Great episode : nice not to watch glorious sanding 😉 Good to see Jamie, too. And these views from the Needles are terrific (never been there). Beautiful kite, the most visible business card ever !
Hi George, what a fantastic video. Really enjoyed it. More sailing please and more Jamie. He was great. Seems like he was a perfect sailing partner. Currently saving for my first Yacht. Learning so much from your refit videos as well. Perfect mix for me, all-be-it, hopefully with a bit more sailing. Appreciate you have to keep your day job going. Liberta's not too shabby a racer as well. BTW, have you ever done Fastnet?
Thank for the comment and keep saving for that first boat, it doesn’t need to be perfect it just needs to get you on that sailing journey and once you have some experience you will work out what is the right boat for you longer term. Yes, Jamie is a super nice guy and stay tuned for some more bungalow sailing with him and refit works in future videos. I have tried to do the fastnet a couple of times but it’s not really worked out, have done much longer races but it’s still a significant challenge and would be nice to tick it off the bucket list one day.
Thanks, pleased you enjoyed it, bit of a departure from the normal refit works and so the YT algorithm doesn’t know who to promote it too but that’s to be expected. Jamie has been persuaded to come for another race so more to come I think….
Love your channel and some sailing is absolutely appreciated! Both refit and sailing are parts of the boating life, both equally important and enjoyable! Contgrats, a result to be proud of, a well sorted cruising boat dont have to be slow.....
Thanks for the video!!! Took me back to my time on the Isle of Wight in 2006 (back in Oz now) with lots of Channel sailing. Would love to see your set up for your asymmetrical spinnaker. Thinking of getting one for my boat (Northshore 38 built in 1984).
Hi George, how crazy is this to come across your video, I was crewing on White Knight 7 with Oli. Did he send you the pics I took? I'm the one waving to you at 10:40.
Enjoyed the change of pace from the normal refit content, though I was kind of hoping you'd take advantage of the becalmed time to sand or varnish something... 😆
Really enjoyed this video George and a congrats to the both of you for a very good middle of the pack result! I have done both long distance cruising, including transat, and offshore racing and very much agree on your comments regarding crew well-being. Great to have a mix of sailing and refitting on your channel.
Thanks for the feedback, good to hear. It was always the plan to have a mix of refit works and sailing, hence the name of the channel, it’s just been a bit one sided the last few months!
Great George ! I as I am sure many others followed you and the race when it happened and I love the fact that you did it on a very solid however not racing boat - aka the bungalow. Watching now the race with “on boat coverage” was really nice and enjoyable. I think you did very well, in at times testing conditions - congratulations!
Great to see the Sealord in action, I brought mine back from Conwy N Wales in December ( no autopilot) and it was the sleep deprivation that was the hardest part. Great job guys !👍⛵️⛵️⛵️
Managing sleep when solo or two handed is the single hardest thing when racing (or even cruising although that’s less pressured). I had a brilliant hallucination once when racing offshore in a previous boat, but I knew it was a hallucination so I went to bed!
this is right up my alley: those who work hard get to play hard...and make up a second channel to not get screwed by the algorithm! Well done...after all that boat fixing we were wondering whether you have time off as well...and yes, my grandfather also did some corpoate entertainment on his yacht in Hamburg after WW II so it´s fine to be out with a trusted client as well!
Thanks Andreas, agree about the algorithm, YT doesn’t know who to promote my video to as it’s not refit related so the views are down on what have become normal levels but I want this to the the “refit and Sail” channel so will stick with it and hope the algorithm catches up!
I’m considering an Oceanlord 41 which is almost the same as your Sealord to use for Atlantic crossings, Caribbean cruising, and maybe some time in the Pacific but concerned about some of the spec numbers so would appreciate your input. Specifically the comfort ratio of 27 being on the low side and it’s not much fun doing long passages if the crew is not comfortable and feeling well. Also the sail area to displacement ratio is under 15 which means it’s not great in lighter air so I’ll need to carry more fuel as tank is not that large and I’ll have to motor more. I’m comfortable with spinnakers and light air sails if that’s the solution, I just prefer to do at least 3-4 knots in lighter air under sail rather than have to motor. You’ve done several Atlantic crossings etc so would appreciate any feedback (IFYI I’ve watched all your videos they have been great and part of the reason I’m looking at an Oceanlord) cheers. Jim
I’d say the majority were either racing-oriented or outright race boats, I don’t think there was another outright cruiser but there were a few older designs that we would use as a benchmark, the closest to us on handicap was a S&S Co38.
More sailing content is absolutely welcome. Great episode.
Good bit of sailing for a change and the funny hats just coming!😂
Great to see the racing and a surprisingly sprightly bungalow!⛵
Indeed! Thanks
I watch your channel because of the refit. However, I did enjoy watching the sail portion of the channel. Thank you for the change of pace.
Cool, thanks for the comment, plenty more refits stuff but I want to get more sailing onto the channel too as that’s kinda the point of the channel
Go Jamie 🙌🏾🙌🏾 woop woop

Glad you enjoyed it, yes the needles are quite a famous landmark and always nice to sail past.

Great to see some sailing on the channel. Mid fleet in a bungalow is good going😊. Come back soon Jamie. 👍

Would love to see videos on double handing. Any best practices etc…cruising or racing tips…
great to see you sailing again George, love the spinnaker, great result.
Thanks 👍.
Loving the sailing content. That's a surprisingly sprightly bungalow you've got there. 👍

more Jamie! good vid, thanks!
Great video - love the sailing content!
Thanks, appreciate the comment, More to come!
Great to see George. Was an interesting race! We had some ups and downs on DT. Great to see the sea lord stretching her racing legs.
It was, I noticed DT on the entry list, maybe see you on the water.
Great looking asym! Well done, fun race! Next, Round the Island! Thx, Andrew, Florida
Well you made great use of the 360 camera. Great footage George!
Bought with donations I get and this was its first outing, still learning how to use it but a very handy camera.
Yes, good to see the mix of sailing and refit
Love the sail racing.
Great, thanks for the comment!
It's great being along on a sail with you. Thanks.
Glad you enjoy it. More to come

Scary stuff this racing, I'll stick to cruising as I like a total exclusion zone of at least a nautical mile all round the boat.

That’s the problem with working on boats, when it comes to my free time it’s not always what I want to be doing!

Very enjoyable episode. Would have been interesting to see the boat preparation too. More Jamie too!😂
Thanks.

Great stuff George, very enjoyable as usual. You have an enviable knowledge & experience of refitting & sailing. Eagerly awaiting some CO32 sailing!
That would be nice, will try to plan in some co32 sailing over the summer.
With your new kite, it does look like a proper racer, or maybe like a super kitted-out cruiser doing proper racing! Well done George and Gent!
Definitely a cruiser but I always like to cruise efficiently as even cruisers want to make a decent passage time.

Great to see racing in a 'normal' boat. I had assumed RORC was 100% carbon fibre flying machines.
