  • If you are new to keto-eating, you may not have heard of these three magical letters: MCT. A seasoned keto veteran still ought to read this post with a high level of focus. MCT stands for Medium Chain Triglycerides. Let's get to the truth about them.Watch out. There is a lot of misinformation out there.
Here is a good option for MCT: bit.ly/2Qzvvn5
Pick the PURE MCT or the PURE C8. Both are "the good stuff."

I just started the Keto diet a week ago. I cleaned out the pantry, went shopping, meal prepped, and started my adventure. Don't think I am in ketosis yet but I am hoping soon the weight will start falling off. Love Dr. Boz video's.

I love listening to you so much better than anyone else on the subject of keto. You explain it so well. I have a autoimmune disorder psoriasis. MCT would definitely help me. I started keto yesterday and my psoriasis is flaring up big time. Hopefully with this diet and MCT oil it will go in remission.

I’ve been watching other Keto channels that cover the science but none is as thorough and easy to understand as Dr Boz! I’m obsessed with this channel, I wanna study these videos like they’re curriculum for a class on how to fuel a body optimally. I use coconut oil. I started taking it several years ago because I was not as smart as I need to be on my job. I was working as a computer controls system engineer. That is a very complex job as you can imagine. Taking coconut oil did it for me. My brother, who has Parkinson's, tried it and got some noticeable improvement also. I'm sure MCT oil is just as good. I am keto adapted and don't really need MCT oil to get into ketosis.

Dr. Bosworth, as with all of your vids, I truly appreciate your thorough explanation of the science. I hope people watch this presentation, since there are other "doctors" claiming you can just buy some cheap organic coconut oil and derive benefits. I also appreciate your style- no arrogant, hard selling attitude from the muscle head dudes which I had to sit through before discovering your channel. Thanks again!

@Absolutely nothing on my channel Hi I hope your doing well since your post last month. I wonder if you have tried Ketorade? There are various recipes on youtube but here is what I do: 1 liter Mountain Valley Sparkling Spring Water - flavored, Stevia water drops in a matching flavor, Nu-salt which is basically potassium (not no-salt), 40 drops Trace minerals liquid minerals, 2 Tbs organic apple cider vinegar, 2 Tbs organic lemon juice. You can use the lime flavored water and stevia, and with the lemon it might taste a bit like Mt.Dew? I also do a berry version. It's fizzy and delicious! I hope this helps :)

    Hello Dr. Boz Annette
    I thank you very much
I'm using a glucose meter and now a ketone breathing meter too
for calculating the Dr. Boz ratio
I started making ketones on a ketogenic diet mostly feed with coconut oil (but not only) two months ago
I just made this last month with a rather high mean glucose value of 180
    very stable but never low
I stopped taking pills (I'm still trying to take them sometimes but it goes worse)
my ketones numbers are not that big : less than 1
that changed yesterday and I got frightened because my meter screen was red coloured and the value was 6.8
hopefully it did not last (I made some sport and it went to three and a yellow screen)
today I'm about 1.5 on ketones and my glucose value dropped to 102
that makes a DBR (Dr. Boz ratio) about 70
    and I'm glad about it
just one point to tell you all the good changes I feel in my body
I was used to feel pain in my feet as soon as I got up every morning
it changed a few days ago
and now I feel like I walk on a carpet of rose petals
I am near 69 years old and my T2 diabetes is thirty years of age
I bought your book on audible and started to read it
but I was frightened about drinking MCT oil and I still have not buy any
now I think I'll go MCT
actually I've been waiting for it for a so long time
and it's just happening in my body
I didn't think it would be possible for a man with a badly treated thirty years old T2 diabetes
it's still not finished but it's on the way
I got used to watch you on the videos you make
And I feel like you are a very very good friend
I'll give you news from time to time
    jpaul chevalier

Yours is vital to one who has forgotten certain suggestions, and has been working hard to get back into keto. Think I'm there, been using MCT for 6 months, and my 'pants are falling off' again. I have severe pain and arthritis so I’m fighting inflammation, I will start using it again and see if I can get some positive results. Right now I notice a big difference if I don’t eat an avocado each day. I only eat in the morning and then I fast because my digestion has been so damaged from medications when I was younger.

i think it really makes a difference in my diet. after the first year of keto and losing 25kg of weight, the weight loss stopped and in the third year of keto half of the weight came back. also my ketones are pretty low at 0,5. i remember that i had 2 liter bottles of MCT in the first year. that may have played a significant role in fat burning and ketone production too.
doing a lot of research on pubmed in the last few days, i found out that the magic happens in the mitochondria - well, it is always the mitochondria, isn't it?
after the liver produced more ketones they go into all cells in the body and change the respiratory quotient. that means that the mitochondria are burning less glucose in favor of fatty acids. and because of this shift in the mitochondria, the hunger goes down. hunger always comes from the usage of blood sugar. but because of more fat burning, there is also more glycerol as a by-product which gets turned into blood glucose. and because the brain loves to use keytones, it spares glucose too.
the same happens when i take sodium bicarbonate, the fat liberation/burning enzymes work much faster because of a higher pH level surrounding them, which means that they burn less glucose.
synergistic to that is taurine as a pH buffer.
    conclusion ==>
MCT + sodium bicarbonate + taurine = more fat burning and less glucose burning

When I started fasting until reaching the level of intermittent fasting (IF; i.e., 16 hrs/day based on common recommendations), I started with 12 hours overnight fasting (i.e., 12 hours from my dinner meal). And from there, I adjusted. For about 1 or 2 weeks, I was able to sustain it until it has become a norm for me.
Then I started to use virgin coconut oil (VCO) & water as my initial breakfast 12 hours from dinner; 1 tbsp VCO + 1 glass water.
From there, my first heavy meal will be 2 hours after taking VCO & water.
After adjusting further, I increased VCO to 2 tbsp then pushed my first heavy meal to 4 hours after taking VCO & water.
So that from my dinner to my first heavy meal of the next day, the time difference about 14 or 16 hours depending on my state of hunger. In a way, it is a modified IF. So far, it is working for me.
    Have a good day y'all!

I pay a bit more but take just straight C8 my body had adapted to it. start with a tsp and work you way up to a Tbls over a week or two no problems after that. Its the fist thing I take in the morning usually in a keto smoothie

In your list C12 is classified as LCFA but according to NIH and many medical textbooks, C12 is in the range of MCFA. I will be glad if you point me out to some reference where it states that C12 is not MCFA.
Thanks for sharing this information with us and looking forward to your comment.

I thought that ketones were a byproduct of your body burning fat, not a product that makes your body burn fat. Please explain.

An excellent video, though a couple additional things would have made it even better: 1. How much MCT oil is enough? 2. Dealing with the side-effects of MCT oil.
