I connected immediately with your site. I am a senior of 70+ years, have a right hand tremor and recently got so distracted by playing with Diamond Art. I am preparing my Birthday cards and Xmas cards. My goal is to write some birthday wishes inside the card with grace and flair. Need to get my handwriting back in the swing and perhaps chose too eagerly to do Calligraphy. It's much like shorthand strokes. Practicing the strokes is so vital to this art. I need tips from anyone and everyone. Yes, it's overwhelming walking into an art store but luckily walked out without purchasing one item... so I am sticking with you .. your directions are clear and I do think I can follow you. Thank you.
I’m just starting out at 66 and when I found you on UA-cam, I realized that I can do this. I purchased your course, and printed them out. I’m going to have each workbook spiral bound and take each course very slowly. This is something I have wanted to do for years! Your videos are wonderful and I’m so excited to get started. Thank you.
I’m so glad that I clicked on your video & I chose you to be that one instructor to learn from start to finish 😊 Very happy to be one of Becca’s happy ever crafters! Thank you ❤️
Just great. I have been doing calligraphy for many years. Cooper plate. But I have seriously done it for awhile. I love the tips on modern calligraphy. It makes my thirst come back. Thank you
Awesome video Becca! 💝💫Tip #6 is incredibly valuable whether you are a beginning calligraphy student to advanced! It’s soooo easy to jump into too many courses and immediately become overwhelmed, confused, etc.(especially for me, at least!) So many wonderful creative paths to pursue: traditional calligraphy scripts, watercolor painting, colored pencils, et. al. to learn, too little time! 😄✨💕
Mam, you are my first ever calligraphy teacher I'm doing calligraphy for a few months, and I'm already doing really good all because of your videos, thanks a lot Becca mam
I just have to say... I'm going to be 53 next week and I was also the girl who practiced her handwriting ALL. THE. TIME. (and the alphabet, of course) and would see someone else's handwriting and copy it/ incorporate it into my own and I seriously thought I was the only one who did that- no one else has ever seemed to care as much about handwriting, as I have! :-) I feel so happy that I was NOT the only one- I wasn't a weirdo after all! :-) Thank you so much for sharing this!! :-)
Lol! Too late! J/K I too have an addiction to all things artsy. Especially paints, pens, markers and papers, notebooks, etc. I have spent a great deal on all kinds of nice things. Mostly because I've never seen such remarkable products and I LOVE them! Thank God I'm doing well with learning 🤣 It's so much fun! I wish I had followed my love for calligraphy years ago when I was young and learned but like you said there wasn't as much information and it was hard to find learning materials and lessons back then. Again thanks for all the info you put out and all the fun tutorials! 😊 Have an awesome week Becca!
'did not need to buy these supplies at all' .... ppppffffffffft!!! LIES! Trips to art stores are a must! spending money on pretties is good!! Won't make you write any better, necessarily, but.... oh my. It feels so good! (seriously, I get your point, but yeah, I'm with you on the art stores addiction. I went to buy some brush pens the other day. It took every ounce of willpower to walk out with just what I needed and no more... and even now I feel the siren call of paper, ink and pens!) Thank you sharing - some useful tips!
Thanks for another helpful video. During these times of crisis your channel and videos are great means to learn something new without spending much and setting any new setup. Very hassle free and quick things to try. Keep doing the good work. Your way of explanation is precise and very nice. Love from India 💕 🇮🇳
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us... I have been learning a lot from you, even tho English it’s not my language you make it so easy to learn from you. Thank you
Really keen to start SMYD!! I've signed up twice before but haven't been able to do it until now. Your UA-cam video on basic strokes is so great, I practice them randomly with a pen or a pencil, even a highlighter sometimes. Definitely going to start dating my practice, such a great tip!
Thank you for this video! I watched your 5 minute video the other day using pencil. I can see how it would take a while to learn this. I had no idea the strokes were broken down the way they are. Excited to learn this new craft.
To start with the most important part of my comment - you are awesome! I would highly recommend your courses to everyone and have recommended to several friends. I'm loving the Majuscule Letters (challenging but fun) and looking forward to the upcoming courses. My first experience with calligraphy was 30+ years ago, pointed pen kit with instruction booklet (no internet) :). In the summer/fall of 2020 I googled calligraphy how to/instructions and found your UA-cam videos; I wish I could remember which one got me hooked. I enrolled in you Fall 2020 "Show Me Your Drills" course and loved it. However, things in life happen and I didn't take it further, but I still read your Friday emails (maybe not on Friday). In January 2022, I received an email from you letting me know about you upcoming "Show Me Your Drills" course (as a previous student) asking if I would I be interested. WOW!!! I have the time now and what perfect timing. I completed the 2022 Show Me Your Drills course and signed up for the additional courses. I'm loving it. I love the FB group, the encouraging support, and I have to say...your personality makes all the difference (love the Dad jokes)!!
You have a great personality. Actually listened all the way thru, which I have a tendency to not do ... everyone around here works at home. The "working at home" means they always need something from me.... very distracting. I rattle... nice video (we are in the biz of producing vids too (but not competing subjects), so I somewhat understand the pressures and editing and such. You do a great job, keep it up!
I was that girl at school with beautiful handwriting often I would write letters when friends wanted to impress a girl or get an advantage on things, so they thought! Is nice to have agreeable handwriting but hardly means more than that. In fact, it's all it means. Can't wait, Becca, to start learning the basics
Handwriting: Both my and my father's handwriting are/were horrible. My father did lettering as a basis for his trade. He did the lettering for the family flag and banner shop. Watching him write words at all sorts of proportions ( some banners were bigger than the building) was amazing.
I didn't find you first. I have to confess to picking this one, pick that one, "oh, look, there's another one!" But guess what - you might not have been the first but you are definitely the one for the "long haul". Thanks so much for your courses, thanks for your video, and even though I'm doing this just for fun, you are the one to follow! Thanks.
Thank you for the tips. You are a great teacher. I learned a tremendous amount in the first two videos that I have watchede! You humor is so funny much like the woman that does "But First Coffee" organizing videos.
I totally agree with the last part! In the beginning, I would find myself jumping from one course/teacher to the next cause I wanted to learn as much as I can, but ended up being overwhelmed in the end 😅Thank you for sharing, Becca!
Anyone who is on the fence about trying Becca's courses. I would HIGHLY recommend hers. I've purchased far far too many courses for calligraphy, and I got more from her free course than any of them. The paid courses she offers after that, are WONDERFUL, and I would HIGHLY recommend those as well!
Love your videos Becca and, just as importantly, I like your voice so I am going to start at the beginning and follow only you for my calligraphy journey. Hope it doesn’t take me too long to get proficient because I’m already over 70 but have always wanted to be able to produce beautiful words. Thank you for your excellent tutorials. 😘
Excellent video!! I am very new to calligraphy and this video has inspire me, to follow your recommendations. Oh! I was surprised to hear that you are from Ottawa. I am too and nice to see talented people from our region on UA-cam. Thank you.
You're one of my inspiration Ms. Becca. 😊 I learned a lot from you starting with the basic strokes. It really helps me a lot in practicing calligraphy. And i do putting date to my work to see my improvements. Been following you for almost three months.
Wonderful.. The story of yours and mine is very similar.I don't have a permanent handwriting, I do imitate the style of others and that's how today I watch this video thinking I could learn calligraphy very easy..
Becca, you are awesome, inside and out! Confession: I tried calligraphy (your basic course), but my nature is too impatient to perfect anything. However, that does not stop me from trying it again and again, when the bad memories fade ;) Stay as beautiful as you are!
I'm just starting out and am definitely in the "I suuuuuuck at this" stage which is hard for a fellow person who's been told "you have really neat handwriting." Thanks for the encouragement!! Also loved the peach emojis!
Point number four is so important. People who share videos online of lettering make it look so effortless, so when I started lettering, I thought I'd be good to go after one page of practice. That's not actually the way it went!
Oh my gosh my journey has been the same as your journey was in the beginning thinking i can skip 10 steps because i have good hand writting and yes i was "that girl" too in school lol this video has been so helpful as well as all your videos
WOW, this is SO INFORMATIVE and SO FUNNY! I'm a graphic designer and I feel like I should be pretty great at calligraphy, but then I try it and I'm like: "Oh no, that doesn't look right AT ALL!" 😂😂😂 Thank you for all the great content in this series and for your FREE COURSE! I can't wait to get started! 😍❤
Blick Art Supplies store in Los Angeles is the most amazing place I have ever been too. I recommend it. Every art kind of art supplies you see on Amazon is at that store 😲😲😳🤩🤩 Whoever said Disneyland is the happiest place on Earth has never been to that art store.
Butt peach on point. Also, I was totally that girl in school doing different handwriting all the time lol. I finally gave in to my natural handwriting when I had to take rapid fire notes in college.
Totally agree with dating your work. Although I have a vague idea of when my work was created I wish I could see a more specific timeline. Joining Instagram Facebook groups and being with other calligraphers made a huge difference to my calligraphy experience. I felt more connected than I had before to the Calligraphy community. One of my top tips is to take Instagram with a pinch of salt. Comparison is the thief of joy and you can't easily tell how many attempts that piece took and how long that person has been learning the craft for with a single picture. Also don't be hard on yourself if your piece doesn't look "instaworthy" straight away.
amazing content! understood we dont need to buy a whole lot of expensive supplies...🍑BUT🍑...we really want a tour of all the supplies you have behind you!!!
I took your first course and I have really struggled trying to learn this. I'm left-handed and have a slant so the "D", "P", B, etc never turn out. I have worked on it since March and it still looks bad. Going to take this course and hopefully will get the hang of it. I know you have a video where you break down the strokes with different colors. I need to find that. It was very helpful. Thank you!
I have started writing calligraphy for about 2 to 3 yrs... But thn still i use a pen itself😂lol!!.... Your channel is daaam helpfull for all calligraphers!
Super important point when it comes to dating your practice (or anything maybe?) What a wonderful video Becca! Thanks so much for the reality check ... for us all!! You're my #6, girl!! Thanks a bunch again!! 😊👍 [Hope the house is progressively beautifully too!]
I am new here... I have watched a couple of your vids and I like them a lot😍😍😍 and I want to request u to make a vid on how to do UPERCASE letters in calligraphy and connect with other lowercase letters for forming words. and I also want to request u for a vid on what basic strokes does each letter consist of... Hi Becca, so excited I find you and so very happy you shared your thoughts with us, it was like I was listening to myself think, now that is out of the way, would like to embrace my passion for Calligraphy and with your help learn the beautiful skill of Calligraphy. Thank you, ill be joining your course, already subscribed to your channel
Dating my practice sheets! Started practicing a week ago and just remembered to do it day before yesterday because I really wanted to measure my progress Edit: Also, can't wait for show me your drills to start!
Thank you Becca. I’m still practicing and learning but you are by far the best “ explainer” and teacher. Thank you. Love the new layout of your channel! Also the peach was super funny. 😊
I just signed up for your course and the Facebook page. I do have a question. Allowing 30 minutes a night, 5 nights a week, how long before I can actually write something that looks good? I'm excited to start and have wanted to learn for years, but curious if I'll be decent in a year.

Thank you very much,
You are really very good.

Amazing tips
Now I know where I failed. #4 - two hours practice a day. Thanks!
I just signed up for your course and the Facebook page. I do have a question. Allowing 30 minutes a night, 5 nights a week, how long before I can actually write something that looks good? I'm excited to start and have wanted to learn for years, but curious if I'll be decent in a year.
