This instantly improved my "calligraphy" (if I can call it that at the stage that I'm at, lol). I was trying to write all my words without lifting my pen off of the paper, thinking that's the only way to make it look like it flows. I couldn't have been further from the truth. Lifting the pen off the paper really changes the game completely!
I’ve watched several different You Tube videos on calligraphy. Becca by far has been the best so I’ve ditched the others. This gives me consistent information and teaching style. So glad I happened upon her.
I have watched many, many handwriting and calligraphy tutorials from various channels and your videos are *by far* the most informative and practical. Just as a specific example, demonstrating a common mistake with most people assuming to meet up the lines at the very top of the oval and then *showing* us how much cleaner it looks to start to the side with an upstroke. You're a great teacher!
I've been doing brush calligraphy since 2018 and I thought that my "lack of practice" was the reason why I don't improve. I know now that I need to master the basic as well, thanks to your video ☺️♥️ Now, I'm motivated to practice more ☺️ I like that it's very straight-forward, no hitting around the bush, just the specific words and ideas ☺️❤️ Thank you ☺️ Kudos to your channel ☺️
Becca, you have THE most beautiful penmanship I’ve EVER seen!! I actually “stumbled” on one of your videos, and I’m intrigued!! Thanx Soooo much for all your guidance and the videos. God Bless!!
Thank you! I was really worried about not getting the light part of my strokes but realised I was too scared to press down on the downstrokes and it really really improved my upturn and down turn strokes.
I’ve watched about 5 minutes of ur video and YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT TEACHER! I was thinking of getting back into calligraphy after many years but I thought, maybe not because I think it’s going to b daunting; but not with you as a teacher! Thank you-you are the bees knees😊
I'm just learning this a newbie. I purchased from Amazon Mont Marte set. I honestly didn't know where to start but now I do. It was my birthday present for myself. As a kid I would sit in my room and practice my handwriting especially my name. At first I thought I want to be an actress after practicing all that but decided on journalism and that never came around oh well I'm retired now and looking forward to an adventure in calligraphy. Thanks so much
Amazing teaching skills! I’ve learned more from your videos than all the other ones I’ve watched combined! Thank you so much! Also subscribed and can’t wait to watch all your other videos!
Ok just started binge watching your videos. So glad I started with you. Tired of Tick Tock. I too live in WA. Redmond. Hope you’re staying safe with all that’s going on in Seattle this week.
I've really been very interested in learning calligraphy, but kept on postponing it..thanks to your amazing video, it inspired me a lot. Your step by step instruction will help me a lot as a beginner. I've already signed up in your show me your drills which will start in Oct. Thank you again for doing this!!!
OK, here is what this left-hander is about to attempt ... I am going to try to learn calligraphy right handed. Since it is awkward learning this with my left already, it will still be awkward with my right. So I am not any further behind. It may just take a little more practice. I joined your Show My Your Drills class starting September 28th. Wish me luck!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️THANK U SO MUCH. I'm a beginner in calligraphy and I decided to learn calligraphy just because of u and i'm very inspired by u. thank u so much. Lots of love fr u from me.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I love ur videos and am practicing calligraphy since yesterday using ur videos n ideas. Keep rocking!! Great job sister. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. thank u for sharing ur skill with us. I will surely soon become a good calligrapher and will spread ur name all over. I wish I would have born as ur sister. I like u so much, ur videos too. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I knew it could be this simple!!! Thank you so much for making your videos. I'm super new to hand lettering and this video will keep me busy practicing for awhile. I can't wait till March 1st when I can get your #showmeyourdrills guidebook that I signed up for.
Thank you so much! This video helped me alot i had some issues with the upstroke and this video really helped in fixing, would love to see more content. Once again thank you!
Hey I am Raaisha I live in India your tips are so much useful I am learning calligraphy Wright know and I would like to say you thank you love your art work keep it up
Thank you for that. I have been watching everyone doing this beautiful lettering and wanting to find the basic strokes. I have been doing broad-edged calligraphy for 30+ years with steel pens, so have a fairly steady hand, even with upstrokes, though there aren't that many and done differently. So it's fun to challenge myself and learn something new. Pens are on the way !! And I will check out the book, but I've bookmarked your site and it's easier, I think, to watch you over and over. When I was teaching broad-edged I always said it was best to see it done. That was before Internet!!!
typical my life... i have always wanted to do calligraphy, but have never been able to get a nib pen and ink... so i gave up (at my defense, no internet for non school-related research until i finished school)... years later, i get a nib pen and ink, do some youtube research and i find out that you actually use tombow dual-tip brush pens, which i have a whole set of!!! go to try it out and... they are basically dry seeing as i have had them since HIGH SCHOOL! sigh... but thank you so much! i will definitely be getting new markers and start practicing and following your awesome and very educational videos! :)
Great video. I’ve been trying to learn but doing lots of letters but not actually the strokes as shown in your video. Definitely going to try that way. I was also worried when my pen made the same noise as yours that I was pressing too hard! Now I know it’s ok 👍
Hi Becca. I’m thrilled to have participated in Workshop Week 2023 and now enrolled in your Showmeyourdrills class. Watching your videos I have come to a dilemma. I’m a leftie. How can I do calligraphy?! 🙁
I have always used calligraphy nibs. These brush pens are new to me. Can you tell me you measure brush size to letter height? And also, how do you properly hold the brush pen to get the most control?
Just signed up to Show me Your Drills. It appears you like dad jokes so here's one: "A man was found guilty of overusing commas. The judge warned him to expect a really long sentence." ( Sorry )
Thanks for a valuable lesson. I want to practice with Calligraphy pen of sheaffer with M nib. But I am not able to put the pressure at required spots. Help me out. Thanks
This is tricky to do with a pencil (the over and underturns, compound curve)... Can those only be done with a brush pen? Seems like I have to do more of a faux calligraphy using a pencil
What I really strugle with is to keep a constant pressure on the brush tip. It is actuaslly much different technique as with caligraphy pen, whwre pen itself does narrow and wide lines. With brush it depends on the pressure you put on the tip and here my troubles beggin... Not constant, not controlled, not smooth line....I'll have to practise a lot just drawing the line and learning to control the pressure, I think... under the begginer level that you start with. in tutorials...

Always helpful! As I write my answers are spoken...I still need the practice but the important words mean a lot!!!
Thank you, Becca!
I am signed up and ready to go on the 6th Jan being left handed let the fun begin!

I love that you colour coordinated your nail polish with your pen colour!
You are the first person to tell me about the strokes and it’s gave me confidence thank you 😮

Love this tutorial! I wish I could solve why I run out of ink before completing a longer stroke. I’m using good quality nibs and ink. Any suggestions?
Just signed up to Show me Your Drills. It appears you like dad jokes so here's one:
"A man was found guilty of overusing commas.
The judge warned him to expect a really long sentence."
( Sorry )
Went to check comments and was greeted by a dad joke. Nice
YESSS LMAOOO
❤ very helpful, thankyou ❤
Thanks for a valuable lesson. I want to practice with Calligraphy pen of sheaffer with M nib. But I am not able to put the pressure at required spots. Help me out. Thanks
A cheap solution would be a 3B or 4B pencil :-)
Maaz Mohammad
Thank you for this. It’s very helpful. May i know however why you’re not lifting per stroke?
UGH Love her. I have learned so much so far.
This is tricky to do with a pencil (the over and underturns, compound curve)... Can those only be done with a brush pen? Seems like I have to do more of a faux calligraphy using a pencil
Thank you so much
Why the long intro you say not to put tails on but I have seen some very nice writing with them?
Hey can you give the link of practice sheet
This is so good 👌
This was so helpful!!! Thank you!
Do you have any videos with chisel point ?
Спасибо. Учу каллиграфию и заодно английский язык по вашим видео.
Thanks. I'm learning calligraphy and English at the same time from your videos. ♥🙏
Very good demo! Very helpful!!
Thank you so much for video
