramps when lying down. I hope this helps others suffering from these issues.
Marie Whitman If I remember correctly, mag oxide is the least well absorbed mag. Check out Super Magnesium by GNC. Can take one or two tabs, 2 to 3 times a day.
Glad I found this. I've had intermittent issues w bowel. But, I would take oregano oil pills and bowels back to normal. Apparently that might be killing my good bacteria. I'll try kombucha n lomotil. Thank you
I was having troubles staying out of the bathroom the first week of keto diet. I found MCT oil to be the problem. All is good. I find the information in your presentations incredibly helpful. Thank you
Thanks, Doc! Thank God for adult diapers. Diarrhea since April 17. This long term symptom has happened two other times when I went low carb and started eating fat every meal. Grateful to know I might be participating in the healng of something wrong on my gut.
After I switched to keto and eliminated most sugars, my occasional diarrhea stopped. I still get a little constipation, but even still, there is no bloating or abdominal discomfort like there used to be.
I've been off keto for about 2 months so I could thicken my hair loss and how I celebrated my first soft sausage size poop!! First real poop since the 12 months I was in ketosis. Went back into ketosis Sunday this week and kick starting it by fasting for 2 days and the liquid poo came right back!!!! Today was an eat day keto style so I hope this thickens things up a bit. Thanks for the reminder about the tea.
Had diarrhea for a few days months ago and couldn't have that happening at work so I stopped keto. I will try again, with the help of immodium & healing my small intestine with kombucha tea.
I had diarrhea and stomach pain on my 2nd week of keto, and it only lasted for a week. I took oral rehydration salt for every bowel movement to replace my electrolytes. Now, i feel better.
Dr. Boz Thank you for your information. I recently did a 36 hour fast. When I broke my fast I took my regular pills including mega magnesium, cod oil, and coconut oil pills. I also ate eggs, ham, coffee with heavy cream and gee. I had explosive diarrhea afterwords. I couldn't get out of my home. I have been on keto since September and this is the first time I've had such affect. I have had some history of colitis/diverticulitis. I hope this explosive diarrhea means my colon and large intestine is cleansing.
1 ArcticPlasmaCreature. Ever since I got my gall bladder removed I have had problems with my bowels. Of course it boils down to not being able to digest fat which has led to low vit D. However I definitely would like to include digestive enzymes and bile salts to help me. Thank you.
I tried keto and I had all the bad symptoms you mentioned. I am not fat, I am rather ok-ish I just wanted to lose some fat but boy it really screw me over. Diarrhea, bloating, gasses, feeling ill etc.
Very helpful, I hope. Will try what you suggest.( I am the diarrhoea patient) Oh, it’s bad, can’t go anywhere. First thing I tried is reintroducing some carbs. I don’t want or need to loose weight, tried keto because it appears so healthy. And I have been called a health freak. 83 and pretty fit, no arthritis etc. Thank you for being there.
Thank you for this video, seriously. I’m Day 4 Keto and the bowls are pure liquid and uncontrollable. I get tummy aches after I eat and I’m just not very happy. Before starting this diet I think I damaged my gut from gluten (partly why I’m doing Keto now). I also believe my anxiety and depression and school related stress have damaged my GI track. I hope what you say is right and I will get over it and my bowls will repair. I’m going to try your tips, and again thank you for putting out this video!
Rhianon Morrison - stay the course. This goes away. Be sure to read the blog linked in the show notes. That give the summary quite well. Also .. you can see a faster adaption in cases of “yucky gut” when the mitochondria use ketones better. KETOSIS gets your mitochondria in better shape .. if you want to speak it up - drink BHB.
Dr. Boz [Annette Bosworth, MD] thank you for the quick reply. I hoping with time and the utilization of your tricks it will sort it’s self out. I think I also have to go back to purchasing lactose free dairy products. Btw I love your channel - just found it, but it’s so informative! Thank you!
DOC....YOUR THE COMBINATION OF DOC, LARGE ANIMAL VET ( your comfort around all kinds of poop) CAR MECHANIC...and a plumber. I bought your audible book and its amazing..im going to purchase it for friends.
This makes me feel better. Another video said if you have diarrhea, see your doctor because you probably have a small bowel issue. It freaked me out because I do. Now I understand what the “issues” are. I lost 18 inches of small bowel due to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma about 10 years ago. It would have been nice if any of the docs I had beck then would have given me this info. I am going to have my vitamin D tested.
My father, my brother and myself all have stomach troubles. Not to mention the pancreatic cancer in the family. I was drinking kombucha everyday for a while to heal my stomach, but ended up with some type of yeast acne all over my forehead instead.
Finally, someone who could explain what diarrhea is all about on Keto. Makes sense. Thank you so much.
Watching this from the toilet. Thank you 😂

I have IBS-D and the Keto Diet gives me bad diarrhea, I am on my 2 month and I will continue thank to you
My stomach and mood has never been worse and im on keto. Im 2 month in. I will try kombucha.
Very very helpful. I had my suspicions about IBS before. You give me hope that if I stick with this things could improve. Thank you
No wild Cherry MIlk of Magnesia, for keto it has 19g of carbs per 60ml full adult serving
Very good - I did keto for 3 months - weight loss was terrific but the constipation was terrible - and never left me - so it put me off ever trying keto again - May try it soon and adopt your tips - I love cabbage
Thank you Dr. Boz, answered all my questions. Was worried about diarrhea but we are going to push forward.
I suffer from panic attacks and depression , the I get stressed often and I get a nervous stomach feeling often. I’ve also noticed my Ph balance is off. I’ve done keto and intermittent fasting before and this didn’t happen, but I’m going to give myself some time to heal my body again.
I read that avocado is a good source of magnesium.
IF has helped me with acid reflux ❤️💙🦋
Thanks. I've been needing more ideas about constipation. Thanks again!
Skipped the Keto flu and I have done carnivor before so I thought I was well prepped for Keto but I have to say the Diarrhea is astonishing...
Diarhea happens when I overdo the MCT oil. Especially if I am also taking fish oil.
For me, Almond flour produces an endless flow of kidney stones. From Oct to Feb I passed 22 stones until I figured it out.
Do you mean that almond flour gave you kidney stones.
Constipation: Cabbage, chia seeds, milk of magnesia (if it gets real bad)
Diarrhea: (blowouts), Vit D deficiency, Lomotil (limited use), kombucha tea (1/4 cup/day), IF
I'm so glad I found your channel. Information broken down so well that I can understand and in great detail. Thank you!
Thanx!
Just started watching your videos Doc. Great info delivered by a genuinely caring human being. Hard to beat that. Thx.
Awesome video. Constipation is a most unpleasant side effect of keto and fasting and not good advice for managing is not always available.
I think you are awesome. I am not on your diet but love watching and listening to what you have to say. I did buy your book too.
oh WOW you just gave me profound insight... I've been eating keto for 4 weeks and, yes, things have been explosive. Now I know what to do. THANK YOU.
Very helpful! It encourages me to just keep at it!
Glad I found this. I've had intermittent issues w bowel. But, I would take oregano oil pills and bowels back to normal. Apparently that might be killing my good bacteria.
I'll try kombucha n lomotil. Thank you
Your A Highly Intelligent Doctor. Love ❤️ You . Cheers
Lamotil is not over the counter
My bad. Loperimide
I was having troubles staying out of the bathroom the first week of keto diet. I found MCT oil to be the problem. All is good. I find the information in your presentations incredibly helpful. Thank you
@@DoctorBoz
I was searching for this clarification. Thank you!
Thanks, Doc!
Thank God for adult diapers.
Diarrhea since April 17. This long term symptom has happened two other times when I went low carb and started eating fat every meal. Grateful to know I might be participating in the healng of something wrong on my gut.
I think you hit the nail on the head, doc!
Same here. I'm on my 2nd week
Thanks for covering this for people.
I use lemon water and airborne it’s so magical and both are keto friendly
What is airborne?
Airborne is not keto friendly 🤦♂️
Thanks, your advice is priceless. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I get it from having gallbladder removed. I add digestive enzymes and bile salts....really helps a game changer for me. Thank you !!!!
1 ArcticPlasmaCreature. Ever since I got my gall bladder removed I have had problems with my bowels. Of course it boils down to not being able to digest fat which has led to low vit D. However I definitely would like to include digestive enzymes and bile salts to help me. Thank you.
I experienced constipation the first two days of keto now I notice yellowish oil stool. Is this a bad sign? Thank you so much for your video!
Try 3 -4 tps of Organic Extra Virgin Olive oil (Cold Press). In the morning on a empty stomach. 🤠
Rhianon Morrison - BHB is a nice trick - but start slowly. Your bowel has to “remember” how to function. BHB : amzn.to/2D8Xbr8
Dr. Boz [Annette Bosworth, MD] thank you for the quick reply. I hoping with time and the utilization of your tricks it will sort it’s self out. I think I also have to go back to purchasing lactose free dairy products. Btw I love your channel - just found it, but it’s so informative! Thank you!
Rhianon Morrison how did it go?
?????
Tip to make milk of magnesia taste better is keep it in the refrigerator the cherry flavor is the best cold.
DOC....YOUR THE COMBINATION OF DOC, LARGE ANIMAL VET ( your comfort around all kinds of poop) CAR MECHANIC...and a plumber. I bought your audible book and its amazing..im going to purchase it for friends.
Put a tsp of coconut oil in a cup or two of coffee every morning.
Thank you very much for the wonderful video
Love your style and info. God bless you.
Thanks for addressing this concern
Thanks, Dr. Boz! A video on IBS -C and keto diet would also be helpful.
What a GREAT video doc! So much good info.
Have you read/listened to the book?

Add Himalayan salt to my coffee daily to cut the acid.
Diarrhea is my side effect in the beginning but only a few days. Probiotics help!
Lomotil isn’t over the counter. Imodium is
This makes me feel better.
Dr Boz I sincerely believe that you are the only Dr on UA-cam that has a PhD.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
My father, my brother and myself all have stomach troubles. Not to mention the pancreatic cancer in the family. I was drinking kombucha everyday for a while to heal my stomach, but ended up with some type of yeast acne all over my forehead instead.
Dr thanks a lot for sharing. I have IBS so i will endure with the diarrhea. Lymothill don't work on me.I have no choice but to do intimmiten fasting
Thank you, I need to add vit D, not having explosive issues, just a couple of day here and there, but I think I need to also cut back on the oils.
Thank you Dr Boz, you give me hope.
I think it's called SIBO: Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth. And green banana or green plantain are good diarrhea remedies.
I will try this...
Not keto friendly...eat salt and water.
