I love red lipstick for any occasion. As a young boy I’d see my grandma wearing it and I was always drawn to her lips. It had the best smell so one day when she babysat me I asked it I could have some and she put it on me and I never felt better. I don’t wear any other makeup but I’d love to go to a MAC store and get an actual makeover atleast once in my life 😊.
I can't even keep track of how many times I have watched this video, one thumbs up is not nearly enough....so much wonderful information here. Love you, Lisa!
Thanks for the great comment. Red lipstick was very popular during the 2nd world war and big companies like Elizabeth Arden and Max Factor gave the reds names like Patriot Red, GI Red etc etc. They were seen as defiant, fearless and heroic! : ) X

I like bright brick reds, neutrals and blue reds on Redheads (depending on how pale they are) .... the key is really keeping the foundation very light but with enough concealer to cover any red areas ... and blusher! Colour in the cheeks is very important to balance so you dont look washed out X
Bridget Heathcote I know I'm very late replying to this, but I just wanted to share with you. My grandmother has been wearing her signature bright red lip since she was about 18. She is 65 now and still rocks it! She gets compliments on it often. All this to say, looking and feeling pretty is for everyone at every age. You wear what makes you happy and you'll look fabulous😊
Thanks Spacey Gracie, that's great to hear about your grandmother and I'll think I'll be still wearing my red lip until I drop off this mortal coil. It's the same with clothes. I don't wear what is appropriate for my age, I wear what makes me feel good :-)
depends what its teamed with. If the base is a little heavy, there is too much powder and maybe a little too much of everything then yes its ageing. The trick to keeping it youthful and modern is a lovely dewy, fresh base, not too much powder, polished but not overly drawn brows, blusher and clean defining (but not heavy) eye make-up. X

What you say at the end about red lipstick picking you up, it's so true! After my last breakup I bought russian red, put it on and felt AMAZING. Felt like I looked fantastic and it gives me such a confidence!
I've never owned a red lipstick and I'm no youngster! My sister and I will be shopping for my first tube next weekend thanks to you, Lisa. Keep making these videos, please! They are so very helpful, entertaining and enlightening.
That was great info thank you. You showed a terrific price range. Once on a red eye from Australia to Paris I travelled with no makeup so I could moisturise and hydrate throughout the flight. I took advantage of being barefaced at the MAC counter and whilst testing colours found MAC Red made me feel 'fabulous'. Wore it for our arrival into Paris. As a kid I remember my mum's out the door look was a french roll, high heels, quality overcoat and matte red lips. Instant OOTD.
I knew I would love this video when I saw the title because I love love love red lips. Wearing red lips always make me feel beautiful and all around happy.
The bold red lipstick used in a casual way is a gorgeous look I adore and have worn since... ever! Thank you for sharing your experience on it: I really enjoyed this video! And: it is true that a red lipstick can really help to cheer you up!
Definitely! You can cheat the shape a little fuller either using a matte type lipstick and lip brush as I did with my lower lip in this video or using a lip pencil (See my 'Matte Red Lipstick Application' video for tips on how to do that successfully). Keep the rest of your make-up fresh and blot the colour if you feel its too much. It is a confidence thing. Go for it X
I ADORE red lipsticks, but they do require quite a bit of maintenance on a day ( carefully eating&drinking with a stange pout so you don't mess it up, no kissing your boyfriend,...) oh, the struggles of wanting to look FAB! Last week I stumbled upon INFALLIBLE LIPSTICK by l'Oreal Paris, and honestly, it is the best thing EVER. It will not come off! Put it on at 8.00, and after a full day and night it will look just as fresh as when you put it on :) Hope I just shortened the search for a good red lip for some of you lipstick-lovers out there X
I was watching some of your looks last night, and I was JUST about to ask you about picking a red. I'm pale and a little ginger and have such a hard time picking a red. I love red lips, so this is so helpful! Thanks! I really enjoy your videos.
I'd like to see a video of iconic reds throughout history. I read Marilyn Monroe wore max factor. But what about Liz or Rita or Gwen & so many others. So many spot on perfect reds. I want them all.
Well the perfect, iconic red lipstick on even the greatest Star will not be the perfect lipstick for everybody, so it doesn’t matter what a Star wore/wears, it matters how it looks on individual skin tone, eye and hair color that matters. So, I suggest saving your $ and not bothering to purchase “them all” even if some day someone does come out with a list. 💋💄
red lip is definitely my favorite color to wear, I can't even count how many times I have watched this video. I love your approach to makeup and you're so sophisticated and classy. Finding your channel is definitely the most wonderful thing for me this year. I love you Lisa !!
I'm used to have always red lipstick when going in the city (for shopping generally ^^) with very light brown smokey eye (using Lisa 3 minute technique and a stick now, thanks you so much for this video !!!).And I feel so confident with my red lips ^^ This video is making me realise that i wasn't applying the best way ^^ THANKs!
I understand. I can't stop watching her either! Her voice is so soothing and she is so beautiful. I could just watch her videos all day long! Thanks, Lisa!
I agree, I love a red lip out of the usual contexts. I often wear very minimal make-up during the day with Revlon's Candy Apple lip butter for a bit of an edge. Another great guide, Lisa!
Absolutely great video! Yes... just like taking a class on basic color theory, breaking the rules, but still wearing the color red that looks best, or making a red color work. You truly are an educator of makeup. I am in the market to purchase some reds for my kit, and also attempting to wear myself. Thank you so so much! Please do more videos like this one. I totally agree with everything you said. I love red lips so much because they're so classic and look good on everyone. Red lipstick is such a confidence booster and makes me feel so glamorous when I wear it. Plus I think it looks really nice in pictures too.
Lisa, Your videos are the ones I most look forward to seeing. I'm so glad to have found you. I've not worn foundation much in the past because I just don't like it, but seeing how you often use a foundation just on the areas that really need it and that it can be really worked into the skin in more than one pass has helped me so much. Fire and Ice is my favorite red. Glad you included it.
Honestly I'm 14 (almost 15) and I wear red lipstick ALL THE TIME. I wear very natural look with it too. I get a judged for it and been told I'm too young for the red...BUT I think I rock it, so I'm just saying! Just do what makes you happy and rock no matter what!
Holy Pickles haha I've been wearing bold red lipstick every single day of my life since 12 I get judged but I don't feel myself without it! Don't care what others think you're right you rock it!!
@@akahn101 I don’t think they are jealous. I think it’s just unusual for kids that age to see their peers wearing red lipstick and kids tend to be more judgmental against the unfamiliar.
I have searched for other red lip-videos but I have to say, this is BY FAR the best one on the entire net. Thank you, Lisa. You made it able for me to be confident about wearing red lipstick.
Now that I have purchased it and that I am wearing it, I understand why Revlon's Fire & Ice red lipstick has been in the market since 1952: the colour looks SO awsome that you would never take it off! And when I have it on, yes, I do feel a bit like a character in Mad Men... ;-) Thank you for helping me discover this little magic!
Hi Lisa, I just want to thank you again - you have taught me to wear red lipstick. You are right - it's totally foggy, murky and gloomy outside - but I feel great because today I am wearing red lipstick! :) :) xxx
I honestly just really enjoy watching your videos and listening to you! So helpful cause i've been looking for the perfect red for a long time so thank you I will keep your tips in mind :)
This is the best red lip video I've seen. It's helpful has more then just one product and you share great tips. It makes red lips less scary and just classy.
This is the best onformative video I have ever seen about red lipstick! I was always searching for articles that helped me decide which shade to buy because I didn't want to just waste my money by getting shades that didn't suit me. Thanks so much Lisa! :)
I've tried many shades of red but I think the problem is understanding skin tone. Is there a trick to figure out skin undertones, color and if there's yellow or red? I've been to makeup stores and their skin input is confusing. You explain these topics so thoroughly and well spoken. I think it's the basis for makeup and it would be a helpful tutorial. Love your videos thank you for sharing your expertise!
if you have a lot of redness, you probably have a cool undertone, whereas people with olive skin E.g. from Spain or Greece generally have warm undertones (yellow)
+Olivia Miller-Davis as someone spanish, i can tell you: HELL NOOOO. It is true that maybe more people tend to have warmer undertones in southern europe (cause we tend to be less pale too), but that's not at all a rule. For example, my sister is warm toned, I'm kinda neutral (a bit on the cool side), and my best friend is super cool toned (We're all white). My advice is that you just can't trust nationality to guess your undertone at all :0
I find that the easiest way to see your undertone is to bring a hand-mirror and stand next to a window. Natural daylight gives the most realistic display of any colour. Try to find a foundation with a see-through bottle and pick two shades (one quite warm and one cool-toned), and hold them up next to your neck (or chest, depending on where you have the least red tones). Take a look at which of the two looks the most similar to your skin. If you fall somewhere in between the two, you might be neutral. If you're unsure, swatch the colour onto the skin-area you're comparing to, and see which blends the best without making you look gray or bringing out unwanted redness. Once you know your undertone, the rest is all about finding foundations/lipsticks/blushes that match the lightness/darkness of your skin. And like Lisa says in the video, sometimes contrasting undertones look great together when it comes to lipsticks (and the same goes for blushes and eye-shadows).
Andi Kittisupt try a vein test. Go in the natural light and look at your veins (on your arm). If they look green or olive you're probably warm, if they look blue or purple you're probably cool, if they're teal or you can't tell then you're probably neutral. Sometimes it might be hard to tell unless you're extremely cool or warm so try doing it with a friend and comparing colors to each other. It's much easier to see it as a comparison.
I'm almost 17, and I am a HUGE fan. You're the reason I know how to properly apply makeup, clean my brushes, and find the correct shade of lipstick, eye shadows, etc. to compliment my skin tone. Thank you :D
To those of you who are a little skittish of wearing bright colors: I started wearing them at home after I got home from work. It got me used to seeing them on my face! Then I knew when I went out, I looked GOOD :P Once you're used to the brightness on your lips, you can suddenly see how nice it looks.
Hi Lisa! I just wanted to tell you, that I've been watching your videos for years, and I love them to tiny pieces. Every time, when I've a bad day or I'm coming home tired/worn out after work, and I watch your videos, it feels sooo relaxing. Like I'm in a lovely room with my friend, and my friend tells me nice advices, tricks and heartwarming stories. It really makes me calm down and your make up tips makes me feel comfortable in my skin. Thank you for your hard work! You're a role model.
Will you marry me? LoL I’m a Gramma but you are so lovely! Thanks for the great videos on red/dark lips! I’m 72 and going to do it!! San AntoniomGramma🌹
I just bought Chanel's Rouge Allure in Incandescente thanks to your tip. I love how natural it looks on my skin-type (really yellow)! I would never have gone for that colour on my own. Thank you so much, I love it!
Sadly Lover in Chanel Rouge Allure was discontinued : ( but at least Chanel made Pirate in Rouge Allure which is a dark blue-based red that looks pretty and universal.
Thank you so much! I have always loved a red lip, but when I would try to wear it, I thought it made my face look clownish or mask-like. The color would also look very different and horrible. I watched your videos on dark lip colors, red lips, and (I think) a power lip. I saw everything that I was doing wrong and I tried it again today (Clinique, Chubby Stick Intense, 02 Chunkiest Chili with Clinique Quickliner for lips, 12 Deep Red). It looked phenomenal! Such a drastic change from what I used to do and how it made me feel. Thank you!
I was so inspired by this video. I haven't done a bold lip for years but decided it's time. I went out today and got myself Russian Red by M.A.C. and their matching lip pencil. An investment but really a great colour on me. I also wore my favourite grey t-shirt and rocked the casual red lip look. Can't wait to show it off at my store!
Hate to be a downer, but nars red lizard came in third place on the FDA's list of lipsticks containing lead. The FDA has since taken down this list, I'm sure after accepting much cash from large cosmetic companies. Maybe nars changed their formula, but I haven't found anything stating so.
You should swatch the lipstick in your hand and rub gold like gold ring if it turns black it means it contains lead; the darker the more lead in it. Just a tip, I don't really do this so I don't really know if this works but it is a recommended method by experts(FDA version in my country).
I live and die for red lipstick. I own over 30 shades (mostly drugstore) from sheer to Dark 'oxblood' reds with various undertones and finishes and I love them all, I still want a few more tbh. 😊 My skin is light with a neutral/cool undertone. The reds I like the least are ones that come off more pink than red on my lips but I still wear them occasionally. Oh, God! When you mentioned Dita Von Teese, she is my glamorous style idol! That woman is the epítome of classic elegance and grace. plus her personality seems so humble. I just love her. I do not own Ruby Woo but I do have a couple of dupes and I love them. I have looked for Fire and Ice and it is always sold out in stores but I will get it one day. I do own Really Red and a few other Revlon reds including my favorite sheer shade Rich Girl Red.
what about for people with quite thin lips? I always stay away from lipsticks because I have fairly thin lips (especially my top lip) Is this right? Is there a lipstick I could use?
+Carolyn Craggs I don't see a problem with thin lips and lipstick, if you do mind then simply cheat it up by using a lip liner to maximize the outer lines of your lips.
Right, absolutely no problem. Everyone should wear what they're comfortable with. :) If you want to make your lips seem a bit fuller you could use lighter shades of red instead of very dark ones, and glossier finishes rather than mattes.
I have the same issue. unfortunately, I feel the darker colors tend to accentuate the thinness. I've found gloss helps offset that. however, gloss can add to the bleeding so I'd use a small amount. A satin finish lipstick opposed to a matte may be a better alternative
Always wanted to sport red lip, but the shades that I chose to purchase never worked out. It is just amazing that after years and years, just now, listening to your channel; I find my perfect red, the Maybelline Ravishing Rouge. Pat it with my finger, contour after, concealing previously all the reds around my nose and mouth. Incredible! Just perfect! Not to mention that is indeed lasting 14 hours. Thank you, Lisa! Wow, I was rocking it today and enjoyed all the nice comments about my lipstick!
Me too, I'm very warm toned so I naturally went with the orange reds but I looked like an absolute clown. Granted, red lips in general are not my best look but the blue reds work better for me.
Thank you so much for this video, Lisa! I went to a MAC counter a few weeks ago and the lady discouraged me from buying any red or dark lipstick because "it can only be worn in the evening." Even though I left with nothing because of her comment, I am more encouraged to go for a red lipstick during the day : )
My absolutely favorite red is Revlon's Revlon Red! It's fantastic! The color is perfect, the texture, the longevity... Another one that I love is Illamasqua's Encounter, the perfect vibrant matte red.
Thank you for pointing out that some people look best with smoky eyes and red lips. I've tried the red lip with subtle, neutral eye (as some "experts" instruct) and I look horrendous. My eyes must have depth & definition; at the same time, rich color in my lips and cheeks has a life-giving effect. I've taken self-photos just to test and see what looks best (since one can't always tell by looking in the mirror), and I do need lots of intensity in the eyes no matter what color lip & cheek.
You are just the BEST Lisa! I love how knowledgeable and confident you are - without being overly so. I just adore you and your videos, and I'll probably be wearing a red lip all week because of you :)
I'm watching this again for what seems like the 100th time. Red lipstick has always scared me, but since I just had my 55th birthday, it's time to get over it. The closest I've ever come to wearing red was a beautiful pot of red gloss from Charles of the Ritz I had when I was 16. I'm contemplating treating myself to Chanel now, so a big 'thank you', Lisa xox
you are so right about red lips instantly brightening your mood! love this video, and once again.. thank you for sharing your expertise with us! i love learning from you!
Thanks Lisa, I share your opinion ! I absolutely love red lipsticks (cool toned!) and I wear them whenever I want, I mostly wear in casual moments. They always make me feel special !
@ClockTrickPony cheat them fuller ladies.... using either a matte lipstick and lip brush as i did my lower lip in this video or use a lip liner. Watch my Matte Red Lipstick Application" video (its a video response here) to learn how to add volume so it looks natural X
She simply means that the red is cool toned. Usually if you can't see hints of orange or yellow in a red, chances are it's a cool toned (blue based) red, even if you can't actually see the blue 😜
Imagine the palette of primary colors, now picture red and a tad of yellow will make it more orange, a tad of blue or white will make it more pinky, or purple depending the amounts. Thats how I best can explain it! All colors have different colors in them and create shades. (Except primary colors). Hope you find this helpful!
richnewman.files.wordpress.com/2007/05/colordialog.jpg Ever seen a rainbow? Or used a color pick tool on a computer? It's not that hard.. Left is warm "yellow toned", right is cool "blue toned".

She provides such great tips and advice that make her that much more of a beautiful person. Really, with much sincere love and appreciation, thank you Lisa. x
This was really helpful Lisa - glad to finally have some suggestions for my skintone. Most people just say to me "a blue toned red" and I end up not having a clue what to look for. And glad to have some affordable options too. You explained this so much better than people do usually to me! :) Great video! x
Perfect timing for this video! I really want to wear red lips during the holidays but am sure what looks best on me or where my comfort level lies. With the help of your tips, I'll be able to figure it out.

Red lips are sexy and super classy. People wish they have your confidence, they are just jealous.
@@akahn101 I don’t think they are jealous. I think it’s just unusual for kids that age to see their peers wearing red lipstick and kids tend to be more judgmental against the unfamiliar.
I can hear you speak for months literally, you are so eloquent and ethereal!
Wow! Red lipstick looks so gorgeous on you
I have searched for other red lip-videos but I have to say, this is BY FAR the best one on the entire net.
I love how your passion for make up really shines through your words and videos in general
I love red lipstick, I always wear. Makes me feel more confident.
No ive ben using a lash serum ... want to keep going with it for a few more weeks and then I will tell all! X
Hi Lisa, I just want to thank you again - you have taught me to wear red lipstick. You are right - it's totally foggy, murky and gloomy outside - but I feel great because today I am wearing red lipstick! :) :) xxx
I can't believe it...who would dare give this video "thumbs down"? Millions of thumbs up for you, Lisa, you are an extraordinary makeup artist!
I honestly just really enjoy watching your videos and listening to you!
So helpful cause i've been looking for the perfect red for a long time so thank you I will keep your tips in mind :)
This is the best makeup channel on UA-cam
Could you do an updated video with lip swatches on various skin Tones? Loved the video always well explained in detail! Xoxo
This is the best red lip video I've seen. It's helpful has more then just one product and you share great tips. It makes red lips less scary and just classy.
You make me happy lisa. X
Alyart has a great video about red lipstick and undertones
Thank you so much, I love it!
you look gorgeous in red lipstick! you should wear it more often :)
You are so professional, yet more likable than most people here on youtube.
please do a tutorial for nude lips!!:) i have naturally quite pink red, and any nude lipsticks look awful on me :( always love your video!!:)))xxx
there's something in your voice.. just so soothing and relaxing.
you keep getting better, Lisa!
Thank you!
what do you have on your nails? its beautiful!
Very interesting! I will try this. Thanks
+tabuma f thanks for pointing this! here is the report

If you want to make your lips seem a bit fuller you could use lighter shades of red instead of very dark ones, and glossier finishes rather than mattes.
+Carolyn Craggs Lisa does a tutorial of red lipstick with a thin upper lip
I have the same issue. unfortunately, I feel the darker colors tend to accentuate the thinness. I've found gloss helps offset that. however, gloss can add to the bleeding so I'd use a small amount. A satin finish lipstick opposed to a matte may be a better alternative

Every time I watch a Lisa Eldridge video I feel as if I've wandered into a commercial-free haven. I swear NO commercials ever accompany a L.E. video
I dont know why but she reminds me of nigella lawson
agreed!
I was just going to say the same thing :)
I am very warm toned and yellow but oramges do not suit me, I think pink reds suit me more surprisingly. Guess I must be an exception...
+Purple Puppy same with me ^^ too bad, cz I love the orange ones ^^
+Purple Puppy which pink reds do you like by the way?
Me too, I'm very warm toned so I naturally went with the orange reds but I looked like an absolute clown. Granted, red lips in general are not my best look but the blue reds work better for me.
Thank you so much for this video, Lisa! I went to a MAC counter a few weeks ago and the lady discouraged me from buying any red or dark lipstick because "it can only be worn in the evening." Even though I left with nothing because of her comment, I am more encouraged to go for a red lipstick during the day : )
You look like natalie portman!
My absolutely favorite red is Revlon's Revlon Red! It's fantastic! The color is perfect, the texture, the longevity... Another one that I love is Illamasqua's Encounter, the perfect vibrant matte red.
I wish I had all those lipsticks just to choose the right one for me :(
Thank you for pointing out that some people look best with smoky eyes and red lips.
Lisa, you are my RABBI!
You are just the BEST Lisa! I love how knowledgeable and confident you are - without being overly so. I just adore you and your videos, and I'll probably be wearing a red lip all week because of you :)
Serious question time: What if I'm wearing my Starbucks uniform? Too much?
I'm watching this again for what seems like the 100th time. Red lipstick has always scared me, but since I just had my 55th birthday, it's time to get over it. The closest I've ever come to wearing red was a beautiful pot of red gloss from Charles of the Ritz I had when I was 16. I'm contemplating treating myself to Chanel now, so a big 'thank you', Lisa xox
The first video I revisit after ordered the Lisa's lipstick set. Can't wait to try them.
٩(♡ε♡ )۶
you are so right about red lips instantly brightening your mood! love this video, and once again.. thank you for sharing your expertise with us! i love learning from you!
Is it acceptable for a 16 year old to wear red lipstick?
Jasmine Tsiatsias I'm 15 and I have like a shit ton of lipsticks POWER POUT WIT MEEE
Wear whatever you want, it's makeup and at the end of the day it all washes off
of course
Yes
Thanks Lisa, I share your opinion ! I absolutely love red lipsticks (cool toned!) and I wear them whenever I want, I mostly wear in casual moments. They always make me feel special !
Well I'm brown (Polynesian, white and native american) and I wore a red dress with a red lip to prom and I thought it looked great. Go for it.
@ClockTrickPony cheat them fuller ladies.... using either a matte lipstick and lip brush as i did my lower lip in this video or use a lip liner. Watch my Matte Red Lipstick Application" video (its a video response here) to learn how to add volume so it looks natural X
I don't freaking get how a red can be blue?!! I do not see it. Someone help me😭😭😭
She simply means that the red is cool toned. Usually if you can't see hints of orange or yellow in a red, chances are it's a cool toned (blue based) red, even if you can't actually see the blue 😜
+rockstarkicking easiest way to tell in my opinion is when you remove it with a makeup wipe, it stains it rather pink!
Thank you all! I will try to apply this info next time I am stumped lol
I am watching this again and after viewing more than 20 other videos about wearing red lipstick, this is the BEST & MOST AWESOME video!! I agree that 1 thumb up isn't enough. I love this video!!!
I wish you would've had models lol
Lisa has to be one of the most beautiful women I've seen in my life. No, I'm not a lesbian (not that there's anything wrong with that) but I love watching her videos because she's so pretty. She provides such great tips and advice that make her that much more of a beautiful person.
Really, with much sincere love and appreciation, thank you Lisa. x
ur eyes r beautiful
What a great video guide on red lips! The way you're wearing it - soft or almost bare makeup and red lip is my favorite. Thanks!
Make sure it doesn't have anything in it that will harm your body! Read read read! Good day, ladies.
This was really helpful Lisa - glad to finally have some suggestions for my skintone. Most people just say to me "a blue toned red" and I end up not having a clue what to look for. And glad to have some affordable options too. You explained this so much better than people do usually to me! :) Great video! x
I look better in a shear red thats a bit glossy :)
Jordan Holloway I think you would Love lady bug from Mac then !!
Perfect timing for this video! I really want to wear red lips during the holidays but am sure what looks best on me or where my comfort level lies. With the help of your tips, I'll be able to figure it out.
