My God, this band was great...Bass, drums, one guitar, one vocal, and what a sound. Amazing arrangements, energy, superb songwriting, looks. They had it all, one of those few.
Actually, when bands play live , every member can mistakes but you just gotta keep on playing. It's all good. They were at the tail end of their reunion.
Stewart has his own totaly uniqe style and sound The same with Sting and Andy Together these 3 created one of the most iconic band and songs forever and noone could ever take that away from the musichistory. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
After years of learning to appreciate music and artists and learning the meaning of radio musical talent, I've grown to really like and respect Sting and the Police. Now I can't get enough of the music!!!
My older cousin Arlene played their record for me when I was a tween. Immediately a fan. Our family were musicians. The ya younger gen then play g Latin jazz and the older generation traditional Romany music. All beautiful, but Sting/ the police were so unique. And those drums! It was all just love!
Damn they sound amazing! So cool that they trust each other to stretch out & jam like this after not playing together for so long. And props to Sting throwing in the bassline to "King in the Arena" to remind us of his reggae roots.
Bloody hell!!! Forgot about this. They hadn't played for like a hundred years, then they come back and play like this, unbelievably amazing, Stings voice is unreal, they all are. Other bands must have been like, 'shit, what are we doing wrong"...
Given their incredibly uniquely driven musical personalities, it’s truly a wonder that they “banded” together 4 as long as they did. Each player, Sting, Stewart & Andy had vigorous musical visions as well as huge personalities that inevitably clashed and rubbed to produce insanely great musical germinations. It was the rubbing of sticks and tinder to create this compelling sound, so to speak. The Police are an unimaginably inimitable band of musicians that will never be replicated. Thanks for the music that provided a musical soundtrack for millions of musical dreamers around the world! My musical appetite usually gets fed well after a few listens of The Police. It’s musical nourishment that usually hits the spot! Thanks for the musical memories ! 🎶
Sting always looks to give a far more commanding performance with the police than he ever does as a solo artist. It’s almost as though it gives him an extra gear!
I saw Sting in Perth in 2015 and he sung this like the original. He was in concert with Paul Simon, who sounded very, very, very old. But Sting was incredible.
@adduxe You got that right. The Police was one of the few rock bands that weren't restricted to antiquated classic rock radio idioms. They are a soulful rock band that incorporated great Black music (reggae, r&b and jazz) with punk music and it was a great synthesis.
Love this song a Friend of mine her name is Roxeann and she listened to this song while in Recovery it was her story Today She is a Mama and is doing well ✌️♥️
I grew up listening to the Police, love them. Listening to Roxanne at the induction concert, Sting is so indulgent. He is playing his interpretation of the amazing classic hit. I now know why Stewart and Andy might have grown weary of him.
I know this is an old comment, but: It's not that different from the way they played it live in the 1970s. They expanded a lot of their breaks; "Reggatta de Blanc" was originally the break from "Can't Stand Losing You." It's not exactly the same, but that's to be expected after three decades. Stewart indicated in their interview with Revolver a couple of decades ago that it wasn't until the last album Synchronicity that they really got on each other's nerves big time. Ghost in the Machine was a walk in the park by comparison.
One of a kind, favourite gig was the bowl at Milton Keynes 1980. Amazing, still got the programs from that gig . Black and white programme cost £1 and the coloured one cost me £2 .Great support squeeze and UB 40. Amazing time for music.
This is one of those rare songs that I remember where I was and who I was with when I first heard it! The other for sure is Love is the Drug by Roxy Music.
Saw them in concert for the first time during the reunion tour in the early 2000s at Giant's Stadium in NJ. It was nice to hear their music again. Too bad they really don't get along (although they now get along much better since they are not creating music together anymore). Sting has stated the response from the one reunion tour was "fantastic" but doing it again serves little purpose and there are diminishing returns - which he does not want. So this was the beginning of the end with this nice performance as the tour followed and put an end to them.
+TheKrazymofo5150 I agree! Any was really off his game for this show! Hell, he even had a strat with the Lace Sensor pickups. His tone should have been incredible but it sounded really thin and trebled out! He would have been better off playing his old Telecaster if that's all he could get out of his Strat.
I think Andy's best sound was back in 1979 with his Telly, Pete Cornish pedal board and Marshall JMP. To me Andy's sound during 2007 tour - with Mesa Boogie amp - was not the original Police guitar sound.
What I love about the Police is that's all 3 of them have grown old enough to keep things going like when they did for over 40 years! Sting's hair had grown throughout the years!
There is something almost inexplicably magical about this band and their sound. They have always been a mixed bag live. So it was disappointing to see this effort here after waiting so many years, knowing they would get inducted, and knowing they would also undoubtedly play at the induction ceremony -- back in this era all inducted bands did, unless a key member was dead. Initially I thought this version of Roxanne was a sad bystander to the original. It's funny how I keep coming back to it, and how it sounds better with each passing year. In Andy Summer's brilliant "One Train Later" he details how Sting became the chief songwriter, but how the three would work together to create a finished product. He referred to this as "toughening" up the sound, and "Policifying" songs. In their induction speech he also talks about how the three of them brought something special out of one another that may not have existed in another grouping of individuals. All three members are incredibly schooled musicians who created a sound, together, that continues to live and sound fresh. I'm talking now about their studio output. Those five albums are sonic rock brilliance. This sound will live for ages into the future and serve as a testament to three individuals, who, for a very short time, worked together to create music that swept up millions in a galvanizing wave.

His playing was kinda minimalistic and just safe playing . I was not that impressed at their 2007 show. But I can say that I went to a police show in my lifetime, I guess. Who the hell listens to Elvis Costello & when did anyone ever hear his songs on the radio? Did he ever have a top 40 hit? Was his name Elvis the reason he got in? He doesn't look, perform or play like Elvis. This induction is a joke when you take into account all the great bands that are omitted from the hall. Agreed, but Sting seems to be a bit uncomfortable being around Andy and Stuart.
indeed, still great and sounds fresh
I agree did you see them in concert
Stewart Copeland’s mistakes are 100 times more compelling that most drummers’ best work.
Nah, I don't think so!

sbrave lol not quite
Stewart Copeland is really good on Drums.bloody good!fucking hell!
Glad to see people universally realizing that Stewart is the reason this band is great.
They're all great - and without Sting's songwriting the band would've been half of what it was, as both Andy and Stewart have said.
Their sound is a 3 legged stool Voice/Drums/Guitar you need all three.
