I wish they could have played right into “All Mixed Up”. To me, those two tracks together are one of the greatest moments in recorded music history and I always listen to them together if I can. Ben Orr was greatly missed here. Awesome his son got to see him inducted and his band play live under such circumstances.
I loved when David Robinson in his acceptance speech said so humbly I just play ! Meanwhile he came up with the name of the band, great drummer, and did all of their album covers!
I've been a fan since day 1. The longer you listen to The Cars, the more realize how important EVERY member was in the band. Moving in stereo, listen to the keyboards, drums, bass then guitars ....just WOW!!! Miss you Ric AND Ben😢. Ric did a good job with this song but he doesn't have the low singing musicality of Ben. Sorry if some disagree.🙄
This performance probably wasn't that popular back in 2018, but because it was the last Cars performance with Ric Ocasek, it's now quite popular... and also sad. RIP Ric Ocasek
That was intentionally the point of the surviving members to play songs Ben sang. Virtually all song lyrics came from Ric but they had an agreement; all the great songs Ben would sing. This was difficult for the Cars at RRHOF but they insisted to include Ben in spirit with the songs he sang in the.past regardless of the comparable outcome in his absence.
@@aylabouvier1850 I meant that comment for you. They just never were as good after Benjamin got booted out. Ric could never sound as good as Benjamin and his bass playing. RIP BENNY 🎸🧡✝️🇺🇲
I was there, was a thrill to finally see The Cars perform since I missed the Move Like This tour. They made us stand outside in pouring rain for 2 hours but it was worth it.
Apparently, people miss Ben Orr astronomically. On the Hall of Fame website, songs like You Might Think have over 500,000 hits now. This song only has 48,000 views. Big difference. I also miss Ben Orr, but I give them credit for trying to honor him by singing the song he sang lead on.
I can only imagine how Ric probably felt doing Bens part in this song. Tough. Real Tough. Ben was THE voice for The Cars in so many songs, especially this one.
My fav song by them. I wish they would have thanked Paulina Poriskova. Ric's wife who was in the video "Drive" and "you might think". No mention was made of her.
Probably the saddest loss I ever felt for "famous" people. First Ben, then Ric. For some reason though I picture Ric having a smile on his face at the end. Like, "Mission Accomplished."
Ok. A wonderful time to be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame... but much more praise should IMO have been given to Benjamin Orr. The bass guitar doesn't come close. And no one could have possibly been as a beautiful human as Benjamin not only looks wise, but talented so much!!!❤❤❤
I hate to say this, but I honestly think they should have just let Ben’s voice stay the voice of the Cars songs that he sang. Ric just can’t match his inflection or energy. Never could. Ric has his own special lyrical and vocal thing going, and enough hits to fill an entire show. He has his own genius going, different from Ben. And I think they could have avoided doing songs Ben sings at least at an event as important as this, where Ric’s vocals just fall awkwardly flat. Or at the very least they should have had Elliot or Greg double his vocals, especially at the parts where Ben really stretched it. This would have added more depth and punch in the places where Ric’s voice stretches a bit too thin in place of Ben’s. But it is what it is. I’m still glad we got one last late surge of The Cars. I thought Move Like This was definitely worthy of their earlier catalog. But there were three or four songs in it that could have really used Ben’s vocals, of course!
I love Ric but nobody sang some of those tunes like Ben Orr… fuck cancer !!! I thought that whole band was amazing, they capture so many decades of tone into their songs.
Just the same, if it was Ric who had died first, Ben probably would have had a similar reaction to having to sing in Ric's place. Imagine Ben singing "My Best Friend's Girl" or "You Might Think."
@@rpmangin Personally, I think they would have sounded better with Rick singing them especially "Best Friend's Girl". Ben obviously had a much better, richer voice, but they were Rick's songs and he knew how to sing the songs in a way that his voice matched the mood and humor of the songs. In other words, his lyrics helped cover up some of his deficiencies as a singer. It's always nice to have a band with 2 singers, also. It gives the band more depth.
I really don't understand why the Cars have to play songs that Ben sang. They did this on their 2011 tour also. I'm sorry but it just doesn't work and Ric wrote so many songs why don't they just stick to those. If this was meant as a tribute to Ben I guess I'm missing it. This just feels weird and creepy.
Those Coked up dunderheads in the HOF almost waited too long to give the Cars the recognition they deserved. Rick almost died before getting into the HOF because the HOF Dope fiends liked to get high so much on Coke! The Cars should have been admitted right after they disbanded but as Rick James once said: Coke is a Helluva Drug! RIP Ric and Ben
as good as you could expect but there's a reason why Ben handled the vocals on this and others that Ric felt would sound better with his voice. Orr had a haunting and sexual tone that made songs like this sound just a little more dangerous.
@@charlesbender66 I wouldnt say Ocasek has a terrible voice, this was just always Ben's song to sing. Its pretty obvious here why Ric gave it to Ben back in 77. Ric sings on the original demo.

I don't think that Ric could have given All Mixed Up it's just due. Just shows how integral Ben was to the Cars sound.
Best Cars tune ever!
The cars were one of the best, if not the best, New Wave band, and this song represents this perfectly.

Definitely hard for the guys to perform without Benjamin and for Ric to sing Benjamin's part. Ric was emotional.
