When a 56 year old man cries over watching old music videos like the CARS... well, you know how important they were in his life growing up. Great memories of great days gone by. RIP Ben and Ric. If you only know how your songs bring back so many great fond memories..
49 over here was just seven when they first came out but my dad liked them in all my uncles did so I've been a fan forever. It's hard to explain to younger people and they ask questions all the time about the '80s. Like they ask questions like what was it like back then cuz they hear so many good things and I assume the late 70s as well. And I tell him that the music used to make a big difference in our lives. It's kind of hard sometimes to convey the concept. I just go with the old adage of how art imitates life and life imitates art. So many of my memories growing up and over the years into spirits I think at the time and I completely think of the music that went along with it

They could've played any number of their great songs to honor Ben though. 'Bye, Bye Love' was a great one, and Ben sang it so well. A great bass player and powerful lead singer, Ben was way too cool for school!
They only ever played with another bassist in the Rock n Roll HOF, which was the current bassist for Weezer. I think they just skipped bass on tour and live performances after and before that.
Yeah, that's pretty amazing and very admirable. It does take away from their performance though. The fantastic bassline is my favourite part of Let's Go!
I think on this tour, keyboardist Greg Hawkes would play Bass with synchronized keyboard parts for some songs because he played the bass on Move Like This, which was the album they reunited to make and this tour was to promote that. They used Synchronized bass parts for the songs Ben would’ve played on out of respect for their bandmate. So yeah while they never officially had Bens spot filled, Greg still took over for Ben on the new stuff. I believe the band would also always have one of Ben Orr’s basses on stage at all times too.
@Rick C. that is the original lead singer Ric Ocasek. Benjamin Orr originally sang lead on this song, but he passed away awhile ago from cancer. Ocasek was one of the lead singers for the cars. Him and Orr split lead vocals on their songs. Hope this helps you
I found myself looking for Ben.....and then I thought 💭. you idiot he's gone. It was great they didn't just throw a bass player in there. Much respect to Ric and all of them for this! They still sounded great! I miss them!!

@@arnoldsanders6878 Which is probably why Ric chose to do it. Honoring the guy that wasn't there. During that brief reunion tour they did after releasing Move Like This they had one of Ben's basses onstage at all times.
I was 17 when the Cars debuted in 1978 and I was immediately attracted to them because they were different. Terrific band and great tribute to Ben by not having anyone play bass - RIP Ben and Ric
Listen closer, people: there IS someone playing bass on this performance. They're unseen, that's all, probably playing backstage, but nonetheless heard.
It is actually sequenced by Greg Hawkes who also played studio bass parts on "Move Like This", at times using one of Ben's old basses. "Move Like This" is a fine album. What is obviously missing here and on that album are Ben's always solid backing vocals.
There is definitely a bass in what I am hearing. I just do not see anybody playing one. My first guess is I see the keyboard player has an open laptop. So I would say he is running midi or a track that has the bass on it and the band is playing along with it. The drummer has headphones on so he can hear the click track that they are playing with. You can definitely hear the bass. I am a bass player and I hear it. My guess it is midi to his keyboard.
Ric performed an amazing vocal here....he knew better than anyone how "prettier" Ben's voice was...Ric said it and often...wrote a song and handed it to Ben to take the lead vocal. Pisses me off when people criticize him for singing Ben's lead vocals now. I can't imagine anyone else standing in for Ben and I imagine Ben wouldn't want anyone else standing in for him either. Cheers.

The most impressive thing about The Cars in their come-back is when they toured - they did it themselves. No backup singers. No replacement bass player. No anything - just the four of them trying to replicate the sounds of the 1980s without Ben Orr- and doing a pretty good job of it. They even managed to put out an album with two more top 40 hits. I have a hard time seeing other bands doing this - I think REM did it as well but that is about it.

The Cars were my first "real" concert. MY dad took me and my brother to the Spectrum in 1978 here in Philadelphia. I think I was 13 years old. Then we bought the knock-off t-shirts in the parking lot on the way out that fell apart after one washing. But the whole experience was awesome! Thanks, Dad!
I have been gorging on the CARS...this week...I am 62 years old...I grew up with their music...always liked it...never knew WHO they were...but they sounds incredible to me now...its rare music.....STUFF THAT TRANSCENDS TIME.....this does. Yes, Ben had a magical voice...and did a fantastic vocal job...but Ric is banging this out at age 73, wrote the song...and I wouldn't have known the difference had I not been watching a zillion UA-cams of their life.
Ric was the most unlikely of stars...but yet he always looked so cool...and embodied the image and energy of the band! RIP to Ric O...thank you and Ben for such sweet tunes!
I'm a little late to this party. But as someone who grew up listening to The Cars; saw them perform live before they broke up there is only one person alive who should be singing the songs that Ben did lead vocals on and that's Ric Ocasek! Great rendition of one of my fav Cars songs too
Peter Criss played no small part in me becoming a drummer. When I got my first kit for Christmas in 1980, my older brother told me to learn 2112. After a few weeks of listening and having ZERO idea how someone like Neil Peart (RIP, Professor) could actually play ALL OF THOSE NOTES, I brought the record back to my older brother, almost in tears. He said, “stop being a baby and play this” and handed me Candy-O. It was the boost of confidence I needed. My brother and I started a band my sophomore year in high school and we played together for many years, through college and beyond. I believe The Cars made that possible, they really made that happen for us. My youth was filled with a bunch great moments, many of them based around musical performances, and I attribute a good bit of that joy to The Cars. I’m 54 and misting up because I’m a nostalgic, old fart.
I saw The Cars in 1983 in Wake Forrest NC, absolutely incredible! They sounded just perfect like their records. Ric Ocasek said they were not a jam band, it didn't matter, they nailed it and had a perfect 2 set list that kept it going! One of the best sounding concerts I have ever been to. Benjamin Orr is sorely missed. He had an great stage presence and great vocals. I was a perfect slice in time in rock and roll history. No one had their sound or their eccentric quirks. You had to be a great musician period. If you weren't, it would show. Each of them were great, together astonishing!
@@augmentedkeys5971 No. Ric wrote it and almost every other Cars song (Greg Hawkes got credit as a co-writer on 4 or 5, including "Moving In Stereo") No one else wrote for the Cars besides those two.
A classic 80's Band with a multitude of great hits and other songs ...that may have not been as "commercial" ...but great songs as well. Yes, after Bens passing Ric took over the vocals completely. What else could they do? Ric and the band showed immense respect for Ben, as they never thought about replacing him. Ben was to the Cars, as John Bonham was to Led Zepplin. Bens beautiful voice brought more attention to Ric's lyrics. Now we have lost Ric...but The Cars music will live on forever! ...RIP Benjamin Orr & Ric Ocasek🎶🎼🎸🙏

What a great sound! The only band that could pull off that "new wave" genre and make it appeal to the masses. Just fantastic!
Fantastic job !!I like The Classy way they did this you cannot replace Benjamin Orr!!!! Great job boys!!
R.I.P. Ric Ocasek. Just heard the news today :(
I have been gorging on the CARS...this week...I am 62 years old...I grew up with their music...always liked it...never knew WHO they were...but they sounds incredible to me now...its rare music.....STUFF THAT TRANSCENDS TIME.....this does. Yes, Ben had a magical voice...and did a fantastic vocal job...but Ric is banging this out at age 73, wrote the song...and I wouldn't have known the difference had I not been watching a zillion UA-cams of their life.
Sad to see one car missing...Ben was a great rock vocalist and an excellent bassist
Gotta say, I loved this, Elliot is the gold standard. Actually brought tears to my eyes thinking of Benjamin, Rock on guys.
I never realized Ric Ocasek was in his 70's ….Hell it was all fun . RIP Ric Ocasek !! Love the CARS !!
Ric did a great job singing for Benjamin!
Ric was the most unlikely of stars...but yet he always looked so cool...and embodied the image and energy of the band!
RIP to Ric O...thank you and Ben for such sweet tunes!
Ric, you'll be forever missed! 💔 Give Benjamin a hug for me! 🤗
Great underrated band. Great job Ric singing
I'm a little late to this party. But as someone who grew up listening to The Cars; saw them perform live before they broke up there is only one person alive who should be singing the songs that Ben did lead vocals on and that's Ric Ocasek! Great rendition of one of my fav Cars songs too
RIP Mr Ocasek. I was 17 when this song was released. I had forgotten how many wonderful catchy pop tunes Ric created for us all to enjoy
Greg is carrying such a heavy load here and doing such a cool job. This is great!
The 80's and the Cars were the best! Thanks Ric! RIP
Wish I could go back in time and see these guys in concert in the 80s.
Funny how people say Elliot is underrated, the man had a lifelong career in music...I'd say he rated just fine w those who mattered.
Exactly,& in my opinion also awesomely a superior guitarist!
They are stupid
One of my favorite bands- they still sound great. Rest In Peace, Ben Orr- you are greatly missed!
This Band is My Youth! May God Bless you all! RIP Ben and Rik!
Anen,& I'm a musician of many years. They are definitely great musicians.
Still one of my Fav of many Cars songs, Ric did a GR8 job IMO ..will miss him and Ben..Glad The Cars got inducted into HOF
their best song
Oh they look so old... Sad to see them like this
RIP Ric and thank you for the great music
so great to see ric ocasek sing that great song he wrote ! RIP
Just heard Rick Ocasek past away. Rest in peace my friend and thanks for the music. Please give our regards to Ben !
Drive was one of my favorite songs by the cars Rip Rick ocasek !!🎼🎹🥁🎤🎧🤟🏻✌️👍
I know
@@augmentedkeys5971 No.
No can do without the shining beauty of BEN ORR. FOREVER.IN LOVE BEN ORR
I don't know how much more I can take. First Eddie Money and now Ric. Truly a sad moment. 😭 RIP.....
I'm glad the band is still playing. Man it sucks not seeing Benjamin there but I know he's rocking next to them! keep it up Cars
I like that they are doing it with no bass guitar. Just kept going with the keys filling in for the bass. RIP Benjamin.

"I like that they are doing it with no bass guitar. Just kept going with the keys filling in for the bass. RIP Benjamin."
What keys is that? Keys player has his hands at his sides at 1:57 while bass is clearly playing.
dobb673 its called looping
Laptop is playing the bass....theres an Ampeg Amp and 8 x 10 cab on the amp line as well.
Something about their music always makes me happy! Love the Cars.
nobody else could have pulled this song off but Ric, after Bens passing, One great group.
A time in music that is Absolutely Timeless, Classic, and never again to be repeated....
I'm still devastated. RIP, Ric
RIP Ric, Thank you for the fantastic music my friend, listened to it all my adult life.
RIP Ric! the Cars are one of the best bands ever that produced a lot of cool music over the decades.
RIP Ric. The Cars first three albums particularly played a musical role in my teen years. Excellent music to play loud in your CAR and sing along when no one else can hear ;-) Thank you for the music and the magic.
