Yeeeees, Mido is a great brand, and the Ocean Star GMT is a fantastic watch!!! The DLC 600 is an insane watch! It's definitely top-tier for the segment. Thank you so much for taking the video and taking the time to comment 🍺🍺🍺🍺
@@canem1086 DLC should be the ultimate finish against scratches So it should hold up much much better than stainless steel The DLC finish is supposed to be as hard as a diamond, so it is just as scratch-resistant as sapphire crystal 😎 Thank you so much for taking the time to comment
I got the Ocean star 600 in blue about a month ago. Was considering the new Longines GMT, but this watch checks all my boxes and for more than $1000 CDN less. If you are in the market for a diver that punches way way above its weight, get this watch.
That's a black beauty! Another great diving watch that around this range would be Certina DS Action Diver. Not Chronometer but i would say as good as this and possibly cheaper than this Mido Ocean Star. Another one would be Longines Hydroconquest. That one is chronometer and probably the same range price as this.
Yes, those are great watches! There is a lot of overlap due to them being sibling brands under Swatch I've handled those two watches (Certina and Longines) and can tell you without hesitation that all three are great, but the Mido, at least in person, is superior (I find the Hydro Conquest to be the least impressive longline watch in person, but that's my opinion ) The lume, helium escape valve, lockable bezel, DLC coating, 600 meters of water resistance, and ratcheting clasp feel more elevated than the DS Action Diver and the Hydro Conquest; this feels more like Omega with a less fancy movement Also, in the gray market, the blue dial version can be had for $1200, which is a crazy value if you ask me I will be reviewing the titanium ocean star Chronograph soon, too, in about four weeks Stay tuned for that one, as that's another watch that's closer to an omega sea master for a fraction of the cost that no one pays attention to I like Mido over Longines as a hole because Longines is more like entry-level to omega But top-of-the-line Mido is way more interesting than entry-level lomgines and often is very close to Longine top-end offerings execution with small compromises (like no column wheel on the Barocheli moon phase Chrono) but also 1k less (check out that review I'm curious what you think if it) I will be handling more Certina watches in the future. Hopefully, I can do a showdown between DS AD and the OS line :) Certina has the smallest US presence of all the berry-level swatch brands Thank you so much for all the comments, these conversations are so much fun 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Thank you for the explanation. Perfectly why i subscribed to your channel. you explained a lot about how good Mido is. Would not know much about the hydro conquest until you mentioned it! Certina is much more popular in Europe for sure. I wonder why both brands are under the radar in the US. maybe lack of marketing? Swatch has been focusing more about the collab with moon swatches and blancpain? who knows
@@akiraxlegend So, from meetings with the brand reps, I feel like the business is split by territories (at least at the entry-level). Certina is huge in Europe, as you mentioned, especially Russia. Thank you for a very nice video. I'm really considering this as my next purchase. But I was left wondering: why is the minute hand off set, when the seconds hand is in zero position? For example at the video point 6:18 you can see that the seconds hand is at twelve o'clock, but the minute hand is somewhere between 14 and 15 minutes?
Hey Mark, great question! So, it all has to do with how you set your watch If you want perfect hand alignment, all you have to do is pull the crown when the second hand is at zero to effectively stop the second at the perfect moment if you set the minute hand perfectly centered to the minute mark and then press the crown down your hand will always line up perfectly However, if you set the time with the second-hand stopped at any other position, you will have an offset This can happen with all watches as you can set the minute and hour hands independently from the second hand :) So don't worry. It is not an issue with the watch; it is an issue with how I set the time 😬 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Yeah! That would make sense I was also told that it was the sensor for the helium escape valve, but that doesn't seem right to me Either way, the bezel action is so unique it's easy to overlook the cutout, in my opinion Thanks for taking the time to comment 🍺🍔

Mido, Tissot, Certina and Hamilton are the "Fab Four" of Swatch group. That's what I heard about the clasp But I would not be surprised if the entire bracelet is pvd When you look at the bracelet reference number, you can see it's not unique to this watch Which is why I think it's not DLC like the case It is a universal bracelet that's been part of their catalog for some time I was disappointed to learn that the case might be the only metal elemt finish with DLC coating :(
I really dont like how the logo Mido reflects light unevenly making it impossible to read correctly the logo. Also i find the bracelet too polished. If they could do a sandblasted version but been a swiss brand there is no chance of that.
If you want a bracelet with less polish, Hamilton and Certina might be the way to go And it's all under the Swatch brand, so that quality will be on par across the board Thanks for your comment 🍔🍺
