I like it that you don't feel the need to bronze or contour for every makeup look.. You use makeup as something for skin.. Instead of using your skin for something to put all the possible makeup on.. You're really inspiring.
What I like so much about Lisa is how she is never shy to do a bold lip or a bold eyeshadow full on and yet at the same time she always manages to make it look classy and not exaggerated. She always finds the perfect balance.
@HollyRamblesOn if your lips are particularly dry, avoid the long lasting pencils all over the lips as, although they stay on better, they are more drying. Instead just use it after lipstick application as a shape corrector and blend over the colour so it looks natural x
+Hagiwara Mio I went to check when this video was uploaded and WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT WAS 6 YEARS AGO? I remember watching it whe she uploaded it and I had no idea I've been subscribed to her for over 6 years.
I really like the fact that you don't smother your skin in foundation. You use makeup to accentuate, not to falsify or create something that's not there. We need more beauty gurus like you!!
I did a wedding last week where the bride and bridesmaids wanted burgundy lips, and this video was of enormous help to me! Especially sine they were all very fair complexions. Thank you again Lisa!
This is so inspiring! I've been somewhat collecting darker lipsticks because I find them beautiful but I always end up not daring to wear them because every time I put one on, I kind of slap it on full-force, it looks incredibly dark and I chicken out. I'll try the dabbing on technique tomorrow!
I always dab them on with either the lipstick itself (very carefully/gently tapping it on the lips)or with one finger. And it actually makes them stay on better, especially if you dab just a tiny bit of powder on top of it☺
Brilliant tutorial Lisa! Berry & plum trends come & go. Being a lipstick addict I've succumbed to dark berry & wine shades & swore them off coz they looked too harsh or too Goth or too Punk on me. Now w/ your tutorial I realize I can follow the trend in a more glam & even more casual, wearable style. Thanks for teaching us the matching eye look. You're awesome!
Since I started watching your channel I really find other makeup tutorials lacking. Your technique and looks are wonderful and you make it so easy to understand and replicate!
For anyone who is interested 'MAC-Rebel' is a an amazing deep berry coloured lipstick. It is my all time favourite and can be built up from a warm berry stain to an intense dark colour. Another great one is number 107 in the new Kate Moss Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick. Would definitely recommend both x
She is brilliant at keeping a look sophisticated, understated and beautiful even when using very bold colors. You such a classic beauty Lisa! Love your videos
I have to say, I'm pretty new to the whole lipstick part, always been more of just applying mascara and that's it. But the last year I've started to enjoy makeup more and more and finally decided to jump on the lipstick train, and I find that Lisa is one of the best UA-camrs I've found in this area. So calm, really walking you trough it and giving great examples for different skin. Thank you!
I love how you teach to pull the whole look together. Watching you is like looking on as an artist starts a portrait. The importance of preparing the canvas and build to the focal point. I think that looking at a well made up face is like looking at a lovely painting. :) Thanks for this!
Yeah I agree. I also find that she is very real, and doesn't sound as monotone as many other makeup artists on youtube, and that makes her videos a lot more authentic and appealing to me
I love watching your videos, and have rewatched many of them multiple times! I always go back to them for reference when ever I want to achieve a certain look and my makeup skills have definitely improved from watching your videos!.
@katherynxx poor you darling..Rosacia is so difficult to deal with. Have you seen the new Vichy with dermablend sticks and liquid foundations? They are great. Very good coverage. I use them on a celebrity who has a similar problem x
Wow your videos are so timeless, so elegant and sophisticated, this is a video from 2010 and I'm binging your videos in 2017 and this applies to any year. Thank you, 😊😊 you teach techniques and not trends.
So I bought the YSL lipstick and wore it yesterday and it all looked great until I added the blush. I forgot what Lisa said about the blusher being in the same family colour as the lipstick and wore a peachy one which was awful. I quickly cleaned that off and switched to a light pink one which made all the difference. Thank you Lisa for all your explanations, shows how the tiniest detail can make or break a look.
I have to admit, I was in a bookstore when I saw a lady wearing the most gorgeous red lipstick and I can't take my eyes off. It was like "omagash, how could she pull that awesome color! WITCHCRAFT!" I'm fully aware I might look like a creep at that time, but yes, I believe people are looking because it looks gorgeous :)
Gorgeous looks! I have always loved the darker lips, especially now in the fall and winter seasons... Just purchased Clinique's Black Honey and it has quickly become my favorite!
Oh this is so beautiful! Perfectly suited to your coloring, I think, Lisa. On the otherhand, I've got that red/pinky undertone you mentioned & even when I try to really cover it, I think reds & darker lips just make my entire face look overly made-up. But! You've inspired me to try again! Thanks!!
this video gave me alot of tips, I love all the little details that make the end result so much better. Will keep this in mind next time I try to rock a dark lipstick on my pale skin
Gorgeous as always, Lisa! I've actually vowed to wear darker lipsticks this autumn and started today with NYX's Chaos. I had so many looks I thought I was topless! A darker lip seems to make more of an impact on people than the smokey eye - I suppose because people reckon you got guts to pull it off and that it can look so great!
I used to use Max Factor pancake makeup. Also used to use a real sponge and make it a bit damp and perfect coverage. Only needed a little. In the 40’s the stars used this a lot for coverage. Loved it.
Lisa. I absolutely ADORE your videos - your tips are like no other. They make so much sense - and you are so wonderful and giving with information - you genuinely want to teach. Please keep doing these videos - you're really wonderful. xx...
I've just found your channel and love it. This video is especially helpful for me because I am super-pale, and I've kept away from trying dark lips because they turn out too extreme for my taste. Thanks for giving the two application options. I also like how you applied blush and touched up your eyes after the final lip look. It's a trick I will definitely use to get a flawless look.
this is my favorite look and tutorial from you. i like how you apply make up and how your idea of chic is just the enhansement of our features, not loading on unnecessary products. I really like you! keep up the really good work Miss!👏🖒
Your nails are always flawless which makes all the difference. So many MUAs have terrible nails and it looks so bad. Not a look for me as it does not suit my pale skin and thin lips but mostly because I do not like this look as find it too severe.
i love your videos! could you possibly show the process of choosing certain makeup products for a tutorial? it'd be nice to see what criteria you look for when creating specific looks
I’ve found exfoliating lips and using a lip primer works well to keep the dark lipstick from wearing uneven. I love Chanel Etole and a limited edition lip pallette called Harmonie Levres. Arabesque. I also like Black Honey from Clinique
I am SO glad I found your channel again! I think a while ago I found you and didn't really like you for some odd reason (Maybe because you speak more than other gurus?) but now I've found you again and I am in LOVE with your videos and I love that you're so informative!
Lisa, this is a fantastic video. Thanks so much! I was hoping you would do a video about dark lipsticks. I've got a few dark lipsticks and still haven't had the courage to wear them. Now I know what to do.
I think you should know how wonderful Lierac products are. After viewing this video, I placed a Lierac order from the company website. I ordered the concealer you mentioned and two products for puffy eyes. I have suffered for years with puffy eyes and have tried every product available. The Lierac Dioptigel Puffiness Reducing gel eye contour and Magnificence eyes precision eye care wrinkles-firmness puffiness & Dark Circles . After several applications of both puffy eye products, my puffiness disappeared and has not come back. I highly recommend these products. Thank you so much for sharing your makeup brands that work.
I love dark, wine toned lipsticks but I have always struggled to find the right tone for me! Anything I try my mum is like it's too dark. I am a medium olive skintype with yellow undertones. So I will have to give these a try. Thank you.
Could you do a video on the new Smashbox color correctors? I've been hearing a lot about them, but I'm not sure if they're actually that great. I really really value your opinion so that would be great! Thank you Lisa! You truly are an inspiration for us aspiring makeup artists!
Great tutorial Lisa! I have fair skin with blonde hair & very light blonde eyebrows, I find this look suits me really well. I find it difficult to do a strong eye look though with my eyebrows. I used to tint them but this this resulted in me looking a little too Joan Crawford for my liking. I know it is encouraged to define the eyebrows, mine are not dis-simular shape wise to yours just very blonde & don't need filling in, I'm left a bit flummoxed with what to do!! Any suggestions?
Hello Lisa! I love your videos and watching your techniques. It's like watching art in motion. I even received your book as a Christmas gift and as a lover of history I find it fascinating, not only for the aesthetics but also for the background of makeup. Anyway, I tried to get the YSL Belle de Rose lipstick recently but have been told it's discontinued. Is there a similar lip colour to it you could recommend please? The colour is gorgeous! Hope life is treating you well.
More pearls of wisdom on beauty, makeup and overall cosmetic deliciousness packaged in under 15 mins of video! Love the concept of dabbing lippy on with the fingers.. makes wearing lipstick much less scary. What nail polish are you wearing, it's tres chic!
Any tips on the best way to deep clean your brushes and sponges? I know that it is off topic but I keep forgetting to ask on the correct thread..also I used to love wearing these colors in my 20's and early 30's but I run from them now..However,watching this has given me a new outlook and I think I will give them a try again now that I am in my early 50's..
I am having a rainy day relaxation by re-watching your videos :) What I really love about your looks is that they're so chic. If something would say parisienne chic, that's what this is to me. Love the 'me but better' looks. (I love other looks as well but these make me feel the most beautiful) :)
I'm so glad to have found this video because recently I got the urge to get a little bit more into dark red lipsticks but at the same time I tried to avoid them as well because they do take some confidence to wear out, so - thank you for this! But I have a question as well and maybe you can help me with it. I'm currently on the hunt for a dark red lipstick but on that doesn't have pink or purple undertones, just a really deep, rich red colour. Do you maybe know a shade like that? Thank you ♥
Hello,My name is Lacey,Iam a canadian Viewer. I'm sure you get many messages such as this, but I just had to write you. I've been doing my friends and families make up since 2006 when I was 17. The same year I opened my first UA-cam account. I didn't realize until finding lollipop26, who has since stopped making videos, that there was a beauty community. In 08' I started filming, but my nerves got the best of me so to speak. Lol,so instead I was an avid watcher of beauty videos. I now have a new account(this one) and have been seriously considering making videos. I just wanted to thank you. You're videos are always so well thought out, consistent, down to earth yet entirely professional. It's amazing balancing act. Congrats on all of your success, and I look forward to more videos:)
I like it that you don't feel the need to bronze or contour for every makeup look.. You use makeup as something for skin.. Instead of using your skin for something to put all the possible makeup on.. You're really inspiring.
She's a real makeup artist.
+saumya p that she is ☺
Akshita Mishra very well said
Akshita Mishra me too.
Boy, you said that so well and for many others. Amen
Six years later, and this video and the looks you did are still relevant. Lovely tutorial.
B!L3!GH S I'm watching this in 2018 and I thought this was a recent video. Not from 2010!
Watching in 2019

What I like so much about Lisa is how she is never shy to do a bold lip or a bold eyeshadow full on and yet at the same time she always manages to make it look classy and not exaggerated. She always finds the perfect balance.
Lisa, you are hands down the best makeup artist on UA-cam to date! I absolutely love your tutorials!
Strongly agreed.

It doesn't matter how old the tutorial is, if the makeup is made by Lisa it's timeless ! Watching this in 2016 )
+Hagiwara Mio I went to check when this video was uploaded and WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT WAS 6 YEARS AGO? I remember watching it whe she uploaded it and I had no idea I've been subscribed to her for over 6 years.
+Natalia Marquetti time surely flies it's crazy ) I wish I have discovered that channel 6 years ago ) back then I looked like bimbo
Hagiwara Mio 2017 still relevant. She is genious

I really like the fact that you don't smother your skin in foundation. You use makeup to accentuate, not to falsify or create something that's not there. We need more beauty gurus like you!!
Watching your videos is like watching an artist just doing her thing. I love your videos!!
It's from 9 years ago, but I actually thought it was a current video, given that Lisa looks exactly as she does now 🙏
Lisa knows all! I went straight to a YSL counter and asked for #8 Belle de Rose and I almost sobbed over how glorious it looked on me. XX
+g_beets Oh my god i chicken out too it's terrible!
same here :D I always use the dabbing technique whenever I use a darker lipstick such as red or even brown
I always dab them on with either the lipstick itself (very carefully/gently tapping it on the lips)or with one finger. And it actually makes them stay on better, especially if you dab just a tiny bit of powder on top of it☺
I love how you think through what you're doing and take your time. It makes you, even as an expert, seem more relatable.
Can you please do a modern Jane Austen inspired make up look please!!!!
That would be soo cool!
Ohhhh, that’s a good request!
I cant believe this video is filmed almost 10 years ago and the look is still looks current. This really shows classic looks dont change
I know
Binge watching for the Adsense and my goth heart melted when she said she had a soft spot for us🖤
I love how her videos are always really simple and useful for everyday looks, unlike many other make up tutorials.
I tried the first lips with my Revlon Matte 010 Wine Not, which is almost black. I loved the colour even more than I used to wear it full on.
Brilliant tutorial Lisa! Berry & plum trends come & go. Being a lipstick addict I've succumbed to dark berry & wine shades & swore them off coz they looked too harsh or too Goth or too Punk on me. Soft spot for goths - didn't think I could like Lisa more than I already did ^_^
Lisa I think you are exquisite, the classiest woman on UA-cam, please never stop making video's. They fuel me :))

@chocolatykitten its 'dewy'... as in like morning dew on leaves etc (moist, shiny, etc). Hope that helps x

Wow, so beautiful! I am really fair and have always loved dark lipsticks but couldn't get them to look right. I think I will try it this weekend.
You're so dreamy and soft, you use make up the way a painter uses paint, such an artsy and passionate way to introduce your passion 🖤x
I use the clinique almost lipstick in black honey and it is wonderful! It's ultra moisturizing and flattering to a wide variety of skin tones.

I’d love to see an updated version of this tutorial with YOUR lipstick in Velvet Jazz- eeeeeek!! Your lipsticks! In love with all of them ♥️
Where I live, people tend to stare at you when you wear red or dark lipstick, it can be discouraging.
move
People usually tend to stare when you look fabulous.. you really mustn't blame them darling! In all seriousness though, you do what makes you happy :)
Thank you, will try to keep that positive attitude!

I adore that you put in a bit of makeup history in each video to really set the backdrop for the video. awesome look!
U look beautiful. The eye look u created wit such minimal products is just wonderful.
@xsam116x SKII is an eye cream. Is it an eye cream you are looking for or a concealer? x
6years already and it's now im discovering it?! very nice tips+look.. thanks for sharing lisa
How dare you be so beautiful.
Really?
Man, I still love this video! Lisa, you are my holy grail makeup artist. I think if I could have a martini with one famous person, it would be you :)
Gorgeous looks! I have always loved the darker lips, especially now in the fall and winter seasons... Just purchased Clinique's Black Honey and it has quickly become my favorite!
your videos are so timeless and flawless, madam! I'm watching in 2017 and this is exactly what I needed
Thanks!!

@Camden1313 lipstick would be perfect. Watch my 'Four ways with lipstick' video as it contains lots of tips for using lipstick as cheek stain x
The way she speaks and enunciates is so beautiful. I'm curious what she would sound like with an American accent.
if i use dark lipsticks, when i speak i can always see the inside with no lipstick on...how can i solve this problem ugh...
Raffaella You can't.
Use a liquid lip

This is great. I don't wear lipstick at all, because it always looks smudged, makes my face look a mess. Now I know why.
@Unavoidable2569 should be as its an existing foundation just in a new format x
I've seen several 'red lip' tutorials that go into the full face makeup without explaining why that's important. Thank you for doing so.
Love how you curated your selections to different skin-tones. Great video!
i really lovve how natural you are with putting on the make up. you never PILE it on
this is my favorite look and tutorial from you. i like how you apply make up and how your idea of chic is just the enhansement of our features, not loading on unnecessary products. I really like you! keep up the really good work Miss!👏🖒
Your nails are always flawless which makes all the difference. So many MUAs have terrible nails and it looks so bad. Not a look for me as it does not suit my pale skin and thin lips but mostly because I do not like this look as find it too severe.
I have very fair skin and I wear the darkest of lipsticks, no sweat.
Do whatever you want please! ✌️✌️✌️
Completely agree. I'm not fair but I mostly wear dark lipsticks. Whenever I feel like it.
+Strangeways She just is saying what might look better on certain skin tones, lip shapes, etc.
+Strangeways Yeah, I agree. These are ways for older women to wear dark lips-- 20 somethings go even darker
How I wear dark lipstick
Step 1: Apply dark lipstick
Step 2: Go out the door
What are you saying? Hahaha
She just said how she personally does it, chill, not everything in the world is grim
@FlyingMonkies325
FlyingMonkies325 calm down lady
@kimberley marin - yeah, same here, cos I'm all thumbs with concealer and contour and brushes and such 😝
You are by far my favorite! I could watch you do anything for hours !
i love your videos! could you possibly show the process of choosing certain makeup products for a tutorial? it'd be nice to see what criteria you look for when creating specific looks
probably my favourite makeup tutorial i've ever watched. and i've watched many..
I love this look but I wish I could afford all these products....could you do an affordable or drugstore version of some of your best looks please?
I like how you explain colors and how they work together. I always get what you mean even though english is just my second language.
I’ve found exfoliating lips and using a lip primer works well to keep the dark lipstick from wearing uneven. I love Chanel Etole and a limited edition lip pallette called Harmonie Levres. Arabesque. I also like Black Honey from Clinique
Oh I love the last colour!! Looks like the one I wear, which makes a nice contrast, I have pale skin and dark hair
@angle021 you mightn't need to..your natural colour coming through you foundation may be enough x
Loved how the blush balanced the color!
Eight years later, and I would still love to see some gothic-inspired looks from you! I think my heart would skip several beats.
can you please make a video on how to bake without creasing or having that powder look of feel on dry skin..thank you

i like the second better! looks awesome with your features
O
Update please! Looks beautiful but the YSL colour etc aren't available anymore.
Wow after 11 years it's still lovely and beautiful look! 😍
I love dark, wine toned lipsticks but I have always struggled to find the right tone for me! Anything I try my mum is like it's too dark. I am a medium olive skintype with yellow undertones. So I will have to give these a try. Thank you.
@Makeupgalore1 most definitely!!!!! x
I love that when you add small amounts of product its always 'just a fraction'
Could you do a video on the new Smashbox color correctors? I've been hearing a lot about them, but I'm not sure if they're actually that great. I really really value your opinion so that would be great!
Thank you Lisa! You truly are an inspiration for us aspiring makeup artists!

But I have a question as well and maybe you can help me with it. I'm currently on the hunt for a dark red lipstick but on that doesn't have pink or purple undertones, just a really deep, rich red colour. Do you maybe know a shade like that?

Hi Ms.Lisa.Thank you so much for the how to! I love the Lipstick Queen line, could you please do a how to using the lines' 90% pigment? Thank you!!
The YSL lipstick looks amazing on you, Lisa!
Thanks for your help, I have always been a bit confused around dark lipsticks.
I love this nail polish!
